This is everything that is wrong with Speedway yet time and time again the same thing happens. A supposedly prestige event ends up a scratch challenge fixture made up of whoever is left standing/can be bothered and prepared to ride on a rain sodden track, whilst the punters freeze their nuts (or equivalent) off in the bitter cold and wet. And the promoters wonder why nobody turns up. Of course it's all the fault of the weather...... I'm a supporter of 30+ years and now can't be bothered to go to a nicely poised Cup Final 2nd leg against our local rivals!!! Shambles.8 points

Rider demands need to change? It's not difficult, If you think a rider is demanding an excessive deal, don't pay it. Either they won't get a contract or if they do then that's the market rate because someone else was prepared to pay it. Blame the person prepared to pay it not the one asking for it and getting it. If they ask for an excessive amount and don't get a job because of it tough on them. Riders demands being excessive is the symptoms not the cause.8 points

Seems both promotions have moved on and seem to be working together ,pity some fan's can't do the same.4 points

The one glaring thing they don't seem to understand is that by annually undermining their very own 'flagship events', they devalue them to a level where fans then start to ask themselves "why the hell would anyone attend"? And if the Finals become so devalued then really why attend any of the qualifiers either? It actually suggests that those who run the sport dont take it too seriously themselves, so lets face it, if those who run the sport don't take it seriously then really why should the fans? Quite incredible how this sport is ran in the UK isn't it?3 points

shame clubs can't think about sorting track surfaces etc with tv money instead of wages, better racing will keep people happy3 points

Was this written last year and just reproduced? Or maybe the year before? Or maybe any given year over far too many years..? Cricket is another sport that relies on the weather conditions being favourable to run, therefore I am amazed they don't run all their finals in October like Speedway in the UK does.. Surely those in the ECB are missing a trick? It is truly amazing that every year the same nonsense pervades yet those who run the sport obviously see absolutely nothing wrong with it.... Maybe seeing all those growing empty spaces on the terraces will one day start to finally give them a clue. .?2 points

It will be fantastic to welcome Plymouth back to the Championship I hope this happens and the fans turn out to support the team.2 points

I’m not home at the minute but I definitely wouldn’t be going if I was! Sargeant as a guest I’d rather use Josh Embleton and give him the experience Ahh and well done Redcar on winning the cup.2 points

Redcar guest Ben Barker last visit to Brough 17 points Sarj 1 point from 4 rides... was Kyle Newman not available.. Honestly am getting fed up with this... just give Redcar the cup now to save the embarrassment... A knocked back Wolves tickets but a think it will be watch the football team show themselves up first in the pub and depending on how much drink a get through this could be the first meeting I will have missed at Brough since October 31st 2010 and a still managed to see the last heat of that meeting... Regards THJ Oh and the report on the web site has Sarj down as a Tiger rather that a Monarch which is the last thing Glasgow will want the blame for knowing how delicate they are at present...2 points

It is a simple fact that the majority of immigrants over the centuries have been poor, so have no other choice but to find cheap accommodation, hopefully near the chance of a job. Dock land areas have tended to be those areas, not only in London or the UK, but around the world. They are then the areas that have had poor standards of living and health and high levels of crime. But they have mainly hosted a majority of people who want to better their lives and especially the chance for their children. And when they have the opportunity move to a better area. This leaving a place for a new generation and so the circle goes on, just the faces change Bottom line in all of this, is Split had a great career at a high point in speedways history. He should have been made for life, with no need to enter crime. He wasn’t at the bottom of the ladder by any means I would also say the life you choose is very much your own decision, just like the words you choose. Bobbath made his own strange decision and you can’t just use a get out that ‘others’ use it as well.2 points

This is an extract from my book, "Cracked Eggs and Chicken Soup", based on my dad's memoirs of the East End of London in the 20s and 30s, and shows what happens when racial groups are stereotyped. Luckily there were enough "politically correct" people to put a stop to it at the Battle of Cable Street: "The mid-1930s became a very scary time for us Jews living around Bethnal Green and Whitechapel as the Blackshirts began to randomly attack Jews on the streets and smash the windows of Jewish shops. It was very unwise to go out on your own, especially after dark, so we normally hung around in threes or fours, came home from the pub together and so on. Mum and Dad were continually warning us not to go out alone and, above all, to make sure Julie was kept safe. They were worried sick about what some of those vile Blackshirt bastards might do to her if they caught her alone. So we never let Julie go out anywhere on her own. We’d go with her to work and take her out to meet her friends and make sure we were there when she wanted to come home. There was a very intimidating and menacing atmosphere abroad at the time and, as Jews, we knew we were the number one targets."2 points

Bin the averages let teams sign who they want lets try it for a season or two . Don t think theirs a team in Britain that could afford for example woffy smarzlik Emil Doyle laguta all in one team . Speedway in Britain must be the only sport where if you win the league you are punished and have to break up a winning side2 points

