Once upon a time the bottom half of the series automatically went into the challenge. As others have said if you exclude GP riders you risk weakening the field for the series. I too would like to see some fresh faces in the GPs but if they can’t beat the old guard in the qualifying events then perhaps they aren’t ready or good enough to get there.7 points

I don't think there is anything wrong with the sgp qualifying system. Just because Zagar and NKI aren't winning SGPs they are in my opinion still in the top 16 in the world.6 points

You're spot on.. point is, even at this stage of their careers, both Zagar and Iversen are capable of winning a GP.4 points

You're totally right, what a nonsense speedway is. It should be like football where the top 8 sides in the World Cup are seeded to the next event.. All the others aren't allowed to qualify as they had their chance. Speedway fans... I despair at times.4 points

Craig's adventure to qualify for the GPs is over. I wonder how much his injury has affected him plus the Eastbourne stushie. However he did win one race beating Vaculik, Fricke and Pavlic. He also beat Iversen, Lambert and Bellego. Some good scalps seeing as Iversen and Fricke both qualified. On the other hand he must have got the set up wrong in his first race as he finished last with Chris Harris even beating him for 3rd. So a good effort from our captain.4 points

Whoever is in the series it's almost certain there will be 2/3/4 riders who are adrift over the course of the season and don't really look like having a chance of winning a GP. I agree that it would be nice to see some new faces but if the likes of Zagar and Iversen qualify then they deserve to be there. Would be different if they were being given a wildcard year after year but if they are proving themselves as the best of the rest in these meetings then fair enough.3 points

By the same token,Should Bjerre ,Harris and Cook be allowed to enter again they have been there before and would add nothing to the GPS if they qualify.Imo everybody has the right to try and qualify again and if the do fair play to them3 points

Most of the stadiums that also have Stock Car racing already have the loops under the track for the transponders with each formula having strick rules where the transponder must be mounted. As an example F2 Stock Car results from Mildenhall last night are on the Speedhive siteso you can see exactly who passed who and when in each race. Each driver has their own transponder and is responsible for ensuring it is working. I am sure Speedway riders could easily do exactly the same.2 points

As we have said, the old World Final system was never designed to showcase the best 16 riders in the world; the GP system is. There will always be the odd exception, but you can't argue with what we have. Who cares how old someone is, or how boring you may think his style is? If he earns the right to compete, then good luck to him! Iversen and Zagar both continually prove that they are good enough to be in the GP series...2 points

The top 4 in the GP challenge were the 4 riders who are currently in the GP's (yes i know Fricke was a reserve) seems to show nobody is yet ready to step up2 points

If every sport needed to be profit making in order to continue existing then there would little to no sport about now and that includes the Worlds most popular sport - football! - Look at the current plight of 3rd tier clubs Bolton Wanderers and Bury as well as one of the biggest football clubs on the planet Manchester Uniteds ongoing debt. Indeed without many modern day football stadiums being multi use venues, football would be even more unviable! The universally more acceptable athletics has never been profitable! I do feel that certain things should go above profit making and money for the best interests of society. Stadiums should be included in this. Iconic speedway stadiums like Belle Vue, Exeter, Norwich, Southampton, Wimbledon, West Ham, the old Leicester, Coventry, Cradley, Oxford and probably quite a few others should have been listed and prevented from being turned into housing estates. Had indeed been the case then the sport today would undoubtedly be in a better shape. Football gets afforded this allowance cause of its popularity and local communities all over benefit from it. and Like I've said before on here, Odsal could be staging football, speedway and stock cars if ways could be found to make the venue more multi use?2 points

What I struggle to understand is why people complain about the current format, qualifying system etc. Because quite simply if it comes to 4 riders on a track accumulating points the best will always be at the top. There’s been many different scoring systems in the GPs since 1995 and to my knowledge it’s yet to make someone who wasn’t the best riders be at the top of the score charts come the end of the season. As for the qualifying I’m not sure how anyone can complain. Everyone is given a equal opportunity to qualify. Sometimes it throws a few surprises. Last night the top 4 were no real shock but that is sport and whether you like them or not they are the riders who earned it by right. The last 2 GPS have been two of the best there’s ever been so the personnel is fine. The main issue right now is staging GPs in venues worthy of such a competition.2 points

Cant believe the thought process on here of some people Iversen and Zagar on their day capable of winning a gp They got through on merit. Aspgren would have made it maybe but for engine failure. If he had he would have deserved it, but would he have been better in the series then Zagar or Iversen? Doubtful Smolinski as well was close and Loktaev........would they enhance it? Unlikely At the end of the day the other riders had every chance and were not good enough its simple really Seem to remember the clamour for Lindgren to be dropped out a few years back and look at him now Wasnt long ago people wanted Milik and Lebedevs.......how they have seen their careers go in decline2 points

Would normally wish for Poole to get a good hiding but in the context of Play Off qualification an away win would be ideal.2 points

He brought the house down when beating Briggo??? Stan is what speedway was all about a great team man.2 points

