  3. I would have thought running a sport that could potentially take away I.C.U resources is morally wrong at this time. Sorry but the BSPA has no choice but to postpone the start of the season.

  6. Many of the private staff are NHS workers, who would be better employed in their normal jobs on overtime than standing in the pits at speedway.

  7. Will you do this board a favour and stop insulting the intelligence of those who post on it. You are certainly insulting mine and I take offence to that. Stop being a child. A WUM. A troll. If you can't then do us all a favour and stop posting. It is absolutely pathetic. This is an evolving situation and no planning would have been done until the Association had further and central government guidance. Like the rest of the nation and every business within it. You attention seeking little cretin.

  8. Tin hat on as usual.. But Why does Rob have to give a reason? Its not as if they are ‘paid’ employees. He may just want his own people in who he personally trusts? ( not saying others aren't trustworthy either) Harsh on some but not before time on others imo... Nothing wrong with that surely? personally I'm over the moon that the freemason type, closed shop them and us clique that has been at Newcastle speedway for many years has been smashed to smithereens!! Hail hail.

  9. If the riders have been told then why not just tell the fans too? There should be no cloud of mystery

  10. Why? Who are you and on what authorirty do you speak? It's not rocket science to come up with that. May is kicking the can but correct in that they just need a point to reflect on the position at that time. Current worse case projections suggest that any speedway this season is unlikely. We don't need your expertise to come up with that.

  12. Whilst it would have been nicer to tell them earlier, I also welcome a new broom. it has been really irritating as a fan to watch and hear the secret code amongst the in crowd of ‘we know whats happening but we aren’t telling you.’ Welcome to terraces and life on the other side of the pits fence gentlemen.

  13. Which just goes to show they had already made the decision last week if they are letting riders leave the country. As always the authorities assume the public are stupid.

  14. Fair enough, but if it was my dollars i was putting into a business id want my own people with me... especially on the money side of things. As i say its harsh on some but its Robs call and fair play to him for doing it his way, he must have his reasons. Be interesting when the dust settles who's services have been retained. Its quite refreshing in my opinion.

  16. And I take your point on board about speedway's use of private ambulances. However, when the government is really scrambling around soon for any medical resources, do you really think any private ambulance company wants the PR-disaster of insisting it still needs to honour its contract with a speedway club rather than adding that ambulance to the general cause (especially when the government probably offers a good bit more money for such a cross-over compared to whatever the speedway club was due to pay in the first place) ? !! Today's steering of emergency services away from mass gatherings is one step for now. In due course, it will almost certainly be at least a short-term government enforcement that merges NHS and private medical resources into one overall medical resource for the national good - remember, any private ambulance still needs to operate under government standards while not being under the NHS banner so bringing it into one overall stock won't be difficult if the government insists upon it.

  17. Most cover is provided by private staff and ambulances paid for by the promotion. Not normally NHS staff, I take the point on board they will be stressed by speedway accidents at NHS hospitals.

  18. One aspect of Boris Johnson's update a few minutes ago cuts across speedway more than anything else, namely his insistence that the emergency services should be concentrated towards where they're urgently and unusually needed rather than providing support to things like sporting events and other mass gatherings. You can argue on here all you like about what size crowd is too big or too small with regard to that sort of guideline. Very bluntly (and probably reflecting the general public's attitude rather than just speedway folk), the government won't allow an ambulance to be parked beside a speedway track for a couple of hours, often (and thankfully) not being required for any use, when it's highly likely to be needed in the general battle against coronavirus - similarly, accident & emergency staff need to be left to get on with general coronavirus admissions without having a speedway rider's broken bones added to their workload. British horse racing (another sport totally reliant on ambulance cover for its go-ahead) announced earlier today it would go completely behind closed doors from tomorrow onwards but now only its tax generation via betting might enable it to keep its ambulance cover as a special exemption within these emergency services guidelines for mass gatherings. However, given greyhound racing obviously requires a vet rather than an ambulance to be in attendance for its go-ahead, the dogs might be able to run round their tracks while the horses can't.

  23. Darren will bring more than that to the table. He is an ex rider who still has a runout occasionally, knows all the other referees, well acquainted with Newcastle as a club and will know most of the riders. I welcome him to the club, he's straight forward and a good guy.

  28. Message over the weekend, from a leading Tory, could be distilled to 'we're all in it together'. How well did that go last time?

  29. The worlds gone totally mad most people support banning large gatherings closing bars and restaurants etc so they are a lot safer. Then a lot of the same people this weekend swarmed into over crowded supermarkets panic buying , queuing for over an hour with hundreds of other people to get to a till when there is no need.Make your mind up people a crowd is a crowd wherever you are. They are both the same risk the only difference is that a supermarket crowd panic buying leaves some old folk without some food toilet rolls.milk, pain killers etc.Mums without baby milk and baby wipes etc if this applies to you get a grip this virus is going to be around for quite a while. By the way my wife works in a supermarket on a till and had to go in on her day off yesterday to cope with this madness and witnessed all said above.

