  1. I know more pressing matters at moment, but sent off £480 in January for season tickets. Had an acknowledgement but cheque not cashed till I believe March. I have doubts that we will see any Speedway this season , in fact the longer this goes on I fear we will not see Panthers again. Asked for money back and told request sent to accounts department, nothing heard since. If it helps Panthers I am willing to let things be , but I am not willing to help management who treat disabled fans in such a shameful and callous way.

  2. Glad to see this again. Not seen this version for years. It was as i remembered, including Kenny Carter's classic interview. ITV's coverage is quite blatantly "wink, wink, nudge, nudge". Who can ever remember the scrutineer and his nationality ever being mentioned as part of a World Final's coverage before or since? Is it some anti-German/anti-European bias on flagrant display or is it credible evidence of something more sinister? A bit of both I suspect. Certainly, Mike Lee's insight into the track being completely different in practice to the meeting was evidence of the world's best being kept in the dark to favour their man. And just the racing itself. Even without Dave Lanning's conspiracy laced commentary, Muller is operating at a different level to the rest.

  3. No question has to be 1965, getting to see all the Nat. League Teams and riders we'd read about coming to Somerton Park. Also seeing how the Prov. League stars did up against the "big boys"- not too badly-thinking of Charlie Monk, Eric Boocock, George Hunter etc. It was a wonderful year and I will never forget it. BTW Of the old Prov League tracks the highest placed finisher in the 1965 BL was Newport-won every meeting at home , plus two away and the never to be forgotten 2 point only loss to the Dons at Wimbledon. Jack Biggs unforgettable season as a Newport heat leader-surprised everybody.

  4. Just watch the Documentary, can’t really fault it.Very professional and gave an good insight into the sport and a season review of the Tigers. The promotion deserve a lot of praise on their efforts to raise the profile Speedway. PS. Still can’t figure out how Craig Cook got away without a ban after the Eastbourne fiasco.(must have had Alex Salmonds lawyer IMO)

  5. No, but in the days when Peterborough rode matches there they were easier to stomach and had a bit more bite than many Panthers performances thats for sure only thing the same they both were normally battered

  7. Most speedway fans have a favourite year depending on age and length of time watching our sport. Mine would be 1965. The British League was formed and we had a long league season. Many more teams to visit Custom House and many new riders to watch. West Ham won the league, the KO cup and the London cup. Bjorn Knutsson became World Champion and finished second in the Internationale. All in all the year that has remained in my memory when others have faded.

  9. The days of usually seeing the opposing teams no 1 sometimes only once a year ( barring individual meetings) made it special for me.The teams were varied tracks so different my favourite tracks had to be Hyde Rd, The Shay, Blackbird Rd , Waterden Rd, County Ground as we all know there was some dross along the way but the good well outweighed the bad.

  10. 1966 has to be one of the most interesting years in the history of British speedway .Eric Boocock garecrashed the top ten as the highest ranked rider from the old Provincial league to prove the gap could be bridged if good anough. The top 10 averages in 1966 were 1.Briggs - 11.12. 2. N.Booccock- 10.54 3.E.Boocock -10.46. 4. Nordin - 10.44. 5. Nygren - 10.40. 6.Pratt - 10.00. 7.Harrfeldt - 9.89. 8. Mauger - 9.82. 9. Mckinlay- 9.67. 10. Broadbank 9.57.

  11. Very good film, well done. Glasgow deserve credit for what they have done at the stadium and club. Sad bit is it’s astonishing at how much they put in the club and how much they are losing. No a great business!

  12. I'd like to see every multi millionaire/billionaire in this country, treat every one of the NHS key workers to a free holiday in the sun, once this is all over.

  13. I'm told that when the self isolation is over, a volunteer force is to paint everything that stands still in the stadium. I assume that Sings will be one of them ? After all, it was his idea to start with.

  17. 1982. First full season watching. League champions, with a fellow kiwi, all time favourite rider Larry Ross riding at number 1. Mort and Pc in heat 13. A 16 year old andy Smith making his debut. Quality visiting riders who excelled around Hyde Rd, such as Carter, Gundersen, Penhall, S Moran. Good times!

