Honestly My Granddad used to work at and help run the Clarence Street Mission between the wars and he used to do the "Magic Lantern Show" would you believe... He was Shieldfield born and bread... He had a stable at Back Stephen Street behind the Cumberland Arms which took a direct hit the same night the Appollo got bombed... 100 Chickens in the yard and they couldn't find a feather... Small world... Regards THJ2 points

Top flight Speedway at Rye was always going to fail. The Saturday crowds would have tailed off once the novelty wore off, the fixed race nights were the death knell that accelerated things. Could BMR have stepped back to the second tier once fixed race nights were floated? Maybe. Did they know what they were doing? I doubt it. The way they built their teams was testament to what I always saw as their naivety when it came to running a speedway team. It appeared to me they wanted to run at the highest level even though it wasn’t sustainable. Speedway at Rye House was a big part of my life, I would never have met my best friend if it wasn’t for Rye House and I’d be sad if the door to Speedway was shut forever, however it looks increasingly likely. Someone could run the track and make it a sustainable enterprise in the second or third tier I’m sure but it would take deep pockets in the short term to do so and you’d be stupid to walk into speedway these days.2 points

"People of Great Brtain, I need to level with you with a very important message. Hull Needs Speedway." Not making light too much of a diffciult situation we find ourselves in, a situation which has impacted on my circle of family / friends, I've got bit of time on my hands like most folk, this was sent to me by a friend and I thought posters might enjoy it. Boris isn't wrong in this case . ....1 point

I cannot agree about the length of grading breaks- the Extraleague is different from the other Polish leagues and most matches are over within 1hr 45mins- some 1hr 30mins. The gap between 13 and 14 is slightly longer because the nominations for 14 and 15 have to be sorted.1 point

The meetings should be on Premier Player online too so I’ll choose to watch them when I want to and then fast forward through the gaps.1 point

Part of a google translation of an interview with Onesport`s Karol Lejman Did you consider the presence of supporters in the stands? In the initial concept, we didn't think about the fact that the fans would be able to enter the stadiums. All our puzzle and TSEC 2020 project has been tailored to start and give the opportunity to watch the speedway fans on television. In fact, this is still the case at the moment, because we still do not know when and how many fans we will be able to admit to the competition. Although this has been officially announced, there is no regulation yet. We don't know how it will look formally. I understand that you will fight for supporters in the stands? Sure. We are just waiting for a regulation. As soon as it appears, we are ready to act. From day to day we can start communication of individual rounds and sale of tickets. We are prepared to meet safety requirements and allow fans to enter the stadiums. Of course, we very much hope that from our first event, i.e. from July 4, it will be possible.1 point

APART from Cardiff, what events are BSI hanging onto money from? IMG, like so many companies (including Pinegen, publishers of SS) have furloughed much of their staff. IMG run about 700 events in a normal year. BSI boss Paul Bellamy along with a skeleton staff is working his socks off to ty and salvage some sort of calendar for both speedway and rallycross while frequently having to battle either the FIM or the FIA. It may seem easy but it certainly isn't and the safety of personnel required at events is paramount. Personally, I think there will be a number of SGPs later this year. Whether or not they are behind closed doors or with restricted attendance is still up in the air.1 point

Moving ahead four years, this is taken from the Fresno Bee on 13th June, 1937. There are a few new names to note here! Garland Johnson Heads First Entries For Airport Speedway Races "Broadsliding motorcycle riders will revive the spectacular sport in Fresno this week with an eighteen-event program marking the first of a Summer series of races at 8.15 p.m. Thursday on the one-fifth-mile oval of the Airport Speedway on Kearney Boulevard. A field of sixteen riders, all well known through regular appearances in Fresno during the past few years' events on the Fresno State College Stadium track, have been signed to compete in the opening program which is the first to be arranged in California this season. The riders have been idle since foreign competition lured many of the state's top-notchers out of the country and caused curtailment of local races through lack of local talent. Garland Johnson of Pasadena, always a favorite with Fresno motorbike fans; Lou Casazza of San Francisco, Bud Laughlin and Al Lauer of Sacramento and Field Helgason of Stockton heads the invading contingent for the initial race program. Others booked for the event are Otto Lauer, Ewald Schnitzer, Oliver Kalen and Harry Sands of Sacramento, Dick Wulzen of San Francisco, Ernie Criss of Oakland, Angel Alari of Los Angeles, Leonard Andres, Roy Andres and Alvin Thompson of Stockton, and Stanley Bennett of Rio Vista. Johnson and Schnitzer recently returned from Australia. A group of Fresnans headed by J.C. and William Burnett has received official sanction from the American Motorcycle Association at Columbus, Ohio, to promote local races this season. They plan a number of innovations to improve competitive conditions and make the programs more interesting to watch. Chief among the changes is the switch from the college stadium to Airport Speedway track. Observers believe the shortened straightaway and wider curves of the Italian Entertainment Park speedway will enable the riders to "slide" with greater freedom and obviate the necessity for slowing down for hazards such as the bottleneck curves on the stadium track. In England and Australia, where motorcycle races draw tremendous crowds, all tracks are either one-fifth or one-sixth mile affairs with practically no straightaways."1 point

Always remember when Eric wrote an article referring to Garry Middleton but spelling Garry with one 'r'. Garry was quick on the uptake and said to Eric just think of "Rolls Royce" when you refer to me again.1 point

I doubt there is big demand for speedway anywhere. If there was such big demand at Rye House where were they all on race nights & why did it close?1 point

I think it is easy to have a pot shot at Royal Mail. I am a postman and these are very difficult times for all key workers although nowhere near anybody who works for the NHS. A combination of sickness, those self isolating, new working practices and a vast increase in parcels due to online purchasing is bound to be challenging. I can only speak of our office where great efforts are being made on a daily basis but I suspect most posties are going the extra mile so to speak, only too pleased to do their bit to help keep the economy going to some extent. Incidentally, my Speedway Star stills turns up most Thursdays, and incidentally Royal Mail has just met their target of First Class Mail arriving the next day. So, while Speedway Star arriving late is not right, I think there is a bigger picture here that is more important. Additionally, there is also a Digital Subscription that may be more suitable.1 point

THINK the huge cost of staging a SGP in Warsaw, even with a full house, would be prohibitive0 points
