Newcastle fans have got their Xmas wishes ... a team to support in the 2020 season. many other fans out there that can only dream of being in their position .. Workington. Coventry, Oxford, Rye House , Lakeside, Reading, Bradford Good luck to the Diamonds for 2020. Can't afford another team lost to the History books.18 points

Now that the full team has been revealed, personally I would just like to go on record and say a massive thank you to every single member of the new promotion team, and Rob the new owner, for getting this show on the road for 2020. The future of Newcastle speedway was clearly in doubt just a matter of several weeks ago, and your combined efforts have made sure that Sunday evenings will continue at Brough well into the forseeable future we hope. The team already has its detractors and some who would detract from the drama of last night's Christmas party, but I'm sure the genuine supporters will come along and support this team even if we have to hold our breath in heats 13 and 15. I think we could well surprise one or two!10 points

Better signings with the future in mind, than journeymen who have been around for years just going through the motions, you can bet these guys will give it 100%.Worth the gamble IMO.9 points

How fickle some fans are,Dam if you do and dam if you do not. Also do not forget injuries play a part in most teams season.Well done the promotion and hopefully a good season and a mid table position would be a good start for future years.6 points

If you look at the styles of both riders in some of their clips they can certainly ride big tracks. In most of their rides they are last, but only just and the opposition are usually world class and sometimes GP quality. The Czech rides the big tracks very tight which is a good sign, and George Stancl, who I believe will be in the pits with his fellow countryman, has said he can ride tight tracks very well. OIven where they are now, and who they regularly ride with, I don't see them being on 5 very long. Same goes for James W, who still rides grass tracks very well, and once he gets back to regular riding will not be at reserve for very long. That would be good news, but it would also use Rider of the Year Max to go down to reserve again and that will makes us about the strongest team in depth, with heats 13 ad 15 being our only weakness. It's great, and our history to bring on foreign riders bring them on for eventually to the world stage. As Fromafar has said above, we could've been stuck with riders getting on season after season, but it's more exciting that you know you are developing riders and watch them grow as riders. We already have that success with the Gems team, so why not for the DIamonds as well again. Breeding 4 World Champions has been very satisfying in the past, so let's see what we can do with our two latest riders. Great night tonight, the PTE was packed out with several new fans amongst us, along with a nearly sober team manager and owner who also supplied the buffet on offer. Things are looking good, and there is currently a great anticipation with the return of the DIamonds and everything that is happening at the moment. I thing most people would just like the season to start now. How things change Eh.6 points

League speedway produces at least fifteen moments of excitement in the starts and maybe another six on track. Most football matches provide fewer.5 points

http://As a Bears supporter, I am pleased you have a team still in the league and for you to support, look forward to our meetings in 2020.5 points

most sports are the same, take football, the most watched sport on TV, Keeper passes the ball to one of his defenders then the ball is passed across the field, then back, then back across again eventually arriving back at the keeper who passed it out in the first place. If and when a goal is scored that's what it's all about, so a 1-0 win gives seconds of excitement the rest is expectation and boredom.5 points
-
Very poor. 2 new riders to the league and another who hasn't done shale consistently for 6 years. No number 1. No 2nd heatleader. Main thing is that Newcastle are still alive, though. It's a team and that's better than nothing.5 points

Well it's a forum, so I guess they can add their views on any thread they like. You and other Poole fans are commenting on Prem threads, but your are CL. Is that not the same.4 points

I think that you and your fellow village idiot RedcarRacer, could be in for a few surprise this year, and we have 2 points up our sleeves just in case.4 points

Well it's a vastly different looking team and , as most of us know very little about the new guys, it will be interesting to see how they get on. A few weeks ago there was the real prospect of no speedway on Tyneside and now they have a lot of new riders to look forward to watching. Look forward to seeing how they perform.4 points

Do yourself a favour and get off our thread with your abusive language. Otherwise you will face another holiday.3 points

