  1. Hopefully no. Like or loathe they promote Speedway with passion. Isn’t that what we continually crave?

  2. No title at Glasgow this year, so well done Lions on the title. Plenty digs at the "money men" not winning the title but these individuals have just served up the most entertaining season of speedway I can remember. Makes them winners too I reckon.

  3. It’ll be madness to move from fixed races nights. For example Adam Ellis has already signed in Denmark as a b rider & will be in their side. What happens if Swindon bring Him back & have clashes...ridiculous to even be considering it.

  4. Firstly can i say a huge congratulations to Leicester on their win, better team over the 2 legs and deserved their victory. Far too many last places over the 2 legs for us and ultimately it cost us. With all the early exclusions tonight I never felt like we ever built up any momentum, barely gated in a heat advantage position all night. Might of got a bit of luck in ht 6 with the Douglas exclusion, I felt that could of went either way. Heat 13 masterclass from Cook, not that we would expect any less but still simply sublime. Onto the final blow in heat 14 and what a ride from young Ellis Perks. To clinch the league in that manner, as much as it hurts us Tigers fans you can't help but doff your cap to the young man for a ride like that, absolutely fair play. Also would like to say what a show of sportsmanship from Lawlor to get the bike off the track when the Tigers were on a 5-1, really wouldn't of blamed him at all if he had stayed down to force a re run, that was a touch of class. I dunno what happened at the weekend between him and the fans down at Leicester but again I have to hold my hands up and say fair play to him for that. Looking back and noted that we gained +12 points in heat 13 & 15 over the two legs but still it wasn't enough. So if that doesn't tell you that the best 'team' won then I don't know what will. Once again congratulations Leicester and enjoy your night!

  6. 1969 the year I saw the Lions live for the first time. 2019 the year I saw the Lions win the league for the first time . 50 years! Thank you to everybody for making it happen.

  7. Thank you Stewart Dickson. Congratulations to the lions. make that 1 out of 15 trophies for the money men. Back to drawing board or the money tree for the tiggers.

  8. FROM what I hear a magazine-style highlights programme is being discussed and would be a great addition to the actual TV coverage

  9. Congratulations Leicester Lions. Your name will look good next to Workington's on 2 of this years trophies

  10. I really don't get all these race night arguments. If it's midweek which ever day it is, you gain some you lose some due to work commitments. Friday and Saturday you are more likely to get kids along so potential for bigger crowd depending on what other local attractions are on at same time, but for the top league that's a no go due to all the international meetings. So for PL fixed nights on Monday/Thursday to avoid other leagues is the way to go. Much prefer that to guests and r/r. Supporters will get used to it.

  11. IMO it would be madness to scrap 'fixed race nights' These have been approved by the FIM. Why would you risk losing riders to other leagues on days which aren't designated for GB Speedway.
    4 points
  12. Indeed but if he is getting paid enough by Wroclaw to just ride team speedway once a week then good for him. Fantastic that his kids will see plenty of him growing up.

  13. Can just see cami knickers post match interview going on about the Tigger's bad luck running into each other, , bet he is still going on about the 1 point lost last year as well !!

  14. Poor Tigger's all that money spent and nowt in trophy cabinet apart from spiders and cobwebs well done Leicester

  15. Congratulations to the Lions. Fitting that the team who have been the best team all season are the league champions.

  16. WOULD be nice if it was studio based with guests including riders, promoters, etc.

  17. As 70% of them ride in the CL, that’s no surprise! It’s the 30% of good ones that you’ll miss!

  18. Just like his Play Off record against Swindon.

  19. Sorry Mike but can’t agree with you at all -Dave Rowe in my opinion is a top commentator, who knows Speedway inside out and never misses anything happening on track and because he uses Kandysoft software is always on top of permutations, qualification etc. I have to say that Nigel Pearson and Kelvin Tatum along with Dave Goddard all do a great job- we only have to think back to Jack Burnicle to realise that !!!

  20. Winning the regular League will never mean anything while the play offs are in place.

  21. Correct, you’re not allowed to win things.

  22. I’m not so sure. Paying customers fell significantly at televised matches when the broadcast was on a pay channel (when only a proportion of fans had access to it). If a match is live on free-to-air TV I expect the crowd might suffer even more.

  23. No riders should have booked anything as they knew the season ends on the 31st.

  24. Have to disagree with you on that one under no circumstances should any object be thrown the culprit being ejected may be the least of his worries, a lifetime ban should hopefully follow . As for the wheelies the lad had just went from last to first to clinch the title personally i wouldn't begrudge him that.

  25. Congratulations to Leicester, Ellis Perks was the match winner, Glasgow rode their socks off, but it wasn't to be. The racing however was superb, if only we could have racing like that at more tracks. Again Congratulations to the Lions.

  26. Well of course they would , they were a team of mostly Ex Comets to begin with So it looks like those 12 points weren't that easy to claw back as they thought. Another year , another empty trophy cabinet , well you could try asking Jacko to become Team Manager next season and get rid of Mr Cheeseballs , maybe he could show you the way to becoming a Treble Winning Team Well done Leicester , enjoy every minute and look after our Trophies

  27. Congratulations to the Lions 12 points just proved to much to claw back as i suspected. But take nothing away from Leicester best team over the 2 legs have won the title and fair play to them fully deserved. And finally Ellis Perks take a bow what a ride in heat 14 to seal it fantastic ride young man.