Only Robert knows how fit, or otherwise he is. However looking at his scores last night he ended the meeting with a win. Many people seem to think riders, after a long lay off can throw their leg back over a bike and just pick up where they left off. It’s takes a few races/meetings to get back to where you were. Only have to look at Wuffy. Long lay off and just finding his way back. Lets give Robert the time and space he needs to ride himself back to full match fitness. To be honest, if he rides Monday then I’m not expecting to much from him.2 points

I'll be travelling to this. I have full belief in the Panthers to win this, and string a run of results together, to make the top 4.2 points

Why didn't we use Dan Thompson as a Tactical Substitute in heat 14? Also I would have thought Tom Perry was a better choice for heat 15 rather than Connor Coles.1 point

So Edinburgh up first? Sounds stupid but I would of faced Glasgow first, more chance of getting more Glasgow fans than Edinburgh ones and its a longer trip home for them? Meaning they could leave after first meeting if they wanted to. Hopefully it doesn’t effect the crowd or any potential buses Glasgow hopefully have organised.1 point

He’s great is Bomber, watching him win at Cardiff was possibly the most enjoyment ever had at a sporting event. However seeing him last night the length of the straight behind the others was very sad. I hope he concentrates on making some money and enjoying his racing going forward1 point

The top 10 are pretty tight, but the man in 11th, 1 point behind 10th is apparently totally out of touch...Is that what you are saying?1 point
-
But how do you know who the 15 best riders in the world are? IMO just because you are in the GP-series it doesn't make you a top 15 rider. If Aspgren would have qualified, would he have been among the 15 best in the world? I'd say no. IMO current top 8 + Woffinden and Doyle are likely to be the 10 best in the world but behind them I'd say that there are a whole bunch of riders that are of similar quality where their day form would decide who the better rider is.1 point
-
You could have the very best 16 riders in the world... way, way ahead of anyone else. One of them will still come last.1 point

Anyone who has missed one or more meeting will be able to use their pass. Those that have full attendance - and it's a couple of handfuls (as it were) will get admission and programme for Edinburgh included, pay £15 for the Glasgow portion (I suppose they could go home after the first meeting ... but why would you?) concessions £12.50. Ticket use has been recorded over the season - anyone in any doubt can check with me on Saturday night. Holders of rain-off tickets will get the face value of those tickets taken off the £30 cost of admission - ie £10 for an Edinburgh ticket, £17 or £13 concessions for a Glasgow ticket; £34 for a Glasgow family ticket (concessions and family tickets were not issued for the Edinburgh meeting). Bumper programme being produced but will still cost £3. Think that's it all covered - any questions please ask ... I'll answer between stacking the baked and suncream1 point

The difference is Iversen, Zagar and Lindback have been proven to be not at the level of winning GPs regularly, or even at all. Aspgren, Pavlic and Loktajev probably wouldn't win a GP either but you never know as they've never tried. Just like you say with Kolodziej, you never know...1 point

Certainly going to be an excellent meeting. Not one to be missed. It's going to be a lovely day tomo and if you love your speedway theres going to be no better way to spend your bank holiday1 point

I believe it was a deal done between Poole and Somerset in order to assist the Rebels in achieving their minimum asset base back in 2017/18?! I'll stand corrected if I'm wrong1 point

Think it was the Golden Helmet final that was supposed to determine the qp quali riders. With the meeting in Poznan never happening due to a safety issue with the track, the PZM allocated the top semi finalists to the qualies. Most top riders were seeded to the final, never rode so didnt get slots either...1 point

This conversation has been had on here multiple times already. In short, its can hold 10,000 the same or bigger then several GP current venues, it wouldn't replace Cardiff, it would be in addition to Cardiff.1 point

That's true, but as you know, isn't the point. It doesn't matter though, I've been beaten into submission along with the other tens of thousands that no longer can be bothered with it.1 point

Of course current GP riders should be allowed in the Challenge. It’s only top 8 in the GPS that are guaranteed a place the next year. It’s up to those riders outside of this years 15 to prove themselves worthy of a spot next year, and that means beating those 9-15. If they can’t do that it means they really in position 16 and downward.1 point
-
I totally agree. It seems a nonsense that those performing poorly in the GP can do so with the comfort of knowing that the back door is still ajar. No rider in the GP should be allowed in the GP challenge and should only be allowed in the following year if they cannot qualify on merit in the then current GP campaign. No wonder the sport is not taken seriously.1 point

I think the same with our reserves, both Adam and Jamie,. Adam had a couple of really good rides last night but all too often can slide off when under pressure. One thing I won't ever say though is that he hasn't got heart, he is a real team man. With the second half last night 10 rides I think, with some of the "bangs" he get he must feel battered the day after a meeting.1 point

PL is represented with all 16 riders: 5 Ipswich 3 Peterborough, Wolves 2 Swindon, King's Lynn 1 Belle Vue 0 Poole Should rename it The Double Up Riders Championship..1 point

Sedgeman , Thought the idea was to try and improve the team . I take it you weren't around couple of seasons ago to watch that total waste of space take the p### out of the Ipswich fans and management with his can't be arsed attitude .1 point
