  5. A bit strange.. Seems home and back straight in use.. Creates atmosphere I suppose.. And maybe spreads a virus or two.. Great opening lap in heat five.. Cant beat Polish speedway for commitment.. Proper 'everything depends on this' team sport..

  7. Echo those thoughts THJ. Late 70s, early 80s, Brough was a quality venue, from a spectator viewpoint. Good for food and drink as you have said and very comfortable for viewing. Now, a lack of investment is showing. When I was there for the KO Cup Final, it looked rough around the edges and a bit worn and second hand to be honest. Nothing like in its halcyon days. So sad.

  9. Do you mean they've changed the track layout, I have fond memories of the Abbey Stadium-first visited in 1965, last visited in 1972. I used to get there by driving along the M4 and turning off to Acton Turville and then going across lovely country-via Minety (where Mike Keen lived) Malmesbury, Cricklade ( maybe not necessarily in that order)-last time I was over tried to duplicate the journey but the roads had changed and got lost despite helpful instructions from people I asked. One year stayed at the Blunsdon House Hotel-think it may now be a Best Western . Was there (or still is ) a pub called the "Cold Harbour". Think it is too bad how many of the British pubs have closed. We have pubs in the Toronto area that are more British than the British ones-one near me called "The Owl" where I sometimes go and watch English football.

  10. I used to enjoy my trips to Reading , such a shame Reading, Exeter, Trelawny, Newport , Oxford all gone now.

  11. You only have to visit a British GP to see that a lot of Poles have little consideration for others

  12. You would think that the likes of Cook and Wright must be worth a go? When you get past the very top riders and get into the Lindback/Batchelor/Kurtz etc level type of standard then there are many riders who are much of muchness.. Maybe a hungry newbie would be better than a 'been there and failed' rider of a similar talent?

  13. Nasty ending, which was a pity, but of the matches so far that's been the best racing. I thought the track shape probably helped, not quite as round-and-flat-out as the other Polish tracks they've shown. Dare I say, ever so slightly more technical?

  15. Sad to see the ambulance on the track. Hope Lebedevs is ok.. However, it shouldn't take away from that bend from Lambert.. Truly World Class and not too many could have controlled the bike like he did in the deep stuff.. Not his fault what happend afterwards by any stretch..
    1 point
  16. Ouch.. To be fair to Lambert he had to get past him as Lebedevs was all over the place.. And he was so much quicker..

  17. What a ride from Buzz, still one of the most spectacular riders to watch. Would love him at Belle Vue, worth the admission alone to watch him when he’s in the mood like tonight.

  20. Just watched heat 15 of the Swindon / Rebels challenge from 2012. Darcy was playing with Andersen, how old was he ? , 20 or something. What a talent , what a loss to speedway. Stay strong Darcy you were something else mate.

  21. They certainly let you know where you stand if you run a last place(in the pits)

  23. Dont mess about do they? Batch. Last then replaced.. No hiding place/job for the season over there in Poland.. Dont cut it and you are out.. Must have a positive impact mentally to those young Poles who come through the system.. Truly survival of the fittest... Meaning as they progress they truly know what pressure is.. Great to see Robert Lambert more than holding his own in World Class company in the last two meetings.. Will do him a world of good testing himself and proving himself worthy of the chance..

  24. No he`s there for a while- the only matches he can`t be considered for are against his parent club Gorzow.

  26. Madsen has to be one of the most improved riders in the World over the last couple of seasons.Like you say he has some superb passes coming out the turns. He won’t be far away GP wise on what we are seeing.
    1 point
  27. Madsen does always seem to have the happy knack of getting lots of grip coming out of a turn when riding the kerb, even though it is invariably slick down there later in the meeting.. Even though some rides ride what they perceive to be the wider, faster line he can still pass under them... A rider you never feel you can relax if behind you I would suggest... And a rider good to watch from an entertainment point of view too.. Maybe this will be his year in the GP..?

  28. The seeds of Reading's demise were sown before BSI got involved, by the previous promoters not fulfilling terms of the lease for whatever reason. Maybe the money was just never there, but I think Reading was ultimately doomed anyway once the location and its surrounds was earmarked for re-development - inevitable in a growing Thames Corridor town. Even a long lease wouldn't have protected it, although might have been a bit of leverage for finding an alternative site and funding a new stadium. Didn't think the Rubbish Tip was too bad in the 1980s and the site had a lot of potential. I quite liked going there, but it did get rundown towards the end and the crowds seemed to be woeful much of the time.

