  1. Some memories from last night ... a bit worried after the first two heats, thinking it was going to be a bit of a fight. The absolute pandemonium when we won it the amazing crowd and the fact that so many hung around for the presentation finding out afterwards that when Adam punched the air as he crossed the finishing line he popped his shoulder out and he was crapping himself as he couldn’t drop his arm and grab the bars till halfway round the first bend. The post match “celebration” at Rosco’s pub chatting with the legend Eddie Kid at the pub. Meeting up with fellow board members a very drunk Adam on the drive home watching videos on his phone and saying “ f**k me, I didn’t realise I was riding THAT close to the fence” going to bed at 3am with a huge grin on my face. Can we do it all again next year please ???

  2. Several reasons why teams request to drop.. With financial being the obvious one. With the underlying reasons of there being absolutely no kudos by winning any Speedway title nor any attainment levels to aspire too from the lowest league to the top.. No disrespect but a Grand Final in Speedway (UK), is akin to two bald men fighting over a comb.. Therefore what difference does it make to the clubs what league they race in? Hardly anyone cares who wins. There is almost zero National coverage.. And there is no financial reward worth speaking of, in fact, as we see, successful clubs can actually lose money and go bust by winning!! Therefore you might as well decide amongst yourselves where you want to compete, and at the end of the day you can watch pretty much the same set of riders anyway so no loss there.. As you say, it sends out all the wrong messages, but that's where the sport is in the UK, and I suppose the overall thoughts are better to have clubs still in existence than not.. An ever decreasing circle though isn't it?

  3. When you look at the final this year to the final last year there is no comparison 2 sets of teams with a full 1-7 No dodgy illegal use of riders Just the leagues best 2 teams (apart from Wolves) to see who could be champions Both Ipswich and Swindon in my view are the best two promoted sides in the top league..............both get out into the community and involve the community....what a great job Lee Kilby has done The final at both venues had huge crowds and proper atmospheres Credit to both sets of supporters

  5. said it before but i think we need to give the domestic season a miss on tv, get the house in order first and then come back to something that doesn't look crap on crap tracks. keep the GP's 100%, it's been a good season again, but the PL, no way

  6. To be fair, the camera work on BT lately has been frustrating. Sometimes I instinctively find myself leaning forward to try and look down the side of the screen to see what is happening in the close racing they have just cut away from in order to follow the leader. And riders zooming past followed by one second of empty track? What's that all about? Would rather have BT than Eurosport, though, who I suspect will be a shambles, as they generally are. I can't believe some people are championing it as a good move. You are right about Sky. We had proper coverage then.

  7. A great night to be at Blunsdon last night. The place was rammed. Just reward for the promotion team for doing a great job this season. From the very start in getting the new track sorted out of their own pocket so quickly for the season (which has buoyed the mood at the abbey alone), to lifting the league trophy in front of thousands last night. Superb. It wouldn’t have mattered who we were against, We’d have blown away anyone over two legs. It’s as if everyone in the team has been riding with an extra 2 points on their average since mid August, just fuelled by confidence alone. People can blather on about Ipswich riders not wanting it or showing no effort, but no amount of passion or effort matters when the team you’re up against is just faster in nearly every department. Well done to the Witches fans there for making the journey last night. Can’t have been much fun watching that, but to be honest that semi final performance at home was their great crowning moment, which they deserved to enjoy. It would have been a bit more exciting and more memorable if it was a tighter score line and having that moment of sheer relief when you squeak a result near the end of the meeting, but we’ve had plenty of those earlier in the season at blunsdon anyway. Watching back on BT, it certainly wasn’t much of a spectacle for the TV viewer, especially as the cameras were barely pointing in the right place half the time, but there was some enjoyable action on track being there in person. Vissing being particularly entertaining. It was great to have all the lads scoring well over most if not all the play off matches. Massive shame to have to ditch a couple of them next year. I Wonder where all the comments about not winning anything with a team lacking a free scoring reserve have gone? Not the right time to say who should be binned, but in terms of keeping riders, Tobiasz on a 6 average, if he can be persuaded to stay in the UK next year is no-brainer. Injury free he should be making a mockery of that average. The crowd and success of last night should be used to put more pressure on sorting this bloody stadium out. Clearly loads of people around the town care enough about speedway still to turn up and pack the place out and even more will be royaly pissed off if further development of the site was to finally bring an end to having speedway at Blunsdon. We need to make the site an immovable object by keeping crowds healthy and general good will about the place, rather than the life just being sucked out of it gradually, as I’m sure Osbourne/SBC/other shady characters with vested interests, are rather hoping will happen. Sounds like a well deserved piss up at Rosco’s last night. He was bloody insufferable 10 minutes after heat 15 last night, so god knows what what he’s like at 2 in the morning after a few bottles of babycham . Great stuff.

