Thanks very much for sharing. Lovely bit of film. There was a picture of Meadowbank packed to the rafters with the towering tenements in the background in the Speedway Star a few months ago too. Glorious image.2 points

Heat 12 the only heat of note. Zmarzlik failed to gate and couldn’t get past mobile chicane Bjerre. I moan because it’s crap. No one should just accept racing like this as acceptable. Rubbish entertainment. I watch because I am a speedway fan and want the racing to be good.2 points

Not many riders have come the qualifiers as often as him,it’s a difficult route normally ,proving he is still a top 16 Rider.Andy Smith was pretty good at sneaking in if I remember correctly.2 points

i understand the Njl run 500s and 125s in same meeting having been part of it for the last 4 seasons and their totals are added together to gain a result . however my point was the juniors in this meeting which is a 19 heat format and not 6 like Njl meetings count towards the whole meeting total. i dont believe there was a disagreement i was just searching for the facts to educate myself. most people who have a healthy knowledge of junior speedway know me and i can confirm i wasnt one of the parents asked if we had a 5001 point

Wasn't there a suggestion they would have to ride home matches in Poland?1 point

That is 6 names not 5. I'm beginning to think no one understands a simple question1 point

If renovation hasn't been done on the toilets you will have to hold your breath as usual1 point

Whilst you two have your disagreements , the current regulations do allow for mixed cubic capacity teams although not in the same races. The current Northern Junior league runs separate classes in the same team and in previous years at amateur level, different classes have competed within the same team, so it is not a new idea, although one I believe should be encouraged to give clubs incentive to find new youngsters to bring into the sport.1 point

And we keep getting told by all and sundry that it's the best league in the world, it maybe the strongest league in the world in terms of competitors but from what I have seen this season it is by no means the best. Rybnik for one wouldn't have been allowed to participate in a "best league in the world", the tracks have been poorly prepared, often with watering required after the first heat, slick with little dirt, the heat format is all over the place, there's no sign of any team riding... yet the fans lap it up, personally I just can't understand it. I will continue to watch it though as there's nothing else for me to watch, If I'd had Speedway to attend in this country I would have cancelled my subscription after the first couple of months1 point

Spot on as his training days are a great experience for up & coming riders and old hands aswell1 point

I like the idea of Wayne riding he is and has been a major influence on a lot of the riders in both teams with many having started under his guidance on Scunthorpe’s mini track1 point

Too be honest, I think it's great to see Mr C in the side some would argue there wouldn't be a Scunthorpe Speedway without the likes of Wayne Carter great chance and occasion to give him one last meeting.1 point

Renovation and upgrade work, possibly (but do not hold your breath) including the long awaiting improvements of the toilets. I stopped by there at the start of the summer and it looked like there was some sort of work taking place as the main gates were unlocked and there were a lot of vehicles there. In terms of speedway the club have said that they wouldn't be able to run meetings at any level until September at least due to the works on the stadium, without elaborating further. It seems like Dugard and Co may be taking the enforced break as an opportunity to carry out some much needed work, but of course the speedway and the stadium are separate concerns these days so there is not a whole lot of information forthcoming.1 point

Poole is still Matt's tenure even though he's now based in France. He still owns the club, has strong political and business allies locally, is adamant that speedway will continue at Poole Stadium in 2021 and will be doing his utmost to retain speedway in Poole for the longer term.1 point

There will be some changes for Piraterna since both Thomas Jørgensen & Tim Sørensen (new signings) will ride tomorrow.1 point

Nooo Not KK again.... isnt this the same guy that went about 4 gp's without even picking up a point.... Years ago was a good rider but always temperamental and very inconsistent. I was worried before the meeting this was a poor challenge and now confirmed as none of the qualifiers will finish in next years top 101 point

As a West Ham fan, my main memory of Coventry is of going there in 1971 to meet my Coventry penfriend, Pat. She was with a couple of her friends and I was with one of mine, and we had a nice evening. I'm ashamed to this day that I didn't write to her again. She must have thought it was because I'd met her, and it wasn't! So if you see this Pat - I'm sorry!1 point

