100%. And as a watcher of Polish Speedway over the past few years, it gets even better when the crowds are filling the stadiums to capacity.. The racing seems to take on even more of an edge when tens of thousands of fans are either screaming out in adulation, or disgust at their riders.. This year there has been some cracking racing, and I think some fans just equate passing in races as a benchmark to their standard.. In Poland you seldom get one rider miles in front of everyone else given there is usually two decent world level heat leaders in most races, and many of the races have two seperate battles for 1st and 2nd and then 3rd and 4th, given the close nature of the standards of the riders.. You can have some great racing with no passing at all, eg cant remember which race the other day, but it ended 5-1 to Czestowocha but it looked like synchronised speedway with the Wroclaw riders riding five yards behind for virtually the whole of the race, trying to find a way through.. (Might have been Woffy and Chugunov?) The whole experience from the mechanics in club colours, the fans in club colour T shirts, through to the 2 mins use and start marshall/ref communication to align the riders straight and right up to the tapes, and then the racing itself, is truly light years ahead of what we have over here.. And that's no disrespect to British Speedway as that it the way it should be with the millions of PLN it attracts.. But to think what we see in the UK is better, I do have to say is pushing the boundaries of reality a little bit far..5 points

Good news for Premier Sport subscribers,as round 7 July 24th/26th they are scheduled to show all 4 matches live including what will certainly be the Sunday 2nd match Czestochowa v Leszno.3 points

The starting procedure in Poland is streets ahead of UK, think a 2 min clock Should be made compulsory in UK for starters. The riders don’t mess the Start Marshal about in Poland and it all runs fairly smoothly.3 points

The Madsen / Chugunov race has been put on Facebook in a couple of places and you’ve got people moaning about the track and saying they’ve seen better racing at Lakeside I honestly think some British fans just aren’t prepared to enjoy Polish speedway which is a pity for them. It’s not been brilliant but there has been the odd superb race and enough good ones to make it worth watching.3 points

MOST likely there will be eight SGPs this year, maybe all double-headers (over two nights). Prague still a possibility.2 points

Have you any idea how much a 2 minute clock costs? Maybe they could do like they did with the track covers and ferry it about between clubs... come to think of it, whatever happened to the track covers? Maybe it's with Colin Meredith's elastic band starting gate mechanism replacement kit2 points

I have, also, been viewing quite a few rewind meetings & races on YouTube & there has been a few when even the riders have come to the tapes, the riders do their gardening then adjust the clutch lever. The video clip has sometimes run to 1.20 - 1.30 minutes. In the 10 or 12 meetings that Poland have had, how many heats have had restarts because of movement or tape infringements? Probably less than we have in ONE meeting!2 points

Looks like a fantastic line up assembled... The British lads have got to start getting involved in this. . It's clearly a huge bridge to use from the level of domestic racing to the GP's given the amount of truly World Class riders who take part in it.. You can see without any doubt how Robert Lambert has benefited from doing this series... Rubbing shoulders in the pits, and observing some of the very best, must help you along massively, as only then can you realise what it has taken for them to get to the top.. And what you must do to achieve the same.. No point beating 2nd Division riders in the UK, week in week out, if you have any serious ambitions to become a global star. .2 points

It was also mentioned on this thread how it clearly helps to reduce first bend incidents too, by having all riders leaving the tapes in an arrow straight line... Rather than the all four firing off in different directions like we can get over here.. It sometimes resembles the start of Wacky Races... The ref and marshall are linked up too, so should a rider roll back when the marshall's back is turned when he moves on to another rider, or even if he goes straight into 'under starters orders' mode, the ref will let him know if anyone has moved and he goes back and sorts them out again... With some conviction and authority.. Be ready to race when the 2 mins clock expires following the marshall's instructions.. Or you are out... So simple and yet so effective... And so professional....2 points

It's inaccurate posts like this, in the wake of deliberately vague pronouncements from this government, that cause uncertainty, leading in part to people spreading the virus. Social distancing has not been reduced. It is still 2m. If 2m is not feasible (for instance in places with limited space such as some shops) it can be reduced to no less than 1m. There is no reason for it to be less than 2m for spectators in a sports stadium.1 point

Changing the subject. You took a mate to North Shields quay for fish and chips to Oceans but it changed hands September 2019 and is now called The Plaice but best to avoid.1 point

I always thought I had a load of unnecessary old rubbish in the memory bank, but I think your amount is astonishing, well done . PS, got two boys and a daughter, haven't seen her for a few years, better check the attic! ( Only joking, she's lovely and a speedway fan along with her brothers)1 point

Well if you haven't noticed it does come around every year and its only another 178 days before Santa comes down your chimney Unless you have been naughty gazzac then all you will get is a lump of coal... "Buddy the Elf" doesn't have a look in when it comes to Crimbo with THJ... I love it... I wish it could be Christmas every day... as Roy Wood once sang... Are you ready gazzac? (Yeah) When the snowman brings the snow Well he just might like to know He's put a great big smile on somebody's face If you jump into your bed Quickly cover up your head Don't you lock the doors You know that sweet Santa Clause is on the way Oh well I wish it could be Christmas everyday When the kids start singing and the band begins to play Oh I wish it could be Christmas everyday Let the bells ring out for Christmas When we're skating in the park If the snow cloud makes it dark Then your rosy cheeks are gonna light my merry way Now the frosty paws appear And they've frozen up my ear So we'll lie by the fire Till the sleet simply knocks 'em all the way Well I wish it could be Christmas everyday When the kids start singing and the band begins to play Oh I wish it could be Christmas every day So let the bells ring out for Christmas When the snow man brings the snow (when the snowman brings the snow) Well he just might like to know (he just might like to know) He's put a great big smile on somebody's face So if Santa brings that sleigh (Santa brings that sleigh) All along the milky way (along the milky way) I'll sign my name on the rooftop in the snow Then he may decide to stay Well I wish it could be Christmas everyday When the kids start singing and the band begins to play Oh I wish it could be Christmas everyday So let the bells ring out for Christmas Under your arms, check it! Oh well I wish it could be Christmas everyday When the kids start singing and the band begins to play Oh I wish it could be Christmas everyday Let the bells ring out for Christmas Why don't you give your love for Christmas Good old Crimbo you just cant beat it.... Its BRILLIANT... Regards THJ1 point

