He talks about 'dotting the 'i's' and crossing the 't's' on the final numbers allowed and the staffing within the stadium (bearing in mind Stadia UK laid off all their staff when they stopped the greyhounds!). Fully committed to all the away meetings as per fixture list - which is a huge financial commitment in itself - but may be a slight delay - one week - in starting the home meetings. The Plymouth home KOC meeting has already been put back from 26/5 to 2nd June on the BSPL fixture list. All the team are based in the UK (Zane Kelleher arriving today) and have few if any continental commitments to interfere with their UK meetings Can't wait..5 points

Buster wrote the book. Don’t forget the suspected heart attack at Edinburgh when Topinka was stuck in traffic. Thankfully a full recovery made.3 points

Probably hawks 1975. There are more seagulls in the Eastbourne "squad" than we have s*****g all over the seafront here at Herne Bay.3 points

Klindt is a lot better racer than he used to be. Allen was a superstar for us in 19, and I'm sure he will be again this year, but he won't score as much as Klindt would have. Our new team average suggests we may find it tough going unless another change is made2 points

There were no points limits in those days. 2nd division teams could bring in new riders when they wanted, as Canterbury did when they brought in Wimbledon no. 8, Peter Murray, who helped them win the KO Cup. Although it was supposedly frowned on, Reading brought in Vic White from first division Leicester and Berwick Bill McMillan from Glasgow. Mike Cake and Mick Handley doubled up for their first and second division teams more or ess throughout the season. The following season did see controversy when Romford signed Des Lukehurst from Hackney as iy was argued that he was too good to step down. As for team positions, they seem to have been decided by an average of scores over the previous 6 meetings so a couple of poor meetings could see riders change position and even drop down into the reserve position. I don't think there were hard and fast rules about heatleaders having to ride in positions 1, 3 and 5. I remember seeing Ivan Mauger line up for Newcastle at number 6 the previous season.2 points

I must congratulate all at Speedway Star on keep going in what must be the most difficult situation over the past year and a half. I love the annual season preview, but was disappointed at no fans view from the clubs. Also no annual predictions. Was that a deliberate omission or just the pressure of the times?1 point

I think that this year will see a fair few cobbled together septets, and ad hoc rules being made up almost on the spot, just to ensure that the meetings take place... Because why should this year be any different....? Wahey!! Baddum Tish....1 point

Belle Vue did want to use Chris Pusey in the Colts but were denied the chance to do so. I guess it was because he was also in the Aces side and blatant doubling up was frowned on. It certainly couldn't be that he was too experienced as he'd only had a few meetings for the Aces in 1967.1 point

I kinda miss having the teams in the order they are predicted by each clubs fan/media. But that is just me being picky!1 point

Yeah you’d have to use a VPN but can’t see why would want to do that. If want to watch online in this country then can pay £6.99 per month for Eurosport player.1 point

It strikes me that at £10.99 per month, Premier Sports offering, is a darn sight more attractive than that of Fanseat’s at €14.99! Linking up with a niche broadcaster that has French & Latavian Ice Hockey, Lithuanian Basketball, & Swedish Women’s Football as its key offering, really puts into perspective where the top level of speedway in the UK ranks in terms of Europe’s sporting elite!!1 point

Friday 14th. mid day there are still the extra tickets for V Glasgow available about 100 or so. Do not turn-up on the night with out a ticket you will not/ cannot be allowed in. 1, 3, 5, 7 hear this roar from glorious Devon!1 point

Yes have a good point and it will be interesting to see how many fans attend matches rather than watch it at home, even before the pandemic, televised meetings were always poorly attended, because people don't want to be hanging around for ages with nothing going on, I gave up going on Sky nights because I had already paid for sky so I was saving £20 plus petrol. 90 mins is about right for a 15 heat meeting, once you start going beyond that, natural boredom will start kicking in and people in general do not have threshold for long drawn out events now, whether its sport or a film or whatever unless there is always something keeping you invested and on the edge of your seat.1 point

