A few yrs back Scunthorpe had a cracking side on paper and we’re worth favourites . As the season started they were rocked by injuries Steve Worrill broken leg , Stefan Neilson broken and Jason Garrity missed a lot of matches in the early season. . . The key is keeping the bulk of your squad injury free sadly in speedway that doesn’t always work out5 points

Good to see Adam Ellis riding over here... No overnight sensation like some, but instead is a rider that has made steady incremental improvements... With still a fair bit to come I reckon..3 points

As a 16 year old I was waiting to go out for my first ever laps of a Speedway track on a grass bike at Eastbourne following a meeting when Kelly came over and very politely asked if I would mind him either going out before or with me. There was no need for him to ask, as the big star at the time he could have just gone out or even had my ride cancelled so he could get some laps in. Genuinely nice guy who always seemed to chat to everybody and was helpful to youngsters riding, although if I'd been a fan of his team he would have driven me mad at times when he turned up totally unprepared to go racing. Incidentally about 25 years later it was Greg Hancock did exactly the same with my son at Oxford. Very different to some riders of the time who forced the cancellation of a whole set of after meeting races for youngsters so they could test engines (although to be fair that may have been the Promoter saying it was the riders as at least one of the riders was horrified when he found out afterwards)3 points

I hope he does very well as he certainly has the talent, my point though about him was meant more as a generalisation that riders who constantly need a break etc are always a gamble as they can leave the team in the lurch, Though plenty of teams are far to quick to drop an under performing rider2 points

No the rising star just has to be on that list - the rest are built to averages It is very bizarre though that a rising star can have an average over 2 points higher than any other The list is wrong - the averages are not2 points

Should be top team goes into play off final, with 2nd and 3rd placed teams, to fight it out to join them imho.1 point

Think it'll be a very interesting and tight league Top 4 between Leicester; Eastbourne; Glasgow; Poole Next 4 Berwick; Edinburgh; Redcar ; Kent Bottom 4 Brummies; Scunthorpe, Plymouth Newcastle Replacement Heat Leaders going to be in short supply and second strings. Injuries and possible replacements vital Will benefit Clubs with assets not currently in CL and who may be able to replace injured riders.1 point

I see Eastbourne, Leicester & Glasgow as favourites Redcar and Scunthorpe could do well, but much depends on who they get to fill their last spots Berwick, Poole, Edinburgh & Birmingham (again depending on who they sign) look like mid table unless someone makes great strides And sorry, but Newcastle, Kent & Plymouth to be down at bottom. HOWEVER - those views are based on teams as declared now, we all know injuries occur and teams might change so all to play for. These are my genuine opinions, feel free to debate and disagree, but please don't take offence if you think I have downgraded your team's chance - compared to your own views1 point

You are so wrong. I may be in the minority but having watched speedway for over 60 years, the result of my team winning is only a bonus as long as I am entertained, then I go home happy.1 point

I’d probably swap Sheffield for Belle Vue although there is very little between them. Top four looks pretty clear cut on paper.1 point

All teams weakened this season. Early days but belle vue and Sheffield looking good sides.1 point

To be honest I don't care who we sign.....will just be pleased to see some speedway again.1 point

Bydgoszcz have said on a few occasions they are hopeful on Josh Grajczonek coming back, so unless anything has changed recently he should be in Europe at least.1 point

I've just read Kelly Moran's book 'Hell of a Life' and just to put the record straight after he had left the UK for good he decided to resurrect his career back in the States. He initially found the laydowns difficult to handle but managed to overcome them and got to enjoy riding them...fellow Statesman Mike Faria, however, hated them stating that they were somewhat unpredictable.1 point

Not seen tbh. My one hope is that they can somehow persuade Thorssell to ride over here.1 point

So Adam Ellis to Sheffield so can scrub that one off the list. Could we seriously end up going into a season with Cook, Lawson and Jorgensen as the heat leaders?1 point

Brilliant. I've been trying (and struggling) to get enthusiasm for Sheffield, as my "second" team with Swindon pulling out. With Steady, Batch and now Adam there I might even make a trip up to watch the Tigers this year. Now, where's my Sheffield Tigers polo shirt? I'm sure I've still got it somewhere.1 point

Each week in the Speedway Star's on & off track questions riders are asked what they would change in the sport, they often have very little or nothing they want changed! It's a worry if no-one has any idea how to improve the sport or worse still that the sport doesn't need improving!1 point

I happened to see that in another section of this forum , handicap racing has been suggested to avoid the processional races that we sometimes see. This was of course tried in National League racing back in 1963. The ‘Big Five’ (Fundin, Knutson, Briggs, Moore and Craven) started off a 20 yard handicap with certain other heat leaders (How, McKinlay, Boocock etc.) starting off 10 yards and the second strings starting from scratch. I attended most of Wimbledon’s home meetings that year and recall that Gerald Jackson given a 20 yard start proved a difficult man to pass and there were other second strings who enjoyed similar success. The experiment was abandoned after a revolt by the 20 yard men with Barry Briggs being the most vociferous. I think it very unlikely that reintroducing such a system would ever be seriously considered in the future but would be interested to hear what others think.1 point
