Before you berate Redcar again due to a lack of information, I think it’s time we make some facts clear. Jordan Stewart applied for his visa in December 2020. It’s taken UKVI almost 6 months to process his visa, entirely due to Covid 19 and not because of any lack of urgency by rider or promotion. His visa arrived for Redcar last Saturday! As clubs that pride ourselves on a professional approach, both Redcar and Ipswich have done everything as early as we possibly could, but have been in the hands of the people and organisations that process these applications. Covid has caused an endless number of problems for all of us, visas being one of them. I hope that clear things up. Regards, Jitendra Duffill7 points

Good meeting that.. Lambert again showing his progression to the very top level.. Be good for the young UK lads to watch him and how much you need that 'forceful' style of riding at the very top level to be successful.. You cant wait for mistakes in Poland to pass, or hope the track has an outside line to help you.. As the very top riders show, sometimes you have to force the issue at the highest level..4 points

What is the point of all the moaning? Embrace what we have to work with. The only other option was to shut for this year and probably for good.4 points

I’m just pleased to see live action in a stadium with fans. I thought the result was fair and well done to both teams for entertaining us on such a cold evening. I bet Swindon and Somerset fans would love to be in our position.4 points

Something that Dan Bewley currently lacks is the aggression of Woffinden and Lambert. Needs to build up his strength and not worry about upsetting a rival ad he forces his way through. He might get there.3 points

Number 1 in heat 1 always has to start on gate 3 or 4 which on most tracks are tougher and then heat 1 is usually harder to pass in as all the grip on inside.3 points

I had my first covid jab about a month or so back, felt fine. Went to work next day feeling great, mid morning started to feel a bit iffy and by the evening I was awful I know a lot of people who have had no reactions from the jab but know an awful lot more that have been really unwell with it like myself. Speedway still in the dark ages. Whole market out there willing to pay a tenner for a stream. £10,000 going begging. Denmark stream for free. About time the sport realised there’s lots of money to be made by streaming services and came into the 21st century.2 points

And then reinstated every year since then... And then removed sometime every year since then.... And then reinstated again.. And then removed again.. Etc etc etc . All in the interest of Speedway obviously...1 point

Actually, I could have added Stuart Bamforth of Belle Vue. He owned Hyde Road, but 'sold out'.1 point

I was off 6 weeks after having mine in march, still far from 100% now. At least i get paid and my manager who only took over a few weeks before i had the jab was very understanding. He said my sickness record proves i'm not pulling a fast one, last time i was off sick was 3 years ago which was almost a 10 year gap from the previous time and the one before that was 8 years1 point

It's also noticeable that Jack Holder is now 'nearly there' when it comes to the very close contact stuff where blinking first loses you the race... I think that this year will see him outgrow the UK League, and move on to racing full time just against the very best.. Dropping back a level each week doesn't help as it doesn't provide a true picture of progression, or where you truly are in the pecking order... As you say Dan Bewley is in a similar position I would think.. And as daft as it may sound... Nearly there but with still a long way to go, given the huge level of performances, consistently delivered, that the very top riders can achieve...1 point

I've just re-read Reg Fearman's excellent book and that's something he highlighted when he broached the subject of stadium ownership.1 point

You are missing the point of my post. A stadium owned by the promoter is no guarantee of continuance, was my point! It was in response to the suggestion that speedway suffers closure, due to most promoters being tenants of a stadium.1 point

Entertaining meeting in Lublin. Enjoyed it.1 point

The call off of the meeting was to do with it raining all day nothing to do with reduce capacity. There’s no way the meeting could have gone ahead even if it was full capacity. As I’m aware the weather across the whole of the country has been wetter than the average May climate so I’d expect more to be cancelled due to the rain. Anybody speculating why the meeting was called off obviously live nowhere near the track.1 point

Agree, superb but sad to see him not even on the pace.Gated in his 1st race and was last by the end of the lap.1 point

At Eastbourne we have special 5/1 home heat win music and normally the 2 riders do a lap more often than not with a double wheelie, always goes down well with the home fans.1 point
-
If my memory serves me correctly, it was the Americans in the mid seventies that introduced the extra lap of wheelies and fist pumping/ waving to the crowd, after a victory I don’t recall too much more other than a gentle, almost sheepish wave to the crowd after a win by a home rider at Swindon, I certainly can’t remember a victory lap. Once prior the arrival on our shores of messrs Penhall, the Moran brothers, Gresham and Autrey, things changed and fan interaction definitely increased. .1 point

I don't disagree with any of that except the 4th para. Danny and volunteer workforce were working at the track a couple of weekends ago, so a start has been made albeit a small one. How about starting a 'crowd funding' to help with the cost of the extra marshalls? Or maybe the supporters club (R.E.F.) might like to donate as they have continued to take member subscriptions right through lockdown?1 point

