  1. It’s time they did - like most teams used to Saturday night is speedway night

  2. Really enjoyed the second meeting after the shambles from Rybnik. Good first effort from Gorzow without NKI against easily the strongest side again. When Zmarzlik gets going I think Gorzow will have a decent season. I thought Thomsen acquitted himself well and Wozniak as ever is a strong road block if he can gate. KK just same old frustrating KK. Leszno again going to be tough to beat. Emil and Piotr so strong with great backup (generally) from Kolodziej and then the bundles of improvement still to come from Kubera, Kurtz and Smektala. Personally don't mind there being no crowd as I'm only really interested in the quality of racing. Anyone saying this is on a similar level to Britain needs to give their head a considerable shake.

  4. Poland should be pleased with themselves. How can you blame them for looking after themselves. They lead the way on crowds, pay, TV coverage. Rather than be upset other countries should attept to match. Watch some Polish speedway its very good. Cutting your own nose off by missing out.

  5. Everyone apart from the rybnik reserves would walk into a championship side so bit of a silly comment.

  6. The backing Poland has is also a huge sway. I was watching a video last week, I think it was the PM or a significant political person who happens to be a huge speedway fan. All the local councils back it, they have great tv and other sponsorships. That they have started racing with empty stadiums tells you everything. If we did that here, it would implode. When you have a set of circumstances like that it’s so easy to build a successful business. Until local councils invest in speedway as a leisure business instead of approving stadium demolitions, then we will never have the chance to replicate what happens over there. And of course they won’t do that if there isn’t demand, and dwindling supporter numbers really does drive that, and that is where promoters can step in and start to change the demographic of supporter. If we had full stadiums, big sponsorship and great tv deals there is no way half of what happens today would be occurring. It happens because next to nobody cares. We haven’t recycled the supporter base and that is ultimately what will kill the sport here. Sometimes sports just fly in certain places. Football in this nation is huge, but conversely has nowhere near the following in Poland. It’s horses for courses and it would seem the UK at the moment doesn’t have a horse.

  12. In a way, it’s abit like doubling up. Makes perfect sense though and avoids the stupid situation you get in Britain where one rider is representing nearly every team in the league.

  15. No probs - we moved up to the top tier and in my opinion, especially the 2nd season we were there, it was the best season of speedway I’ve watched. We had such an exciting team with Doyle, Wright, Holder etc it was what I had come to expect from Somerset. I completely get the sums didn’t add up and they had to drop back down to make it viable but once you’ve been watching that for a few years, to drop back down, pay the same price and a few uninspiring teams in my view since, plus a change in circumstances in my current life just made it no longer value for money and viable for myself anyway. I get and understand the decision, but doesn’t mean I have to go along with it.

  16. Speedway in Britain doesn’t need any external help on that score.

  20. Presume these long gaps between races are to give the crowd time to get plenty of food and drink? Seriously though, Dave G is doing a very good job at keeping things flowing but he could do with a co commentator to fill in some of the 'dead air' by discussing the racing.. Scott Nicholls would be worth a seat next to him.. Edit: Two meters apart obviously....

  23. I recorded this afternoons match and just watched it back now. Sadly the first heat was missed and then because of the delays during the meeting, the recording cut off 4 heats from the end. A bit of a shame but have a word if you can

  32. Robert and Tai are levels and many levels at that above any other british rider. When it comes to speedway they dont play at it . Robert has stepped up every aspect of what it takes to succeed . I.e fitness ,equipment ,lifestyle and location. After a lets say indifferent season in 2019 he has studied what he needs to improve took advice and done it. I still believe Robert has the ability to be a top 8 regular in the gps.

  33. Sorry I forgot the Premiership is the top flight of speedway now, I was thinking of the Premier League which was the name of the 2nd Division until a few years ago. Your right and the reason that many teams would go to Saturday nights is cause that's the best night to attract a crowd which is why I think that night is the only viable chance for a reopened Bradford speedway to get break even plus crowds. Look at the woeful Tuesday night crowds in 1997 at Odsal, Rye House wouldn't of shut down had they been allowed to stay racing on Saturday nights and Leicester would still be in the top flight if they could of stayed on Saturdays in that league!

  37. This was the post made by his daughter on Facebook yesterday, so I assume he passed away on Friday He was a lovely bloke and came to Derwent Park to support the Comets in the last few seasons staying locally with his good friend Gordon Richardson Nikola Bardsley is with Wayne Jackson. 16 hrs · I feel like I am in a dream. Last night our amazing, one of a kind dad passed away. Taken far too young and far too suddenly. I am truly heartbroken. Rest in peace Dad, I love you. ❤️ Wayne Jackson

  38. It`s only come in this season because of the covid 19 situation.- teams are allowed to use 1 guest rider( from a lower league) to replace someone in the top 5( still must have 2 Poles in top 5) and one other guest can be used if a rider goes down with Covid infection.

  40. You're right about Handball and Volleyball Mike. The last time I was at Wroclaw coach station there were two huge posters on one of the walls. One was Maciej Janowski, but I didn't recognise the other. On asking someone they told me his name (must say I can't remember it) but I do remember being told he was a handball player and he was 'very famous'. And in a hotel I once stayed in Poznan, the foyer had photos of both the Poznan football team and the Poznan volleyball team. And Poznan has lots of interest in rowing with the Lake Malta complex which, I believe, has hosted World and European Rowing Championships.

  45. Haven't they got that roof on yet? I thought that was the reason why it closed... at least that was the story we were being fed at the time

  46. Rider safety comes first is a contradiction in itself ,if it came first then the sport would make riders use a more adaptable engine, the engine used today is power and nothing else, safety doesn’t even come into it ,speedway is dangerous, if you don’t like it don’t ride

  47. How many club commentators have the integrity to describe the home pair's attempt at a first bend as "An utter disgrace and they have got exactly what they deserve!=". My hat goes off for such honesty (and bravery).Pass on my appreciation :-D I'm loving these meetings from Armadale. I can now see what great racing it can provide.

  49. Honestly My Granddad used to work at and help run the Clarence Street Mission between the wars and he used to do the "Magic Lantern Show" would you believe... He was Shieldfield born and bread... He had a stable at Back Stephen Street behind the Cumberland Arms which took a direct hit the same night the Appollo got bombed... 100 Chickens in the yard and they couldn't find a feather... Small world... Regards THJ