  30. This is tremendous news. Sheffield are a classy outfit and should definitely be mixing it at the top with the big boys, and a return to the traditional Thursday night is also a massive plus. Now for the team .. Macdonald in my opinion may find it a bit too hot in the Premiership, as will Kennedy although out of the two I personally would love to see Zaine return. Jake Allen would be a nice addition to the team too. As for number 1 i would love it if we went all out to bring a glitzy GP rider in, and why not ? ! Very excited as I am sure the majority of Sheffield fans are.

  31. Honestly What a fantastic opportunity for Sheffield and their fans. Good luck as you head off to pastures anew. Enjoy the experience and here is wishing you all the success for the future. I will miss my visits to Owlerton but as it's only a couple of hours down the road I may be tempted down just to see the big boys ride. All the best THJ

  34. I normally get the number 24 bus from St James which has Wallsend on the front and it stops at the top of the Fossway opposite Newcastle shopping park (look for Asda)and a straight walk down to the stadium. The bus leaves opposite China town at ST James by the Irish bar on the side of Starbucks.Hope this helps.

  35. No no never call a rider rubbish but attitude shocking & the toilet job would give him a kick up the cake hole or he could maybe join the airfence team as volunteers are always welcome

  36. I’m sure they are perfectly capable of picking a team without you sticking your nose in. Welcome back to the top flight Sheffield.

  38. Don't all the teams have a company filming their meetings? If not, they should be made to.. BV's has a tremendous picture quality and could be used for a highlights package.. One of the issues with TV is how few riders actually get noticed by anyone curiously watching.. Some Premiership riders will have been on TV only once or twice this year (and maybe even not at all). Championship and NL riders don't even get a chance unless they double/treble up.. Therefore, a whole sport highlights package can only be a good thing.. Many riders will deliver some great entertainment weekly so the sport needs to get this action out to the public every week, meaning that even if the main live meeting is a bit dull, you still have a package of great, exciting racing.. The 60 second football round ups on Sky and BT concentrate on the matches goals and controversial incidents so Speedway should follow suit.. Most mundane meetings will have at least one "very good race", often by the same riders who are renowned more for passing than gating, so get this one race per meeting out there each week, and start to build individual rider profile's and reputation as racers, which can only be good for their own sponsorship as well as getting the team they ride for noticed.. Get the 'exciting' riders noticed and the teams can then build marketing on the back of their names... And five to ten minutes of passing, passing and more passing, will help dispel the "first out of the gate wins" reputation.. Throw in a bit of 'handbags' too, where it happens, and you will maybe getting those watching sitting up and taking notice..?

  39. He hasn't walked away, he has the club up for sale but won't walk away until a suitable buyer is found. Ford saved the club when it was on its knees. I am not his biggest fan when it comes to some of the things he has done over the years but it is my view the club would have gone under without him.
    2 points
  40. Poole fans have respect for Ford as if it wasn't for him we would have folded long ago, he bought the club and made it profitable, all of the clubs don't lose money every year, some have but they wouldn't exist if they lost money every year, that is why you have sponsors and if your main sponsor folds and you lose a lot from your expected budget then you have to consider other options. I am sure this decision hasn't been done lightly and i can understand why it has been done.

  41. It could indeed but at the same time you can look at it and say, well now we really have to up our game to get people to come and pay to watch it in person rather than sitting back and taking fans for granted, The whole it’s on TV debate no longer holds any water as look at the play offs finals over the years, played on a Week night, school the next day, live on TV and yet still the places have been packed out, fans will come if it matters enough and you make it come across as a must see in person event, for the rest of the campaign, it’s not and that’s why terraces are near empty.

  43. I think too much is read into who actually provides the coverage and more should be considered about what they actually get to show.. Sky, BT, and Eurosport are not 'Speedway's saviours', they are just TV companies showing the sport.. Their production capability might add weight to the racing or it might not, however.. If the racing isn't up to any great entertainment standard (as we sadly see most weeks in the UK meetings), then it doesn't matter who shows it nor how great their presentation and production skills are.. If what you are watching doesn't maintain your interest, then it doesnt matter if it's 'free to air' or not, and that can never be a positive for the sport. In fact it could work very much the other way and disconnect any potential new fans, or ex fans who may think about returning, completely.. Doesn't matter who shows the sport if it doesn't deliver on the track...

  47. That may well be the case but if you look at the sponsors and partners who are behind British Superbike, speedway could only dream of that sort of support. Speedway needs a main sponsor and some serious partners but as long as it carries on being so insular ranging from engines through to parts it is never going to happen. Speedway is not a mainstream sport and most followers of other two wheeled sport certainly show no interest or have not even heard of speedway. Until they have a serious change of direction then it will be an obscure sport on the edge where only ‘anoraks’ follow it. Eurosport cannot change that.

  50. It's good that GP organisers constantly look to tweak and improve the product. But I do think in terms of the scoring, this is an area that needs leaving well be. Through trial and error over several years, they have arrived at a format that provides an exciting climax to each GP, but is also fair and rewards consistency across the series. It's right the winner of the Grand Final, the winner of the hardest race of the night is crowned the night's winner, but it's also right that the night's most consistent performer goes away with the most points. I'm all for change, but not in this instance.