Nothing personnel, but with "similar" scores speedway needs racers not gaters, not R/R & not guest - so it has to be Jake 100%.1 point

interesting this, I have tried to find out. There were no conversion averages obviously, old hands were restricted by gentleman's agreement. Riders were plentiful despite the warnings. When Teesside lost Greame Edmonds, Allan Brown turned up from Kings Lynn 2nd halves and became no1. If you consult Speedway Researcher and look at the results for 1967, 1966, lots of names crop up as reserves for BL1 teams who subsequently rode Div2. Of course BV with their training school had loads of decent riders who couldn't get into the first team and they could reasonably have used Chris Pusey. Other teams were 'sister' tracks. Teesside's was Leicester and we benefiited from that with Plant, Leadbitter, Reading, etc. In 68, no 7s had 2 rides only programmed. I loved those days, watching the progress of some of the young talent was great.1 point

No 6 wasn't a reserve position until 1969. There was only one reserve - at No 7.1 point

Surprisingly nothing lined up for Alex yet, i suspect he will pick up a spot before the season is out though as there are one or two riders who already look shakey with commitment.1 point

Whilst ‘ established ‘ riders of Garcia’s standard may be harder to replace I still think R/R should not even be allowed in the NDL especially considering the outcry regarding riders being put out of teams due to the new lower points limit.1 point
-
I’m hearing that the Cubs are to run with R/R for Halder for 28 days, ( I’ve been told this by a rider who has NDL experience from 2019 and is still looking for a place ) then so much for helping the youth as there’s still lads available that ( like my contact ) would jump at a place to show their ability. Poor decision by the club and governing body.1 point

Quite a few bad injuries to riders in Denmark last night , best wishes and a speedy recovery to all the riders involved1 point

Regarding the 3 hour time slot. Alot of that is analysis after the meeting. They going in mote depth apparently. Also, the programme starts at 7pm I think. I full 30 mins before tapes up. So I'd imagine it would be no different to any normal TV meeting we have had in the past1 point

I've changed my mind on British Speedway trying marketing itself. Not a wheel turned & it continues to embarrass itself. The best thing that could have been done this season is not employ any rider's committed to international racing. A few rider injuries & it's going to be super embarrassing1 point

So British speedway returns to terrestrial tv on 11pm tuesday, this is excellent news if you ask me.1 point

I’m very keen to see some Live Speedway - Belle Vue fan but also like most of us a fan in general , purchased tickets for Belle Vue and the Colts , Leicester on Saturday - Sheffield hopefully for next Thursday but not on sale yet and have planned Glasgow for the GP Q and Newcastle on the Sat / Sun in June , going to do Eastbourne / Mildenhall back to back in July / Aug and from Preston Kent in one day and Kings Lynn ... new tracks will be Eastbourne / Kent and Kings Lynn leaving just Plymouth ... travelling on my own and hoping for the weather to be ok - all time booked off work1 point

Or Julia Bradbury was good. Though must be a worry she would be late arriving as she seems to walk everywhere these days1 point

Pathetic comment. based on no facts whatsoever. Eurosport haven't even screened a single meeting yet, and here's a supposed Speedway fan slagging them off for giving our sport 4 hours of coverage; an hour of which will be a highlights programme on Free-to-air TV for the first time. I wonder how many football fans moan about 4-hour programmes covering a football match?1 point

We have won the case. Disabled parking reverting to previous arrangements. Perseverance has paid off.1 point

Really? Not that I've seen, and I walk past the place on a daily basis. What I do see though are a significant number of 24h site security personnel from the adjacent construction sites constantly in the area. If I was a vandal looking at torching some laid-up vehicles, this wouldn't have been my first choice place to do it, Also on the subject of what's been explained before, apparently insurance CAN be obtained for fire and vandalism for business plant and machinery. At least two contributors to another thread say that they could have arranged it. But hey ho. Who needs to pay the premiums when the Go-Fund-Me Insurance Company will bail you out of a crisis?1 point
