Jason crump is in the country, self isolating atm hoping to get some laps in very soon5 points

I thought that too. The forum became a playground for and controlled by bullies. Because of this, I guess John Hyam lost the passion to post on a sport he's loved for decades. Sad really.4 points

and I another one who doe not post, not done for a few months, in fact today is the first time I have spent more then a couple minutes, and that was the moto gp section. Not worth the hassle.3 points

Thanks, White Knight. I felt sorry for the way some treated John as if he was some doddering old fool whose opinion counted for little. I fully understand why he felt enough was enough. God forbid you to have a different opinion than some of those on here. Like you, I also no longer post as much as before. In fact, I forget this forum even exists. Best let the people with the same opinions keep it going. Not worth the hassle to disagree with them and have the gang surrounding you. I am just surprised they are shocked Mr Hyam doesn't reply to their emails! Think that says it all.3 points

You've never said a truer word moxey63 - and it is a disgrace. The way someone in their high eighties was treated on this Forum was totally wrong. I used to enjoy most of John's Posts. Anyhow, that is why I don't bother to Post much these days. It's nice to know I am not alone.3 points

maybe brits are the way to go this year what if overseas riders pull out at the last minute or can’t get to travel, or can’t pay for isolation etc3 points

Enjoyed both meetings, particularly the tremendous match at Leszno. Just great to see speedway back. For an opener, some of the racing was really outstanding. If there are more meetings like that, we are in for a super season.3 points

Totally agree. The Forum is dominated by a number of self-opinionated folk. They will crash down on anyone who disagrees with them. Especially, it seems, if you are elderly like John. It is his treatment that was instrumental in my cutting back drastically on my time on this Forum. I have other things to do now. So it is immaterial to me what anyone thinks. I too, communicate with John by e-mail - I would far rather listen to what he has to say than read some of the nastiness to him on here. Anyway - that is my final Post on the subject - unless I feel the need to defend myself.2 points

Would the "Inner sanctum crowd" like to enlighten the mere Pleb Scorpion fans, who the new rider is?2 points

Newcastle have spotted a potential future problem and solved it, they may well now be weaker as a team, but it also gives CV who lets be honest has been a good servant to the sport in Britain a chance to either find another club, or base his season around riding within the EU which will no doubt make travel prospects a lot easier, ,Fairplay to the Redcar management for sticking with their team, over my years watching the sport one of the biggest gripes is too many team changes year on year2 points

Very interesting and encouraging announcement today about Monarchs' plans for an Academy conduit -- leading from tiny toddlers' bikes right up to the Championship team.2 points

The Toruń/Zielona Gora was a great opener but the match this evening with Leszno/Gorzow really was speedway out of the top drawer. Been a while since we saw some action like that at Leszno... what a season opener! Zmarzlik to lead Gorzow to gold?2 points

I didn't know if this was the thread where to do this, but this is where he was most active... It was a few months ago when our well-known speedway historian from the South London Press, John Hyam (gustix) seemed to fade from the social media scene. You may recall how he departed Facebook, and was desperate to close his account and remove all traces of activity. He also ceased posting on the BSF. Obviously, it can be worrying when people disappear from view, particularly when they are of advancing years. However, it seems that the old chap is doing well, and is active on his Facebook groups. Just wanted to let you all know...1 point

I am glad I visited the site today. Before then, I felt my problem with other members was all of my doing.1 point

It's a certainty that we all have to buy our tickets online. It's the only way you can seriously control the number who attend the meetings.1 point

Hoping we will get to see speedway this year ,with all the uncertainty it could be a British and commonwealth league with a scattering of yanks as well . Whatever is on offer I will support my home track as we can’t go with another blank season1 point

This is out of line. By implication you are stating that Chunky was a bully. That is bollocks. Lots of people had issues with John because of the crap he posted. This includes some of the most respected and mild mannered posters on the forum. Everyone agrees he had the knowledge to offer a huge amount to the forum - just a shame the nonsense posts so heavily outweighed the interesting and informative ones.1 point