  8. What has really struck me about our side this season is the togetherness of everyone since Perks, Jensen and Vissing arrived, not only among the team but also on the terraces. Such a shame the team will be broken up.

  9. This is why we need an outbreak of common sense at Fawlty Towers and run these meetings in September with the cut off at the end of August.

  10. Here we go again. It happened when SKY were about to ditch us, people saying BT (who were coming on board) would offer better coverage. Now, with the prospect of going to Eurosport, BT is rubbish. Shoddy camera work is nothing compared to a sport so impacted by the weather in the PO semis, the TV network stepped up a gear to provide coverage of the restaging. Those expecting better from Eurosport, remember, we're talking about a network who has never been good at meeting programme schedules. I've found they'll list something as being on at a certain time, and you're left waiting and waiting. We never had it so good as when SKY treated us like a proper sport. But a build-up of postponements and costs the company incurred, the tipping point being the ELRC when the Coventry promoter was having a "Mardy" on the morning the cameras were being set up. That probably leaves us where we are right now.

  12. "Waterlogged track" now if i were nasty u might say perhaps 2 riders were out celabrating last night or perhaps we want the second leg at our track , all said in the best possible taste.

  13. Well well well, who would have predicted we would have been sat here at the end of the season with 2 trophies in the bag. I didn't even think we would make the play offs in June!!! Rasser, Perks and Vissing have all made a big difference so the rubbish double winning manager Rosco got the changes right again. Thanks to Terry Russell for overseeing the track work and giving us some entertainment after years of gate and go. Final word to Lee Kilby who has been an absolute breath of fresh air around the place. A promotor who promotes and bar a couple of meetings mid season the crowd levels have surely been up this year. Roll on 2020!!

  14. A nice idea in principle , but as Jenga alluded to , the authorities dont let that happen . Cast your mind back to 2005 .Lower ranked riders were rated A ,B and C . You could choose your reserves to be an A and a C or have two B rated riders . They were to stay at reserve all season . Rye House's A reserve was Steve Boxall . Who improved from the previous season immensely and started banging in double figure scores home and away as Rye House swept all before them . Similarly at a slightly less productive level Jon Armstrong was doing the same at either Mildenhall or Stoke ( I canny remember which ) . Mid season the authorities decided this couldn't be allowed to continue , so both Boxall and Armstrong were ordered into the main body of their respective teams . So it's a nice idea , but as soon as a reserve starts getting heat leader scores, it gets changed .

  16. What do want the final to be ? you want Swindon to make it close ? Maybe Man city in the fa cup final should beat Watford by less goals . brain dead post .

  17. Following on from Somerset and now, apparently Poole, in what other sport do the participants seek to be relegated to a lower division than stay in the top division. What message does that send to T.V. and sponsors generally. The Grand Final is the SUPER BOWL of GB speedway.....really...what a complete bore fest that was. Without change this “sport” is dead.

  21. We all moan at certain times but last night showed just how good speedway can be.At times in the last five years i have been going to Swindon on habit only this year i have really enjoyed it the club has made great strides. The track really looks exciting smooth and AOrlov tells me they will be looking to build the banking up gradually on bends 1/2 which will make it even better i just hope in November some positive decisions are made in our sport.

  22. If Eurosport are covering it next year then hopefully their camera work is better than BT's has been in recent weeks.

  23. If nobody cared then meeting wouldn’t even be taking place especially in the last few days of October. Probably best to concentrate on the riders who are there rather than those who aren’t.

  26. Unfortunately for Ipswich, Swindon have been building momentum over the last 6-8 weeks with several away wins and destroying teams at home. Its never nice to see a team beaten so comfortably in a final, ask Watford fans, but Ipswich were there on merit they just run into a hungry team head and shoulders above everyone else. From a Swindon perspective, a thoroughly enjoyable evening in front of a large crowd, between 3-3500 at a guess, and a league and cup double safely tucked away. Razza was the catalyst obviously but everyone that rode this season played their part not just the final 7 including Lampart, White Knight, Bellego, Nielsen and Shanes. Well done Swindon, deserved champions. Already looking forward to the Charity Shield between the league and cup winners....