  29. Madsen certainly does not flatter to deceive,I like Emil but he certainly has not fulfilled his potential yet more than the riders you mention. Talk sense.

  30. Sayfudtinov may not be the World Champion, but he's the best rider in the world. I think Leszno will win again, Emil seems to step up in big matches. Doyle, Lindgren and Madsen flatter to decieve when the going gets tough.

  31. Honestly I can remember a big refurbishment late 60s early 70s two stands... parking both sides of the stadium... fantastic facilities for food and drink... healthy four figure speedway crowds and the same for the Greyhound racing 14 to 16 bookies for the dogs with tic tac men both sides flashing the odds for the dogs across the track... a massive tote board that we used to stand under on bends 3 and 4 until one wet Monday night and I went home with my good clobber caked (probably my school gear) with wet shale and got a clip round the lug for coming home in such a mess... which resulted in me moving round to the starting tapes as you didn't want a second right hook of my old peg that's for sure... what I would give for a clip round the ear off the old girl now... miss her to bits... Happy days... Regards THJ Place is looking tired now though... not unlike many stadia around today...

  33. Clarification re the fliers last night: Boss of referees, Leszek Demski clarified after the 1st round that riders may take the risk and if they get a perfect start (previously seen as a flyer) it is now not to be ruled as a false start. It's still forbidden to move before the tapes rise, but if the rider times it to perfection, it's not to be penalised. These are the rules from now, hence why some of you thought riders were getting fliers.

  35. You can say that again. I know there were reasons it was chosen but wtf were they thinking?
    1 point
  36. Not if they got any sense, keeping gleb at reserve makes them stronger, they can put any pole in top 5 and not give him a ride as they did a couple of years ago with the pole who did half a season for belle vue Damian drodz, He turned up in the top 5 everywhere for Wroclaw but never got a ride

  37. The land was sold by the council to the owners of Green Park, which occupies the large office developments adjacent to J11 of M4. I believe the plan was to develop the land into stage 3 of the Green Park development. This never happened due to the recession of 2008 and is highly unlikely to happen anytime soon. I was waiting for someone to blame BSI for the closure, they actually ensured we had speedway 2006-2008 because at the end of 2005 the track and related speedway infrastructure would not have been able to continue in its current guise. Stadia UK acquired the lease from Pat Bliss and Martyn Dore in 2001 but failed to secure the long term future of the stadium with the council except a couple of short term extensions to an expiring lease on the pretence they would develop a new stadium on land allocated to them just a Mile up the road! Like every other Stadia UK project that failed miserably and the rest is history. So unless a multi millionaire speedway fan fancies buying the old site back from Green Park owners and convincing authorities around developing site for leisure then sport is gone forever in the town.

  38. How having 3/5/6 rounds in Poland have any less integrity than a one off World Final?

  40. It attracts a young crowd. Just as the big meetings in Denmark do. We even league meetings attract a fairly diverse crowd, but the big meetings really bring out the young have a few bevvy crowd, willing to pay out for food and drink. Totally different to the UK crowds in general. Just that is was reading one of those Jeff Scott fanzine style article a couple of days back. One that he wrote for the Irish Times at the end of last year.....

  41. On the other hand maybe upping the price to make it seem more exclusive and maybe get rid of a lot of the older fans to bring in a fresh young look and make the sport more fashionable is the answer ? Trying to keep the old people happy doesn't seem to have worked. And look at the crowds in Poland . Despite the fallacy often bandied about, the sport isn't cheap there and the crowd isn't full of old people with blankets and flasks. It is young and fashionable. But you have to get out and market it to the young and there isn't really anyone in the sport capable of pulling it off. Just a thought though...... The number one reason businesses fail is, simply, their prices are too low. They don’t sell their products at prices high enough, then they operate on margins so small they are unable to expand There is no company that can’t increase prices if they understand a few simple tips It is a well known and successful market strategy

  42. As they showed yesterday`s match on Freesports they have switched the Leszno v Lublin match at 5pm on Friday to Premier Sport 2 instead of the planned Freesports. Edit to be fair they do have the final of the Cricket on Freesports until 6pm
