  1. Time to revert to league toppers at the end of the season crowned champions. Old argument but any hint of credibility the playoffs had (if they ever did) has gone totally now. Not a case of 'who dares wins' now, as 'who cares wins'.

  2. I actually thought about this at the time I suggested it.. And, for me, if they follow my proposal it's a real win/win... As Kyle wouldnt need to prepare for two meetings, so less work required, and has less 'wear and tear" on the bikes, no need for new tyres, and less travel expenses, he gets paid 50% for the "other meeting".. The promoter of the "other meeting" then immediately saves money.. The obvious long term benefit for the sport is that fixture planning will become a doddle... No need for fixed nights as riders can now actually (hypothetically), be in two places at once... And in this example, think of the incredible excitement it would generate at Glasgow for all the fans as they wait, hushed, for Kyle's score from Sheffield to come through over the Tannoy (other public address systems are available)... One set of fans would cheer wildly and the other would groan loudly dependent on his score... A bit like Eurovision... "And now we have the scores from Sheffield"... Admittedly, if they all run meetings at the same time, some meetings may end up with no riders on show whatsoever, and all you would have then is the excitement of the scores coming through, but give me an hour or two and I will have worked on that.. Gold idea this. It really is..

  3. The correct section is ‘International World Of Speedway’ but not everyone looks in there - Thought it would be a good idea to let as many fans know of free tv speedway who may not have known about this and featuring Tai Woffenden, Macief Janowski, Dan Bewley, and of course the current World Championship leader Artem Laguta amongst others - For me as long as it means at least one speedway fan now knows about it and will be able to watch it then I think it is justified -

  4. I presume it's a big thank you to Eurosport for ensuring the fans know 48 hours earlier than expected as to when the meetings will actually take place ? As a Wolves fan I'm off to arrange a further delivery of clay to Alwalton!

  5. Why do you constantly tarnish the reputation of the team you supposedly support Peterborough doesn't need someone like you spouting such crap
    5 points
  6. Maybe they could run both meetings at the same time, and whatever Kyle scores for one team can be phoned through to the other meeting after every one of his races, and his other team then get his score added to theirs?...

  7. For all speedway fans - The first leg of the Polish Extraleague final between Lublin and Wroclaw is being shown live tomorrow, Thursday, on Freesports starting at 7pm - Which means a chance to watch Woffy, Janowski and Dan Bewley amongst others -

  8. I agree... Doesnt hold a candle to the UK does it? Get yourself along to Peterborough tomorrow to watch them race Kings Lynn... Now that is a proper Speedway meeting.. With so much riding on the result.. Who would want to watch World Class performers in action, on Freesports, competing for a title that is nationally recognised by many millions in Poland..? If I was you, I would take a tent and a sleeping bag and get myself in the queue this evening for tomorrow nights match at the Showground.... Crowd will be huge....

  9. http://www.peterborough-speedway.com/news.php?extend.3945 .......there is an emotional return for fans’ favourite Simon Lambert as a guest for Bjarne Pedersen. The Dane retires at the end of the season and is back in his home country for his Farewell meeting on Friday with the blessing of the club, who have been granted a facility for the meeting.

  11. Clearly the decisions have been made on the assumption that Peterborough are going to finish top of the league, and have been given choice, because this is clearly their choice. Peterborough wouldn't want to pick Belle Vue who beat them at home both times, and wouldn't fancy Sheffield after being turned over by them too. Picking Wolves makes sense, and going there for the first leg with Andersen still at reserve also makes sense. Having the second leg at home is usually the best idea. But no way can you convince me that this was also Wolves' choice. No way would they pick Peterborough, and no way would they want the first leg at home. Wolves would 100% pick Belle Vue and have the second leg at home. That should be a fairly easy passage to the final where they would most likely come up against Peterborough with Andersen no longer at reserve.

  12. I believe this press release contains as much truth as the one we get each year after the AGM's telling us how wonderful things are in the sport & how everyone was "on the same page".

  13. Absolutely correct, this is just to fit in the scheduled play off dates and normal race nights. Oh well it was nice while it lasted. Belle Vue to win the title now.

  14. This news doesn't come as any great surprise if Im honest but it's very sad. Hopefully someone can come in but I'm not very optimistic. Even if they do, I'm concerned that the stadium owners don't want speedway there. The lack of time allowed on the track plus in my opinion the harsh approach with the food and drink policy. I mean confiscating bottles of water on boiling hot days is never a good look, a bit of common sense should have been applied there The Masons have done good and bad things of course but the council have alot to answer for. The disgrace of the road situation in the area has surelt had an impact at least if we do run next year that should be much better. Then the limitations of walk ins being allowed plus numbers due to covud regulations. You only have to look at their treatment of Birmingham Wheels, that sadly looks like it's gonna close. The vandalism at the start of the season had such a big impact, and questions need to be asked asked about the security of the stadium. Fingers Crossed we can be saved

  15. Think any rain forecast on the day of a meeting, it should be cancelled the Teams get a point each and the riders get B#gger All,it might change their attitude.

  16. Things like taking bottled water off supporters in a queue to get in baking hot night to ensure they bought his bottled water at inflated prices that was of no cash benefit to speedway. Generally bad attitude towards supporters from Stadium staff, obviously even more restricted access to Track Staff and Track team. I'm not sure that the Masons could have done any more in the circumstances.

