  1. Self interest! Thats the problem with the management committee in a nutshell

  2. Have to agree,it’s a bit of a silly statement from Godfrey. He has no control over Clubs terms and conditions regarding signing riders.Riders averages would also have to be taken into consideration.Just a nonsense statement.

  3. In this week's Speedway Star Alun Rossiter say they FIM should step in over Poland maybe flexing it's muscles a bit too much. That said, at the risk of stating the probable obvious, I think the time has come for British Speedway to run with what it can afford, which if that means no GP-level riders, so be it. When I began watching at Hull from 1974-on I was horrfied over the idea of a possible drop into the 2nd division, then the New National League, as division 1, or Brtish League speedway, and seeing world class stars week in-week out, was all that I knew. From 1995 - 2005 in Hull it was divison 2 Premier League all the way, apart form the 1999 season, and you know what; it was still speedway. If British Speedway isn't viable for the top riders and / or the BL can't afford them, then go with what we have, it'll still be speedway....

  4. It has been said that the promoters have been having Zoom time meetings during the covid19 situation so I would surmise that all would have had some input in these discussions. http://www.speedwaygb.co.uk/news.php?extend.38468 Have some of you actually read the statement? It says that there could be team changes! We know Leicester COULD be making a change because of the situation with Perks sponsors. It also says it is his OPINION so not a rule or regulation.

  6. Can't believe everything won't be the same as this year points wise etc. Teams who want the same team can, those who don't or can't know the limit now.... But this is the BSPA!!!

  7. i think the public loved Dave Norris . sadly him not being pc (what the fans loved )was his downfall

  8. They may ,but they can’t make teams sign riders they can’t agree Terms with. They could ban all Foreigners then watch all hell let loose!!! They couldn’t run a raffle.IMO .It’s all about self interest.

  9. Would of thought Nathan Greaves is on the list. Overlooked by Championship for 2020. Was included in the Dale Devils National League Squad.

  10. Well this seems to be another VIRUS that's being labelled very dangerous ( it may be ) but to be fair nee body has a clue about it really as it just hoys a different symptom out every time !! It could be sote limbs loss of taste & smell etc.. so the best way to avoid it is probably common sense which all politicians seem to be lacking at the moment.. my prediction is they will open up come december the 2nd/3rd to get the shops booming for Xmas & then do another lockdown mid to late january for a few weeks the come Easter which I think is the beginning of April 2021 everything will be open again

  11. I would imagine that the FIM prefer their SGP riders to be riding in less leagues. Don't suppose they'd ever endorse what the Poles are doing but I suspect they'll turn a blind eye. They'd only intervene if the Polish authorities actions were impacting on the SGP series. I suspect you're correct and British speedway will have to learn to live without International stars..... ....which, with a few notable exceptions, I thought it already was.

  12. ha ha. Not mentioning of course it's the people who don't follow their rules that possibly put others in hospital with the virus. The government has already stated that after the 2nd of December, it will be back to the Tiers, but hoping that most areas will have seen a reduction in the R factor which is why we are having the lockdown.

  13. If it was MY opinion you could knock it all you want ,but when the people like Godfrey give these kind of thoughts it doesn’t give much hope for thE Sport.

  15. All the pronouncements have been about same 1 to 7s. Would not put it past some to have been busy assembling new teams to reduced limits to suit themselves in the slightest. Don't have to be Einstein to work out which teams will be in on the secret. Lower team average would mean MORE riders out of a job, not less. A crazy prospect.

  16. Huewan was very good at studio presenting but can't remember him commentating (not saying he didnt) Could bring back Jonathan Green for the pit interviews too...... I think the combination of his poor commentary, lazy knowledge base, and his sheer desire to bleed money from our sport at every turn, Getting Nigel Pearson out the commentary seat would be akin to speedway getting its own bank holiday.

  17. David Norris that is just a name from the distant past ... An irrelevance today despite his comedic value 15 years ago. And Keith Huewen ... I just despair ...

  18. ReRun Productions put together a double DVD which is still available to buy called 'Danny Ayres - The Showman' with all proceeds going to Danny's Family. It is really a great tribute to Danny, and includes some footage from the Island along with some other companies footage as well. I also believe this is now available to buy as a stream from ReRun Productions.

