Excellent response from Ben to the 'statement' in SS... Ben Duffill 37 m · Via the Speedway Star, a ‘spokesman’ for SCB has issued a response to my query as to why the recent Redcar V Birmingham KO Cup match was different to the Redcar V Glasgow (01.06.17) and Coventry V Rye House (11.09.15) matches. Both of those matches were abandoned and declared before heat 10, whereas the KO Cup match was not. I have asked several times via email, why those matches were declared, contrary to the SCB’s own rule book (SCB reg 011.1.23). I was NOT given a reason - I was told that a meeting can only be declared before heat 10 if the result is already ‘mathematically certain’, with no other explanation. I wouldn’t usually take to social media to do this, but feel I have no other option as I didn’t get the decency of a reply to my question by email - instead I had to read it in the Speedway Star this morning. Reading the ‘spokesman’s’ response, he states that the 2 matches I have used as an example, were ‘beyond doubt mathematically’! It’s written for us all to read, but is completely untrue. If you see the photos attached to this post, you will see that NEITHER of those results were mathematically beyond doubt. The opposition could have won by heat 15 in both examples (if they are using heat 10 for that analysis, then the KO Cup match result was beyond doubt too). In fact, the score difference was exactly the same (8 points) at the time of the abandonment in the Redcar V Glasgow match in 2017. Both matches were abandoned after Heat 9 - other than the fact that one was a KO Cup match, there is no difference whatsoever. The rule book does not state that a KO Cup match is treated differently to a league match either! (see attached reg 011.1.23). In this article, the SCB also state that the KO Cup match at Birmingham was not abandoned due to the condition of the track - the fact that the match was delayed for over an hour due to the remedial track work means that it WAS directly responsible. The match would never have reached curfew otherwise - the SCB have not acknowledged this in their statement. It’s a shame this explanation wasn’t given to me personally by our governing body when I requested it, but then again, it’s a very weak and untrue explanation. The evidence is attached for all to see. These decisions ARE inconsistent, and our treatment in this situation is disrespectful and unfair. Precedents were set I’m afraid and this explanation is not fooling me, or Redcar Speedway - we deserve better.6 points

Really sorry to see that Rob has decided to quit at Kent. As somebody who remembers him fondly as a kid at Arena where he gave his all in every race, it was amazing to then see him years later return to the sport at Central Park well past his 40th birthday and perform as if he was twenty years younger. On track he was always worth watching, and off it, I believe he gave a lot to the team. It was a shame that he suddenly lost his Championship place pre-season, but I did wonder how he could possibly make it worthwhile to continue just in the National League, given the crazy situation with the fixtures this year. Having ridden in the Royal's opener on May 31st, his next home meeting was not until the end of July. He was not due to get any regular track action until September. That might be okay for a junior managing a few rides elsewhere, but at 50, with two or three good quality bikes to maintain? Good luck Rob in the future, and thanks for the enjoyment you gave us on two wheels - 24 years apart!5 points

This from Redcar Promoter ( soon to stand down) regarding how the Birmingham cup match appeal has been handled. Until a representative of Redcar get on the management team , that is not going to happen. The SCB ‘ representative ‘ who originally declared the 2017 Redcar v Glasgow match had to be rerun, then announced 3 days later that the match was awarded to Glasgow ( in the press , not to Redcar ) later admitted in person that he was “ told to make that decision by a senior member of the BSPA “ . Money talks, top table influence has gone on for years. The SCB include the current chairman of the BSP L on the board, how is that an independent body ??? Totally understand Duffill’s frustration , the same as his predecessor, little Redcar not on the top table, no cash to wave around.3 points

I watched the GP qualifier live stream from Glasgow last week what a great meeting and very easy to sign up and watch. I'll definitely be watching this Friday and hoping for a good meeting and an Eagles win. I prefer going to meetings but Glasgow is a 7 hour drive for me so to watch the live stream is a no brainer and the price is OK as well.3 points

Interesting to read Len Silver's comments in the Speedway Star today. In particular the comments that the drop in points limits impacts the likes of Oxford and Bradford returning. The league should be about helping new or returning venues develop as well as developing riders.3 points

He certainly changed the game in heat 2,,,,,he doubled the stars score2 points

Twice on the GB website Plymouth have put a race on..what I don’t get is are they trying to promote good racing because I have yet to see one single pass or something to get excited about..is it about the sizeable crowd or the non entertaining races.2 points

Bjarne has been an absolute legend this season, both Bjarne and his mechanic are both very approachable and happy to chat, the Plymouth fans have took to Bjarne and we are really privileged to see him every week, should be good to see crumpy when he's fit but not for a while yet.2 points

