  1. In other news there's some effing sad acts on here!

  2. I don't think that's correct. True, most of the time they hit the starts but when they didn't they were perfectly capable of getting past their opponents. It was only in the last few heats - when they had won - that they took their foot of the pedal. Reading updates merely confirms my view. I don't think Flint, Bickley or Kemp let anyone down and really got stuck in. Simply truth is they were out of the depth but it has to be remembered that Flint and Kemp are just 16. Lambert was absolutely imperious and Bewley battled hard, let down on occasion by his inconsistent gating and the need to battle through the pack. He nevertheless sealed points (that in the end made a big difference) on the final corner by a refusal to give in. Well done to them all. A word, to, for Neil Vatcher and the professionalism of the GB team. The race suits and bike covers with sponsors well to the fore were impressive. Overall, a cracking meeting with some excellent racing. To echo Hyderd, the Polish fans were simply brilliant, all credit to them. It was a pity that there weren't a few more British ones because at £15 for 20 races this wasn't much dearer than a Colts match. A final word for track curator Andy Meredith. A very sunny, hot day with a strong breeze down the track made absolutely no difference - as always - to the quality of the strip.

  3. A panthers fan????? So you are a lyimg troll then,,, only the other day you were a witches fan,,, even says so on your bio. See that's the problem when you have so many alias,,, you can't remember who you are on what thread. If the mods had any savvy about them,, they would block all your alias,,, unfortunately they don't seem to do anyrhing

  5. I can agree with that BUT they agreed to run the meeting and then changed their minds half way through the season. If they didn't know what sort of crowd would attend then whoever agreed to run a round is a fool. If they had said no at the beginning of the season and never agreed with whatever reasons they felt were justified that is one thing but dropping the fixture when junior riders and their families will have made plans is totally wrong. Poole gets a lot of unjustified criticism, as well as some justified, but this is a dreadful let down for the riders of the future who I hope when they become stars will treat Poole the way they are being treated as juniors.

  6. I have copied this here from the U21 Team Final hoping to prompt discussion of Pay Per View live streaming - The real winner was the quality of the delayed live stream, which I personally would have paid for ( had the option been available LIVE ). This is the dilemma facing UK speedway in that making paid live streaming of as many matches as possible to see if that can add to the overall income stream for each club. I would pay for a live streaming view of every match from the NSS. I would pay £5 - possibly more and I point out that I would not be a lost fan from the turnstile income as I have never been there and am very unlikely to watch live in the stadium ( due to several factors including transport the and overall costs ). Would this match have made the Pay Per View income viable ie 1,000 people or 5,000 people paying to watch? As there was a potentially global audience it could have been 25,000 paying fans ( or more ). The BSPA need to grasp the nettle on this ( yes I know this was not a BSPA event ) but the likely future of UK speedway is at least partially intertwined with PPV income. This delayed live stream, which I enjoyed, was worth me paying something for, had it been LIVE . What do other people feel?

  7. Do you not think the clubs that have already held them didn’t lose money on it then?. What a total lack of interest in British speedway the owners of Poole have shown. How you can even defend this is beyond me as it’s one of the very reasons the sport is on its knees.

  8. Dany Gappmaier, who would have thunk it? Well that was a bloody good meeting. Never seen anybody work so hard for so little reward as Scott Nicholls did tonight. He had five races, only one of those featuring a pass, but they were five excellent races none the less. Decent atmosphere created by the travelling Leicester fans, always makes for a better meeting when there is a bit of travelling support. Good to see all the riders walk away from that crash in heat 9 it looked a nasty one. All in all a cracking win for Berwick tonight.

  11. So you are taking gavans word he is an Ipswich fan? We ain't ever seen or heard of him in the stands. Think you may well find he was invented for one purpose only,,, to troll Poole fans and threads.

  15. If Buster was going to do everything in his power to make it a success and requires better support for the sport at the Showground, all he had to do was make it £10 for everyone and under 16s free.

