Belle Vue - 10th October I bought two tickets for this meeting the minute I heard they were on sale. Strangely only back straight tickets were avialable online but undetered I went ahead. A few days later I spotted postings on here indicating that granstand seats were avialable. I wrote (nicely) to BV asking for an explanation and enquiring if it were possible to exchange my tickets. This was more in hope than expectation. Well ye of little faith Fd. The nice folks from up north invited me to ring and they would see what could be done. I duly rang this morning and a very pleasant lady cancelled my original purchase, helped me select two very good replacements and chatted for a few minutes about the difficulties of running meetings and the prospects for the SON meeting (nothing new to report, I'm afraid). I promised to publicly acknowledge BV's assistance in this matter and so that's what I'm doing. Thank you for your gracious treatment of my request for help.4 points

I think he covered this on the speedway tavern, that the journey (without delays) was not possible. I doubt very much he is earning anything out there as well. Whilst pay per point will be higher, he and his mechanic (his dad) have had to move to a country they don't speak the language and start from scratch. And I bet whilst they are having to fund this investment in Anders long term career, the bills back home in the UK haven't stopped. In his kent days I spent a lot of time watching Anders and Del, and there isn't many harder working duos out there. And the GB recognition meant so much to anders and his family. So I bet he was as gutted or disappointed as anyone else that he could nt ride. I may be biased but I feel what Anders has done is what many young brits have needed to do in the past. I cant help think that so many aussies are ahead of our brits because they have to leave home and then its very much sink or swim. OK the distance is not so great but the jump Anders has made in many ways is bigger. The aussies have the instant advantage when they reach the UK that they speak the lingo. I dare say when anders arrived he didn't even know how to order dinner!.4 points

I've no clue what the Polish commentator is saying but he is brilliant. The excitement in his voice makes me laugh every race. Think he might explode if we get another couple of close heats.3 points

Never say never as the guy running Northside has some great ideas and even more ambition (and all the shale off DP) it wouldn't take much to lay a another track at the back of the training track and run a National League team... Regards THJ2 points

So It is good then that you have such folk interested in keeping speedway alive and kicking over on the East coast.(I've seen pics on Facebook) However despite your nice closing comments THJ I just can't see us over here in the West ever again having the need for such similar input. You say you had a peek at Northside....well apart from it being a laal track, of the right shape, nothing else inspires my hopes of a Comets revival right there....it's too small and spartan. Anyway good luck to the Diamonds from 2021 onwards......I've enjoyed very many visits to Brough to support Comets and always found the fans friendly....2 points

Hello Singy me old pal... how you doing in these Covid impacted times... hope you are well and all the family are good too... now Shielding has been lifted I hope your not doing to much socialising as it's still not fully safe yet... but we will get there. On your question and mine for that matter on the NSSG... well I doubt I will get an answer on here however after doing some digging I found out the craic... The NSSG is run by a young lady and I will withhold her name to be poite and the handle NSSG refers "I believe" to the group she updates on Facebook that has over 1500 followers... and where she keeps the more modern "Facebook set" up to date with the latest happenings at the club... Apparently she does a lot of hard work promoting the club on Facebook and other forms of electronic media and works on the commercial interests of the club... so kudos there on what she is trying to do as it's a thankless task... So the group is an electronic one rather than a physical one run like a fan club... and I will stand corrected if I am wrong... There were one or two other things raised re: the NSSG... but out of deference I will keep my own council on those... It may be more helpful if she chose a different name or used a different non de plume on the Forum as it can get confusing and some comments can be misconstrued in there context in; or to; a response... (if that makes sense) Never mind a might start me own supporters trust over here... have to see what happens or what the interest is like... but I won't be on that Facebook thing any time soon... Finally I definitely miss my Saturday nights at Derwent Park.. an I even had a "toby" around Northside on Saturday just to see what it was lookin like but there was nothing on unfortunately and the place was locked up... Never mind singy one day maybe and hopefully soon we might see a Comet fly high again... Regards THJ2 points

During lockdown I managed to find quite a bit of speedway from the 70s and 80s on you tube. As I was too young to remember those days I have been massively suprised how big the sport was. Lots of speedway on world of sport but was was suprised to find team racing was also featured I found Ipswich v Cradley heath highlights. Bruce Penhall holding out for a new contract and being offered 30k a year extra, Kenny Carter on tvam. The way speedway and its riders were portrayed on mainstream tv it seem like they were house hold names. It's even more sad to see where this sport is today and how far it's fallen. I wonder if anyone involved in the sport looks at it now and thinks 'we f:%ked it right up'1 point

Was at that meeting. Carter broke the track record in his first ride, which didn't sit well with the crowd. Morton came out the next ride and was obviously going for the record and the crowd really got behind him, though he was ahead by a mile. When it was announced that he'd smashed Carter's record the noise was tremendous. And if it needs saying, what a great track Hyde Road was.1 point

Just shows why two commentators are better than one. Able to bounce of each other. Haven’t much of a clue what they are saying other than helmet colours, names and positions, but the banter works very well and improves the product.1 point

Not his reputation as a real racer on track. The other stuff did of course affedt him but "they "were out to nail him and he stepped out of line and gave "them" a prtfect target to shoot down. Still my Best Ever ( after Ove Fundin ).1 point

I most certainly can- after 20 heats all the riders are ranked in order from 1 to 16. These are determined by points scored. If scores are level it goes to 1st, 2nd 3rds and 4ths( a last beats an exclusion or ef) If they can`t be split by this method it goes to who beat who. this method is also used to give the points in the semi`s 3rds and 4ths- the highest ranking rider after heat 20 gets the point more- ie 12 against 11 for 3rds and 10 against 9 for 4ths. As far as Zagar and Vaculik - they had same scoring record so Zagar beating Vaculik in heat 16 split them.1 point

I think you'll find they're not interested in listening to any ideas other than their own. If I were you I wouldn't waste my time and just choose another sport to follow1 point

The poles do so much racing at junior level, but i bet they would quite happily host a British under 21 touring party. Surely worth the BSPA asking the question, with so many riders sat on thier arses.1 point
