  4. I wonder what annual payments Poole make to these riders year on year, the assets system is complete and utter bo-locks and should be scrapped. Even more a mockery when a riders only makes a handful of appearances then becomes an asset then 25 years later that club gets a loan fee

  5. Lewis Kerr it is then. Can't say i am really overwhelmed by that.He has to be at reserve if not he is totally lost in the 1-5.Needs to up his game massively next season especially away from home.

  6. He deserves all the support in the world. Put his money in and going to give it his best shot. Hope it all works out for him and the supporters get behind him which I'm sure they will.

  7. For me, it's about value in the average, the likelihood to increase to it and riding position in the team. I like Lewis and have nothing but respect for him to even get back on a bike, nevermind race in the top league. However I don't see him getting a big increase in his average, especially if he's in the top 5. Proctor on the otherhand, on 4.42 I could see adding a point to his average, especially if he starts at reserve. He never should have been asked to be 2nd heatleader for us last season. Build a team that can add around 4 points plus to it's starting average and you've got a chance to get somewhere.

  11. Can we go back to the CL please? Fans were much nicer Auty = a decent rider on his day, but has bugger all to do with Sheffield anymore, so I’m at a loss as to why we seem to have pages discussing him, or why there is so much unnecessary abuse. Think there are a couple of people on here who need to take their handbags outside or just chill the hell out!!

  14. Sometime ago I went through the same argument with Sidney regarding Kyle Howarth and Josh Auty. I produced lots of facts and figures why I thought Kyle had done better with his career than Josh. The only thing that he could come back on was one off British Finals. After so long I realised that did matter what I said or what evidence I produced he was having none of it. Eventually I decided like I always do in these situations to leave at that. Maybe he should ask Rosco to sign him for Swindon, which would make Sidney's day.

  16. Nailed it. The sport needs to decide what it wants as a long term. If it is to have a higher standard at top domestic and world level then it needs to be a higher standard throughout, expecting a reduced level NL to be a viable stepping stone to s strong CL & PL is just madness. There already riders in the NL that should be dev leagues only and likewise dev league riders that should be amateur scene only. If the demand is for an inclusive sport that is open to all abilities then fine but i don't here many fans calling for that.

  18. On that average somebody will take the risk and he will probably improve on it quite a bit, it was only the season before last that he averaged 6 something and was a major part of Lynn finishing clear top of the table. I just think we need some freshness in the 2020 team which means two or three changes.

  19. Actually it's not but a week of announcements about announcements culminates in the announcement of a reserve (or that's what most people think). At the very least I would have expected one of the top 2 possibly 3 riders but as I only watch occasionally from afar my opinion will be dismissed. just seems to me in this social media obsessed world Lynn are about 2 decades out of date. Glasgow seem to have it right

  28. Sid, I do remember you once telling me and everybody on this forum that Auty was a better rider than Howarth! Wells, has no doubt gone backwards but, in general, he used to be competitive as a Premiership second string and at Swindon would pop out and win the odd race. The same cannot be said of Auty. I’m not sure why you are always in Auty’s corner. Wells has slipped, most definitely, however, he still turned in a match winning performance from reserve against Swindon at Awalton not so long back. Auty has never, ever done anything like that at Premiership level. I’d even have Stevie Wonder at reserve instead of Auty.

  29. Taken from the Bears website re the league structure and fixture format :- With the good news being announced this week that Newcastle will remain in the Championship League next year, we can now confirm the league structure for 2020.There will be 12 teams in the Championship, with each team racing 32 league fixtures. Every team will race each other once home and away, with the 6 ‘northern’ clubs racing each other again, as will the 6 ‘southern’ clubs. This will give each Championship club 16 league fixtures at home, with the points scored at each meeting being added to the ONE league table, where the TOP 6 will qualify for the play offs. If Newcastle had not come to the tapes in 2020, the 11 team league would have been split into 2, with the top 3 from each group progressing to the play offs.We can also confirm that there will now be no Championship Shield, which would have taken place if there were only 11 teams in the Championship. This leaves each Championship team with 16 guaranteed home fixtures and at least 1 KOC fixture.

  30. The national league has hardly enough fans now..It would be crazy to reduce the standard......Youngsters can learn from the older riders in the teams,,and it is so important, there is this level to bring them on,to the point they can progress to the higher levels

  32. I think Ty would be the first to admit 2019 didn't go the way anyone had hoped, but he didn't drop to reserve for either us or Peterborough. As someone said previously, one of the keys to success in league Speedway is signing riders who will up their average - There is no doubt in my mind that Ty will increase his in 2020.

  35. I think those who've seen him round Owlerton would understand. He just seems to have a really knack for riding Owlerton. With Auty, he's just never particularly good round our place over last few seasons. Whether that's down to how the tracks preprared, machinery ect I don't honestly know. But all I can say is from the perspective of a Sheffield fan having watched Auty and Berge round our place I would 100% have Dimi over Auty.

