Perhaps surprisingly, I don't agree. What's to stop an independent authority acting in exactly the same way as the BSPL have done here ? The answer is a simple one : Let the teams in competing in each league control their own destiny without outside interference but place adjudication of disputes and decisions under independent control. That means that those ploughing time, money and effort into our sport have the final say on operations within their sphere but that the abuse, corruption and self interest we have seen countless times as interested parties determine the outcome of matters relating to the sports regulations ceases.8 points

Is that the answer to any critcism.? Nearly as stupid as asking fans if they have ever ridden a speedway bike.3 points

Thats the ticking time bomb for the league that no one wants to see go off.....3 points

I know Rossiter tries to look like a teenager. But does he really need to come across as a petulant adolescent in his public statements too ?3 points

Why would any investors put their money into greyhound or speedway racing. Two sports that are on their last legs, with minimal financial return. Last night i checked the date of the 'farewell to the Abbey' meeting. It was 11th October 2015, how time flies.3 points

Plenty of time yet to find a suitable candidate. Riss has recently changed his mind on his availability and so might a few others yet as circumstances in many countries, including the UK, change. The promoters at Redcar will do their utmost to put out the best team possible and are to be applauded for not reneging on rider deals, quite refreshing considering passed promoters attitudes.2 points

Fair enough if that's how you feel. I would suggest though that you put yourself forward, make an offer to the promotion and put your money where your mouth is.2 points

People would be delusional, especially considering the promotion hasn't claimed they persuaded him to change his mind.1 point

That's probably a fair assessment but it is first meeting so won't of had the opportunity to be disappointed1 point

WE had asked NewsTeam to instruct those delivering SS that they push mag through a letterbox. Teething problems but we appreciate the patience of you guys.1 point

Trouble is that the promoter of any particular team often doesn't own the stadium and are therefore often compromised by their landlord's whims. We experienced it often enough at Cowley and remember when Bristol Stadiums Ltd owned Oxford Stadium and put the venture at risk (!975) until the SOS Committee stepped in at the last minute. Oxford enjoyed great stability during the Northern Sports era but after their collapse the stadium's future was always under threat although Steve Purchase did offer continuity but only leased the stadium.1 point

BIRMINGHAM have pulled off the stunning signing of German ace Erik Riss.Riss, the current Championship individual title holder, has had a change of mind after originally quitting British Speedway in January. But with the new season due to start in this country on May 17 he’s decided to head back to the UK in a dramatic change of plan. He’s only appeared at Perry Barr once before with former club Redcar and went through the card unbeaten by a Brummies rider. And he’s hoping to hear plenty of noise from the passionate Birmingham fans.He said: “Having passionate fans is always a good thing because if you can hear the crowd when you’re on the track then that is always a good sign as it’s something I like when I’m racing.“I’m the kind of rider who always wants to win so coming to Birmingham I just want to play my part and win races.“It’s always the same whoever I ride for so if the boys in the team have the same attitude then we can win silverware that’s for sure.”He’s also relishing the prospect of facing legendary three-time World Champion Jason Crump when the Australian lines up for Plymouth Gladiators for the first time.“Coming up against Jason Crump this year is going to be pretty cool because he is a legend as a multiple World Champion,” he said.“It's going to be fun coming up against him because I have never had the chance to ride against him before as I only started riding in the UK in 2015.“Overall, though, I think the league looks quite strong but I think the Championship and Premiership are now on a similar level because riders have had to leave the UK with new rules in Poland.”When Riss decided to return to the UK Birmingham made their move quickly because of the attention from other Championship clubs. He won the Championship individual title at Sheffield in 2019 when he got the better of former Brummies man Danny King, Ryan Douglas and Sam Masters in the final.Riss also has experience on the international stage with Germany and is also twice World Longtrack Champion. He completes the Birmingham team for the new season alongside Chris Harris, Ashley Morris, Paco Castagna, Jack Thomas, James Shanes and Valentin Grobauer.1 point

So, if a club has a contract with rider A and the same rider also has a contract with a Polish club, and the Polish club demands (after all contracts are signed) that their contracted riders must stay in Poland. Does that give the British club grounds to sue the Polish club or rider for breaking their British clubs contract.1 point
-
That's why I find it clubs have committed themselves to rider's with Polish contracts. It would have been just as easy to start the season with non Polish contracted rider's & then make changes as & when if the situation allows.1 point

Will be interesting to see how the situation with Holder, Bewley, Kurtz, Klindt and others riding in Poland pans out, at the end of the day if their clubs demand that they remain over there and don’t travel due to covid then that’s what will happen.1 point

Riss won't fit for the Bears unfortunately (without dropping anyone) http://www.redcar-speedway.com/2021/03/26/the-search-goes-on/1 point

