  2. Totally see both sides of the cost argument. Very rarely in life do things get cheaper but price and value of things are all relative to the individual. What’s cheap for one person at £20 is extortionate to another because we all have differing levels of disposable income. As I’ve said before, I’d previously count myself a die hard fan and attended any meeting regardless of opposition/line up when the sport was in the £15 bracket. So effectively the club could count on me attending let’s say 20 meetings at £15 (£300 across a season). To me I started to think it’s not value for money around the £18 mark so I started to pick and choose my meetings and I think I only did about 10 in 2019. That meant the club got about £180 from me. Now at £20 I will give it a go because I’ve missed it and want to start living a normal life again. But if the racing is poor and the team is as weak as it looks on paper, I’ll probably do a maximum of 4 or 5 meetings this season. That means the club will get £80 to £100 from me this year. So to put it simply, speedway needs to decide whether it wants £300 from me a season or let’s say £100. Add in that I always buy a programme and normally a pint or two if not driving. Multiply me by say another 50 to 100 likeminded fans and that’s a fair amount of revenue across a season.

  3. To be fair state pension age is now upto 68 for many and no lower than 65 for any If someone has been able to retire at 60 then they can afford full price......

  4. No wonder it says sold out.. You have ordered them all... Let's hope they dont take twenty grand off your card... Edit. On the plus side you will be able to stand or sit where you want with no social distancing issues..

  6. QUEST have a Speedway highlights programme at 2300 hrs on Tuesday night, 18th May...one hour... so at least anyone without Eurosport can watch on Freeview Good to have Speedway back on a standard platform

  8. That's all right up to a point but if the Club was on the ball (City) they would have spotted the mistake/confusion and arranged for an immediate clarification. Better still, I insist with all press releases/items to be able to look at them first before they are released. Invariably, at least one correction/amendment is included. From a PR angle, the Club should have been all over this like a rash imho and they clearly were not.

  9. More tickets available just announced on the Speedway chatshow see Plymouth website and social media for details

  10. It would be so easy to let everyone know via social media and websites why there is a delay, to apologise for it and give us an indication of when tickets can be bought if possible. So quick to do. You’d think with the few loyal customers it has left that British Speedway would treat them as well as it possibly can!

  11. Just read thro this thread and two things come to mind. 1. Nothing has changed regarding managements attitude to the fans. 2. I’m so pleased I gave up on it a few years back having spent the money on short breaks instead, with a company who know how to appreciate and treat their customers.

  15. A friend recently went to the "Freston" Boot for a standard pub meal for 2. Nothing special , just a burger and chips, apple pie and 2 drinks. When the bill came it was £75, needless to say she wont be going back. Same will happen with speedway, once the novelty of "going out" has worn off the numbers will fall off. Something can be £100 and value for money , whilst something could be £20 and poor value. Speedway is currently the latter.

  16. Fairly sure Abi was in the pits area in the final too. She spoke to Rosco and Doyle just after Swindon won in 2019

  17. Abi last appeared on Speedway coverage for BT sports during the play off between Ipswich & Poole but has done lots of other Speedway meetings as well as regular Moto GP and World Rally car series It could be interesting to see who fans rate better at Speedway presentation Abi on Eurosport or Charlie on BT sport for the GPs

  18. Pathetic comment. based on no facts whatsoever. Eurosport haven't even screened a single meeting yet, and here's a supposed Speedway fan slagging them off for giving our sport 4 hours of coverage; an hour of which will be a highlights programme on Free-to-air TV for the first time. I wonder how many football fans moan about 4-hour programmes covering a football match?

  23. How can just adults be sold out? Surely it's 1000 tickets (people) until all sold regardless of age group? Do they now expect kids to go on their own?

  24. She did some pits work when Sky were broadcasting. Since then she has covered various other motorsports for BT and others, as well as Boxing, She should be good. ALSO very good to see a one hour highlights programme on Quest on Tuesday at 11pm. Quest is available on Freeview as well as Sky, Virgin and Freesat.

