I assumed it would be for individual clubs that when they have completed 6 matches they can make transfers, then when they have completed 18 they can't.4 points

We seem to discuss the track at Kings Lynn all the time, how it used to be and how it is now and how it favours the home team but i feel most home fans would forgive the occasional loss for better racing.4 points

I don't think it's a bad thing at all. However, the manipulation is still possible via the Doctors note. A step in the right direction though.3 points

People having opinions is what it is all about , some may not agree with them but they may not agree with your opinion. It is a bit of fun and should just treat as such.3 points

The only thing they 'won' was the right to pick their opponents in the play offs ...3 points

Are you suggesting the ancient Egyptians had a flutter on trap 6? Greyhounds weren't bred for racing, they are hunting dogs. If you want a slightly different perspective on the treatment of racing greyhounds, I would suggest the following: Spend about 30 seconds researching the subject. Find someone who owns a pet greyhound (ex racer or otherwise) and spend a few hours with the dog. A more gentle creature does not exist on God's Earth.3 points

Now Poole have gone I don't see what this ruling adds. Can't think of any team last season or before that that's made many changes for the sake of change. While it sounds like something, it's actually nothing.2 points

It would have been a straight forward situation. Nichols instead of Broc. They would have been up to the limit that way with a track specialist to boot. Instead they’ve opted for an untested young rider and gone under the building limit. It makes no sense to me.2 points

The riders don't enjoy racing on it though, they feel like passengers, that's no good for anyone .....2 points

I don't care if it's Tungate or Iversen..nothing between them imo.. Iversen didn't pull up any trees for Ippo last season and Tungate can do better than he did for us also..Scotty is a no brainer on his low average..and I'd take Ully too. He gets a lot of stick on here from the negative moaners but a real club man and sometimes crazy to watch...I'd take him over boring riders like for instance Worrall and Lawson any day of the week..but for some people it's win at all costs..for me I like great racing and if we win doing it then great. I like all the riders we have so far so keep them coming.2 points

Just thinking did Scot want to ride for wolves? It's ok everyone saying wolves should have signed him.1 point

Correct. It's a rule that was voted in at the AGM. Not a bad idea, and certainly better than the 31 July or 31 August transfer deadlines we've had previously. At the start of the season no team can kick a rider out until they've ridden 6 matches. At the end of the season once you've completed 18 matches you have to stick with your team for the last 6 matches and play-offs. This is much fairer as all teams are working to the same deadline. With a cut-off at a specific date (31 July or 31 August) teams have done uneven numbers of meetings at that date, so they can fiddle their way round the rules. Of course there will still be ways to fiddle, but lessthan with a set-date deadline.1 point

Saying that the track is bumpy/rutty/wavy is the easy bit. You need a track expert and ££ to fix it, not riders1 point

The only reason I can think of is that they wanted to include Douglas and Nicol so nobody else could and so they can bed them in for years to come. No matter who the number one ended up being I think they wanted the other six regardless.1 point

At the end of the day, Wolves are 2 points below the limit. No other team have done that. Had you signed Scott, you’d have been up to the limit allowed for team building purposes. My argument is that nobody else has been in a position to fit him in as it currently stands, all completed teams are up to the points limit. Perhaps I should have worded the first post a little different.1 point

I only have an issue with it based upon the fact that wolves have built 2 points under the limit. They didn’t have to do that. BV did not.1 point

I absolutely hate the idea of animals being killed so humans can eat their bodies, especially the way some of them are killed but there you go that's the human race for you. The majority of problems in the World are caused by them, but I suppose that's a different subject so we'll just have to agree to disagree on Greyhound Racing.1 point

At present NJL rules are no one with a NDL average above 3 can ride and only one NDL rider per pair of 500cc at any one time. Don't forget NJL only has 2x 500cc riders where as MDL has 4. So say Archie hits the ground running and gains a 5 point NDL average by the end of the season. That is fine for this season ( as Leon Flint did a couple of seasons back ) as he started with only a 3 but next season he would be ineligible. Although I would have to double check with regards to NDL Trophy. If say Newcastle brought in Kieran Douglas to ride ( just a name who rode in NDL last season who didn't gain a 3 point average ) this would be fine to ride with Archie until he gained a NDL place then it would not be allowed ( as Berwick did last season when using Kieran Douglas and Harry McGurk who both had NDL team places. Only 1 of them rode at any one time). Hope that sort of makes sense. The NJL have their AGM at the beginning of February so any changes will be made public.1 point

