  1. We've had that type of thing all season . The track has produced the best speedway we've seen in many a year . Ok it would have been nice to have silverware at the end of the season , apart from the Pairs , but the entertainment has more that made up for the lack of trophys.

  2. I agree with this but then if the riders are really good they get an average which often rules them out of the team a couple of seasons later. I am happy for Swindon to bring on good riders but not for them to then go to other teams or even abroad. In the past we have had to lose Batch for a season and Kildemand because of the team limits, and if the one over the eight rule is kept we are likely to lose Batch again, who has been great this season. Both the fans and the riders get fed up with good Swindon riders leaving the club and although not the only reason the fans and youngsters may well be put off from attending after following then losing their favorite rider. It could also put off sponsors from supporting an individual rider.

  5. I see the weakest clubs in speedway continuing to dictate terms to the BSPA. I suspect there isn’t many, if any, clubs that hasn’t had their fan base seriously eroded over the last 10 years. Speedway in the UK continues to erode the quality every year, yet, apparently using lower averages each year, which in theory makes the costs more sustainable. Can anyone tell me how many clubs have made a profit in the last 10 years, and evidence to support this? Surely, if you are cutting your cloth every year because you are addressing cost issues but you are not breaking even or making a profit then the business model you are using does not work! Speedway clubs are like lemmings. They continue to move to the cliff edge and the day when they go over the edge isn’t far away.

  6. I say go for it move up Seriously though, Glasgow have the financial backing and facilities, advertising/promotion to move to the top tier . I don't think it would affect the crowds tbh, no disrespect to the riders but Sam Jenson/Anderson never lit up the stage yet according to the info on here crowds were up so you add more top riders to the team can only benefit can it not ? Televised meetings too , could be a very attractive package , more so too for fans like us with no team, think you could see plenty having trips up to watch Glasgow ride against the likes of Doyle, Fricke & co Now enough of being nice .....I need a lie down see Bagpuss you've brought out the classy side of me

  9. No one is alluding to overpaid superstars being included. Surely supporters want to see Fred, Tai and JD? I would suspect that any respectable UK speedway fan would much prefer a team of top notch British talent coming through but there has to be a pathway for the talent to surface. We had the reserves position designated for British talent but as per usual there were certain teams that took the proverbial and this was disbanded. For the record, I enjoyed seeing both Steve Worrall and Chas Wright develop from Swindon reserves in to decent speedway riders, however, in any sport you also want to see the best talent on show. Weakening the product with no clear pathway for UK riders to flourish and keeping averages artificially low to try and force the top riders away is just ridiculous. The promoters have to bite the bullet to reverse the trend so the sport grows. It is not something that is going to happen overnight and this has to be long term goal. Weakening the product just to keep costs down would be fine but no one has made a profit on the back of the averages being kept low, so the model that some promoters want does not not work. I wonder what the Peterborough promotion lost this year, given that they had no stars in their line up? Therefore, change the record and let’s try something different. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

  10. 7 other teams derrrrrrr 8 is still not enough. I actually put in my email to MF, if 10-12 teams were in the PL then fine, stay. Nothing personal DC but seeing Swindon 3 times a season at home, is a bit bloomin' boring!

  11. Can't see why we would want to move up no local derbies, fixed race nights , increased costs, more negatives than positives as far as i can see.
    2 points
  12. The simple fact is that regardless of how much we might want to improve the strength of teams in the PL there are not the riders or the money to allow every team to build to 46.34. The average this year, as it is every year was close to the inevitable 42.5 at 42.43. Teams struggled last season to find replacements because all of the suitable replacements in the CL had been used and foreign riders were either unwilling to come or unaffordable. It will be impossible for every team effectively to to find riders to add 4 points to the existing average team total. Even more so if any more teams decide to join the PL. In fact increasing to 46+ will deter any others from joining.

