I would like to offer my sincere thanks to everybody involved in producing the Speedway Star, despite the current crisis. To be able to fill nearly fifty pages with things to read about our beloved sport, even if a certain amount of it is nostalgia stuff, is a credit to them all. With businesses dropping by the wayside at a fast rate of knots, I think it's important that we speedway supporters do our bit to keep the company going, and at just £3 a week, is that really asking a lot, when you consider a match day programme usually costs £4 these days. I appreciate that social media provides most of the information we require these days, but this is about trying to keep the only weekly speedway publication up and running, even if we only take up 6-month subscription for £60 until the current coronavirus crisis is hopefully behind us. Such a lot of the older generation who need the help of those who are more able bodied to be more flexible in the way they are living their lives with shopping etc., don't have access, or can't afford the luxury of the internet, and rely either being at meetings to keep up to date, and purchase their magazine from the Track Shop, or use the subscription service. So please, if you are of the younger generation, and can afford it (It's cheaper than a Smart phone package), take out a short term subscription and help the elderly and vulnerable. I don't work for the Speedway Star, and these are purely my personal thoughts and feelings. Thank you for reading this, and if you don't agree with my posting, then please don't post negative comments about it, as I'm thinking of the older generation that to a large extent keep our clubs open as most promoters will tell you, and at the same time, it keep the staff of the magazine in employment. STAY SAFE EVERYBODY13 points

Scammers always try to lure the old and mentally disadvantaged, so obviously BSF members are at risk from them..6 points

I think it's time british speedway in a sense looked after it's own clubs, it's own riders and it's own fans. No restrictions on when you can run your speedway night, a less is more club offering on the league front with more focus on the individual element for British Riders and Championship. There is no better time than now really to act once this is all over, it's likely a few teams will be lost but with limited riders to go around and the necessity really to run more on the days thay benefit your business in terms of crowd size etc. Then less clubs isn't a bad thing until more young british or commonwealth riders are coming through the system3 points

Totally agree for me he is a breath of fresh air, he runs a good night out for everybody and the main thing is he caters for all ages. The track in itself for me is a Championship track ( minimum) decent racing and as a few days break in the summer is a decent option to say Torquay or Weymouth.Would Mr Bishop take on more responsibility??? i doubt it he knows his fresh ideas and input would be difficult to push through i hope i am wrong though. It would be great if Barry, Lee Kilby, Neil Vatcher was part of a team that could push speedway in the UK a bit further forward probably wishful thinking.3 points

It’s also worth noting that Robert won races and reached semis in the GP before his crash in the SoN which completely knocked the stuffing out of him, he was never the same after that particularly round the first two bends.3 points

Phil, Thanks to you and to your editorial staff, for the efforts in keeping going at this extremely challenging time. The sport needs the Speedway Star to survive and we should support and help them to weather this serious storm.3 points

Given rider availability is going to be a huge issue right across Europe I think any kind of meetings including open ones will be the way forward once things are up and running again. Itll be upto the riders where they wish to earn their bread but yes most will just want to see any kind of racing.2 points

You think you've got problems. I've just had someone trying to sell me a speedway season ticket ;-)2 points

Come on, John... In your latest post, you "wondered" if Al had been a grass-tracker before turning to speedway. Why would you ask that, when you had already stated it? It is perfectly okay to just dig up a subject and ask if anyone has any memories, or has anything to add, without posting strange comments like that. I am NOT anti-gustix, just anti-stupidity (whoever posts it).2 points

I thought generally he acquitted himself very well before that injury interupted his season. Also it is worth remembering what Tai Woffinden achieved in his maiden GP series he learned alot from that year and came back even stronger.I do think the point made about Robert not quite having the set up aquipment and package yet to be a full time GP rider is right that takes time and money but he will get there eventually.2 points

You can also use your fingers to wipe your bottom when there is not a toilet roll in sight, but a crumpet in your hands is a thing of wonder!2 points

I see that the Principality Stadium is to be set up as a 'Nightingale Hospital' for 2000 patients ... Any pretence that the GP calendar will look anything like that still being envisaged by BSI seems fanciful.2 points

Good meetings on video from Edinburgh and Peterborough this evening with some great races that show why we all love Speedway. Thank you to those who made it possible.2 points