The 8-day rule doesn’t apply to guesting for the Home No 1 (the same guest could be used every meeting), nor to an NDL rider. 012.4.2 Guest Rider (G) Replaces an absent regular team member subject to the following: - a) if the absent rider, with an established MA, is in the top 1-5 of the team, then the missing rider’s MA will be enhanced by +5% at a home meeting to determine the allowance for the guest rider. b) a rider may ride as a guest (in an official meeting) at a track only onceinan8day period(withinthatleague)unlessheisreplacing the home teams #1 or is an NDL rider guesting for the home team c) the guest must be in a current team declaration and have an MA that is the same or lower than that of the absent rider. If a rider has an established MA in both Premiership and Championship leagues the MA for the league for which the rider is guesting, will be used. If the rider does not have an established MA in that particular league then the conversion factor of 1.6 will apply d) the guest assumes the position and MA of the missing rider. A guest rider in a ‘double header’ shall count as one meeting only e) no rider, whose team is in the play offs may appear as a guest in the play offs, in that league.2 points

Is it the Alex Spooner for Rob Ledwith change that we're waiting for someone to blab? Or is that common knowledge?2 points

The rider (in this case Steve Worrall) can be a guest for the home side as many times as he wants. What he can't do is guest for the away side the following week after he's guested for the home side. He can still ride for his club the following week though, as it only counts for guest appearances. Hope that is clear!!2 points

Yeah KL should pull out of the league this year before they go financially under due to nobody turning up now.1 point

Jake Allen over Kyle Howarth, purely based on the fact Allen is likely to have more rides than Howarth with a potential TS and Heat 15 Cant see Morris repeating his performance from a couple of weeks back plus being a guest its more likely that TS and Heat 15 rides will got to Ipswich's "own" riders Jorgensen should outscore Wright and thats without the potential for being in Heat 15 Nicols scores this year mean on paper he outscores Etheridge1 point

Looking forward to seeing Bjarne ride, never seen him in the past.1 point

Welcome to come and join our bubble Mark on Sunday. Near where we used to stand, but close enough. Should be a great meeting seeing Bjarne again.1 point

Nobody as said they want to see it close down. It's the council have come up with the figures that's why CVS is in talks with them to allow more fans in.1 point

I think Lynn +8 on 365 is a great bet. But who knows?? I'll be there ,.Hope the Stars can nick it1 point

Main bet .... KL +8 @1.95, and the tie @9.00. Nicol scored 13, 3 weeks ago for Wolves at the AFA. Hoping for 8-9 tonight. KL to win @ 4.75. Not sure tbh. But i'll be there, so for a bit of fun. TJ -1 vs Wright @ 1.90 Looks ok to me, but left that one. Good Luck if having a bet.1 point

Very sorry to hear re Jack-a really nice individual-had an opportunity to talk to him a few times and he struck me as an optimistic guy with a sunny disposition.. One of the relatively few Aussies who settled in England, one of the all conquering Oxford of 1964. Also great to watch in 1965 with Exeter. R.I.P. Jack1 point

Just signed up for Sunday. This will be my first visit under the new Regulations after being double jabbed. Used to always stand and have a bit of crack with Mr and Mrs Tsunami so will just have to see if I’m in shouting distance.1 point

No, the 8-day rule applies to all competitions.1 point

Could it be because a KO Cup match is over 2 legs so therefore needs to be raced evenly over both legs?1 point
-
It is not a new rule, not a covid rule but an old rule still used & is evident in my old 2015 Regulations booklet.1 point

But the big question is would any sane person spend £17.85 to spend an evening with Mr Shovlar, listening to his blinkered and brown nosed opinions of everyone involved in the sport1 point

Less than 200 tickets sold for Leicester v Mildenhall. Always a major risk running with a low points limit that people simply won't go to the stand alone NL meetings.1 point

From what I've seen this season, Isle of Wight are missing out on a good league campaign. I'm new to the National League, but the three meetings I've season at Berwick have been entertaining. Each team I have seen so far has had a success story (Mason Watson, Greg Blair, George Rothery, the McGurks, Archie Freeman, both Thompsons, Josh Embleton, just a few from the teams I've seen). A lot of the meetings are close and have well matched teams. Berwick are also getting very good crowds watching the National League matches as part of double headers. Could have had themselves eight decent home meetings, plus any more they wanted to put together.1 point

I remember that season too. Lynn were used to being somewhere near the bottom in those days but that year was exceptional .... no home wins all season then an away win at Swindon in our last match! Those were the days lol1 point

Sheffield's worst team in the BL was 1980, I can think of 2 defeats of 59 - 19 (Ipswich and Swindon - and that was a Swindon without Phil Crump as well!!!) and a 61 - 17 off the top of my head away from home! Ray Glover had taken over and promptly fell out with Doug Wyer and Craig Pendlebury, although Doug ended up staying on for that year. We had injuries to just about everyone, some of his signings were a disaster - even Shawn Moran failed to score on his debut and we thought "What the hell have we got here", but happily we all ended up being proved wrong pretty quickly! The worst in the lower league era was 1994, we even ended up getting hammered at home to Middlesbrough who were at that time marginally worse than us!1 point

2011 Swindon Robins ...were stone bottom. Adams and Rosco had departed, Big Bald Ron was manager, Nicholls at number one, but the loyal fans kept coming back for more. Some embarassing defeats, lost half their home matches. Bloody awful season.1 point