Just looking through some old papers online and found regarding a potential British speedway strike in a Daily Mirror from 27 July 1937 I know from reading several Speedway News papers form the time that there was a lot of ill feeling towards American riders at the time, from taking British riders jobs not just from the riders but also in the letter pages from supporters. Regarding poor US riders when a British would have ridden much more better for their team. Shamke that I do not possess a full collection of pre-war Speedway News, but I found this in the editional of the 8 August 1937 The 3rd July 1937 Speedway News reported that Lionel Van Praag of the Riders Association was given a place on the Speedway Control Board from a recommendation from the Auto Cycle Union Track Committee. I'am currently back onto my computer copies of pre-war Speedway News that might hopefully add some more information to his news story and your excellent topic iris1231 point

Martin Haarahiltunen has qualified in the ISG for last three years. Because of the restrictions on any nation having more than the set number of qualifying riders, Sweden tends not to get Permanent Wildcards. I'd seen Martin ride at the Roelof Thijs meetings, and a Swedish Friend of mine said he was the future of Swedish Ice Speedway. I think if he stays injury free he could be a real threat to the Russians. Weber has ridden for a number of years, but has risen to the top in the last 3-4 years, qualifying on for the last two. I am of the opinion that certain German riders had too much influence in the past, so riders like Eis-Hans and Markus Jell were ignored because of it. In the last couple of years they have proved themselves, by knocking the established order with Weber getting Silver in the German Championship three years running, and Jell winning the Championship last season, after a year out of the sport. Posa once told me that some riders are 'naturals' like Erik Stenlund, but other riders take years to improve as they gain experience. Martin is, in my opinion, a Natural, whilst Eis-Hans has improved with experience.1 point

Not a good idea as the speedway club would have to close like many others across the uk as stadiums mainly stay open due to Greyhounds. I am amazed you even went to speedway on that understanding.. I expect a racing Greyhound gets a lot more exercise than a pet one ..As I always said before as humans we breed animals to kill and eat but get upset when they are bred to race and in the main have a great life1 point

Very good of Simon Stead to fly out there for one meeting to hand out the race jackets and fill in a programme.1 point

See there was also a strike in Denmark in the 1930s. Again because the crowds were so good and the money wasn’t getting to the riders. At least in their opinion. Not long after speedway suffered from an entertainment tax.....seems the Danish government didn’t consider speedway to be a sport !!!1 point

Disagree completely. There's little/no fat on him! In any case, weight has only a very very very small impact on speed. Ability, racing brain and machinery play a much bigger part.1 point
-
I don't think his weight is an issue, i think he had a particularly bad year due to personal issues and mechanical issues, like Harris, Hans etc he isn't the rider he was but i believe he will be better this season.1 point

At least it’s consistent, they know the set up and can pretty much guarantee a pay packet. As much as they may dislike it, change it and suddenly that home form goes. Kings lynn has a great shape and imo should be one of the better racing tracks in this country. It’s ideal for the modern machine but unfortunately stocks take priority. Thats the money spinner.1 point

It's not lost on me but I don't consider being stuck in kennels, when not racing, is a good life for a dog. It would be like a dog permanently waiting for a home all its life at the RSPCA. Being as you know many trainers I presume you can confirm their dog lives with them indoors at home, gets taken for a daily walk and are not kept in kennels until their next race? Yeah right. As to the dogs at Swindon not being bred in the first place that sounds like a damn good idea.1 point

He was a huge revelation. I don’t think anyone saw that coming. If he maintains his average then he will have done well too, but looks capable of more. Wright on the other hand is more than a point away as far as averages go and I grant you in a poor performing team. However with no clear leader at Belle Vue he will need to up his game as well if the Aces are to have a successful season. He has been a very slow burner so whether he has an extra point in him this season is very debatable. As he is a Brit I hope he has a great season.1 point

The "right ruddy hames" regarding the team for this year makes one wonder whether the bosses know or care what effect this has on fans ( customers) This however seems to be Busters default position "my way or no way"1 point

Having been there a few times over the last 3 years with my son racing Nl you just need to listen to the riders in the pits (home and away riders )moaning about the state of the track the worst bit is usually watering a slick bare track then it is like riding on marbles and the same holes ruts appears mid corners put a bit more shale on it and get rid of the negative camber on 3-4 and it would be ten times better racing1 point

Rather checking the viability of NL at Newcastle (hint - there isn’t any), I’drather believe this is an attempt to keep some promising youngsters in the North of England and get some sort of asset base built up.1 point
