  1. I've "self-isolated" myself from the other thread on corona virus...just goes round and round in circles and dominated by a certain few.

  2. I presume the person concerned was seeking out the best deals on double glazing somewhere in northern Spain?

  7. British speedway can survive and actually prosper after this despicable virus is contained. A radical approach to ensure every single club can have top quality meetings, increased attendances with top stars riding at each track. This would mean for this season a complete format change to all league structures for this season only. With 7 Premier League teams, 12 Championship teams and 3 stand alone National League teams. 22 teams competing in a structured 4TT format with every team visiting each other. This can happen with riders evenly distributed to teams regarding averages and present team signing prfrences etc. Racing format and fixtures are easily compiled, but this is totally RADICAL, but possible. Just imagine Nicki Pederson and Jason Crump visiting the likes of Kent, Mildenhall and Edinburgh. Block buster fixtures and a sure draw for spectators at every track. But wait we live in the real world and who would want something revolutionary that would actually benefit everyone in the sport?

  8. I've had a look at this today and it does get more difficult as time goes on as there are a number of Swedes who rode in World Finals who I haven't got a date of birth for and I don't know if they are alive or not but my best guess would be: 1. Arthur Payne 30.8.1924 2. Dick Bradley 28.11.1924 3. Chum Taylor, 4.4.1927 4. Eric Boothroyd, 26.4.1927 5. Derrick Close, 13.5.1927 6. Billy Bales, 6.6.1929 7. Olle Nygren, 11.11.1929 8. Rune Sormander, 29.11.1929 9. Jack Geran, 10.12.1929 10. Ian Williams, 4.8.1931 11. Per Tage Svensson, 16.10.1931 12. Peo Soederman, 29.10.1932 13. Ove Fundin, 23.5.1933 14. Jim Lightfoot, 11.11.1933 15. Dan Forsberg, 25.3.1934 16. Josef Hofmeister, 25.6.1934 17. Brian Crutcher, 23.8.1934 18. Mike Broadbank, 25.9.1934 The three Swedes who may be on the list are Olle Andersson, Ulf Ericsson and Joel Jansson but I haven't got enough detail to include them at the moment.

  9. Mauger could be ruthless and he was way out of line in this incident, but wherever Ivan rode he put a few hundred on the gate LEGEND.

  11. Been a fan of EMTV for some time and think they are doing a fantastic job providing these streams for our entertainment. The individual heats going back over the years in the "Archive" section invariably contain wins for any combination of red/blue helmet covers, but I don't have a problem with that. It's always great to see Josh Pickering or some other Monarch's rider winning from the back as that's what speedway is all about. So please keep on EMTV with these brilliant streams !!

  13. You've got to think outside the box. Dana White securing private island for UFC fights... 'Fights every week' If only there was an island with a speedway track just off the coast of southern England.

  14. The best three meeting's i saw at White City were White City v Swindon 1977 - 1982 Penhall (scandal meeting!!!) 1983 Incontinental Final .And the best couple of meeting's i saw at Cowley had to be Oxford v Supporters select 1978 ( Shields outstanding ) and Carter's miraculous effort in the British semi final.

  15. I would tend to agree...Ivan Mauger often said that whatever system was in place he would still make most of his starts.

  16. BARSBY, Charles Robert (Charlie) Born: April 29, 1930, Lowesby, Leicestershire, England.* Charlie was an exciting and occasionally wild riding performer who devoted the whole of his racing career to his local club, Leicester. He started his career at a Wilf Jay Training School near Chesterfield and had practice rides at Sheffield before making his debut for the ‘Hunters’ in April 1952. Once established in the side he cemented his place with a string of heart warming shows but his hectic style upset many rival riders and fans alike. Charlie’s best season came in 1956 when he finished with an average of 6.27 points per match, a figure which put him third in the ‘Hunters’ averages behind Ken McKinlay and Gordon McGregor and included twelve paid double figure scores. That winter he travelled for a racing season in Australia but suffered a fractured skull in a track accident and a combination of the recovery from the injury along with the fact that Leicester were now a top flight club meant his scoring never reached the same levels again. Charlie managed to retain his immense popularity at Blackbird Road and retired after ten years with the club had seen him make 239 league and cup appearances. 1952 Leicester NL2 44 92 82 18 100 4.35 1953 Leicester NL2 36 138 178 22 200 5.80 1954 Leicester NL2 20 74 87 10 97 5.24 1955 Leicester NL2 34 143 158 26 184 5.15 1956 Leicester NL2 32 169 225 40 265 6.27 1957 Leicester NL 19 69 49 17 66 3.83 1958 Leicester NL 12 43 37 9 46 4.28 1959 Leicester NL 12 48 40 11 51 4.25 1960 Leicester NL 19 57 51 13 64 4.49 - 1961 Leicester NL 11 39 40 8 48 4.92

  20. Wouldn't it be great for the sport if Sky or BT showed old GPs? It would cost the channels very little to show it (presumably little in the way of ongoing fees to the sport) and might just attract the odd new fan as we're all locked at home watching stuff that we never would have bothered with in the past.

  21. I remember seeing him ride all those years ago for Barrow his move to Belle Vue/ King's Lynn did not quite work out for him.A terrific stylist even after his enforced layoff Mark came back and had a decent career.Along with Mel Taylor those two never quite did fullfil there true potential great to see Mark still involved within the sport.

  24. Afternoon Just a word to the wise about a friend of mine called Dave (cough cough) Dave's wife treat him to a night out for a special birthday by taking him to a lap dancing club. When they arrived the Doorman said "Okay Dave how's tricks?" His wife asked "how does he know you?" Dave says "oh er I play footy with him" Inside the barman says "usual Dave?" Dave turns to the wife and says "before you ask or say anything he's on the darts team at my local okay" Next a lap dancer walks straight up to him and says "hi Dave do you want the special again?" and the wife storms out and grabs him by the collar dragging him out with her and jumps into a taxi" Taxi driver says "Jesus Dave you've pulled a right minger this week" True Story That!!! Be safe; keep well and look after yourself Regards THJ

  26. Must admit I’ve followed this thread from the beginning and found myself shaking my head in disbelief at some of the contributions. Steve Irving you could have literally made a greatest hits from Bwitcher alone, but I didn’t expect anything less from him in all honesty. Some of the others have been disappointing to say the least.

  27. If you are a Facebook user, we are having a weekly speedway quiz on our usual Thursday race night. The questions and instructions are posted on the Wightlink Warriors and Wightlink Wizards Supporter’s Club Fb page at 19.00 with the answers posted the following Sunday. No prizes, just a bit of fun. Why not have a look and try your luck?