  17. They had a test event for that at Glasgow on Sunday, the fans stood for 2 hrs listening to the Score from Newcastle, it could be the future.

  18. I feel this has been decided above the promoters. Logistics from the TV cameras and teams only being able to ride on certain days

  20. Guys guys guys ave just got the internet code for this spot and am somewhere in Cumbria... Lorton a think it's called... Google it a dare ya... The Hills Have Eyes has nowt on this spot... 8 Quid for a large McCallum 12 year old scotch and I'm 8 in plus the San Miguel is 4.90 a pint and I have been on that some time before this Duck Do started around one today... and if am honest am full up... but am still standing and there are a few soft southerners here but am not gonna give in... Geordie pride an all that... It's an issue... let an old Alkie tell ya... but it's no good going over old ground... there is a great deal of good will at Eastie and with a fair wind they will be back... am 85% confident on that... Newcastle on the other hand 30% maybe a yes 70% maybe a no... but we have 6 weeks and things are in motion... nice to see people are so passionate about saving the club... It won't be easy for sure but honestly there are discussions on going and we will need to make an awful lot of people happy... but it can be done... and it WILL need the support of the fans as this is beyond the control of one or two people... it has to be fan driven and there will have to be a commitment made by the fan base if it is to survive and you have seen the info on Facebook that puts the situation in stark reality... There will be something coming out in the next week or two with regard to a meeting once I book a venue... but we need to simmer and pull together... On that if this doesn't read very well I'm sorry as I have been on the lash all day and I am on a break not coming back to God's country til Saturday when we will sort a meeting out but things are not straightforward however we can only but try... Keep the faith and pull together... history is just that it's in the past... I'm a bigger tool that what's gone on before but let's see where we can get... Regards John...

  23. I have no problem with play offs as an extra part to the season…preferably with a good sponsor who makes it worthwhile. The Champions should be the team at the top of the league… The Play offs can be the” SPONSOR team play off winners 2021 or whatever

  28. So why did P/boro bother winning at Sheff last week and then lose heavily when on tv, surely it would have been better if they had lost at Sheff, dropped points away from home, then beaten Sheff at P/Borough, then it wouldn't have looked so 'iffy'.

  29. What an absolute farce! Surely this completely defeats the object of a full league season?! When you thought the sport in the UK could sink no lower.

  30. You mean like the Panthers last night against Sheffield ?
    2 points
  31. I think it's a measure of how far the Bears have come in recent years that we are even having this discussion. The Holy Trinity (Ben, Jade and Jamie) have brought us to this point with their knowledge, hard work and enthusiasm and I am a touch sad that they are going to be broken up. We need that semi final spot so go on lads do it for Ben!!

  32. Possibly in future years (if there are indeed any future years for speedway) we could simplify the process of the play offs. Rather than waiting until the 'magical cut off date' is reached in September, the 'hastily organised meeting of promoters' should be held immediately the two teams who can't make the play-offs are known (Ipswich/Kings Lynn this season which has been known for weeks). Then simply use mileage between tracks to set up the semi finals rather than faffing about for weeks to see the finishing order. This means the play offs could be in August with better weather, bigger crowds. Scrap any fixtures unridden, saving promoters ££££'s. Could be a winner for everyone. Today's announcement is just another reason why no one outside of the sport shows any interest in it. The one 'sport' that genuinely makes it up as it goes along, year after year after year!

  33. Can't get my head round this at all. Makes little sense for Peterborough (Wolves, IMHO, being the team most likely to eliminate the Panthers' biggest problem, Belle Vue) and no sense at all for Wolves. One of the biggest pluses for Wolves this season has been the form of Sam Masters at No.1, but arguably his one awkward track is the Showground. Conversely, who would entertain the possibility of picking a Monmore date against a side featuring track specialists such as Andersen and Harris? PS: Could this now be Belle Vue's year?!

  34. More of the opaque decision making and laughable spin that we should I suppose by now be used to.....

  35. What looked to becoming a great end to the season with Sheffield and Belle Vue showing a bit of form to challenge Peterborough and Wolves.Still could be a great end.But it has been tarnished imo with this announcement. No way would Wolves have picked Peterborough.Peterborough may have picked Wolves but that's not up for discussion until the league top spot has been sorted. That won't be until tomorrow. I like how CVS said it is prudent to get the dates known to maximise time for fans, riders etc to prepare for the ties. When was the last time they ever cared about the fans when changing/sorting dates.
    2 points
  36. To be fair CVS has stated he wanted the first leg first and Peterborough have said they wanted the second leg so that’s pretty clear cut to me.

  43. If Glasgow beat Birmingham on Friday and I stress if, they will move above Redcar and into second place. Only Leicester could overtake them and only if they beat the Tigers this Sunday! So time for all tigers fans to really get behind the boys. Hopefully the weather gods don't interfere and the match goes ahead on Friday with a home win.

  44. Every meeting I've attended I've brought a bottle of water with me, never been questioned so wonder when that occurred. Prices in the stadium are disgraceful, but it is the same at all sports events.

  45. Not if it costs them money. I can't see them subsidising speedway like Bob Dugard did. As an Arlington regular, I'm hoping, but not convinced there will be a revival.