  17. Could be, but with the money lost, there was no way they could afford to bring him back again, unless a big sponsor could be found. There again, I would point out again that some of the racing even in the first half of that season with Lewis Bridger coming from the back was good, but fans at that time wren't appeased with good racing, they only wanted a winning team. Sometimes you just can't win.

  18. The ending to that story was that Peter didn't bother telling Dym that he had been dropped, right up to the point that Dym turned up at Berwick the following week only to find he had been replaced.

  19. Spot on... Can't imagine the companies that film the racing at the various tracks around the country sell thousands of DVD's for each meeting, so surely it would be more beneficial financially for themselves to get paid by the clubs to stream the racing live? Speedway pretty much now has a hard core of followers at most tracks who will be there week in week out, with crowds (unless on TV or poor weather), not fluctuating up and down by any more than 10 to 15% from the average I would suggest.. And streaming would especially help the clubs financially on those nights when the weather is a bit ropey, as many don't attend the track now, but would no doubt pay to watch the stream from the comfort of their armchairs.. As I say, the die hards will be there anyway, those who spend the most money all season with the clubs, it's the less regular attendees that streaming will pick up, increasing their contribution to the clubs finances..

  21. Equally disappointed but far from surprised. Sadly no amount of spin can make this look like an SCB/BSPA idea so won't get the coverage it deserves. Add in the wasted money (wasted)spent by the BSPA in the (un)successful GTR project and this shows further the vast gulfs between IOW's promotional vision and what we are currently saddled with.

  29. Not a very satisfactory situation I agree - but the BSPA can't allow a situation where certain riders can opt out of their club's fixtures at will. If they do this, then their club has to suffer, and it was unfortunate that in this instance, the Brummies had two more riders out of action through injury - producing a wholly uncompetitive team. Redcar were in the same situation with Erik Riss opting to ride elsewhere and having to be similarly replaced by a National League reserve, and with Jordan Stewart also missing, the Bears paid the price - losing their home match against Scunthorpe.

  30. Even worse than that was Clegg didnt come in for heat 8 instead of Phillips (I am sure can make a reserve change in protected race). He was that bad in first 2 it wouldnt of made a difference if in the huff

  32. It does indeed, that must mean that NB Jacobsen is racing though just to be on the safe side I'd count the rider's in the pits before hand as I thought they were only going to add up to six. Maybe Seb Alden has brought a bike with him.

  33. Would imagine Chris Harris moving to Ipswich was all about Rohan Tungate not able to ride for Ipswich( bad blood) so a swap was the best answer to make both teams competitive.

  34. Really enjoyable meeting, some brilliant racing & real atmosphere created by the many Polish fans in attendance - Lublin, Wroclaw & Leszno colours in evidence around me, belting out "Polska Bialo Czerwony" with gusto & real passion, great stuff! With Chase the mascot doing what he does best as part of the excellent BV presentation it all contributed to a fun night out. Just a comment on Leon Flint, felt those first two laps offered us a glimpse into a very bright future. Yes he tailed off, but for two laps he showed real pace & a lack of fear of riders with greater experience which will hopefully take him a long way.

  35. That is the real dilemma of this. It will be almost impossible to get That pricing right to achieve the outcome we want. Especially, it would seem, with Speedway fans. £5 is so cheap that some locals would not attend and yet £10 would probably be considered by most of us to be too much to spend on a live feed of such a meeting. Let's not forget this is a meeting that if not being held in this country very few folk would have cared about at all. And no one would have paid £5 to havevitt being cast from Poland or Czecho at all. Not sure that BSI would get any real take up on a live stream of GPs at £5 a time either, come to that. We may love our speedway but we don't really like paying much for it. We d all look for a hooky pirate stream instead.