  36. Statement from Heathens Speedway Supporters Trust. As you now know, Cradley Heathens will not be running next year. This is very disappointing for everyone but as a Trust Board we understand the reasoning behind the decision. We have been contacted and asked why the Trust haven’t stepped in so that Cradley can ride again next year. If only life was as simple as some people believe. As we said in our last statement, we haven’t been sitting idle; we have in fact been busy collecting facts. That’s facts with evidence that we’ve seen with our own eyes and not just gossip or theories. ▶ Don’t Ladbrokes want the extra revenue? Monmore Green can only be used logistically once a week for speedway. The truth is that Ladbrokes can make substantial staging payments by running dog racing in an almost empty stadium because of streaming it by satellite to different countries and the money they can make from betting. They don’t need the extra revenue from running speedway on an extra night. This is a fact as much as people don’t agree with it. Depending on how the National League (or whatever format it will take in the future) runs and how many teams are in the league we would need enough race nights to complete the season. With Wolves meetings, cup competitions and play offs there wouldn’t potentially be enough dates at Monmore and we would therefore be in the position of either riding at Perry Barr (depending on how many dates they have available) or forfeiting any remaining meetings near the end of the season. You wouldn’t book a holiday for 21 days if you could only get accommodation for 14 days! ▶ Why can’t we run at Perry Barr? The income decreases by around 40% riding at Perry Barr because it’s harder to get to for most people. The sad fact is that fans just don’t turn up at Perry Barr. Also, we’re not guaranteed that there would be dates available there for us to race. ▶ Have you ever wondered how much it actually costs to run a speedway meeting? Monmore Green has the highest rent in the league and that rent is the same whether it’s a Cradley meeting or Wolves. Medics and referees don’t just turn up to meetings, they have to be paid. A payment has to go to the BSPA for every meeting plus insurance, riders wages, programme production, track preparation and the list goes on. ▶ Why aren’t the Trust stepping in so that we can ride next year? The answer to this is twofold. Firstly, whilst the definition of a supporters trust is a democratic, not for profit organisation of supporters who is committed to strengthening the voice of supporters in the decision making process at a club and strengthening the links between the club and the community it serves it doesn’t say that we need to hand money over to achieve this. Secondly, when the Trust was set up the objectives were set then (and they are the same objectives we use now) and that is to, in the long term, find land so that the Heathens have a home of their own and short term objectives are to continue to raise funds, have good community links and keep members informed. When HSST announced that we would be one of the sponsors for The Heathens in 2019 we came under criticism for spending the Trust money. None of the Trust money was used. The 200 Club was set up for this reason and this is the only money that has been used (as the accounts at the AGM will show). So why now would we spend the Trust money (where the majority came from the work done by HSSC) and have none left if land were to be found. Two representative from the Board sat down with Chris Van Straaten and Nigel Pearson and had a very open conversation. We talked through the pros and cons of what was involved in running a team next year including all the hidden costs that no one thinks about. For example, did you know that it can cost anything from £250 - £1500 for a rained off meeting? If a meeting is rained off there are still certain outgoings that still have to be paid. At the end of day it didn’t come down to money, it came down to logistics. How many dates were available, how many meetings would we have, what would we do if we couldn’t ride all our meetings at Monmore and what riders would be available to make up a team for next year. Teams who have their own tracks can be way ahead of the game because they can dictate when they ride and how many times they can ride in a week. Sharing a track means that we have to wait and are constantly struggling to find riders to make up a reasonable team. Contrary to what some people have said, there is nothing up for sale because there is nothing to sell! We can have the Cradley name whenever we want it - we don’t have to pay for it so there is nothing for the Trust to buy. We will have the draw for the December 200 Club and then we will have a meeting with all 200 Club members sometime in Januay. HSST Board

  37. The problem is Brian, immediately above the National League is a bottleneck, Championship Clubs on the whole prefer to have none UK riders in there Teams, so therefore the 9/10 point have nowhere to go except to drift out of the sport, as an example let me give you a couple of riders who you are familiar with, Tom Perry he is a British rider that can be exciting to watch but he is a classic example of nowhere to go, because of Championship clubs preferences for Imports, then the even younger and more recent Zak Attack, he has seen the light, he attempted the move up struggled early doors and may or may not be lost to the sport, he is a classic example of whats wrong with the Sport in the UK, but the BSPA in there wisdom do nothing to halt that drift away by young riders. There needs to be a clear path to encourage these young riders to stay and progress in the Sport, its not only a National League problem its a BSPa problem and by weakening the NL it is not going to solve this issue in fact it may worsen the problem by forcing a Club to close, and then that becomes an even bigger problem.. However the Chairman of the BSPA believes everything for the most part is fine, nowt wrong when people cant see whats in front of them.... except for a Blind man..

  41. Lewis would be ok in the 1-5 if we had Lambert, Cook and Iversen as heat leaders with Riss as the other second string. We could then have Proctor at reserve which would leave about 3.2 for our number 7. Looking at Swindon’s team last year and this I don’t think it’s as important to have big scoring reserves.

  42. Common error underpinning your post. The Thom(p)sons weren't twins in the Tintin stories. One spelled his name with a "p" and one without. Why am I discussing Hergé's creation on a Berwick thread?

  43. So Lindgren will come back instead of Thorssell? Doubt it, as he’s been quoted as saying he’s only doing Poland. Woffinden? Nope. So who’s coming in? Or have Wolves just blundered by signing Nicol instead of Nichols? Maybe CVS misheard Pete Adams?

  44. In his case I wouldn't rule out any improvement. Charles Wright was never going to amount to anything more than a PL reserve a few years ago, he's now British champion. If Cook can manage a GP season then I reckon Wright could too.

  45. Well it doesn't need me to remind everyone that the speedway would have run 15 one minute races over a 2 hour period, whilst two Metro trams would pass the site every seven minutes from early morning until late at night, on seven days of the week Perhaps a polite letter to Andy Street the existing Mayor of the West Midlands Combined Authority might generate a bit of action? Mr Street is a former Chairman of the John Lewis Group and is well known for his encouragement of enterprise. If it isn't treading on the toes of anyone connected with Cradley who may be doing something I/we aren't aware of, I'm willing to give this a try and see what the response is.

  47. Do you think there was a profit made at Lynn this year? Or previous years for that matter? I think that there is a misconception from some that the Lynn promotion do this every year to follow a cycle, and don't want to win. In reality, there is nothing more they want than to succeed! So maybe get behind the promotion/team and actually support them, through good and bad.... Just a thought.
