  1. Only in London. Outside London, different Councils have different rules. It depends what Cheshire's rules are.

  2. I'm missing the social side of the sport and the days out. Good racing is a bonus for me these days.

  4. I am missing it YES Some of the Polish stuff is OK, most of it is poor. There is no substitute for live Sport. Personally, I'd rather they start 2021 properly and safely than try to cobble together a crap 2020 6-8 week schedule that will do nothing for the Sport or Supporters and see most Teams lose money they don't have, in less than ideal Autumn weather. A few Open Meetings would be fine and best I am hoping for. Not sure what crowd figure Clubs could make pay? Brummies big problem though will be running against PL / CL Matches on TV on Wednesday nights if behind Closed Doors continues for soccer.

  5. Graham Drury in the Speedway Star (another excellent issue), talks about how he loved his time promoting in the NL, "riders just rode, no flights, accommodation, or transport requests". And when he rode 2nd Division how it was mainly 'part time' with riders having jobs, unlike today where so many have salary expectations to allow them to be 'pro' speedway riders in that league... So, we actually know 'what can work', and we also know 'what used to work' (pretty much the old 2nd Division NL).. Therefore that surely has to be the target to get back too? It does also make me wonder how much of my admission cost goes into the riders' own personal agendas through their salary from the clubs. By that I mean their own individual aspirations... I've said before, so much money comes into Speedway through fans attendance and individual sponsorship, yet so much of what gets paid out doesn't postively impact the domestic leagues in any way shape or form, but instead, goes to fund riders wanting to be full time pros and help support their own ambitions on the wider global individual stage.. No disrespect but any current GB rider winning the World Individual title won't put bums on seats over here every week. This was a pipe dream mantra from a long time ago, ie a belief a GB World Champ would be like finding The Holy Grail for the sport in the UK.. Havelock, Loram and Woffy (3 times) subsequently proved that wasn't correct. (Even when Tai rode here).. Therefore, the UK should just cut its cloth accordingly, putting the clubs first... In short, if charging £18 isn't bringing in enough punters through the doors as they tell you that you are too expensive, then listen to them and drop your prices... And if you can't drop your prices as you say your costs won't allow it, then reduce your costs so you can... I can guarantee that the many punters who no longer attend due to them not seeing £18-£20 as an acceptable or affordable price point, wont wake up one morning and suddenly then decide that it is and rock up in their droves.. And this absent, silent majority, are the ones that need 'listening' to..

  6. That's exactly what I mean! 446 Chester Road is the correct address, but it is listed as Woodford. However, I did find one reference to the postcode being "Bramhall South and Woodford". I also found an article stating that Ivan lived in Bramhall for a while, in addition to living in Chester Road.

  8. I stood there Steve, plenty of times. In the last few seasons i tended to stand at the top of the steps by the starting gate.

  9. According to everything I've seen, it is most certainly a done deal. However, according to the Stockport.gov website, it is not his house in Bramhall. As Steve said, it is the one in Chester Rd in Woodford. Looking at different articles, there are some discrepancies - certainly as far as timelines - but the Stockport website lists the exact address.

  10. Story was in the Speedway Star last week. House is in Bramhall, Cheshire under the control of Stockport Council and it says he moved there in 1971 and it was the family's last home before he left to go back initially to New Zealnd in 1987. Says he is the second rider to be honoured in such manner, after Jack Parker in Rugby. However, Harry Weslake also has a plaque in Exeter. The article, by Peter Oakes, says it's a done deal, quoting a council spokesman with a planned unveiling in 2021.

  11. I haven’t been to a meeting since Lakeside closed . With each passing week I miss it less. I was my intention to go to occasional meetings but there are such a bunch of cowboys in charge I don’t feel motivated and have found plenty of other things to do. There must be thousands like me. Great memories of the sport, but it’s difficult to avoid the conclusion that the great days are gone and won’t be back.

  12. Nice idea, the area has changed a fair bit since Ivan lived there, right opposite his house was British Aerospace Woodford, then known as AVRO, it's now a housing estate, although there is still a visitor centre/museum of sorts dedicated to the former industry giants. Ivan's old house is still there, so a plaque would have a home.

  14. Both tomorrow`s matches have been postponed because of the weather expected in Poland tomorrow. Leszno v Wroclaw is now on Monday at 7pm UK time and Grudziadz v Rybnik is now on Tuesday at 7pm UK time Both matches will be live on Eleven Sport 2 Not sure what Premier Sport will do as they seem to have a lot of Italian football on live.

  18. Moggo did that too at Poole to great applause - promptly followed by the Poole tractor driver doing the same, which brought the house down!!! Great fun.

  19. According to the Freesport schedule, they are showing live Polish speedway "Grudziadz v Rybnik" this Friday 19th June at 5pm UK time. I'm not sure if they have shown any matches before, or whether this will be a regular thing? I think Freesport, as the name suggests is available at no charge on most platforms? https://www.freesports.tv/tv-schedule.html

  22. Thank you EEF. My experience of Birmingham also tells me accuracy when dealing with officialdom is also vital. Wouldn't take anyone reading Mr Mccaffrey claims to discover 2 successfully run Clubs in South East in Kent and Sussex. O level geography tells me Kent and Sussex are actually in the South East too. North of London is the Home Counties. If Mr Mccaffrey wants any help he only has to ask someone like Brian Buck who would no doubt be able to show Mr Mccaffrey a few campaign skills and how a humble approach wins friends.

  23. Blimey..the rantings of a prima donna. Nobody so far as I can see has actually commented on your ideas to try to save Rye House. A fan from Birmingham simply pointed out that there are other tracks in the area, one operated by the man who introduced professional league racing to Rye House. Maybe Mr Mc Caffery should try to persuade him to join the campaign to get the Rockets back on track ?.

  24. The refs box had to be moved in line with the start to get FIM accreditation to run international events. This was done and then the old refs box became the home of T2TV when filming meetings I believe. Something tells me that the ref’s box was once again repositioned after the BMR takeover but my interest had waned by that time so I didn’t attend much and I can’t be 100% sure.

  25. Actually, that is not true. While I have never been a weekly visitor to Rye, I did go on odd occasions when there was a meeting that interested me. I remember that a new referees box was constructed more or less alongside the original one and it most certainly was opposite the starting line. I think the change came after a couple of top international meetings were staged, but I may be mistaken on that point. I'm pretty sure that when the new box was installed, the front part of the old box was taken down which gave the ref in the new box vision of the 1st bend. There was a lot of talk about it among fans at the time with opinions mostly in favour as I recall.

  28. I agree with this except that if you have riders chasing the ‘ holy grail’ spending thousands on equipment, it will not change. Why not have standard bikes and then those with the skill can hone their craft and they will be competitive and rise to the top. At the moment it is a case of who can throw the most dollar, pound, euro etc at equipment to simply buy a few seconds edge. That is not what the sport should be about. A level playing field with standard affordable equipment Hence a lower cost that may encourage younger riders might just allow a few newbies to think it is worth a go. As it stands, price wise it is an elitist sport for those with the best sponsors who have questionable skills and are generally the gate and go merchant whereas what it really needs is the rider who can control the machine, cope with track conditions and is in control. Few of today’s riders fall into the latter category. Get back to basics and the sport may have a chance. Again just an opinion but the reality Speedway U.K. is dire and someone needs to the balls to stop the rot. Those who moan that it is the promoter’s whose money is at risk and not those on this forum does not wash. If you are a business person get real. Piss or get off the pot. Stop whinging and if you are throwing money away then get out as you simply cannot make it pay. Riders, promoters and sponsors are so far apart it is never going to be a viable media spectacular.