  28. Surely it makes sense for people to bring their own food and drink in ? Would help offset the admission increase

  29. She has done speedway before, can't remember if she stood in for Natalie once or maybe did some interviews in pits, definitely been involved in speedway before.

  30. They have said “less then 1000” I would have thought max 750 maybe only 500. Peterborough & Belle Vue allowed 1000ish and have a lot more open space.

  31. The items you reference however are the market leaders and have continual development and improvement placed into them to ensure their place in the market and the more premium price tags. At what stage can Speedway claim to have followed that? The premium feel has very much been lost, if it was pitched and viewed as a more rough and ready sport with rough and ready prices i feel more would be willing to over look its many flaws.

  35. More a case of thanking Covid because make no mistake this would have happened but for the lack of a season's racing. Management were entrenched and blinkered so fortunately they got breathing space and someone more empathetic came on board. Irrespective though, the right decision was made so credit where it's due as you say. Hopefully your wife will have enough good days to allow you both to attend.

  36. Funny how some think the more popular an item becomes the cheaper is should be. Try telling that to Bill Gates. Must have paid for the development of Microsoft Office many times over yet still sells the full suite at £300 plus. And what about Dyson with his vacuum cleaners. Who would have thought that today you could pay over £600 for a vacuum cleaner. Dyson is a self made millionaire, not reduced his pricing though. ManUtd/City/Chelsea/Arsenal etc, all very successful clubs, how much do they charge to see a live match? If speedway was to promote itself properly in line with modern day practices and picked up....that will take a massive investment, and the success of speedway would mean prices would go UP.....not down. In a few years time the norm could be £30 not £20. Of course, the progression needed would have to come from "out of the box" thinking.....plus a LOT of investment, not just in one club, but in the whole system....... speedway would need a Bernie Ecclestone or a Barry Hearn. There isnt many of that class about, and I reckon if there is then speedway is not a target they want be involved in.

  38. Can’t get on either kings Lynn or Ipswich atm. 20 months to sort this out. Absolutely hopeless

  39. For me if it was entertaining I’d pay £20 plus. On the flip side the way Speedway is at the moment if it was run in my back garden I’d drawer the curtains. In other words you couldn’t make it cheap enough. As someone who started watching when the Lynn team consisted of Betts, Simmons, Cole, Crump, Crowson,Humphreys ( who was the other one ?). I would never have missed a Saturday night. Including all the fill in meetings. oh to feel that way again

  40. Absolutely spot on but if costs are out of control something needs to be done because increasing admission isn't working. I've no idea the answer but we can all see the way it's going
    1 point
  41. Thats exactly what the speedway fans of the past 10-20 years did and here we are in the present day when the value for money and entertainment issues haven't been adressed in anyway to tempt back paying customers , now its looking like the whole thing is still dying a big death even further the only thing they can think of again is to raise the admission and so the cycle continues with even more people prepared to sit at home .

  43. Whatever the price of imported furniture has to do with speedway admisson prices is lost on me stu19. The clubs all made no losses in 2020, which must have been the first time for a long time , that is if we believe that they all run at a loss as they always claim ? Once again the speedway public have been taken for mugs, cost cutting by signing lower standard riders, (in the case of Kings Lynn no Rob Lambert) Once upon a time I was told that riders wages made up 80% of the costs of runnign a speedway team. Depsite the huge savings that clearly have been made the PL teams have taken the P and increased admission. If this were a temporary surcharge for PPE and other Covid 19 related precautions, then it would be understandable, and be removed once we have got past June . Chances are that there will be no hand soap or sanitiser in the toilets , which will be as filthy as ever. Yes the answer will be don't go if you dont want to shell out £20 per person plus £3 programme plus a £2 seat . Wise advice, stu 19.

  44. The balance when running double headers is generating enough interest to keep people staying behind to watch the second meeting. If there are two matches that serve up plenty of entertainment then the night looks value for money, if the NDL team was getting bashed every week it becomes a harder sell for both products at a higher price.
