Surely this is a 'World wide event' and not just our "puppet Prime Minister and his psychopathic henchmen" who are driving this. So who is in 'overall' control of this World wide collaboration? NOW GET OFF THIS THREAD AND JOIN THE REST OF THE IDIOTS ON THE COVID THREAD !6 points

I agree unfortunately, let's prepare for a season though or else it definitely won't happen3 points

Doesn’t matter where in the country I’m from, your idiotic conspiracy theory doesn’t belong on any page never mind a speedway discussion. You've contributed nothing , just made a ridiculous statement. Having lost a relative and two good friends to something you claim doesn’t exist is just insulting.3 points

As things stand there will be as much speedway in 2021 in UK as there was in 20203 points

They had to release someone, as none of our 2020 riders satisfied the criteria. if we had kept Connor then Joe would have replaced Skorja and we would be about 5 points below the limit. It is possible that without the rule change we could have signed Ben to replace Nic and still been under the limit (assuming Adam Roynon average is less than 5.00)2 points

This would be the Saphires team ! I did say there would be a drop in standards , because most of the previous heat leaders in the NL will be riding as graded reserves in the championship so that equals out. Joe and Josh become experienced riders in this new level with the likes of Archie, Dean and others getting a chance to show there worth. Is that what the NL was intended to be , a platform for new youngsters ?2 points

Isn't it more about experience for the young lads rather than winning in the nl? Some of the lesser riders should be given a chance2 points

Things could swing either way for Speedway if it gets to start. With what's been near 12 months of restrictions the idea of open air sports may appeal, even to those that's never been before. British Speedway need to be prepared & push local area marketing.2 points

Might be too big a facility for league racing but would make a great venue for a speedway version of Rugby Leagues 'Magic Weekend'. I know Bradford isn't the greatest place to spend a weekend but it's close enough to Leeds to make it attractive to visit. Run all of the shared events (pairs, 4's, riders championship even a knockout cup) over a weekend and pack the place out. Nicely located for fans from the North and South. Great memories of the 1990(?) World Final. Great atmosphere.2 points

What extraordinary ignorance. What a crassly stupid post. The Government is full of laissez-faire libertarians, and the last thing they would want is a populace reliant on the state.2 points

Not sure if Max is allowed/should be allowed now he have a four/five plus CL average and a 2021 CL team place. But I'm sure all the CL #7's will want to ride in the NL. Alcock averaged 4.36 for Stoke. Last winners of NL were Leicester: Perks, Hume, Ruddick, Terry-Daly, Embleton/MacDonald and the Thompson twins (who started as 2 pointers) So you only need 2 or 3 established riders to have a viable team. With all the comebacks who knows who's next? Maybe that's how you end up with a hernia For the Sapphires wouldn't Archie and Danny step up to the 500's with Owen Booth and A N Other on the 125's? Did I read somewhere that the lad Trigger (no not that one) who rides in the British Youth Champs was connected to the Diamonds? Anyways we seem to have hijacked THJ's official thread so apologies for that.1 point

Had to have a Rising Star and didn't have one in the original 1-7. So they didn't necessarily have to release Mountain but one of the original 1-7.1 point

So if you've had it, then it is obviously real!! (I swear you are implying there is no virus but maybe I need to reread the posts). 80% of people only get it mildly but obviously people with other health concerns might not be so lucky.1 point

The latest tweet of pics from the stadium says that shale will be arriving soon, so they clearly plan to make it a shale track.1 point

That's why it's a rubbish rule!!! Newcastle have been forced to release Connor Mountain to slot in Joe Alcock. no disrespect to either rider. but I would still class Leon Flint and Connor Mountain as possible stars of the future. How many of these "rising Stars" will have their confidence shattered finishing last every race they are up against the more established riders and quit the sport all together, as has happened on more than one occasion in the past. Do they stay at reserve all season?? Like in Poland . (where it was obvious from day 1 that Lezno would win the title as their two compulsory reserves were actually good quality 2nd strings). Or do they move into the team proper if their averages are high enough. A better, in my view, system would be:- Minimum 3 brits per team. one to be under 24, and one (or even two) to be under 20. Irrespective of average. They take their place in the team according to average. That way the "rising stars" would come into the championship when they are ready, and teams are not forced to introduce someone before he is ready1 point