At the risk of repeating myself it’s a team built on a budget, otherwise I’m sure the extra money would have been spent to brig it up to the points limit. No doubt having to fund the Panthers too is a large part of that. It looks like a 5th/6th place team unless Bridger explodes back into the scene, if he ends up being a heat leader then everyone moves down a spot in the order and it looks a stronger side, seems unlikely though. What I will say is that I’ve got some enthusiasm back for it, am actually looking forward to going at some point and I haven’t said that too many times since Holder/Batchelor gate in 2017. Fingers crossed the track is slicker so we get done better racing.1 point

Think he may had done had Riss not changed his mind.Would still have had Lawson over Proctor in a heartbeat. I think for this year the promotion have a bit of an excuse in attracting riders to this country with the Polish rule and the ongoing pandemic. But in previous years they didn't have that as an excuse.1 point

In the last decade we’ve lost a few tracks here (St Colomb de Lauzan, Artigues de lussac, St Denis de pile) the grasstrack scene is still big here but clubs are moving more towards speedway. there’s also a speedway track / club at Macon near Lyon1 point

I think you may end up with Eric Riss as your final signing, just a feeling i have.1 point

Not yet, I'd hold off till later next week, they normally come up with one. Last year I got 3 months free.1 point

To me it's simple mathematics and he's gambling on numbers. If he thinks it'll be say 200 die hard fans at £15 or 300 at £10 it's the same income. But to me I can't see those figures working as people will save their money for the championship meetings ie only £3 more to see Nichols etc. £10, especially with big concessions for children must bring in a higher proportion of the usual fans, plus a few extras may give it a go due to a relatively inexpensive evening out.1 point

Many statements have been made over many years at Milton Keynes, Bristol, Reading , Torquay & Swindon but so far not a stadium in sight1 point

Although I've not seen Speedway in France, I've visited all the tracks when watching Grasstrack. Morizes, LaReole and Marmande are all on the infields of Grasstracks, Lamothe-Landerron is purpose built for Speedway, all around the Bordeaux area. I don't know the crowd levels for Speedway, but it's a hotbed for Grasstrack with large crowds. The Marmande meeting on the eve of Bastille Day is one of my favourite Track Racing meetings and compares with Cardiff and any Speedway Grand Prix I've been to for entertainment and atmosphere. Don't be put off by the Grasstrack bit, the Stadiums are better than many Speedway tracks in this country1 point

Phil, I didn’t receive my copy last week and nothing as yet today. I emailed Subs@pinegen & tweeted twice but no response which is disappointing I fully understand that delivery process changes can lead to problems, but a lack of response to messages isn’t great. My subscription is out of loyalty rather than need, so I do expect a bit of better customer service to be honest! Paul1 point

Another legitimate occasion was 1997 when Reading used R/R all season for Tara O`Callaghan who broke his leg in the 1st meeting. The team manager at the time got plenty of stick for going down such an outrageous path.1 point

A very fair, rational assessment I would say... And as hardly anyone remembers who 'wins' any league anyway, (Covid impacted or not), never mind who had 'successful' seasons, or had 'poor ones', your outlook is 100% the correct one to have... British Speedway has evolved over the past two decades into many fans just going to watch the 'racing', rather than having too much interest in the result, so let's hope this season sees that trend continue and 'racing starved' fans turn out to support their local clubs in good numbers, and enjoy watching what's on offer.. Scunthorpe in particular wont be a track short of entertainment I would think given its past history..1 point

Fully agree, would love to see speedway back at that awsome track, went every week from86 to 97, even some exhibition meetings this year would be a good taster, I now live in Lincolnshire but would be up like a shot. Full credit to Steve Rees & Startrax for bringing Odsal back to life.1 point

Thing is the growth has to start somewhere and many tracks back in the day were in the middle of fields with poor access and the sites build and develop slowly as you progress... Rob Godfrey has developed Scunthorpe over the years into a good venue now and that didn't happen over night and remember back to when they first took over that site... it was pretty basic to say the least... The question is would the discerning fans of Workington be happy (at first hopefully) watching an NDL side perform along the lines of how Mildenhall or the Isle of Wight have done as we all know in this sport numbers are critical for running a successful team... there is always a break even point... Last time I had a look down just before the Christmas lock down there were tons of muck piled around the place that had been excavated out and just as many piles of shale from the old DP site ready I assume to go back down and it looked like a moon scape! well even more like a moon scape than it usually does if you could get gypsies and travellers on the moon!!! Good luck to them and if/when it comes back all they will need are fans through the turnstiles... the other thing is if they don't run a league team of some description there will be a fantastic training track down there to bring the young kids on... so a win win for Workington for me... So instead of looking for an elusive top second string, sign two weak ones instead. Great advice! All those options are already signed up or not riding and Tom Perry has never got beyond a 3 pointer in years.1 point

Under the limit or not i would love to see Connor Mountain get a place and certainly think he could do a very good job in the 1-5. Far too good a rider to not have a CL berth this season.1 point

Not really, all it would take is Swindon restarting and one Champ team wanting some TV exposure and it’s back to eight. You really should cut out all this ‘us and them’ stuff, it benefits nobody.1 point