....maybe it shouldn't, but it does happen!! Indeed, it has happened in two of the three matches this week - and in the third match, the home no.1 was third in a visitors' 5-1. If you're taking heat 1 in isolation, and saying that Brady Kurtz not getting 2nd in heat 1 cost the Aces a win, then you can say that Troy Batchelor and Craig Cook not winning their heat 1 cost Sheffield and King's Lynn a draw respectively. But, of course, other things happen in other heats that affect the final result. If only Jake Allen had not been passed by both Aces in heat 15 last night then Ipswich would still have won!!1 point

I have tickets for 7 meetings at 6 tracks. Two of them (Belle Vue and Kent) sold programmes. Kent appears to be the unique one in that they are doing it by phone.1 point

Time has moved on and it was merely an observation but unvalidated as I am not at the meeting and without attendance figures being published, who knows. It still comes down to being short changed and the point of the comment was to possibly highlight a reason why some feel that the clubs are taking the p.. and that is understandable. Frankly those in charge have learnt nothing over the past year or so and take every paying punter for granted. SS makes a valid point re streaming and many would watch and the Glasgow meeting is a fine example. Many will pay to watch conveniently but will not drive miles to a track but the sport has in many areas failed to keep abreast of the times. The sport will fall on its sword if it does no wake up to the technology.1 point

That certainly is a good point, but I wouldn't go so far as to say it is a bizarre choice. Probably a bit unexpected true, but maybe it is something Ben will relish - especially as he is the longest-serving Colt in the team this year. He talks here about his desire to build team spirit. If his form begins to suffer, however, due to the extra responsibility I'm Steve & Graham will take action. Just hope the weather doesn't intervene tomorrow night - not looking too good though right now on the forecast. BELLE VUE have handed their NDL captaincy to Ben Woodhull ahead of their opening home fixture on Friday, May 21 against National League newcomers, the Newcastle ‘BTS’ Gems. The visitors announced their challenge for league glory in magnificent style at Armadale only one week ago when they earned 43-46 bragging rights over the Devils. The Cool Running Colts class of 2021 have changed quite a bit in the period between now and the start of the UK national lockdown back in March last year. But Woodhull believes the changes have given his side a good balance of experience and new talent that will prove crucial in their first few meetings. On his new role as captain, he said: “We’ve always said there are seven captains in this team, but to be officially named as skipper this year is a real honour for me. “This team always meant a lot to me before but now I feel even more responsible for the boys. I want to build a great team spirit this year but we’re already starting to gel quite well. “There’s a lot of potential. I think that Jack [Parkinson-Blackburn] will really come out of his shell and step up as the No.1, and the McGurk brothers have a lot of talent we’ve not seen yet. “There’s a good mix of experience in there as well which will no doubt be vital to the younger lads as we settle into the season, but I think collectively we can do very well. “Obviously Newcastle have the advantage of having had a meeting already and having won that meeting I’m sure they’ll feel confident about their chances in Manchester “But the National Speedway Stadium is somewhere that I certainly feel comfortable, and a lot of the other boys do, and even with the changes we’ve gone through I think we can still beat anyone here. “Everyone is so excited for this match. We will take it one race at a time and as long as we stay focused on our game plan and have fun, I believe we can emulate the Aces’ success against Sheffield.”1 point

As I said, some people won't care. The way I look at it is that if they have a cavalier (& possibly illegal - GDPR and all that) attitude towards personal & data security, what sort of password protects the database that your credit card information will be stored on? "12345" by any chance? or just "password".? By all means, take a chance on them...I won't be.1 point

It is barmy isnt it? A sport whose leagues run with so little credibility and kudos, actually plan in to make it even less credible and give it even less kudos in winning.. And if anyone says "shortened season due to covid" then why run junior teams if fitting in first team meetings would be an issue this season.. Or.. Plenty of double headers with the junior team could have been replaced with two teams from their own league visiting.. What you often get when these meetings are planned in is "Team A" wanting the match on due to a 'weaker' "Team B", and "Team B" agreeing to it because they have lined up a track specialist ringer which actually can improve their chances. "Please take us seriously"...1 point
-
i'll wait until they accept cash at the door. I had a look at that ticketing web site, and if they are splashing people's names and booking information on their web site, then that's a GDPR nightmare waiting to explode. I'm not trusting my credit card details to a web site with such a cavalier attitude to personal data protection.1 point

I don't know why people are getting so wound up by all this cheating? It is being done to bring on the youth and "for the good of the sport". Martin Widman Wight Warriors1 point

You mean just as Leicester "haven't"? Leicester haven't followed the rules and plugged the gap. They've cheated and are illegally using the R/R facility. The NDL should put someone in place to police the rules and guard against such cheating. They could call him "NDL co-ordinator" or something like that.1 point

wouldn't say Redcar cost millions and its arguably the best track in the division. Facilities aren't plush but hey ho. If someone can get a field in a suitable spot, put the track in and build the facilities as you go = not cheap i know, but not millions. I've said it before but there are dozens of showgrounds where the land is unused for long periods, other than boot sales and they're usually out of town - Westpoint, Exeter for example or Royal Highland at Edinburgh1 point