Only racing I can see this year are challenge type matches with a home and away for an aggregate win. Won't be like a league, but having had no matches all year , hopefully would be well enough supported over the last few couple of months of the season.1 point

Many do seem to do it 'globally' for a lot of years don't they? Seems a long time to do something (especially something as dangerous as speedway), if all you will do is end up with not very much.. Especially as so many ride from being a teenager to mid to late 30's, and some even longer.. That's a lot of years to keep not making any money.. In another excellent Speedway Star, the current edition has an interview with true Legend, Ove Fundin, who is truly amazed in quoting an interview which appeared in a Swedish speedway magazine with a rider called Philip Hellstrom Bangs (yes THE Philip Hellstrom Bangs), a 17 year old kid making his first tentative steps into the sport.. He has openly said he has spent the Swedish equivalent of £130,000 on "three complete bikes, six engines, a van and 'all the extras', including a full time mechanic" (ex rider Robert Fils)... "That's what it has to be if you want to go anywhere" was a quote.. How much will he want per point? The problem of course is how this hyper inflates costs for others who may see that really is the only way to go. . All running to stand still, all paying out fortunes, and all risking their necks to take a slice of an ever diminishing pie.... Absolute crackers...1 point

JUST speculating ...if the Polish authorities increase crowd capacity to 50% and Wroclaw stage a SGP double-header they could offer an alternative to all those who have purchased tickets.1 point

Certain tracks I have visited don’t have 2min.Clock and certainly no Radio Link between Start Marshall and Ref.Im a saying it should be made compulsory.1 point

It makes it harder to see any chance of League Speedway starting in August as they have been positively and optimistically talking up. which is a shame. Hopefully everyone in Leicester will stay safe and the Track will be able to start practice sessions by the end of July or early August.1 point

I've been watching the "rewind" meetings on the British Speedway YouTube channel... I thought it was quite comical watching last night's Coventry vs King's Lynn match from 2011 with riders seemingly attached with invisible elastic to the tapes as they kept rolling backwards and forwards to and from the tapes... And the week before Danny King quite clearly exceeded the 2 minutes time allowance before the first running of the final... Like in society at the moment once you let these little things go anarchy soon prevails1 point

Did a sterling service at many tracks for a lot of years. One of his great feats was building Romfords track from scratch in a couple of weeks! He was still helping out in the late 90's when Dingle Brown ran Mildenhall! He must surely have been in his 90's when he passed away?1 point

If the Govt are serious about this they will prevent Leicester City playing (@ the Kingpower as a minimum). If they don't do that then I would think it ok for Speedway practices to continue. (I also think that if they allow football to continue it gives anyone in Leicester who chooses to ignore the new restrictions 'an excuse')1 point

Agreed things seem to be very slow but Swindon Promoters should stick at it same as Belle Vue did, I think it took them about 10 or 11 years and look what they have achieved so it can be done.1 point

And from what I saw yesterday Drabik and Janowski had as much straight line speed as Madsen. There does appear to be a 'Karlsson corridor' at Czestowocha, coming out of the second turn and he seems to use it better than anyone.. Down, it seems to me, to the way he can ride the whole bend tighter than other riders, at a speed similar to his opponents who are using the wider arc nearer the fence... He then manages to get his wheels in line without locking up, and scrubbing speed off, even on such a tight line.. And he does this at most tracks.. He isn't going faster (sideways) than his opponents I would suggest, but he is just taking the shortest route, and gets the rewards exiting the bends, which at World level racing pace takes some doing..1 point

Trouble is the UK don’t, I have no idea of the other leagues in Sweden and Denmark. If everyone got excluded for any movement before the tapes going up it would stop it everywhere.1 point
-
Easy to even up gates by letting riders move at the start. As long as they don't touch the tapes i'd let them move. No false starts either.1 point

If his bikes are checked at every GP's and in the League what can be your suspicion ? Some riders are better than others, they have better bike control.1 point

The professional approach to running speedway coupled with the status that the sport holds in Poland means its light years ahead of the UK. It also kind of proves that the way the sport is run and portrayed is more important than the actual racing. The people in charge could see the potential the sport had and are forward thinking and have successfully built on the large attendance figures from the communist era. Sadly with the exception of one or two promotions the UK weren't looking forward to build on the standing the sport had here in the 70s and early 80s. To coin an old game show catch phrase 'look at what you could have one'1 point

IMO riders are already screwing speedway all over the world . sure , the fancy parts they use all cost more than the factory parts .i do believe that the bikes dont run great when they come out of the factory . riders have had a good time over the last few decades regarding points money and signing on fees . now its time to give something back to all tracks that have given them a great life over their time in this great sport . thats the way i see it , like it or not .1 point

Probably due to the choice of scunthorpe being the only other option available in the current situation , and as far as I know Leicester has been available for hire seven days a week for quite a few years now. Obviously not available if any pre arranged event has filled the date already.1 point
