  1. Some people seem to be so hard to please, I think Nigel Pearson and Kelvin Tatum do a great job, as does Natalie Quirk. How luck we are to get any kind of speedway coverage especially domestically.

  3. Hopefully you can read the words in bold that the loss of Howarth COULD GO EITHER WAY!! So a guy who at best would get 4-5 points..................has scored 6,3,7,7 and 10 on his last 5 visits..............and you say i know nothing about speedway...try finding out factual information before posting because you make yourself look stupid when you post tripe....... If R/R gets 7 or 8 then yes Wolves will be stronger in this meeting.......ive actually said the riders at r/r could score more..but somehow you choose to ignore that fact Try reading my post and then what you type might have some substance....

  5. So going by Homer's post I should have paid a £5 at Sheffield on Sunday. Berwick representative was in Heats 1,8,12,16,20. Rest of the heats basically meant nothing to me.

  6. Honestly Two passes the whole meeting against Newcastle Heat 07: Bjerre passed Etheridge on the back straight of Lap 1 and Heat 09: Jorgensen pulled a hard move to go under Jonasson on Bend 4 of Lap 1. Then the event that was nearly Heat 10: The first running of the race saw Jonasson fall on Bend 3 Lap 2 when in third. Bjerre allegedly fell at the same time when chasing (he said he laid his bike down). Both were excluded from the rerun, however up to this point Wethers and Jonasson has passed and re-passed on the first lap and a half. The race when rerun with Gappmaier and Wethers was a gate and go affair unfortunately and as much as Wethers tried he got nowhere and then went wide into the thick stuff on the last bend and came down hard and was withdrawn from the meeting. The other 12 heats were all from the gate and done and dusted on the exit of the second bend of the first lap, the meeting was awful as a spectacle. Sorry... Regards THJ

  7. Think I remember seeing one at Brandon. Last rider was Chris Manchester, who decided to pull a wheelie all the way down the back straight, and was promptly excluded for not racing properly. The referee was Frank Edbon surprisingly

  8. Boring? Come on, man! Except for Leszno dominating at the top, the Ekstraliga this year was tremendously exciting. Who would have thought that Gorzow and Torun finish the season in the relegaton zone. All meetings were generally excellent throughout the season, and attracted big crowds, and that even with live tv coverage for the first time of EVERY meeting.

  9. Checking my Hackney book I see he won it in 75. I was only 6 at the time so I don't really remember, although I'm sure I was there. I remember the Superama was held when the Hawks were away at fellow Friday nighters Wolverhampton and it was always a fantastic line-up. I often wondered what the Wolves management thought about it because it probably affected their gate, although I don't think we had a large away support because we lost a lot on the road!

  11. As somebody who watched the sport during its healthy times, and keeping track with what it has become, I'd be grateful for any coverage right now. Fans often lambasted SKY for its coverage, or because they didn't screen a certain match, or its commentators... When SKY decided to ditch us, the same supporters called them "rubbish" anyway, and BT was the best. But because BT air occasional live matches, they're the villains. Speedway 2019 should be thankful for the amount of live action that hits the screens. It is still laughable that hardcore supporters feel it deserves better.

  14. Not so , it's a local dust up . If it were Berwick v Glasgow followed by Berwick against Eastbourne or Birmingham , I could see your point . But on this occasion everybody in attendance will have a team to support in both matches.

  16. Lets hope that the track once and for all cannot be blamed for a Witches defeat. Slick and a gaters paradise and the fat lady will be singing by 8.15pm A track deep on the outside that favours the brave and the Witches will have a chance.....