Shame about Bydgoszcz being off. Still a big profit for the day but the bookies have got very lucky with the rain and snow. Free money on Gdansk -4. My double will be settled on the one selection too so some profit on that. Well done all @Najjer getting the 8/5 for -12 was Birthday, Christmas and Easter presents all rolled into one lol.1 point

Nasty crash. Desperation from older riders no longer able to compete at the top level or at their previous heights.1 point

Dirty riding from NKI. Should've accepted defeat rather than trying to fence Jamrog.1 point

I know speedway isn't full of younger adults,, but probably enough to make a big dent in the bank balance if not allowed in if hadn't had a jab yet. I don't see speedway using the passport scheme if there is a choice.1 point

To me if we were going for a 7pt rider I can understand the delay. But we are clearly not bringing in a rider on that kind of average. So no point in dragging this out any longer ? Everyones declared their hand already so theres no need for a "big reveal". Personally I would favour one of the Aussie lads who are race ready and committed for what amounts to the 2021 season. They can hit the ground running. But with the likes of Brit James Sargeant still needing to get fixed up could well see us "sticking to the British based" ethos of the league set up and Rob giving the jacket to him ?. Infact is it almost incumbant upon the SGB Chairman to show his support for a young British rider forced onto the sidelines because he has been let go by his club ? We just have to get on with it and see where it takes us ? As Dan say lots of "pan handlings" away and we wont win all the meetings at home. But hey at least we might very well have our Speedway back !1 point

Stick with what you've done. Walasek's rides are as tough as tough could get imo. Heat 01: vs Lyager & Bellego Heat 06: vs Tarasienko & Berntzon Heat 09: vs. Lyager, Berntzon & Gala Heat 11: vs. Zengota, Lyager & Gapinski I can't see him getting half a dozen or more with those heats imo. As for Zengi if he makes the gate then his team mates could very well team ride so Zengi is a much better bet.1 point
-
Yep they look correct - basically you’ll want Bydgoszsz to by winning by 3 or more after heat 8 and by 5 or more after heat 15 - good luck1 point

Zengota over 6 seems abit risky to me, as he’s not guaranteed 5 rides as he has some tricky races. He meets Klindt twice, Gapinski twice and rides with Bellego twice and Tarasenko too.1 point

You’ll want them to win by 5 or more to surpass the handicap. If they win by 4 then the handicap will be tied (there is odds for an exact draw on there too - again, I would suggest covering yourself off on the exact score for larger bets)1 point
-
So you want to click the Over 6 category which is basically saying if you put £11 on you will get a return of £21 making £10 profit. I would suggest it’s worth covering yourself on exactly 6 too, so then if he hits 6 points you will at least break even. I will add, He looked woeful the other day in the big individual meeting. Should do okay though!1 point

That’s correct, both the Tarnow and Bydgoszcz meetings have just been added now for today. You won’t get odds until the actual day of the match is the way that Bet365 usually works.1 point

Easter Sunday comes with the news that trials will take place to see if Covid passports will work. Several big sporting events are selected for the trials including the FA Cup Final at Wembley ( so the TV news reports). But that is on May 15th with Speedway planning to open on 17th and Kents 1st meeting on 18th. Too close for comfort I think. Will see what Boris has to say on Easter Monday.1 point

I'm impressed. Wouldn't it be great to think that might be possible again someday? Sadly I fear not. My own claim to fame was two meetings in a day. Not very impressive you might think, but this was as a sidecar passenger. I was just finishing competing a day on the grass at Ugley in Essex when I got the call from another driver to jump on with him at Brandon. Now, you should know that at this point in time (2003) I was fairly new as a competitor. I had, however, been following the Bees for over 30 years and I'd never had the chance to race there before. This was my "field of dreams". Suffice it say that I spent most of the journey back from Essex ringing all my family and friends to get them to come and see me. The sad end is that although I continued racing for another 6 years, I never had another opportunity to race on the hallowed shale at Brandon. I've long since retired and my "field of dreams" is rusting away. But hey, I crossed the fence. And for the first 48 years of my life, I never imagined that might happen. Not in my wildest dreams. P.S. To keep this on subject, there ain't many that can say they raced at Ryan Sullivan's testimonial, at the showground.1 point