  18. It does not make good viewing as it is not presented well. Take last nights great play off between Somerset and Scunthorpe, brilliant racing, intriguing and commentator naming wrong riders. A fantastic set of meetings from the past. Both meetings could have had the commentary dubbed over and presented better. Goodness knows there is time to do it and present the product to a TV company for national airing, not just to the converted. As you mention it needs a revamp and there is plenty of time on peoples hands to look and do now. Forget about footage in BBC or ITV archives, their is as I mentioned previously loads of existing footage from Tapes Up, Speedway Portal that can be forwarded to respective TV companies for airing. No one is looking outside the box and continually blinkered going down a one way alley with negativity beyond redemption. Lets wake the world outside Speedway to our great sport and forget about banging on to the converted.

  20. In fairness , I think at least Monk , Boocock and Hunter were on the way up and were hardly typical of the average PL rider. If there had been no combination of leagues they would likely have made the jump from PL to NL anyway, Similarly there were Malcolm Simmons Norman Hunter and Ray Wilson who were making tremendous progress in the course of the season. It was without doubt the start of a golden era for British Speedway.

  21. Out of interest, I thought I would look up to see who were the best PL riders and how they did against former NL riders. In the 1965 league averages top of the list of former PL riders was Charlie Monk, who was 6th overall with 10.28. Then: Eric Boocock (13th with 9.43); George Hunter (15th with 9.35); Ivor Brown (16th with 9.27); Bill Andrew (19th with 9.07); Dave Younghusband (20th with 9.06) Those were the top six and the only former PL riders with a 9+ average. Incidentally, our old friend from another thread, Nigel Boocock, was top of the averages, the only rider with an 11+ average.

  22. 1970 probably. The first season i stretched my legs and saw league racing at famous venues like Wembley and West Ham. It was a real eye opener for me as a child, and made me what i am today. A sad bugger!

  23. For sure. But there have been similar remarks on tv. Thinking at the SWC with remarks from the Danes about the Polish bikes. Or even from Kelvin and the other bloke about Emil's bikes......Darcy and Holder with Smoli's bike another off the top of my head

  24. Kenny could never resist talking off the cuff...I always thought that Gary Newbon used to seek him out for an interview as he knew that he would get a reaction from Carter for TV purposes.

  25. Cardiff to many is simply a spectacle. It’s a world championship round with 16 of the world’s best riders, a magnificent stadium which attracts 35-40000 fans... Any person watching speedway for the first time will initially admire the speed and control of the motorcyclists..... but paying fans demand more, they want to be entertained. Wheel to wheel racing and overtakes at high speed are the order of the day! Unfortunately, as we all know many races do not play out this way due to either rider ability, track shape or simply the bikes are now to fast and with it a little unpredictable.to risk such moves. The bikes certainly need slowing down to bring the riders together and with it closer racing - anyone can see that but quite honestly some of the uk tracks are simply not fit or were intended for the modern day bike.

  29. 1972...my first year attending speedway. I was 12 years old and I was hooked from the very first meeting (Oxford vs. Coventry) watching four riders hit the bend at speed with no brakes and fearless. The smell and the noise was something else. As a long time football fan I was immediately struck by the excitement that speedway offered and from that day on football took a back seat. I have many memorable moments during my years following speedway (far too many to mention here) and wouldn't have changed any of it for the world. Great days and many fabulous memories to look back on.

  31. So what you are actually saying is, you don't like Cardiff... therefore it's your belief nobody does. "Nobody who goes to speedway could care less about the atmosphere" You keep surpassing yourself with the absolute stupidity (that's being polite) of your statements. Atmosphere is the biggest factor. 1981 World Final at Wembley is remembered by many as the greatest meeting they've ever been too because of the ATMOSPHERE. Stage that meeting and have the same quality of racing in front of 1000 people, it would be deemed as an average meeting at best. Besides you keep making these bold statements of 'nobody goes' etc... when the reality is, they do go... 40,000 of them. How many pack in to the NSS, or Scunthorpe, or Peterborough? Tracks that deliver the 'great racing'?

  33. Thanks for the nice comments guys, That film was made by the NC+ platform here in Poland in 2014 and we had some great feedback from it. Here is another video we did with Gerry Sims (former racer). It was supposed to be used by IMG but never got released. Feel free to give my Facebook and instagram pages a follow and a like , We try to post content regularly. All the best Ash https://www.facebook.com/1469737636632481/videos/510522086252291/

  35. Far easier to achieve in the NL. This is Kent's first season in the Championship and they have to find that out. I doubt any team in our league breaks even never mind make profit.