  19. Yes some very good racing. The track is decent, rarely seen a bad meeting there. Plus its only an hour from Zagreb, a beautiful stadium, the best Speedway stadium I've been to outside Torun. The Pavlic family dont mess about when it comes to organization either

  24. Attendances have been dropping for the past 40 years, well before live Speedway was beamed regularly into UK homes. Other sports though in that time have grown their attendances (and brand), on the back of much increased live coverage of sport in the past 20 years in particular.. Domestic sports such as Rugby, (both codes), Cricket with its 20/20 coverage, BSB, and Darts in particular have all benefitted tremendously by live coverage.. Darts being the PDC variation rather than the BDO.. Which I think is very relevant.. Live coverage of the BDO is terrible. Often played out in front of a black curtain backdrop to hide the lack of a crowd. Whilst the PDC sells out 10000+ arenas.. One prospers and grows year on year, whilst one hands out leaflets for their 'majors' to local milk men and taxi drivers in the town where the event is held to hand out to anyone who accepts one.. Same sport, two different ways to have used the coverage they have been given.. Similar to Poland and British Speedways use of their coverage maybe? In short, if what you put out to the watching masses is poor, uninteresting, and devoid of relevance, played out in front of empty stands alluding to its worth, then it will severely damage your brand, resulting in an inevitable vicious circle of decline... That's then your fault for letting this happen, not TV's for showing it...

  25. Having seen around six NL matches and eight Premiership, I'd much rather watch NL. The Championship has by far the better standard of ' racing ' not gate and follow, but the NL can produce good racing even if it tends to be two battling at the front and two a way back battling for a point.

  27. Sorry, I only saw the tweet as being about the CLRC and did not read the last bit. But after you posted that people were still saying the Newcastle match was on other dates so I was hoping to confirm the correct date. Just trying to help. I will stop making that mistake here!

  29. Talk about a guy in need. He will be at Birmingham on Wednesday for Scunthorpe. Thursday is a rest day. Friday he is at Glasgow. Saturday he has 2 meetings at Berwick. Then back down to Scunthorpe for our last meeting on Sunday. Since his break from Redcar & signing for us, he must be the most over used rider out there since the start of July.

  32. Sad news indeed. A stalwart of the Stars team for several years, he always gave 100% and was part of my teen years spent at Saddlebow Road every Saturday night. My condolences go to his family, he will always be part of the Stars family and will not be forgotten. Born in Kings Lynn, and rode for Kings Lynn, I had the pleasure of meeting him in Norwich a few years back at a World Speedway riders dinner. I've only just found out this sad news, and wondered if anybody knows when the Memorial Service for him is to be held in the Hope Church in Norwich? I may have missed it, but would like to pay my last respects if possible.

  33. Mark made his league debut in the top division, the then British League as a 16 year old at number 7 for what was the Hackney Hawks.....each team in the top flight had to have effectively a junior at number 7 He rode with Galvin in 1988 when Hackney dropped back down to the National League...........before leaving along with Louis and Moggo to go Ipswich in 1989

  43. Usually this meeting is much earlier in the summer and I've rarely missed it. As you know many fans stand on the grass bank on the east side, usually there is daylight until the latter stages of the meeting so there is no issue. Sunset will be around 7-15 so the bank will be dark for most of the meeting this time, in addition the grass is more likely to be damp or become damp and hence more slippy so there could be more of a safety issue. This may be of no concern to the majority of fans who would normally stand over there I don't know but not ideal in my view.

  44. My all time favourite rider is Dan Forsberg who rode for Birmingham in 1952 and again in 1957. Dan was very much under-rated and was in my opinion, every bit as good a rider as were Ove Fundin and Olle Nygren - he was a pure racer and didn't have the ruthlessness of most of the other Swedes which is probably why he was so much overshadowed by them. Dan had a brilliant first season with the Brummies but was repeatedly obstructed by the Swedish authorities who resented him riding in England and put all kinds of obstacles in his way, which caused him to miss so many Birmingham matches and resulted in Les Marshall not retaining his services for the following season. When he returned to Birmingham in 1957 he looked as good as ever, only being beaten once by the opposition in the home fixtures in which he rode that year. It was my pleasure to meet him for the first time when he came over to watch the Brummies re-opening meeting in 2007.