  13. So....a couple of rumours doing the rounds about Glasgow possibly considering moving up to the Premier League. Personally, I have never been keen on the idea but I suppose it would depend on the amount of teams there were and whether it would benefit the club from the management’s viewpoint. Apart from the likes of Fricke, Doyle and Batchelor and to a lesser extent Musielak and Lambert, there’s no one in that league who would make me yearn to be part of it compared to the Championship. What are people’s thoughts?

  19. Some stats issued by the Extraleague- Google translation Over 48 million video plays in media cooperation with WP Sportowe Fakty, 12 million TV viewership of all events related to PGE Ekstraliga in nSport + and ELEVEN SPORTS, as well as the aggregate attendance at stadiums amounting to almost 700 thousand. viewers. These are PGE Ekstraliga records from the recently completed season 2019. Although before the season there was a lot of voices that playing matches on Friday dates, and above all TV broadcasts on two channels from all 64 matches, will not cause development, it turned out that the best speedway league in the world flourished and reached a very wide spectrum of fans. On nSport + and ELEVEN SPORTS TV, not only LIVE broadcasts from matches were watched, but also other programs preceding the league queues and summaries. Together, this gave an impressive result to over 12,288,270 viewers LIVE broadcast records at nSport + in the 2019 season: WROZIE (14/04/2019) 206,772 ZIEGOR (28/07/2019) 203,859 POLISH (02/06/2019) 203,488 LIVE broadcast records at ELEVEN SPORTS in the 2019 season: WROLUB (31/05/2019) 188,475 ZIEGRU (26/04/2019) 136,790 GRULUB (23/08/2019) 131,775 The best viewed PGE Ekstraliga Magazine (LIVE on nSport +) was the issue of 11/08/2019 with a viewership rate of nearly 90 thousand. viewers. In cooperation with Wirtualna Polska Sportowe Fakty, the "Without Brake" program, run by Dariusz Ostafiński and Jarosław Galewski, recorded 8,161,147 plays (21 LIVE magazines) on the internet. The great added value of "Without Brakes" was the fact that it could be viewed directly on the homepage of Wirtualna Polska (wp.pl). In total, until October 1, 2019, in cooperation with PGE Ekstraliga and Wirtualna Polska, 389 video materials were broadcast regarding the games of the best speedway league in the world. Invariably, PGE Ekstraliga games were very popular directly at stadiums. A total of 692,129 spectators watched 64 matches of the last season. This gave an average of 10,815 spectators. Considering Friday's matches, 283,895 spectators watched them (9,789 on average). On Sunday, in turn, it was even better: 408,234 spectators (in total) and 11,663 (on average) In the ranking of the percentage filling stadiums at PGE Ekstralig matches, SPEED CAR Motor Lublin turned out to be the clear leader, which had a set of spectators at all matches. 20. I don't suppose you have missed me. I didn't mean it to sound as though I was knocking the subject/section. It's just that the forum creators have 'buried' 'Years Gone By' to the bottom. I was just supporting 'Kipper' for why he may not have realised the passing of Split was in another section. I didn't realise either, so was glad Kipper posted it where he did. And don't be so flipping touchy!

  21. AVERAGES are just numbers on a piece of paper. This isn't a computer game. Riders are human beings, averages go up and down. And if a team like Peterborough are 10 points adrift of the limit trying to sign one rider to fit that void isn't sensible, practical or even necessary. Their team building options increase not decrease and can enable them to work within a budget. At the very least the notion of being able to keep a team from one season to another should be elementary.

  26. It’s not. But this thread would be redundant if the promoters in this country had a brain. I want to see the best riders in this country. Others are happy with lesser riders, me I am paying £18, so I think as I am paying top dollar the best riders, that want to ride, should be here. Setting the average to the highest available average is the best way to return speedway to a level that the customer wants to see That’s not me just saying that, I am judging that by the number of missing people on the terraces.

  35. Yes, the fair is in the Car Park. Priority for parking will be given to BLUE BADGE HOLDERS, to get them as near to the Turnstiles as possible. Supporters are then advised to use the overflow car park (the one on the left as you drive in). Once that is full, then once again please use the Home Bargains car park just up from the stadium (right hand side as you drive down the Fossway, left hand side as you drive up towards Byker). Hope this helps.