  19. I know that and fully understand the reasons behind it. I am merely highlighting the issue as a comparison against the Poles

  20. typical Godders , he and trump would make a great team in speedway management . one could finance it and the other could run it into the ground . you choose who the manager is and who is the clout behind the club . . enjoy it while you can , it will be bankrupt in a few years . 2022 restart ?

  21. He Can’t force teams to pick riders he thinks deserve a place who’s to say other clubs feel the same.

  22. This is a really interesting point and pretty much bang on the money. It comes as no surprise or coindence when our current best riders in the world grew up in Australia or in Germany I believe in Woffinden and Lambert. Gone are the days of a packed second half meeting and continuous training schools. It’s great there is the U15 championship and a few other youth rounds but it’s nowhere near enough. Nowadays when riders sign for a team over here, they rock up a few hours before, ride 4/5 races and then go home until the next time. The Poles are at training throughout the week, constantly on the bike and this is why they are light years ahead of us in development at that level.

  23. Such a pity that your lasting memory of one of Britain's greatest riders was that fiasco at Ipswich. You seem to forget the role of Ebdon played, A referee with a personal vendetta, created all those problems. No, Lee didn't like the new starting rules but it should be noticed Mike had no trouble with any other referees . The incident at Ipswich was so extreme that Ebdon took his personal vendetta to penalise Lee at every opportunity. this day he stopped the race at the end of the second lap to exclude Lee, even though the offence had been committed before to the start of the race. Surely had Lee been in the wrong he should have excluded him immediately instead of waiting till Lee hit the front before putting on the red light. This wasn't the first time he had experience problems with Ebdon. They had clashed 3 times earlier in the year. Lee was wrong to withdrew his services, but this short fuse reacted without thinking. What should have been a brilliant meeting was spoilt for all the wrong reasons. I am not blind to see the all the wrongs Lee actually committed, but to remember him for that afternoon is very short sighted. There were far more good and bad times, than that day in question..

  25. Not sure why you come to that conclusion. He won 6 out of his 14 rides and got a 8.67average from those meetings and was mixing it with the best.

  26. When we were up in Salford back in the 90's, we had a drive around the area (never spent any time in Manchester other than trips to Belle Vue), and Maine Road was just the same. Obviously, there were many more back in the day...

  27. Unfortunately, while I certainly remember my trips to Custom House with great fondness, the fact that I was only a kid when they closed does blur the memory a little! Of course, I made many more trips up to Hyde Road in the 80's. Having said that, I do agree with you. It does sound like we feel the same way. Yes, construction was very "basic" with the old stadiums (football as well as speedway), but for me, there was something very romantic about concrete, wood, and corrugated iron! Seriously! I know I'm weird, but there is a certain mystique to early 20th Century British architecture. Of course, I think a big part of that was having a big bloody stadium plonked in the middle of terraced housing!

  28. Not enough meetings to assess the effects of almost 2 years on the injury list then. Hope Bydgoszcz show him patience.

  30. Maybe it would be possible for either just you or a combined effort by people who video meetings around the country to compile a programme of races with Danny in. He was such a showman I am sure it would be popular and could maybe raise some funds for Danny's family who I am sure would also welcome the video as a memory of Danny at his best.

  32. I don't think anyone here has ever mentioned keeping Sam in the job. I just made it plain that Dave Rowe had done a great job this season and for the last few years on Eurosport. Personally my choice of 'second chair' would be Chris Louis.

  33. Since the end of the first lockdown and the start of the second, i have attended 4 speedway meetings and 24 football matches all at different grounds. A pretty decent total considering the circumstances.

  34. When riders are signing up and agreeing to contracts on Poland when it knowingly means they can only ride in 1 other league, how is that a restriction of trade? They have agreed to the rules in place by signing the contract.

  35. Sure will... got the old BCG at school an never looked back... They should be made compulsory... this thing is a killer and anything that helps to fight it off and stops it spreading is okay by me... Had a business lunch on Osbourne Road in Jesmond about 3 weeks back and there were students on the other table planning a Covid party cos they reckoned once they had it that would be it... idiots... give me a jab any day of the week... Regards THJ
