This has been posted by David Ayres on Facebook. Danny's funeral on the 14th of February Go to Mildenhall Stadium which will be open about 12 noon. There will be a play area for the children so families welcome. Danny will be brought in about 1pm and go round the track escorted by the riders. Then on to the Crematorium for 2pm, Those with small children can watch the funeral streamed live to the Stadium as best not to take them to the Crematorium . Party time at the Stadium afterwards. Fish and chip shop will be open and the bar. Music about 7pm. All welcome to give him a send off. This is a celebration not a wake, so colourful clothing please. Danny's favourite colour is pink. All welcome.6 points

I'm sure Rob and the less bitter, normal speedway supporters, will think nothing of team building until poor Danny Ayres is finally in his resting place.3 points

These I am afraid are the issues that those at Peterborough have chosen cynically and callously to disregard.3 points

Ah, the good old days, when you needed 6 home and 6 away meetings for a rider on an assessed average to get a GSA. I seem to recall a Polish rider who had the potential for 23 meetings but surprisingly missed 12 and went into the play-offs still on an assessed average so still riding as a reserve. He scored 26+2 from 11 rides in the play-off final3 points

Crump should be no higher than a 5.00, even then will struggle for a 4.00 average imo3 points

Maybe it’s a case of “once bitten twice shy” . We thought we had a Team when we rocked up for Press and Practice day last year and then look what happened. Can’t blame fans for worrying or being sceptical in the circumstances.3 points

The petition on change.org https://www.change.org/PeterboroughSpeedwayDisabledParking2020 remains open, and I ask as many of you as possible to sign the petition if you support its content and aims. it is a respectful, constructive petition, and makes no threats or demands, simply urging the Promotion to look at the situation again from the perspective of a Blue-Badge holder. I’ve been asked about the payment requested by change.org. It’s a ‘charge/donation’ made by them, and is nothing to do with me or the Club. However it can be skipped past (as can the sharing) there’s a link right at the bottom of the relevant page of the signing process. Thanks for reading3 points

Personal weath/income maybe be greater in the south east, but disposable income is probably no greater, especially when property is concerned, purchase price or rent on an average 2 /3 bed property in the south compared to the north more than wipes out any gain in income. I know there are other factors, employment being the main one, but I do think the north south divide is a bit of a myth, you only have to look around some of our southern coastal towns to see some deprivation.2 points

Some excellent articles in there this week...Danny Ayres tribute, Swindon track review, English team in 70s and 80s, and big rivalry with Yanks, Lee Ashby feature, Lindgren interview, etc., Good magazine for this minority sport. We should support it.2 points

Reflecting on the Ronnie Russell years at Rye House... Pretty poor results wise, but at least we made a KOC Final. Highlight was Jens Rasmussen winning the 1988 Grand Slam at Oxford. One of my favourite days supporting the Rockets. Never spoke to the guy, but grew to appreciate his efforts keeping the club going in difficult times2 points

Whether it’s the coming season or seasons after, really looking forward to watching Drew Kemp in Witches colours. The boy has so much talent and has a bright future.2 points

Think he had a tough time being sacked after moving up into the main body of the team. Yes I’d agree he started ok but he himself even admitted it was tougher than he expected. Only to be expected. Having had the pleasure of watching him in the NL he was one of the most natural riders I’ve seen on a bike since Darcy Ward, so I highly rate him by the way.2 points

A top number one that was very much needed to help with the inexperienced bottom end. never know could get himself a promotion to the championship side if one of the new boys aren’t up to scratch.2 points

Lovely dream to have Jason Crump scoring double figures every week, like the good old days. The reality is a 5 point average at most. We need to remember Anderson & Nicholls couldn't average 6 last season.1 point

I’m sure I’m not alone in saying that my disabilities control my whole life. Any trip out, be it shopping, sightseeing, concerts, or sport is defined by the simple question ‘how far will I have to walk’. Supermarkets are, by and large, not a problem, I choose large stores that provide ‘mart carts’ or small local shops where I can park outside and get what I need in close proximity to the door. For non-food purchases Amazon is my friend! A trip to the seaside has to start very early in the day to bag a parking place by the beach and facilities - if they’re all taken we come home. The National Trust are very switched on to mobility issues and provide shuttles from the car-park to the main attraction - similar to the one used at Leicester speedway. For gigs I have a list of venues that work well for me, and a list of those that are out of the question. Sport? I only ever go to speedway and at the majority of clubs there’s parking adjacent to the entrance which is generally right by the track. Leicester and Peterborough are notable exceptions - I’ve already mentioned Leicester who acknowledge the issue and offer a buggy service. Like many I have both mobility and breathing problems, which combined mean I simply cannot walk any distance - I wish I could. I am reliant on destinations acknowledging the issue and making adjustments, most do but sadly there are exceptions.1 point

Kent are indeed offering something special, called Championship speedway, which their public haven't seen previously. As for it being higher-priced that elsewhere, l'd gently point out the location in the wealthy bottom-right corner of the island. Local income, and personal wealth will be considerably greater than in and around (say) Newcastle, Redcar or Berwick. Thus, pro-rata, their pricing is maybe about the right level. Discuss?1 point

How many leagues do the Panthers race in then, he would be only riding once maybe twice a week, get practically most of the UK summer months off,1 point

