  1. I had two women literally fighting over the last packet of paracetamol in my shop last night.. One woman picked it up and another snatched it from her as she had gone for it at virtually the same time.. They kicked off an argument and the one who got there seconds late wouldn't give it to the other woman so the one who had got there first gave the other a proper good right hander to the head, knocking her clean over and she landed like a snotty heap on the floor.. I would suggest she needed the paracetamol after all.. A certain irony. .

  2. There is already anecdotal evidence that sell out events are being poorly attended due to people choosing to avoid public gatherings. Against that backdrop and fan's general adversion to guests, what does speedway stand to gain from persevering with the current fixture list? It would make more sense to get ahead of the game, announce a six week delay and reschedule fixtures accordingly.

  3. Sounds logical. And considering that we're so concerned about H&S that we throw BBs outside (sorry for that bit, unnecessary but had to get it in), can you imagine waiting around for a county ambulance to transfer an injured rider? Firstly we'd be sitting there all night, secondly, if and when it did arrive, what priority would that be at A&E with limited, stressed and overworked staff with limited resources? We can't run under such circumstance.

  5. People have been ringing up 111 because they have been using kitchen appliances made in China, and my local Chinese takeaway is 75% down on customers. Human ignorance has no bounds

  6. I wish EVERYBODY (not just you - and on BOTH sides) would READ what is being said, rather than just interpreting what they want. 1) NOBODY said the coronavirus causes sneezing. 2) Just because someone sneezes doesn't mean that they DON'T have the coronavirus. 3) if the virus can be spread by coughing, there is no reason it couldn't be spread by sneezing; the nose and throat are connected.

  7. Of course, it's tough, and a lot of people are going to be affected. I am not saying sport SHOULD continue, but whatever happens, life goes on, and people will still want to do things, either as a participant or as a spectator. Don't forget that, even though we are talking about "sport", sport/entertainment provides a livelihood for thousands - probably millions - of people around the world. From participants to bar/restaurant staff, from cleaners to maintenance staff, from ticket agencies to journalists. I'm sure you wouldn't want to lose your job for weeks (even months), and of course, the way things will be if everything shuts down, it is more than just simple damage to the economy. Does a flu-like (and no, I'm not attempting to trivialise it) virus necessitate the whole world shutting down everything that someone may consider "non-essential"? Think about it...

  8. Think of the media coverage speedway would get if it were the only sport running... This could be the saving of our sport

  10. Its not going to be a six week delay, its not due to peak until may or June. earliest start will be mid June or July

  11. All events will be banned sooner rather than later to 'protect' the emergency services. It won't be the sport's decision to make. The St. John's will likely be 'co-opted' into the mainstream NHS and do hospitals, under the current circumstances, want speedway riders, rolling up at A & E? That's my guess anyway.

  13. I'm talking about my local track not Peterborough. That's a different issue altogether, and even if there was no coronavirus problems, I still wouldn't be able to go there anymore, but can still do other stadiums where you haven't got a 15-minute walk from the car park!!!

  14. If it gets suspended for a few months until June, could we see a reduced fixture list of the Premiership only riding 1 Home 1 Away & the Championship being just regional(North/South divide) then top 2 or 4 go to semi finals or quarter finals depending on number of teams.

  15. Your attacks on the disabled were never funny. You are fooling no one, so wind your neck in and carry on being alarmed...

  16. So one minute couldn't give a crap about the disabled to then telling everyone to now stick together and be kind to each other. What was that about Neil Watson being two faced.

  18. All the doom and gloom merchants have their opinion yet again, rumour after rumour about Niki if the supporters put as half as much effort in to the speedway club as the promotion have over the last few years and especially last winter they would do well, instead of finding fault with everything at the club and starting falsehoods off about who is riding at Sheffield and for how long. Its time now to get behind the club not slag everything off

  19. The message is correct about the work of the Ben Fund and continuing support to riders in the years following tragic events but it's just very badly worded and a bit too specific. It's a fine line between getting it right and getting it wrong and sadly they hit the latter here.

  22. It isn't bad now in the slightest. Yes it will get worse, but to suggest its bad right now is just nonsense. 400,000 to 700,000 die every year from influenza for example. This particularly virus has taken 5000 lives so far worldwide, barely a blip. This is what's scary when people are so panicked over such small figures (compared to what happens every year)... christ knows what they'll be like if and when it shoots up.

  23. James will be riding for Newcastle, do keep up. I think that anyone wanting to see speedway should be at Scunny tomorrow, it might be the only meeting any of us see live for three months!!!!!!

  26. Believe what you want, but why do you think every country is giving advice to wash your hands regularly and thorpughly ? Because if someone sneezes into their hand and then touches something and then you come along a couple of minutes later and touch the same surface then rub your eye or pick your nose, it is highly likely you will get the virus as well...., which is why people are being advised not to shake hands and why they are now opening tube Twain doors automatically in many cities rather than having people press the button themselves.... Anyway, read the NHS advice. They say they don’t even know how it is spread. Plus similar viruses are spread by cough droplets..... think you need to give your head a wobble https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/ plus here is how long cough and sneeze droplets can stay active in the air. And you think only the people on either side will be affected once someone is seated in his place https://www.sciencealert.com/bacteria-in-your-coughs-and-sneezes-can-stay-alive-in-the-air-for-up-to-45-minutes?ignore_amp I actually Heard- it was 5 minutes, but even if that was specific to coronavirus, 5 minutes in a packed stadium is a long time....

  27. Excellent crowd. The car park was full with lots of people stood all around the track, I’d guess at 800-1000.

  28. County Indoor Bowls in Norfolk played mainly in front of family members has been suspended from approx 6pm this evening until the Autumn, so don't see how speedway or any other sport can continue at this moment in time. It's time these organisations made the right decision and not wait for a government ruling.

  30. Well of course he has but you can say that about the vast majority of riders of his age and experience. What people are saying is that the signs are there that one day in the future he will be of GP standard.

  35. Neither will they want St John's crews spending a couple of hours at the local speedway track when its likely to be all hands to the pump. As you say, it probably will be taken out of the BSPA's hands anyway.

  38. If the UK government enforce postponement of events due to the virus outbreak that prevents the contractual parties performing their side of the contract this is known as contract frustration. When a contract is frustrated by exceptional circumstances outside the control of the parties the contract becomes unenforceable with recompense paid to all parties to place them back in the same position prior to the contracts existence minus any benefit/s that the parties may had enjoyed prior to the contract being frustrated. I personally can see plenty of UK litigation occurring under the Law Reform (Frustrated Contracts) Act 1943 . No-doubt other nations may have similar laws as the UK.

  39. I really hope so as the BEN fund Meeting is a fantastic worthy event. Sadly attendance will no doubt be affected. The BSPA statement about Ayers Ashworth & Stead etc was stupid, Insensitive and disgraceful...whoever wrote it should be ashamed.

  40. And then of course, those handful of people are capable of infecting another handful of people in another crowd or on the bus or in the pub etc. That is how an epidemic works. Every infected person is capable of passing it on and very likely will do. The danger is in close contact in whatever setting.

  44. Me and the wife are of "the elderly", but we had a call from our son tonight who has just got home from a NHS meeting where obviously coronavirus had been discussed. His message for us was to restrict where we go, who we visit, do a big shop one day a week, not do multiple trips, because "this is serious" and is going to get worse, a lot worse. For sure we each decide to do what we want to do, but it would be foolish to ignore warnings, this is not a scam!