I say go for it move up Seriously though, Glasgow have the financial backing and facilities, advertising/promotion to move to the top tier . I don't think it would affect the crowds tbh, no disrespect to the riders but Sam Jenson/Anderson never lit up the stage yet according to the info on here crowds were up so you add more top riders to the team can only benefit can it not ? Televised meetings too , could be a very attractive package , more so too for fans like us with no team, think you could see plenty having trips up to watch Glasgow ride against the likes of Doyle, Fricke & co Now enough of being nice .....I need a lie down see Bagpuss you've brought out the classy side of me2 points

The editor or photo editor still has a lot to say about the pics. It’s called Lightroom. Plenty of your reasonably good pics have been turned explicit over the years using Lightroom...1 point

As their purpose is to keep sharp pieces of shale off the greyhound track, I can't imagine that getting them filthy by using them as track covers would meet with much favour....1 point

Philip Rising said on this thread that Lindgren will not be riding in Sweden, that he wants to concentrate on the World Championship and that he will only ride in one league. I think it safe to say that will be Poland and therefore that he will not be riding in the UK and that the information must have come from Lindgren or a reliable source close to him. otherwise, I very much doubt that Philip Rising would have put what he did on here.1 point

Is that the similar feeling to when you thought KL were going to win something??! As far as not hearing anything since, Danny Ford has been quoted in the local press that team plans are well under way and we're all looking forward to the new challenges in the Championship!1 point

Yes, the fair is in the Car Park. Priority for parking will be given to BLUE BADGE HOLDERS, to get them as near to the Turnstiles as possible. Supporters are then advised to use the overflow car park (the one on the left as you drive in). Once that is full, then once again please use the Home Bargains car park just up from the stadium (right hand side as you drive down the Fossway, left hand side as you drive up towards Byker). Hope this helps.1 point

May be unfair to point blame at the Club but more the Media Partner of the Club Have had cause to bemoan similar at Birmingham this season, same provider!!!. I think that provider was once excellent but now comes over as complacent and lazy. Those Clubs with their own provision like Glasgow / Edinburgh / Berwick / Eastbourne seem to be way ahead in innovation and content.1 point

Unpopular opinion. Leicester won the league. Well done them. But they cherry picked guests for each track most of season..... should they have been made to replace richie worrall????1 point

This move is perfect for a none attending Speedway fan like me. Certainly won't be watching any meetings live and will just watch the highlights. Most TV meeting are abysmal and a drain to watch live with significant numbers switching off before a meeting is finished as they're so bad. If a high number of Pole's do decide to check out what the fuss is all about, it will be a very embarrassing moment for British Speedway imo.1 point

I hope for Redcar and speedways sake that that isn't true. He's made a massive difference at Redcar over the last few seasons and is one of the best in the country , irreplaceable!1 point

Honestly Good luck to Sheffield Berwick definitely are not going up Finally why would Kent go up? cant start until 6.30 with an 8.30 curfew!!! two tape infringements and the extra track grading required to keep the "prima donnas" happy and most meetings will be abandoned by heat 8 with no result declared or standing CVS shouldn't have said anything its not his right to say what other clubs might or might not be doing (Naughty Man) Regards THJ1 point

It almost played out as though one vastly experienced team manager made sure his team had cool heads and didn't do anything stupid, whilst another less experienced "fan" whipped his boys up into making rash decisions, throwing away points and applying no pressure. I don't think Leicester felt under any real pressure till that 5:1 went in in heat 13, yet had Glasgow clawed back 6 points after the first 4/5 heats, the pressure would have been on, then who knows what could have happened. Much credit due to SD I think1 point

I'd disagree with that, everybody I know races hardest against their mates and hates being beaten by them. You only have to look at GP's where team mates and best friends will stuff each other against the fence without a second thought. I don't see Speedway surviving as an individual sport if it is to attract spectators. Only way that can happen is at an amateur level where the riders pay an entry and the club profits from that. It's easy to watch the videos of fast Fridays from California and think Speedway is doing really well there but it's a couple of thousand people from a massive catchment area who turn up for a party. You couldn't do the same in the UK I don't believe, in fact I bet you couldn't do the same elsewhere in California on a regular basis. Speedway in the UK is a team sport and suffers greatly from having to rent stadiums. I have no idea what would be the best way to move forward, I suspect costs will continue to have to be reduced until we have a big Championship league at a level a little lower than now. Maybe then a few tracks could run individual meetings by bringing top riders over as they could only be seen once in a blue moon. Some decades ago that was the case when a big individual would be your only opportunity to see 8 or 10 really top class riders in the same meeting apart from a World Final. Nowadays you can see 16 of the best from your sofa several times a year.1 point

Thanks very much to Racers & Royals for keeping us all updated with this thread, been a brilliant source for checking out the coming week's tv and internet coverage, most of which I would not have been able to find if it weren't for the links provided in other threads (international section), invaluable! Thanks again Tim, very much appreciated.1 point
