It's a forum where people give their opinions, you don't have to agree, if you had half a brain you could make a sensible argument. Discount only works if you have been to meeting one it would mean ppl have to go each time So meeting one £18 Two £16 Three £14 Four £12 Five £12 Six £12 Seven £12 And so on... If you miss the sequence you restart but if you're savvy you buy a friend a ticket

(cough cough) EMPLOYEE NOTICE Due to the current financial situation caused by the Corona Virus and slowdown in the economy, the Government has decided to implement a scheme to put workers of 50 years of age and above on early, mandatory retirement, thus creating jobs and reducing unemployment. This scheme will be known as RAPE (Retire Aged People Early). Persons selected to be RAPED can apply to the Government to be considered for the SHAFT program (Special Help After Forced Termination). Persons who have been RAPED and SHAFTED will be reviewed under the SCREW program (System Covering Retired-Early Workers). A person may be RAPED once, SHAFTED twice and SCREWED as many times as the Government deems appropriate. Persons who have been RAPED could get AIDS (Additional Income for Dependents & Spouse) or HERPES (Half Earnings for Retired Personnel Early Severance). Easy for me, the 1981 WF at Wembley-the two races where Penhall came from the back to beat Ole Olsen and Tommy Knudsen- I think in the last lap both times. Penhall-a worthy champion indeed!!!

I think the riders would need as much racing as is possible given they would have budgeted for 60 to 70 meetings or so if doubling up I would suggest.. And the landlords too would want as much as possible I would think so maybe reduced rent could be applied given most keep the bar and car park takes..? Maybe running six times a month or so at £10 to £12 a night would be more beneficial than running once every other week at £18...? Fixed race nights will be off the agenda globally I would think given the race to get as much Speedway in as they can. With Mon and Thu still being the TV nights over here, but 'any other' night where they can get a decent crowd being targeted. The Aces for example would get around 1800 or so quite comfortably I reckon at around £12 on a Saturday night if they ran a Monday, Saturday, Thursday pattern. At a reduced admission though for all three as at £18 a night it wouldn't happen..

Hi Norbold, your post got me thinking of the first World Final race I ever saw. Heat 1 of 1965- Nigel Boocock beat Ove Fundin--quite a surprise, then in Heat 2, Brian Brett won his first ever World Final ride. Any other forumlanders at the 1965 WF-I assume there were quite a few . However the best Final I ever saw had to be 1981

Nothing to stop the UK riding every night it wants I would say if others do the same.. Should Poland and Sweden want to cram as many meetings in as they can, you would think that the riders who ride in either (or both) leagues, and ride over here, would want to maximise their income and go where the money is best.. That would give plenty of UK riders lots or meetings over here and may prove a pointer towards a more 'going it alone' plan in the future..

If Poland gets green light and races every night, why shouldn't UK.??? British Clubs and specifically British riders need to earn. If a few Brits and some overseas riders have to decide, that's up to them their choice. If UK shuts down due to Poles many UK Clubs would not reopen. If any UK Clubs do close and seems likely some will if we are not racing by August, it'll be vad enough, without just lying down and letting Poland ride all over us. Their model is frighteningly like PL soccer, and probably more at risk from Global economic crash than UK is

Totally right i enjoyed the second half give newcomers a chance to mix it with the big boys after winning the stadium scurry.In 1977 i remember Malcolm Holloway demolishing the flowers beds at the Abbey hilarious.On that day i never envisaged him ever making it as a fully fledged Robin.Just shows how first impressions can be wrong, remember seeing Sam Ermolenko ride for Poole at Swindon totally out of control but hey how Sam made it bigtime in the end and he had to deal with a peak Hans then as well.

I suppose because it was my first final, one race that does stick out in my mind was Heat 2 of the 1963 final. It always promised to be a cracking heat as it brought together the reigning champion, Peter Craven; former champion Ronnie Moore; future champion, Bjorn Knutson and Peo Soderman. Moore led round the first/second bends from Soderman and Knutson with Craven on the outside last, but as they came out of the bend, Craven switched to the inside and by the end of the straight had passed Soderman and Knutson. He then rode under Moore round bends three and four and finished the first lap in the lead. It was an amazing lap from one of the most spectacular riders of all time. Knutson then did the same on lap two, taking both Soderman and Moore to go from last to second on the second lap. The race between Craven and Knutson was then on but Craven just held on to win. It was to be his only heat win of the night.

I thought that the Olsen, Mauger & Kennett encounter at Wembley in 1978 was developing into something special until Ivan fell. You could have thrown a blanket over the three of them (to quote a Dave Lanning phrase).

Don't forget, Bob, PC's first two rides at Katowice in 1976 were both pretty special too.

Hi Chris, thanks for your support for the Warriors and our footage. As for away wins? Well, when making the decision to put the meeting footage up, we wanted to relive the Warriors journey so far, highs and the lows, in order and without prejudice. Already we have seen an away win in one of the videos already available in fact. Even when the Warriors haven't been able to reach the scores needed for a win on the night, its clear their efforts were/are always valued, along with all of the Warriors off track team, supporters, helpers and indeed sponsors. So by putting these meetings up and reliving the journey, the highs and the lows, we hope will convey the Warrior Way, something that Speedway Portal are very proud to have been apart of from the start, and continue to be today. My thanks to both Isle Of Wight and Edinburgh for the videos they are showing while there is no live speedway. Also looking forward to the double header from Eastbourne tomorrow. I have no doubt that other teams are also doing this but those are the three I know about and they deserve our grateful thanks for their efforts. I wonder how many away wins will feature????

Like i said Sid, John was like Marmite, you either liked him or you didn't. I got on well with him. Regarding the yanks. I remember seeing Autrey having after the meeting spins at Wimbledon in the early 1970's, and Gene Woods had a short spell riding for the Dons in 1981. It's a shame he didn't stick with it, he was a stylish rider with lots of potential.