  30. I do hope not after reading "No.2 You're a paying customer so you will be told in due course. You're not entitled to anything so you will be told when the heads of British Speedway decide to tell you" It would explain a lot and is certainly a no2. Whilst not entirely wrong in itself, the tone of that hardly helps.

  31. No they shouldn't have.. It's only the indoctrinated panic merchants that have caused the entire thing. Too late now, the indoctrinated have done the damage.

  32. Why they need to call a meeting about this dint know. Common sense should prevail, the season should be postponed until the pandemic is contol led. Riders can't get here, others can't fly out causing real problems It's a shame the controlling body can't make a desicion.

  33. We all know your true colours however. If I’m so ‘selfish’ why was I shopping for elderly and vulnerable today to get them some essentials they desperately need that the greedy are taking for themselves? know nothing, know nothing , know nothing.

  34. What utter codswallop and you know it. Unless they have relatives who are elderly and vulnerable they don’t ‘need caring for’. The riders must have been told they won’t be racing for their clubs till at least April which begs the question why aren’t the fans being told this instead of this secrecy of a meeting tomorrow that will update fans on the current situation. By all accounts we all know the season isn’t starting this week if riders are being allowed to isolate so this isn’t going to be any new news. Most people will have guessed all this anyway, even you.

  36. We had James at Ipswich for a full season in 2016 and i don't think he hardly ever broke the tapes, he rode at number 2 with King at 1 and they proved a very good pairing round Foxhall, his bad habits started after that and continues till this day.

  43. I genuinely believe this will kill British Speedway stone cold dead. As said, most attending are over 60 & have been going for their lifetime. Once the habits are broken the majority will not come back to Speedway. This virus may not kill as many of the elderly as first expected but it most certainly will kill this sport.

  45. Found on Twitter from Professor Ian Donald. 1. The govt strategy on #Coronavirus is more refined than those used in other countries and potentially very effective. But it is also riskier and based on a number of assumptions. They need to be correct, and the measures they introduce need to work when they are supposed to. 2. This all assumes I'm correct in what I think the govt are doing and why. I could be wrong - and wouldn't be surprised. But it looks to me like. . . 3. A UK starting assumption is that a high number of the population will inevitably get infected whatever is done – up to 80%. As you can’t stop it, so it is best to manage it. There are limited health resources so the aim is to manage the flow of the seriously ill to these. 4. The Italian model the aims to stop infection. The UKs wants infection BUT of particular categories of people. The aim of the UK is to have as many lower risk people infected as possible. Immune people cannot infect others; the more there are the lower the risk of infection 5. That's herd immunity. Based on this idea, at the moment the govt wants people to get infected, up until hospitals begin to reach capacity. At that they want to reduce, but not stop infection rate. Ideally they balance it so the numbers entering hospital = the number leaving. 6. That balance is the big risk. All the time people are being treated, other mildly ill people are recovering and the population grows a higher percent of immune people who can’t infect. They can also return to work and keep things going normally - and go to the pubs. 7.The risk is being able to accurately manage infection flow relative to health case resources. Data on infection rates needs to be accurate, the measures they introduce need to work and at the time they want them to and to the degree they want, or the system is overwhelmed. 8. Schools: Kids generally won’t get very ill, so the govt can use them as a tool to infect others when you want to increase infection. When you need to slow infection, that tap can be turned off – at that point they close the schools. Politically risky for them to say this. 9. The same for large scale events - stop them when you want to slow infection rates; turn another tap off. This means schools etc are closed for a shorter period and disruption generally is therefore for a shorter period, AND with a growing immune population. This is sustainable 10. After a while most of the population is immune, the seriously ill have all received treatment and the country is resistant. The more vulnerable are then less at risk. This is the end state the govt is aiming for and could achieve. 11. BUT a key issue during this process is protection of those for whom the virus is fatal. It's not clear the full measures there are to protect those people. It assumes they can measure infection, that their behavioural expectations are met - people do what they think they will 12. The Italian (and others) strategy is to stop as much infection as possible - or all infection. This is appealing, but then what? The restrictions are not sustainable for months. So the will need to be relaxed. But that will lead to reemergence of infections. 13. Then rates will then start to climb again. So they will have to reintroduce the restrictions each time infection rates rise. That is not a sustainable model and takes much longer to achieve the goal of a largely immune population with low risk of infection of the vulnerable 14. As the government tries to achieve equilibrium between hospitalisations and infections, more interventions will appear. It's perhaps why there are at the moment few public information films on staying at home. They are treading a tight path, but possibly a sensible one. 15. This is probably the best strategy, but they should explain it more clearly. It relies on a lot of assumptions, so it would be good to know what they are - especially behavioural. Most encouraging, it's way too clever for #BorisJohnson to have had any role in developing.
