  1. Must confess, I love watching meetings like this.. Simply because 'true racers' get a fairer end of the stick rather than the usual 'gate and go' fest that most bone dry slick tracks provide...

  6. No Iversen slowed and covatti couldn’t do anything. Poor from ref.

  7. Wtf? Iversen caused that! He miscounted and caused Covatti to lay it down.

  8. What a massive roller in heat 15 by Jack Holder. Can't believe any referee could be so blind!

  9. Cracking last heat from Bomber. Holder got away with jumping the start too

  10. Nah put Allen in, would have been gate 4, Ipswich would have increased lead. That decision turned the meeting

  15. Never liked that rule - if a team wants to build top heavy as opposed to strength in depth then that’s surely up to them.

  17. Re the NDL itself I fear that we may be seeing a two league structure next year with an expanded top tier operating between PL and CL level and a second tier for the remainder operating between CL and NDL level. The risks are stark - too many tracks trying to operate at a level with higher costs but minimal increase in crowds. Apparently it seems to have worked for Ipswich and Eastbourne this year though. A sport is really only as strong as its grass roots so a strong NDL is essential because the way professional speedway is heading in Britain it may be our only future.

  18. There is a potential golden opportunity here for a few forward thinking individuals like Barry Bishop potentially Connor Dugard and others to create something out of nothing here. While those above lose their heads in the immediate mess a chance has arisen for those with a bit of grey matter to do something slightly radical and make a viable product that could ultimately save British speedway in the long term.

  19. I am not quite sure brave is the word. The last promotion at Championship level folded having made losses in every season. The present promotion are reportedly losing money hand over fist at NL level. Most of the league is based north of Manchester, with only Somerset within 200 miles. Travelling expenses will be huge. Attracting riders to drive to the far south west - on a Friday night - will be a problem that could result in higher pay than normal. They will certainly have to work on the track preparation side, because Championship riders are far less forgiving than NL ones. They'll also have to work hard on the PR, because the attitude seems to be that criticism - from anyone and of any kind - is unacceptable. That's not good enough and requires a sea change. Having said all that, SBA cam be a fantastic race track and I have seen some brilliant speedway there at Championship level in particular, and I have always thought that a city the size of Plymouth could and should attract gates big enough to substantially support a Championship team. Very best of luck to the club and the promotion.

  20. Krzysztof Cegielski, and great majority of speedway followers in Poland are strongly against this idea. Below is what he had to say on the subject in SportoweFakty.pl (...) I would like to remind anyone that strong and rich speedway leagues in Poland did not come from the fact that one or the other club chairman, riderr or anyone else came up with the idea of building the best speedway league in the world. We achieved this position thanks to the successes of the Polish riders. It was the successes of Tomasz Gollob supported by Jarek Hampel in the GP and the entire team in the World Cups that caused the interest of big sponsors, television stations and the media. Some time ago we had to pay for television channels to show speedway on our screens. Today TV channels are fighting among themselves for it. That is why we must watch our team and introduce our own younger talented riders to it. We would not have had them, were it not for the provision for two young Polish riders at no. 6, 7 (or 14,15) Today there would be no Drabik, Smektała, Kubera, Lampart or the entire backbone of our National team. If today we forcibly throw foreign juniors into the Polish speedway at the expense of Wojdyła, Szlauderbach, Bartkowiak or Świdnicki, then we will close the natural access of more riders to ou rNational Squad..

  30. Perhaps a bit more transparency would avoid wild speculation. It always better to tell the truth rather than people making up something worse.

  31. I expect the track to chop up tonight. The rain will have collected in the holes and will make soft patches. Could work in Ipswich’s favour. However the pirates are very capable of winning at foxhall. Should be a great semi final. Good luck and safe riding to both teams.

  32. That mention of the Wimbledon fans is one of the most touching comments I've read for a long time. Nearly half a century on Tommy Jansson's light still burns in faithful hearts. This troubled sport can still make you gasp. It's people like that who will never let the sport die.

  35. THE 2019 season at the Eddie Wright Raceway isn’t over after all! The National League Riders’ Championship, washed out at Leicester over the weekend, will now take place at Scunthorpe on SUNDAY, OCTOBER 6th at 6pm. Further news will appear in due course, but in the meantime, put this date in your diary!

  40. Is the ESS retaining the nine team league with Thursday racing next year? Anyway, more importantly, congratulations to Smederna for bringing the playoffs to life. The narrow win over Vetlanda followed by the comprehensive thrashing of Dackarna is an achievement to be truly proud of. The dark days of a few years back must seem very distant now for Ghostwalker and his fellow fans/administrators. Gleb Chugunov was a true delight to watch. Most of all I'd like to thank ESS for their legal streaming service this year. 82 matches for less than £80 has to be one of the best bargains I've ever bought. It has been a real privilege for the first time in five decades of watching speedway to watch a complete league season. I never dreamt I would ever get that opportunity. I just hope that despite the C-More deal next year I can still watch the complete season, even if on demand rather than live. This sport can still be wonderful, if it's given the chance. Congratulations Smiths, the team of Tommy and Bengt Jansson. You truly deserved it

  42. Having "someone who knows what they are doing" wouldn't of saved the Prem league and BT deal this season. He was the only one that put his hand in his pocket, and probably lost money. I'm not saying he is the right man for the job, He's set in his ways, that's for sure, but where would the Prem have been without him this season ? Gone maybe. Cabbage patch , well they go together with webbed feet around these parts
