  1. Nice one AndyS. Never forget that Martin Scarisbrick ride. The days when Newcastle ruled the shale (well at that level anyway)!

  2. Having known Garrity since his Coventry days, I always found him to be obliging and friendly whenever I saw him. Always shook my hand or hugged me, asked how I was and how the family was. He always tried hard with his social skills and tried to do his bit for the fans. Obviously nobody can condone what he has done and the punishment in prison is absolutely the correct decision. I really hope the people he terrorised can get on with their life in some sort of normal capacity tho God knows how difficult that might be. I'm certainly not going to defend anything he has done because you can't, but I do think he was someone who was easily led into trouble and once you get involved in drugs its a really tough road back.

  3. Completely off topic for a minute but just found this bit of nostalgia on YouTube 1983 4TT finals with Beaton hunter Emerson Joe Owen and Martin Scarisbrick

  4. Damned if they do, Damned if they don't on here! If they wait for Covid to go they'll wait until 2022 or 2023 and that would kill any Sport. Better to plan and announce as usual in hope something may be possible, than do nothing and then have to rush with accusations they haven't planned. A few teams got racing on with 400 to 500 allowed in September, if that's how speedway has to start up so be it. Something is better than nothing so may be for once stop moaning and whining and cut them some slack. I'm sure all Promoters and Clubs want to race so let's support speedway, why else are we here?

  7. Lidsey is riding for Vastervik - so he has already decided. It used to be reckoned that Sweden was at least double the UK

  8. Its a shame that the Poultec stuff seems to have been hidden amongst a thread for a someone convicted of an evil crime. The Poultec scheme looks an excellent programme for young riders and they deserve lots of positive coverage for it imo

  9. No, it isn’t. It’s logical to plan for the worst and hope for the best. To plan a full season that won’t happen (again) would be foolish and incur more needless expense. The state of the sport here it won’t be hard to pull a season together if we need to come spring. Fixtures are never released until late in the day anyway. This is a forum for opinion, that is why we’re here. Not to blindly just go “Speedway is great isn’t it,” like automatons. Sadly the opinion of most Speedway fans (the most important people), is seemingly that the people running the sport have used up their credit of goodwill and need to pull their finger out and do something positive. And that is regardless of the fact that there is a pandemic going on.

  10. Where I live many people don't vote in UK elections, local and national, as they 'can't be bothered', and I don't mean disabled or those unable to walk far. What is particularly disappointing is some of those non-botherers, who still moan about the government, they couldn't be bothered to vote either for or against, live so close to their polling station with a strong gust of wind they could literally jump off their house roof and likely land on said polling station's roof....

  11. Gdansk are trying to get Oleg Mikhailov as the U24 rider. If they get him then Gdansk in the PGE Ekstraliga 2022 is an odds on shot.

  13. Is it still an 'if' for Lambert to Torun? Will be a massive L imo to see him go their alongside the Holder's. That club & those 2 will drag Lambert down, he needs to be away from them. Plus if their squad is correct they look an absolutely awful team.

  14. Bewley was a different rider towards the end of the season when he started using Woffindens engines. If they can get him on top kit next year he could have a good season. Hopefully Drabik can make a full return after whatever ban has been completed.

  15. For the best part of two decades the collective powers that be have buried their heads in the sand, thrutching around from one knee jerk plan to another, without ever accepting the glaring fact that they couldn't afford the riders that they kept insisting they needed. Riders whose own personal agendas often meant matches taking place as contrived, credibility destroying 'guestfests', or ran on nights suited to their calendars, rather than suited to when their clubs would have liked to have ran to get their largest crowds in.. Maybe Covid has finally meant that the "go it alone" policy, that should have been instigated years ago when it was clear Poland were calling the tune, will finally come to fruition and British Speedway will start to be in charge of it's own destiny..

  20. So that means we can do away with "General Discussions"? No point in having two sections with the same title and content, is there? Oh, and who is "jingo"? Is he the person who starts a "discussion", and then hides it when people start "discussing" it?

  21. I personally wouldn't care if we rode at Div2 level with one big league with more local riders invested in their home club. We are like many other sports now where the power lies elsewhere, e.g. ice hockey, basketball, etc who have to rely on British talent and people who frankly are no longer or never were good enough in the best leagues. A parallel could be drawn with MLS football which is very successful using USA talent and lesser talents from elsewhere. Its true that people like to watch big names but that's no longer possible so we must emphasise the team aspect more. It no longer makes sense to fly people from all over the place to ride in front of 1000 people, in football terms a non league crowd level. Do they fly strikers in?

  22. Because David Rowe has done a damn good job for Eurosport for the last few years and doesn't deserve to be dumped just because the 'usual suspects' are at a loose end.

  23. I wouldn't blame Lambert not riding over here. It just illustrates how far our position in the sport has dropped. We can no longer compete with those countries abroad, be it the tracks, the competition, nor the rewards. This is not a moan, merely a reality check.... i will look forward to seeing Robert on the telly, competing with the best and feel quietly confident he'll continue with his amazing progress. When he wins that first World title, I hope he will come back to Lynn just to show his and our appreciations. I sure the place would be packed...

  24. Hope this helps, the stuff in question ^^ (engine pic won't rotate 90 degrees). I have no connection with the sale or the seller BTW, but Topcat is a good friend of mine & sent me the pics out of interest....
