  1. Morning Some important information I have just received from work that may help folk during these tough times and could be very relevent to Speedeay fans of a certain age... (cough cough) EMPLOYEE NOTICE Due to the current financial situation caused by the Corona Virus and slowdown in the economy, the Government has decided to implement a scheme to put workers of 50 years of age and above on early, mandatory retirement, thus creating jobs and reducing unemployment. This scheme will be known as RAPE (Retire Aged People Early). Persons selected to be RAPED can apply to the Government to be considered for the SHAFT program (Special Help After Forced Termination). Persons who have been RAPED and SHAFTED will be reviewed under the SCREW program (System Covering Retired-Early Workers). A person may be RAPED once, SHAFTED twice and SCREWED as many times as the Government deems appropriate. Persons who have been RAPED could get AIDS (Additional Income for Dependents & Spouse) or HERPES (Half Earnings for Retired Personnel Early Severance). Obviously persons who have AIDS or HERPES will not be SHAFTED or SCREWED any further by the Government. Persons who are not RAPED and are staying on will receive as much S.H.1.T. (Special High Intensity Training) as possible. The Government has always prided themselves on the amount of S.H.1.T. they give our citizens. Should you feel that you do not receive enough S.H.1.T, please bring this to the attention of your MP, who has been trained to give you all the S.H.1.T. you can handle. Sincerely, The Committee for Economic Value of Individual Lives (E.V.I.L.) PS - Due to Corona Virus, recent budget cuts and the rising cost of electricity, gas and oil, as well as current market conditions, The Light at the End of the Tunnel has been turned off. Regards THJ

  4. 50 yrs to the day and date can u remember comets fans what u were doing, i was 12 and on the sunday before mother made us go to sunday school at st michaels and we could here this noise coming fron derwent park,so we sneaked in over the infamous sewer pipe and saw out first bikes going round ,the noise and the smell was fantastic. Jeff brownhut saw us and we asked if we could get in for nothing on friday night he laughed and said stand at the pit gate and we would get in,true to his work a load of us kids got in that night and that was it we were hooked.i wish i could remember more apart from standing next to the safety fence and soon moving after the first race. Both ian and jeff are no longer with us but i and many others owe them a lifetime of memories and of course thanks to Tony mole i often wonder what us kids would have done without the comets in our school days, cycle speedway tracks everywhere bikes picked up at hanrattys scrap yard trips away to many other tracks, its a crying shame my grandkids who luved going will not have the pleasure we had as kids following our heros. so heres to 50 yrs and hopefully one day the Comets will rise again. Give us C etc .

  5. I’m not sure why that should be. Most tracks make losses. Will the losses be greater if they don’t run? In my view, speedway in UK will survive if speedway supporters want it to.

  7. Hi Chris, thanks for your support for the Warriors and our footage. As for away wins? Well, when making the decision to put the meeting footage up, we wanted to relive the Warriors journey so far, highs and the lows, in order and without prejudice. Already we have seen an away win in one of the videos already available in fact. Even when the Warriors haven't been able to reach the scores needed for a win on the night, its clear their efforts were/are always valued, along with all of the Warriors off track team, supporters, helpers and indeed sponsors. So by putting these meetings up and reliving the journey, the highs and the lows, we hope will convey the Warrior Way, something that Speedway Portal are very proud to have been apart of from the start, and continue to be today. 9. I've just taken out an annual subscription, having let my previous one lapse many years ago when my team closed down. I still buy the occasional one at the supermarket, but thought it was time to subscribe again. I think we are very lucky to have a weekly magazine of such quality for our sport and I'm looking forward to it coming through the letterbox again.

  10. THINK it largely depends oil the scale of your business. We have enquired of our bank and been told that a monthly direct debit facility isn't available. Might also have something to with the sum of money involved. It could be that our bank (maybe others too) are not interested in direct debits for sums as little as £10.

  11. THANKS for your thoughts. Monthly direct debits are a problem with banks. You can of course renew every 13 weeks and online editions can be purchased over a variety of periods.

  13. Because Scumball is the god of TV and the press. At the very least they should be showing a mixture of sports and moving towards summer sports of which speedway is one that is shown on a regular basis.

  16. Pretty sure Garcia and Bates both mistook (forgot)the tapes as finishing line and it cost them heat wins, both pipped on the real line.

  18. So many go on about gardening delaying the modern meeting and how it didnt happen in the old days It's often then pointed out how long it takes for a clip to start on the BSPA site But look at this - has it really ever been any different Clip is 2:12 and race starts after 53 seconds....

  19. Never said or hinted it was superior mate, just stating my own preferred option.

  20. Absolutely. The marketing of the sport is hugely flawed, but I still believe that the basic product is still very good. I don't have much truck with "better in the old days" crowd. Much of today's action is equally good if not better that what has gone in the past. Ditto, some of the dross of today is matched by the past too. From my first meeting it has always stood out as a unique and special sport. Four crazy guys skidding around a track with no brakes on for minute long races...and the smeil too.. oh the smell! I like a lot of sports, but at its best, I still believe nothing compares to it.

  21. Me too, as I spend mot of my work hours staring at a screen. I often read at work where peeps will sometimes ask "did you see last nite's match, wasn't it great" I deliberately reply "Oh you mean Belle Vue v Swindon (or whoever) when Fricke came from nowhere to win , brilliant!" . They often reply "no, Man U v Liverpool or (whoever)" . But whatever works for you, great read either way....

  22. But our teams will be in a similar position, Companies will be thinking of survival rather than how much cash they have available for Sponsorship.

  24. So 2021 may be closer to a level playing field ..... Could be an opportunity for the UK to re-establish a stronger position

  25. That would be the best option IMHO

  26. Maybe because they don't know if or when the season will start, and how many matches will take place? As far as I am concerned, they can roll my season ticket over to next year, and I can pay for the few matches which are likely to take place later on.

  27. If you are a Facebook user, we are having a weekly speedway quiz on our usual Thursday race night. The questions and instructions are posted on the Wightlink Warriors and Wightlink Wizards Supporter’s Club Fb page at 19.00 with the answers posted the following Sunday. No prizes, just a bit of fun. Why not have a look and try your luck?

  30. 2010 was one of those seasons when the team who finished top of the table was declared Champions (and rightly so). However, there were also promotion / relegation play-offs, which Newcastle won (as mentioned in my earlier post). I think 2009 was also run the same way (KL finished top = Champions but Monarchs won the play-offs before losing to Belle Vue). Golden Heats were 2009. One of the tensest evenings ever at sunny Armadale. Good old Matthew Wethers! And I'm fine Sir. Just keeping my head down. Stay safe