Yes this mandatory advance ticket booking is going to make it impossible for last minute decisions on attending due to weather. Not sure how late in the day you will be able to book online tickets ... but if the cut off is days before the meeting this will deter some folks from booking tickets. Like blueherb777, I have been bitten once too often to even consider travelling with a dodgy weather forecast. A shower of rain nowadays and meetings are OFF.1 point

If only half the stadium is open - this will reduce the maximum crowd capacity , and pro rata reduce the maximum crowd permitted under the 50% of the max capacity rule under the Covid 19 rules for sporting events. You have to have the whole blinking stadium open to allow for social distancing , not just huddle them all together !1 point

Well chaps Easter weekend which used to be a busy time for speedway. Years back meetings with Reading and Oxford in a three team tournament. Then home and away to Oxford on good Friday, then after losing Oxford and Reading it was then Poole home and away. I remember back in 86 we rode away at Oxford on Good Friday then onto Colchester to watch Swindon Town in the evening. Simon Garrett drove, i think Adie Fisher came and i can't remember who the other guy was perhaps someone will remind me. The pub was packed with Swindon fans. Happy days1 point

It is clear from many postings over the years here on the forum and on Facebook pages that Kenny Carter enjoys hero worship status amongst many. Thank goodness I am not the only person who feels deeply uncomfortable by all this. According to Tony Mac’s excellent book, a close friend of Pam’s claimed that Carter regularly hit Pam and prevented her from going out and leading a normal life. So now it turns out our hero is a wife beater, a man who inflicted mental anguish on his wife and then finally a murderer. If Carter’s actions on that fateful night had come about after some blazing argument resulting in a red mist moment, it may have made this whole wretched business 1% more bearable. However we know that Carter travelled to the Huddersfield area the day before the shooting to seek out the murder weapon, eventually sourcing one on the day of the murder so he had plenty of time to consider his actions. The decision he had made, to murder his wife and devastate the lives of two young children, clearly identifies this as a premeditated and truly heinous crime. Some claim Carter had become unhinged over the years and that his actions were fuelled by his, admittedly terrible, upbringing. Some are also now tagging a mental illness spin (with no proof), on the story but listening to Carter’s many inarticulate, and cringeworthy ranting interviews on World of Sport over the years he comes across as a little more than a hot headed child and frankly, not very bright. Many people are raised in deplorable and shocking circumstances but don’t go on to murder. If you take the position that it’s possible to separate Carter’s speedway career from his personal life, then you have to ask yourself this question: Is Kenny Carter’s speedway career more important than Pamela Carter’s life? It’s interesting to speculate about what might have happened had Carter not killed himself that night. Presumably he would have spent the rest of the 80’s, all the 90’s and some of the early century in prison. Would he have been given a heroes welcome home on the day of his release? As a convicted murderer, I doubt that he could have returned to speedway in any capacity and especially now given the extremely high profile nature of the Me Too movement and the game changing outrage over the murder of Sarah Everard. Kenny Carter would today almost certainly be banished to complete obscurity, a sad old man. Would his fans still be lauding him as a hero and legend in these circumstances? But of course by killing himself Carter conveniently avoided all this, thus bestowing upon himself the status of moral coward of the very highest (lowest) order. The achievements of people such as Carter, Phil Spector, Oscar Pistorius and many others in their respective fields, will aways be there on record. Nothing can take that away from them, but what we should do is to stop eulogising them. Their crimes have cancelled their status as legends or heroes. RIP Pam1 point