  37. In relation to the the title of this thread. Every team that wins the title wants to, quite reasonably, retain their squad. Swindon are not the first, and definitely not the last, who will have to de-stengthen their squad for the following season. All very disappointing, but that's the way it is. As a Wolves fan, I have had to witness the de-strengthing on a few occasions. Unfortunately, you just have to suck it up. In my opinion no special exception should be be made for Swindon, or any other team.

  38. But the current situation is set up to punish those teams that do well and riders that improve. Where is the sense in that? I have always been perplexed by this average thing - I get the premise, but it is flawed in practice. A level playing ground at the start of the year - lovely in a disney book, but in professional sport? Rediculous. Rugby, Football, Cricket - do any of those teams have to drop their star player at the end of the year because he has scored too many points for them and helped them win the league? No chance - that guy is now their star asset. Speedway? Nah that guy now gets kicked to touch... The deeper you look, the more of an issue it becomes. Why should riders have any loyalty to these clubs when they know that doing well could cost them a job next year? Do too well and no team will sign you... So when a rider knows that doing too well could cost him his team spot next year, why should be care about the team - they clearly dont have any loyalty to him. All the "new fans" that come into the sport, develop an affinity to their team and get a favourite rider, buy the tshirt / cap and a few photos - turn up next year to see that he has been dropped because he DID WELL and now he is riding for another team? Then the same again next year? "Why has my teams best rider been dropped?"... This system of punishing teams and riders for doing well creates a situation where there is no continuity from one year to the next and is rediculous for a professional sport - especially one that is loosing support rapidly. Raising the points limit to that of the highest team allows all teams to keep their current 1-7 if the supporters (paying customers) develop affinity towards them and allows all clubs to offer longer contracts to riders which then helps develop loyalty and respect between all 3 parties (riders, clubs, customers). There is no obligation to keep your 1-7, but it gives teams the opportunity to do so. Capping the limit at the highest team of last year also means that 1 club cannot buy up all the top riders and clearly dominate. Clearly speedway does not have the money to become a football situation where money makes a team, but some level of continuity must exist to retain customers interest. I personally have no idea what I support anymore, I go to my local track because I like speedway - I have lost all interest in the team itself because it changes all the damn time, I dont care to worry who is riding because its fundamentally irellivant.

  39. I've never been bothered about calibre or ego. I just work when people ask me to and try to do my best for the sport I love. I wasn't that good or I'd still be doing it but for a while my whole life centred on helping speedway rather than myself. More fool me for trying since all you get is crap from time wasters like you and Orion. I put my love for the sport way above ego or money. You should try it instead of just being an online bore.

  41. Well done Leicester on their victory. I will disagree with the people saying they were clearly the best team over the year. Glasgow's bad luck was the factor they topped the league. Sam Jensen falling in ht 14 @ Leicester robbed us of a win there. As to the circus freaks of Workington laughing at the Tigers, it has been a pleasure giving you something to talk about over the season. There is nothing but jealousy coming from your direction towards Glasgow. The snide remarks about money etc. The Glasgow promotion are a credit to the sport, setting the benchmark for other teams to follow. Absolute professionalism. How did the Worky business model work??

  42. Nobody can surely dissagree that from a spectator and overall entertainment perspective the two legs of the Championship final were head and shoulders above that of the Premiership? Even though both Championship legs had clear winners at both meetings, the lower tier version produced far far more drama, tension and dare I say it hope on either side. A great advert for the sport and one which the large crowds definately enjoyed. Well done to both sets of riders and management for making it possible.

  43. Well done to Leicester, always good to see the team who finished top ending up as champions. Also well done to Glasgow fans for their dignity in defeat and not biting to any of the garbage posted on the thread by people whose teams were nowhere near the final, seems that jealousy will never go away.
