  5. You’re constantly going on about huge names, you wasn’t even running 2 weeks ago, just be thankful to actually have an owner and stop expecting the world from them when they’ve just taken over.

  6. Gollob and Hampel both sign for Ipswich because the track was tight and tricky and they recognised that would be a massive help in their development. That said it was the old Foxhall track.

  8. If you can’t respect the posters and just keep giving insults and name calling just jog on and stop posting it’s getting boring. We are talking about the Ipswich team or lack of at the moment and you are adding nothing to it

  10. Connor Mountain will make someone a good signing in the Championship. This Poole thread is a good read for a change, shame about the name calling though.

  13. Not sure what's so hilarious when a Premier League side have just been promoted and signed Nicki Pedersen. Lindgren to Wolves would be quite unsurprising by comparison.

  15. Vic Eastwood, the very successful scrambles/moto X rider passed away on Sunday. You may say what has Vic's passing got to do with speedway, well, probably not much, but he did race machines which had Hagon frames. I did buy a bike from him once, at his shop and was a gentleman to deal with. RIP.

  19. I don’t believe a >12 average is a bar per se, but it would be a big chunk of the team total

  32. Rene Bach (7.19 CL in 2018, converts to 4.49) He would be a very good reserve.

  33. Lindgren has hardly got a busy schedule, at the moment he's only committed to Gp's and Poland

  34. Top flight racing on a Saturday night, did pull in very good crowds at Rye. A lot of those were not present when the Rockets were in the middle tier. The crowds had really dropped off during Len's last season at Hoddesdon. 'Big' names can still attract the fans, if the race night is favourable.

  36. If we do it’s a totally uninspiring line up because when the big heats come up we will get done over because we have no-big hitters

  37. How is it missing the point? Belle Vue had Fricke, Kings Lynn had Lambert and both teams failed to make the play offs. A strange world if ‘having ambition’ means you sign a true number one and then fail to make the play offs. Ambition to make the play off and Final? Ipswich delivered. We don’t know if Ipswich have or haven’t landed a number one yet anyway.

  38. In truth there is no argument. Todd is better at Sheffield than Auty, as proven by stats. Only someone who has no knowledge of the CL would argue different.

  39. I can remember Terry riding in the 1989 Briggo German legends meeting and in one ride giving Penhall a real race .He still looked quick and smooth a great rider and a great embassador for our sport.

  40. Remember Ipswich speedway is a stand alone business. It’s not a tax avoidance toy like some teams maybe. if the figures don’t stack up at the end of the season it will not continue. of course I want a winning team but not at all costs. Because once gone it’s difficult to get back. Rye house lakeside and Workington etc

  42. Yes, I can think of a few. Chris Harris in particular springs to mind, he is always prepared ready to take a booking at the drop of a hat if it’s possible to get there in time. He’s a professional rider working in a professional way.

  43. Remember Tom Leadbitter also competing on the TV in those days. The days of 'Grandstand' and 'World of Sport'.

  45. I watch a lot of 'old league Speedway' on YouTube, mainly from the eighties, and a hell of a lot of it is pretty garbage to be honest. Even allowing for the one camera, independent, straight to video coverage of the time.. The main differences to today when it's garbage is that back then the crowds were bigger so the atmosphere was there, and riders were mainly part time and hadn't spent fortunes on machinery to take part, so didn't expect/need big money to compete.. Nowadays you get pretty mediocre racing, interspersed with the odd great race.. Just the same as happened back then.. Definitely worth watching a few YouTube League meetings from the eighties and nineties if you have an hour to kill.. Pretty poor fair in the main and definitely not too dissimilar to what we get today at most tracks..

  46. A very good scrambler (as it was in those days). Used to watch him when scrambling was a feature on Saturday afternoon TV. Dave Bickers, Jeff Smith, then they brought Torsten Holman and Rolf Tiblin (names if I remember right). Great stuff. Another good in bites the dust.

  48. Interesting Rebel1...Your Speedway history is very similar to my own...Although I did not start at Rayleigh...West Ham, Lakeside and now Kent. It will be interesting to see if our view of current Speedway is similar. I think the signing of Scott Nicholls was a master stroke.