OK to start on the negatives - at this moment in time virtually everyone's predictions will have the Diamonds finishing bottom of the league, and I can see many defeats to start the season off with. However positives - as others have said there will be speedway at Newcastle in 2020,and from Granty's comments for a number of years afterwards. The team which has been put together does have potential for improvement with several riders able to have substantial increases in averages, whether they will is the big question. If the new guys, who I assume will be assets, get a full season in then they should be good for 2021 and I fully expect diamonds to be much more competitive later in season. Bottom line is enjoy your speedway and support the new promotion - hope it goes well - as I have often pointed out it is to the benefit of Redcar and Newcastle for both to have strong teams, as was clearly demonstrated by last season's cup final. Merry Christmas to all up in Geordieland3 points

This is what always seems tro happen. They get their plans through by agreeing certain conditions , get their building done, and forget the bit that doesn't make them any cash. Swindon Speedway Stadium seems to be a perfect example of this situation.3 points

Hoping for the best. For too long now developers have been " railroading through" their plans using very dubious tactics & it would make a very pleasant change to see them fail in this particular case.3 points

I remember Nicki P, Ken Bjerre, kenny Larsen and Rene Bach all being relatively unknown when they came to Ncstle and look how they finished up so who knows these lads could do the same3 points

Well done Rob Grant in the 4/5 weeks or so you've had and the riders that were left/avaiable and wanted to ride for Newcastle Diamonds . Not the strongest on paper by any means but lets get behind them and support them, a bet next season we will be quicker of the mark with our 1 to 7 . GOOD LUCK THE DIAMONDS3 points

There always one negative comment and usually from you. Each year this promotion have made improvements on this site at least they are trying to improve the fans experience on race nights. Look back and see what the previous strong teams on paper have done, not always what was ecpected of them.. We have still got speedway in Berwick ,on a positive note if you attend you will see the other teams racing in Berwick anyway.2 points

Surprised that Newcastle have brought two new riders in to complete their team but both, especially Skorja, are at an age where their best days should still be infront of them.2 points

Gavin keep cool.Chill out. Yes you are totally entitled to your opinions but others are equally entitled to theirs. Please don’t think either you or them are correct. Only time will tell and no matter any of your thoughts who knows who is correct. Anyway, just enjoy the time of year and Peace on Earth and on this forum. Happy Christmas.2 points

Have to chuckle when people defend the seven and then in the same breath say that we've got two points to play with to make changes! There's no point in trying to deny that a team that's two points under the limit, doesn't have a #1 and will struggle in heat 13 and 15 is going to struggle. But at least it's an interesting team with same potential to improve. Who knows if James Wright can recapture his former form? Or if Connor Mountain will have a break through season? Or if Nik Skorja is a top talent (World U-21's in 2019 (scoring 7,2,2) which only Lambert from the Brits qualified for). Or if THJ has self esteem issues? Who knows? What it does show is that the new owner is prepared to take a gamble. Let's hope it pays off.2 points

Lemo said bjerre cant commit to start of season.. And if bjerre got injured it wouldnt leave us in any more mess than any other rider already in team getting injured. KK can be quality when hes up for it and is also former track record holder but going by the comments he has already said that he has nothing to gain from riding in UK and doesnt really interest him. Id rather be slightly under points limit and have a rider giving 100% than have a KK that cant be arsed2 points

It’s a gamble but we really don’t appear to have much option. As with any gamble there is a potential upside as well as the downside that everyone is quick to jump on. Who is to say these two lads won’t average 7 on a speedway track? Hopeful as always and will attend as always.2 points

As someone says, the 'new' riders will give it 100% every race, unlike some of last seasons team. Diamonds fans will appreciate that. There is a massive potential in that team to improve averages, Ondrej. Nick, James and Max alone might put 1, 2 or 3 points on their starting averages, which is what Rob wants, average improving riders. Some are saying it's a poor team (one can't even spell rubbish correctly), without even seeing some of the riders ride, which is laughable in my view. I reckon we are going to surprise a few people next year, yes there a few 'if's' involved, but it only needs one or two of those 'if's' to fall in to place and that is not an impossibility.2 points

rubbishe team. Simple as that! You get nowhere without proven heatleaders. Tsunami saying it’s decent apart from heat 13/15 is laughable. He’s been around speedway long enough to know those are the ones that count. Has he forgotten the cup final2 points