The Russian Chlinovski was excluded, but instead of awarding the race to Plech, the referee inexplicably gave the win to Collins, meaning that Plech missed out on joining Mauger and Szczakiel in the run-off for the championship.1 point

Just had a very very quick check of British riders with Premier/Championship teams and i made it 44 riders, so even if there are 50 riders its nowhere near enough to have British rider only teams even if all of them rode for two teams.. which just shows what a poor state the sport is in in this country..1 point

Those who were concerned that two of these showings coincided might be relieved to know that all three of this week's matches were available to watch well after the streaming so you can watch them any time.1 point

Gossip is cheap but informed interviews and opinion from experienced journalists are priceless. Someone I knew at the BBC said "We may not broadcast the news first, but we get it right". Thanks to all at Pinegen. Keep up the fight.1 point

Just want to agree 100% with this post. The 'Star' is the speedway bible. And the only publication that represents OUR sport. It is inevitable that casual sales through supermarkets etc. will decline as people prioritise food purchases at this difficult time. If your finances allow please consider a subscription. PS: I'm not a 'Star' employee, just a long time subscriber.1 point

No a think you are right I deffo don't think we were favourites for the wooden spoon either. .. At home we would have put a few of the so called top teams to the sword.... Right this Star Wars movie is doing my nut in av seen it that many times a could star in it...So how about a bit of mischief... just to stir it up a bit... rather than your favourite 7 Diamonds how about your 7 riders you wouldn't want to see riding for Newcastle... 1. Eddie Kennett 2. Gary Havelock 3. Josh Auty 4. Adam Roynon 5. Jordan Frampton 6. Gary Flint 7. Danny Phillips Not thst any of them were bad riders per sey (cough cough) they just didn't seem to perform at Brough... and we once went after Kennett would you believe... Now light blue touch paper and stand well back... May the force be with you... Regards THJ1 point

Are you Stevie Wonder in disguise, ???? av a look at the under 21s at the Vue Lambert was miles ahead of anyone on that day.Smektala had to ride his balls off to beat him( Smektala i rate will be a gp rider). Kubera and Chugonov are no more in front of Lambert get your head out your ass Phillipsr you have always knocked me piped up on a regular basis over Josh Auty .This topic you have no idea Chugunov,Kubera are hopefuls for the series in the future no more than Lambert or Drabik.1 point

I never said they WEREN'T special. Or at least, they COULD be special. Again, looking at it from an event point of view, we were spoiled by Wembley. It seems to be a case of fans looking for different things from speedway. Do you want to go to Wembley with 93,000 others, and experience a poor meeting with maybe one or two decent races, but a fantastic atmosphere. Or do you want to see an incredible GP with breathtaking racing at Wroclaw. Do you want to see a competitive meeting with AT LEAST 12 of the Top 15 riders in the world, or a meeting which was never designed (post-war, anyway) to field the world's best, and was usually missing one or two of the expected front-runners? Nothing is - or ever was - perfect. Yes, I miss the good ol' days. I miss the gleaming chrome and black leathers. I miss Wembley, Wimbledon, and Belle Vue. I miss Moore, Briggs, and Boocock. But you know, it wasn't ALL great. It never will be ALL great. Life changes, and we change. However, speedway can still be the most fantastic sport in the world - if you just sit down and watch the racing...1 point

Step forward Barry Bishop - kneel and Arise Sir Barry. And onwards to the deserved speedway sainthood status. Please foward some DNA and I will attempt to clone 50 Promoters, who can work together to ensure the speedway racing does survive.1 point

I am a UD Almería season ticket holder and we still have 6 home games to be played! Will these games be played? If not will I get a refund? Who cares? People are dying, people are very ill......there are far too many serious matters to address, rather than speculating about refunds!1 point

I would like to mourn the passing of Stars superfan and season ticket holder - David Mckuen, who passed away last week after a short illness. David was devoted to the Stars and attended every year since they opened ( and also the Linnets football team ). He was a kind and generous man who went out of his way to give me a lift to Stars matches. If you knew him on the first bend terraces, join me in a There You Go friend salute. R.I.P. David. God Bless.1 point