A bit late in the day but I have just watched the youth championship held at Scunthorpe and those who bemoan the quality of racing at this level should take a look again. Heat 6 is just one example. Raw talent reminiscent of speedway in the late sixties and early seventies when grass track riders gave speedway a go. In those days it would throw up some riders who would excite and my most memorable was at Rayleigh when Ivan Miller beat Boston's Arthur Price. What a race for those who were in the stadium on that bank holiday Monday These young lads today deserve every speedway fans support. They get out on track and give it a go and the gutsy performances deserve so much more and not the criticism that seems to be par for the course. Speedway purists will understand, those who believe the current league set up is the be all and end all a requires the skills of Doyley or similar to make the sport entertaining are deluded. If only tracks like my local, Ipswich , would put on a few of these amateur meetings I am sure the ‘anoraks’ of the sport would support the meetings and many would be happy to pay £10 to watch these lads entertain. To those at grass roots level you are appreciated.1 point

Be good if Premier would put their hands in their pocket and employ both Alex and Dave Goddard to work together. Better to have two commentators. Holder really doing a fine job so far.1 point

isnt the idea of any speedway meeting to make money? where the hell did this anti making money thing come from? that how life works!1 point

Yes, regardless of your own club allegiance it would be great to see a famous Speedway name return. The sport needs more Clubs and I am sure this would be a tremendous boost. Regardless of the state of Brandon when it re-opens I am sure most fans will be just happy to see the return the track-action. Fingers crossed for a positive outcome.1 point

All 3 of my local tracks have been defunct for a spell after the initial first time ever of opening up! Ipswich had a chequered, struggling history in the 60's and it looked like Foxhall was lost completely to speedway in the late 60's when the original track was tarmaced for car racing. In 1969, John Berry and Joe Thurley as legend says, climbed the perimeter fence, surveyed the vast Foxhall arena and came up with the idea of carving a new track inside! - Since 1969 Ipswich speedway have been ever presents in League speedway and can probably claim to be one of the most stable tracks still operating! King's Lynn shut in 1996 while major improvements were made to what was at the time a crumbling stadium that had been possibly earmarked for the site of another warehouse. Nowadays the Norfolk arena has been improved with decent facilities and is a popular venue for speedway and stock cars. Mildenhall first shut in 1989, remerging in the 2nd half of 1991 with a new track and concrete terracing on the 1st and 2nd bends. A mid season 2nd Division closure followed in 1992 before a successful 3rd Division revival began in 1994. Another mid season closure occurred in 2010 but since then they have been a well supported Sunday afternoon speedway outfit. Other places like Wolves, Berwick, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Sheffield, Birmingham, Poole, Plymouth, Scunthorpe, Leicester and others have reopened at either their former venues or new venues after spells of no inactivity! So to answer your question Yes it does happen but obviously its hard to restart again especially in modern times with modest crowds and huge construction and land expenses. Lets hope that places like Coventry, Oxford, Bradford, Rye House, Cradley, Southampton, Norwich, Arena Essex, Stoke, Buxton, Newport, Exeter, Bristol, Workington, Hull and others can at some point stage speedway again!1 point

I doubt this is what you mean but GWR have a closed to the public event on 30th August. No prize money paid out., but £40 entry for solos, £50 for chairs. Credit the club for a very well considered and presented Covid19 risk assessment which incudes for only riders and officials to be given entry. Sensibly they are asking for vans to be opened for inspection to ensure no unauthorised bodies get in. Frittenden have posted that (my interpretation) subject to the clowns in Downing Street getting their act together they could still stage a couple of events in September/October. I suppose they have the field and essential contacts in place (and riders looking for a race) to arrange at short notice but need the official go ahead. As an example of the battle they will face a pre season football friendly in south east London tonight was only allowed to go ahead on the basis that no spectators could watch despite it being held on an open field with standing around all 4 sides . In order to access the social club on the same ground you have to walk past one end of the pitch and it has an outside patio where you can see the game from, sitting with other people. Under current government instructions 150 were legally allowed to drink inside the clubhouse at the same time that none were allowed to stand outside to watch the match. In the words of the great Dizzee Racal, "Bonkers".1 point

It’s a shame one team doesn’t change to Saturday night to allow for visiting teams to do northern tours and halve the travelling. always used to be the highlight of the seasons for travelling fans. I’d imagine more visiting fans too as better value for a weekend away1 point