That was obviously a failed attempt at humour, on my part, based on a misspelled word Seriously.... I'll say this to my Poole friends. My history (continuously since 1970) is with the Bees. We were, for many years, the one team that all the top riders wanted to be with. And we had our share of success (even over Poole!). I am, of course, heart broken that the Bees are not (currently) racing and their beloved home lies empty and rusting. But there is always a way. For a real fanatic there are still clubs out there racing. For me it meant putting aside my feelings for the auld enemy and supporting Leicester. Not only that, I had to accept racing in the second tier. For sure there was some justification (excuses) in that Leicester had borrowed a few of our own. But the reality is that I quickly formed allegiances with individual riders (not just the former Bees) and I looked forward to my weekly fix with enthusiasm. Moreover, I became an enthusiastic supporter of racing at the third tier. Oh, I know what you're thinking. It's easy to support two (new) teams when they winning everything. And yes, that was a factor. But despite my pride in the Bees, during the past 50 years there have been some dark times when we couldn't win a fight. I can tell you, for a fan with a long history of following and watching racing at the highest level, racing in the Championship is a joy. The commitment of the riders and their management is no less and the spirit is good. So I'm now a genuine Leicester supporter with some real loyalty for the club(s)....... until the Bees come back2 points

The reason was planning consent. There were a number of residents objecting to the application for permanent consent for the Monarchs, so to give strength to that application John Campbell pulled the plug. The application was successful and consent was given. It was the sensible thing to do. I think if it hadn't been for that John would have kept going even although crowds weren't great.2 points

Not necessarily. For years now the GPs have been uploaded onto YouTube, which you can watch on a smart TV., and usually on there by late evening. Therefore, don't look at the result then watch it as a 'live' performance the following day. No ads either.1 point

I agree. I don't know much about Greyhound racing but once the PC animal rights brigade eventually succeed in getting it eradicated in the UK they will move their attention to Horse Racing and that is when these crazed extremists will come undone. Horse racing in the USA is not the same as the rest of the World. In the US, horse racing is primarily a gambling business. You will notice all the racetracks are identical and it's more about the speed of the horse (more about this can be read in Frankie Dettori's autobiography). In the rest of the World racing is big big business worth billions of pounds. You will notice that it is highly influenced by rich arabs. Once these animal rights loons start targeting horse racing here and in Europe my guess is their ring leaders will "get a visit in the night" or go missing.1 point

THJ was not the one to "let the cat out of the bag". Yes, he gave us a story with anagrams incorporated of the riders, but it was another poster that solved the puzzle.1 point

On paper you have to say the the Diamonds are looking like they are in for a hammering this season. But you have to remember they were late with team building and gave every other team a head start in team building. At Sheffield we went through a similar problem with the new promotion and we pieced together a team from what riders were left. Hopefully fans will be understand and stick with the team this year and judge the Promotion on their team building next season where they will start on an even playing field.1 point

from an exiled reading fan I would be delighted to have a side to watch every week, win or lose, team looks very poor but you never know1 point

You can't get a lot stronger with all 3 heat leaders being Number 1's in their respective 2019 teams and also riding Premiership!!1 point

Piffle At Birmingham in 2018 we had Tom Bacon / James Shanes / Danyon Hume with likes of Sheldon Davies and Aaron Butcher. Were you there then??? I don't think anyone of right mind would argue that is a MUCH bigger disparity than anything at Plymouth next season (Bowtell/Stoneman and Atkins nowhere near ability of Bacon/Shanes/Hume) with same 2 reserves who are probably better now than in 2018; in what many argue was the high point of the NL with 5-6 excellent Teams in 2018.1 point

Just making a point Steve. I dont know why the hell they are talking about Hampel. One reason why i dont post much now. Most talk rubbishe and you have far to many wind up merchants on here now. Who were cracking there teeth on rusks when we started going. If they were thought of at all.1 point

I think you are jumping to conclusions! Poole will find the loopholes in the rule book but that is open to every team in the league. As one top stock car driver has on the back of his car "Second place is first loser!" I would just remind you what a lot of people said about Ipswich this time last year and about Workington around twelve months earlier. Newcastle may not have the best team on paper but races are won on the dirt not on paper! EDIT:- I must remember in future to quote what I am answering so that when the original comment is edited it does not make my comment meaningless! Looks like the person who started the thread can't stand by his comments so I won't bother making any further comments on what he says.1 point