Covid/ Polish League is the straw that broke the camel’s back. Speedway’s issues date back a long time before Poland became the dictators of all things Speedway. For 20/30 years Promoters have just kicked the can down the road until there is nowhere left to kick it. My interest has declined year on year until there is little to nothing left in it for me. Will be interesting to see where they pitch it price wise and the crowds that are prepared to watch it.1 point

Exactly this. Total pie in the sky to think there will be any league speedway in the UK this year.1 point

Not that I’m aware of, but no injuries would stop him if he wanted to, and injury is not the reason he stopped riding1 point

wish all young riders success but all being labelled a rising star isnt going to help them, obviously theyre not "stars" a really silly name1 point

I think Max ruml would be a great signing to have at Ipswich. Just won the AMA national back in December. The Americans typically go well on the smaller tracks so foxhall is perfect. He deserves a chance to try out in Europe in my opinion1 point

Although I try to understand your perception of this virus I do understand where Steve55 is coming from although not in total agreement of his response.regardless of your political take on the situation,it would not matter which government was in charge, the outcome would be no different.these are unprecedented times in which we currently live.this virus is a serious killer, let's not move away from that fact and as Steve 55 pointed out,is worldwide.i work for the NHS and have witnessed first had the distress of staff and the anxiety of not just NHS staff but other public sector workers too, including myself.im not going carry on this debate and my original question was just about asking people's opinion on whether or not racing will resume this season given cancellations of festivals etc already.in all honesty, what more can the government possibly do?they are inbetween a rock and a hard place and I think that they are doing their utmost.1 point

I'm sure the BSPL announcement on Thursday mentioned 'any Brit with average of 4.00 or less' would get a star-rating of 3, 2 or below. Neil Vatcher will have the best overview.1 point

Ha ha. Not really, They have a great entertaining top end, and we have to assume all the other riders will turn up, and getting a decent reserve shouldn't be that difficult.1 point

Are there any plans to change the conversion factor? If it stays at 1.6 then Josh Auty will be the most sought after rider in British speedway1 point

In my opinion if and it’s a massive IF the season starts at some point durning 2021 we should all be grateful we have racing in 2021 team strengths is almost secondary for the coming season . May 1st start date is very optimistic in my opinion though .As for admission costs they won’t go down they never do 2019 charge should be retained.Any club that put admission up is very brave .1 point

Just another farcical decision to call anybody “rising star” simply call it “grading and we can argue all we want.Anybody could be a”rising star”1 point

All products of the TRAINING school apart from alcock wallinger & Phillips & also a lot have forgot about the likes of Liam Carr who came through the school aswell & also jack Flynn who had some got practice sessions last season1 point

The press release about the 16:00 start time definitely mentioned double headers with National League matches. And there's been a load of press releases about Freeman and Smith signing to ride for the Gems in the National League so I'm sure there's an intention to run the Gems in the NL.1 point

It was the 1982 League Cup. Coventry lost out on race points to Cradley who went on to win it. I was there that night and Colin's last heat win brought the house down. A lot of people thought it was natural justice, considering how the Bees approached the start of that season...1 point

I agree, i also feel the same way about Premier league football. I'm not sure i could ever pay those prices again on a regular basis.1 point

Must admit has much as I've missed my speedway fix spending £18+ every week has got me thinking is it worth it. Certainly not vfm for the standard were getting1 point

Getting fixtures out isn’t that imperative as the way things are going the chance of starting the season in May is becoming more of a BSPA fairytale dream. There’s a long way to go with this crisis and far more important issues to deal with other than speedway.1 point

Yes, probably they agreed to publish them in a weeks time as per the statement, but clubs being clubs don't always comply with the request for their team.1 point

But they are, Premier League allowed 3 subs from 9 on the bench, EL five subs from the bench, however this doesnt alter the fact that the BSPL like to put its spoke in the National League wheel, a wheel which it has little idea about how its run and tries to ride rougshod over whenever it doesnt like whats happening, such as not allowing so called ghost teams, a Ghost team will always attract a few more supporters than the Junior team of a senior team, those supporters simply will simply stay away. As an example Wolverhampton rode in the Conference League watched by one man and his dog, they changed the name to Dudley Heathens and we all know what happened then.. If a promotion wants to ride its junior team under a historic name whats the harm it it ?, BSPL answers on a post card please.1 point