  31. Poole will have the best team in the championship. Thier team will be so good that, if they had stayed up, they would win the Premiership. Poole are the best.
    2 points
  32. That’s correct (although there’s no guarantee the rule will be the same in 2020). Don’t forget the conversion factor is 1.6 next season which would give Klindt a CL average of 11.89......

  33. Do you actually enjoy anything or have anything decent to say about speedway? Are you actually a Swindon 'fan' ?? Or are you stuck in the 70's? Odd person

  34. And that's without mentioning the other five! For what it's worth, I like Klindt, but not sure he'd be a great signing for anyone next season on his current average.

  38. Your point is valid regarding the gulf in rider differences however the names that lets it down. Yes Danny King, Rory Schlien, Charles Wright and similar are heading to the line with Luke Harris, Danny Phillips etc and that is just daft. There will never be a value product if that is the model. The top tier imposed a standard for the lower riders to achieve and that is needed in the Championship. Watch two teams were lowest ave is 4 and top is 7 and will see plenty of unpredictable racing all night. Sending riders on 10 point ave and 2 point average to the line in the same race and expecting people to pay for it is pure madness.

  40. What's the point of having weather forecasts when they change every day. We've had rain when they say it will be dry and this week they have forecast everything from heavy rain to dry! It wasn't meant to rain last night or this morning but the roads around me are sodden. And they are now forecasting rain later on. Looks as if I'll never get the grass cut

  41. We all are aware of the credibility issues in speedway. The way in which rules are ignored, interpreted differently in similar situations, brought in without understanding fully the implications and then ignored or revoked etc. We all want to see the support run professionally with sensible rules applied consistently and impartially. We can see that the way that the sport is run devalues the credibility of the competitions but I do not for one minute accept that winning the play offs or even the cup is regarded by most on the terraces as worthless. I doubt there are any Swindon supporters saying this morning that their victory is worth nothing or Ipswich supporters who weren't bothered whether they won or lost. At the beginning of every season we all discuss and comment on the strengths and weaknesses of the teams. Why? Because we all want our team to win the trophies. With regard to the argument that you see basically the same riders in the CL as in the PL there can be no dispute that team strengths in the CL are significantly lower. In the PL teams have riders who do not race in the CL, Doyle, Fricke, Holder, Lambert etc., often 3 other riders who are CL no. 1's, a CL heat leader and CL second strings at reserve. The odds are that any team built to CL standards would languish adrift at the bottom of the PL.

  42. I think 6 of the Ipswich team felt the same last night!!! At least Poole only had 2 riders choke in the 2nd leg of the semi! Ha ha. I've got the stopwatch on for Gav's reply. Well done again Swindon. Great atmosphere on the TV . Plaudits to the DJ as the music seemed spot on for the occasion.

  44. A fantastic night last night. Was this the first time Swindon have won the league title at Blunsdon? It certainly is in my lifetime. A great crowd too. I was held up a bit on the way. I think there was some sort of hold up on the M4 resulting in my normal route via Lambourn Woodlands getting clogged up with traffic. Then got held up in a further traffic jam on the A419 - only to discover it was caused by the speedway! First time in years that's happened. This Swindon team was always, on paper, head and shoulders above the others this year. They certainly were under-performing at one point, though, and it's hard to believe we never topped the league, even with the changes having been made mid-season. Peaked at exactly the right time though. Such a shame the team will be broken up, and the likes of Poole look unlikely to be in the same league as us next year. Speedway is thriving in Swindon at the moment, however. It shows what a bit of positive promotion can do to crowd levels and team spirit. Hats off to Rosco and Lee. Long may these two stay at the helm, and let's hope the club can continue despite the stadium issues.

  45. I find it sad & insulting that Poole announced this during the league final. Almost like, look at us, we need attention after stuffing up the semi finals.

  46. Perfect example of the rider "disease" in the UK. When you miss the start give up after half a lap and just follow the leaders as they disappear in the distance. Another chanfe to make the gate will come along soon. Lawson & Heeps doing it to perfection - wait and hope that you fare better at the tapes next time around. King did at least have a go once or twice but his fighting spirit faded too easily. Sarjeant - a long way to go to become a speedway racer ( in the Premier League at least ) just not up to it.

  47. Congratulations to Swindon worthy winners , commiserations to Ipswich , was pretty much one way traffic but you can only beat what's in front of you, Swindon we're favourites at the start of the league and strengthened mid season , all this talk of Ipswich not deserving their place in the final is utter bollocks!!! They earned their way to the final but fell short, there's no shame in that. Once again congratulations Swindon , also on a personal unbiased thought hope rasser is not to knackered after tonight , you have another final to contest and Claus, Mon the tigers !!!!