  36. While we are on the subject of race times and whether they can be trusted. Thought I'd share this gem with you: June 23, 2008 SKY SPORTS’ electronic timer recorded Jason Crump’s Heat 1 win as a new track record. The 55.9 was a full second lower than the record time set two weeks before. The Sports' channel always used their electronic timer when covering matches live. Immediately the new record time came under scrutiny from Crump himself, who stated he did not feel he was going that fast and also added he had slowed down on the last lap because he was so far ahead. Only when the race was replayed in the SKY studios they registered a time of 58.0 seconds - 2.1 seconds slower than the electronic board clocked - and confusion reigned as to what had gone wrong with the timer. Nobody came close to the supposed new record for the rest of the meeting – Crump recorded next fastest, 57.8 in Heat 6. Belle Vue’s regular timekeeper said all the other races agreed with the times he had taken. One theory was that Ipswich’s Piotr Swiderski had retired in the race in question and the SKY clock had stopped when he crossed the line with Crump still coming round on his last lap. Belle Vue contacted the BSPA about having the time checked and revised. The SKY time was annulled. Crump lowered the track-record again, ironically against Ipswich in August, clocking a time of 56.8 - only one tenth of a second quicker than his previous (official) best (56.9) against Eastbourne in June.

  37. For someone who lives in London where there is no speedway the stream be it live or delayed was fantastic. It was obviously Clean Cut Sports who have the technology as they live stream ice hockey, I think, but it was their commentary until it was cut for the last few heats. No matter, it was nearly live speedway. This must be the future. Yes, it could lose a bit at the gate but make it pay per view then you will get the money that way, better than no money at all. I pay £26 per month to BT so I can watch speedway which I would rather pay to the sport than a TV company. Subscribing to watch movies, sport etc. is very common so let’s embrace the opportunity to promote our sport, start with all premiership matches and sell as a full subscription, part subscription for “your” teams away matches, or extra for both home and away. There are huge opportunities out there, let’s grab them.

  38. I was just amazed we got near to 30 points so all in all I cant fault any Brummies rider last night. Im not sure why Paco is apologising for last night, he doesnt need to as hes had a good season and a real fans favourite at Perry Barr. There are other people that should come out and explain the circumstances as to why that team went to Glasgow last night.

  40. No need to get rid of the greyhound tracks. Gustrow's track, for example, as a foot print, would sit within most greyhound tracks.. Cannot complain when tracks pay hundreds of thousands to riders who put hardly one extra punter on the gate, instead of spending hundreds of thousands on their tracks (and improve the entertainment), which could maybe attract more punters... The longer the straights and tighter the bends, the more horsepower, and trapping, plays a part.. The longer the bends and smaller the straights the more ability and track craft plays its part.. The longer riders go sideways, rather than in a straight line, the better the racing..

  42. Excellent meeting, Poland are streets ahead at the moment, but I believe we can close the gap over the next 2-4 seasons. Polish fans were fantastic and made the atmosphere all the better. Wish we could have that every match.

  46. I don't normally go on here but I've been reading these posts and quite frankly I am amazed at how you all come to your own conclusions regarding this so just to set the record straight it isn't right that we wouldn't agree to change this fixture the fact is WE COULDN'T. When I get asked to change a fixture the first thing I do is ask my riders I can not make that decision for them as they have other commitments at the time we only had one rider that's in full time employment he agreed to ask his employers as the date was mid week. Another of my riders came back and said he couldn't do it my rider that is in full time employment then told me he couldn't get time off work at such short notice so we had to say no. These riders have these fixtures from the beginning of the season they arrange time off work and other commitments. I like your promoter he's good guy and works hard and if we could've changed the fixture we would've but two of my riders were not available. If you sign a rider that has other commitments you make sure he's available for your meetings if not you either don't sign or take the chance that the team your racing against can change. You're probably thinking now that this guy's obviously got something to do with Scunthorpe so I'm not going to hide behind any names yes I do have something to do with Scunthorpe I am the co promoter Gail Godfrey and yes wife to the Vice Chairman

  48. No speedway is the nuclear option though, so Chapman, or anyone with similar gripes which are pretty standard over the last 15 years, is preferable to nothing. At least that gives future options, closure does not. As for NL, that wouldn't last a season. Nobody will turn up for 4 riders 20 yards apart at the pacey EoES.

  49. That is a scandalous decision from Godfrey, kick the IOW promotion in the nuts like he did Lakeside and Workington last year. No wonder British speedway is on its knees. Self interest governs the sport in this country.
