  1. What about... "The League of Scotland"...? Meet each other home and away 16 times, so 32 matches.. (Similar to the way Scotland runs its football)... Add two Play Off Semi's and a Play Off Final and that's 35. Throw in a "Scottish Cup", (semis and Final), and you get 38 fixtures. Similar to the boat race down here, the same two teams will qualify each year for the final... And to be fair, a two team top league in Scotland will only be 4 less that the top league in England...

  2. I read last week that Garry May said that Somerset were interested in running the meeting if allowed. The management will probably decide on Scunthorpe due to its close proximity to Cardiff

  3. I'd still personally make 3 changes, not that I can see Rob doing that.. personally, i just cant wait to be back on the terraces with me mates, and got a plymouth/poole away holiday in mind too, even though we're gunna get smashed

  5. Still maintain the most important thing for 2021 is getting back on track and fans in stadiums- team strength are important and ending the season with the wooden spoon isn’t obviously were any club wants to be but build towards March 2022 i say and start promoting the sport as well because after 20 months of no speedway some fans may have realised they haven’t missed speedway so don’t presume all fans will return.

  10. I think he may be correct in that if fans are still not allowed to attend up here by mid April it will not become viable for us to run. Sturgeon will not allow this, I suspect it will be nearer July/August before she considers relaxing this and for this reason i don't think we will run this year , only my opinion.

  11. Just a thought. Wonder what Josh Grajczonek plans are maybe he could be picked up by Kings Lynn now that Sheffield are not using him.

  12. Thats a big blow, he was definitely the trump card at reserve. We wont find a similar replacement from who is left.

  13. Having just read this week's sequel of Brian Burford's excellent series in SPEEDWAY STAR on the History of Speedway in Rhodesia, I must say, I am absolutely fascinated. Sad but highly interesting was the part which described the fatal accident of Ricky Wolhuter as told first hand by Jon Bower, who was involved in the crash. Also this week some unexpected footage of Rhodesian speedway from 1971 has turned up on YouTube. Even though it comes without sound, this historic footage is in full color and is of very good quality. This could be the only Motion Pictures surviving to this day of speedway racing in Rhodesia. It is nine minutes with scenes of the 1971 league racing at Bulawayo and Gwelo. Easily recognizable among the riders featured are Barry Duke, Graham Plant, and Oivind Berg in his lightblue pullover. Please take a closer look at this film and let us all know which of the other riders You can identify. More info and pictures on the Rhodesian speedway history can be found on the excellent Speedway-SA website https://www.speedway-sa.com/rhodesia-2.php

  14. Quite right! - so imagine my amusement at others on various other threads, hoping and praying that Bradford, Oxford, Swindon and Somerset join the league next year. Guests, double-ups, triple-ups and who knows what tricks will need to be performed to fill another 28 "Sits Vacant".

  20. There is nobody out there to replace Jake and score what he would have done at home or away. There are 3 clubs in for that sort of rider, think all 3 clubs may have to run a few points under the limit.

  22. From your (self appointed) Johannesburg correspondent: Sadly speedway in Southern Africa is not what it was and the days of world class riders such as Henry Long and Doug Davies (not forgetting Buddy Fuller) are long gone. In later years riders like Peter Prinsloo, Denzil Kent and Mike Ferreria emerged but we are unlikely to see their like ever again. This quote from https://www.speedway-sa.com/ says it all: "As of 2019 there is no longer any motorcycle dirt track speedway racing in South Africa." So sad.

  23. With some juggling the meeting is still on youtube. Isoaho won, suolammi had a spectacular off while second. Max has been riding ice now for two seasons. This was his first meeting, but he’s been riding regularly and weekly with his mates in the area.

  24. I would love to see the 2nd option but sponsors, in speedway, are hard to find. Also, Jake would be here only riding in the 1 league until Premiership clubs make changes.

  25. That's the thing, yes people just want racing, but after a few thrashings at home, just wanting some racing will soon become "I'm not watching that s#!+ anymore".

  29. Don't think you are wrong it looks less and less likely that we will be running.

  30. Yep I agree with this, the priority this year has to be to get folk through the door, both previous regulars and newbies although you wonder if that can/will happen under the current regime. As for the league position, I can stomach finishing last as long as the majority of home meetings are won, the racing is good (ie better than it has been) and the away defeats are respectable and not clatterings.

  34. Tom Brennan is a great signing, he had a bad injury and of course last season was a non event so a couple of wasted years, but he can go far in the sport..

  35. I don't think that is a valid comparison. There are potentially a plethora of venues that could stage a GP, or alternatively it would be possible to run the GP series with one less round, so WADA's ban should still apply. The Ice Speedway World Final this year was unique, as there clearly wasn't a venue outside of Russia that could have staged the event with all those nominated to compete in attendance, plus with spectators permitted.

  36. Rather than worrying over whos going to win what I reckon most of us are just hugely grateful to get back to the tracks again come what may ? But as you press me on it I cannot see past. 1 Poole 2. Leicester 3. Glasgow 4. Eastbourne 5. Edinburgh 6.Redcar 7. Berwick 8.Birmingham 9. Plymouth 10 Kent 11 Scunthorpe 12 Newcastle Pains me to dump Scunny second bottom but unless we sign a bone fide No1 ? Its going to be close run at the EWR every match and wallopings away. I think Plymouth might suprise a few if Crump & Pedersen get into gear and say Ruuml steps up. Of course it all hinges on who stays fit and finds form ? Another factor is the best part of 18 months enforced "suspension" for the British base riders. Whilst the Aussie based riders ie: Ryan Douglas !, should hit the season running against UK based race rusty racers. Then again the "rising stars" might spring a suprise ? A lot is anticipated from Jordan Palin at Scunny and he could be "the rising star" if too much pressure is not heaped on him ? As, I say its not so much about winning titles because having Speedway back on some sort of regular basis is a win in itself for all of us !

  38. Having spent the last 4 or 5 days virtually non stop with little breaks, I’ve now completed the National ‘Development’ League Fixtures. It’s certainly been a challenge this one has, with it going to be a short season and less dates to play with and trying to please every club by spreading out the away fixtures the best I could. I must thank all 8 clubs for their patience, help and understanding. As stressful as it was, it was enjoyable to do and I’m looking forward to working with these 8 clubs during the 2021 season when we get going in May. A couple of nights even involved me staying awake to between 3-4am, checking dates, availability and clashes and I wasn’t even on nights. Just shows the commitment and time I put into this Voluntary job! I’ll be sleeping a lot for the next 3 days, so no more fixture changes yet please!

  40. I hope some of the racing makes up for the lack of overall quality. Just had a browse at the teams. All a bit of a mish mash. Poole clearly stand out as the team to beat as expected. Can’t see why anyone rates the budgies. Other than Eddie they don’t look that good, though it will be great fun reviving the rivalry and picking up our usual win at Arlington. Leicester look ok but it’s gate and go. Just have to get to the first bend leading and it’s all over. More passing on The Bidding Room. The rest? Nothing to see. By the way I see the name Paul Hurry in the Kent side. Is that old ex rider Paul Hurry’s son? If not.....hahaha.. As for Plymouth, having two old riders in Bjarne and Crump might get the crowd in for a few meetings but when they are trailing at the back that novelty will soon wear off. Still, this has to be better than last year.

  41. Just finished the book...a fascinaing read if somewhat sad. I saw quite a bit of Kelly during his Eastbourne days. A very talented individual but I have to admit away from the track he would have both irritated and annoyed me with his many antics but I guess I would have been in the minority?