The situation over Blue Badge parking is despicable. The claim that it is merely in line with Showground policy is misleading as I would guess that a large majority of showground events involve the arena and not the stadium or events which commence effectively just inside the turnstiles. Very few events it seems to me have no visitor involvement until the stadium is reached. Enquiries I have made seem to think that Speedway and possibly the Showground would be in a difficult legal position should a Blue Badge holder injure themselves or worse during the marathon walk now required , having willfully and knowingly chosen to ignore the fundamental requirements and principles of being eligible to have a badge. Gladstone Brooks an" Injury lawyers for You". could be in for a field day1 point

It is ok that the SCB appoint Track Curator Advisors for the poor, bumpy tracks that we have opinions on, and we are all entitled to our opinions, as some of these poor tracks as away fans see them, the home fans will have a different opinion. Shale has been in short supply these last 2 years & the changing, seasonal weather has not helped. What some tracks have done though & have done these last few years is change the shape to produce better racing. Ipswich & Leicester are teams that have tried a couple of changes. Glasgow & Swindon this last season made changes that the riders, fans & opponents liked. Berwick are changing theirs at this present moment.1 point

I remember that, and was going to mention it. And then they won the league title.1 point

Solfest is a good festival but Maryport Blues used to be something else; I say used to be because due to escalating costs the whole thing has been racked back; the main route through the town was closed off with a stage at the bottom of the main street (Senhouse Street) as you went over the bridge to the harbour... The whole town was bouncing from the Thursday through to the Sunday and they had some top marque recognised and famous acts performing... unfortunately I doubt we will see those heady times again... However its not all doom and gloom the Blues is now run on a smaller more modest scale and all the pubs still put bands on through the weekend with some having 3 different acts on in the same day plus the pubs are open from early to very (very) late and its still good entertainment which is mostly free (the clubs sometimes (but rarely) have a small cover charge)... they also have kids rides and food stands for the compulsory (dirty) burger and this year the weather was cracking so that helped and you can see plenty of local and up and coming bands with a few established turns strutting there stuff as well... So if you like a drink and enjoy watching live music; I couldn't give the Blues a stronger recommendation because as stated its free to see most of the bands in the pubs and clubs; you just check your programme and wander from pub to pub on a musical pub crawl... Regards THJ1 point

My first fav when I started watching speedway at New Cross was Jimmy Squibb. Then Olle Nygren when I supported Wimbledon, Barry Briggs at Swindon, Simon Stead at Workington, and Leigh Adams when I moved back to Swindon. Jason Doyle fav now. Was also a big fan of Peter Craven and Bjorn Knutsson in the 60s.1 point

Agreed, very odd logic. Any of the 15 could win a round, but only 3 or 4 the title, so would be bizarre if you didnt get a better price for the round on the title favourites...1 point

Its not the best way to keep what paying customers they still may have left by leaving it so late, they have had the same time as everyone else and yes the budget is obviously the main stumbling block, two main sponsors who must be now thinking what the hell we let ourselves in for, Its been obvious that Iversen turned them down weeks ago. Got to ask will they actually start the season.1 point

As I said, focus on the main stand and lower first bend terracing. Get those up to standard and close down the rest. It'll give the capacity needed.1 point

Very shocked by this sad news, Danny was a great character and entertainer, the sport needs more riders like Danny, great to watch and always gave 100% in every race, he will be sadly missed, condolences to his family. RIP.1 point

Excellent promoter to work for. Deserved more luck/success at Rye House. He poured cash in to make it work and was eventually beaten, but only after one heck of a fight. The story made it to the BBC News website. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-bristol-513834341 point

Has anyone at the Swindon speedway club approached Dr Laurie Marsh about a new stadium? He is a philanthropist who wanted to redevelop Swindon town centre but his plans were turned down by the council last September. He clearly wants to do something good for Swindon and, as speedway is important to the town, he may be interested in helping out with a new stadium for the club. It’s pretty clear by now that Clarke Osborne and his company have little interest in improving the stadium for the town and are unlikely to ever see their plans for it through.1 point

Good news is that I've heard from Wealdstone and he's fit and well but just had the enthusiasm kicked out of him by Panthers management. The clubs regressive action against their own disabled fans (even the ones that played ball) amongst other things has left him drained and in need of a rest. I know how he feels and I suspect that he's far from alone.1 point

I can give you a daily diary of my life if you like? With and without carer to show the difference..... Suffice to say, without a carer, going to the supermarket was/is a no go area let alone a precinct or shopping centre and it is only recently I have actually had a full time carer. Before that, my life was extremely limited and isolating. However, at 49 years young, I do still like my independence and anything that allows me to have that, I will grab onto for as long as I can. Thankfully I have an extremely understanding and flexible employer who is good at spotting changes that can be made even before I do to make my life easier and ensuring I can still work while my body deteriorates ever more and now a carer to deliver me to my desk and collect me afterwards. Re Peterborough and their changes, for a singleton disabled person, it makes it nigh on impossible for them to attend because the distances are too great unless they then also find and pay for a carer to attend. For most, this would be outside of their affordability.1 point

I think you'll find they need the sales to grasstrack and overseas supporters. Small price to pay for the survival of a magazine that, let's be honest, was dumped by a major publisher (IPC) and had to be rescued by the brave efforts and financial risk of its own editorial staff. With the sport collapsing in Britain they needed to do anything to prop sales up.1 point
