Hmmmm, yet another Speedway thread discussing trolls and aliases. Let's get back to the meeting shall we. I for one would be very disappointed if we didn't comfortably turn over this Poole side and return to the top of the table on Thursday. On the official Witches preview they say that the Pirates are still a dangerous side away from home but if we don't get the 3pts easily against this team we don't deserve to be leading the league. I know they are having major injury issues at the moment but the Witches have had more than their fair share in recent years and it's about time something went our way! I still hope I get to see a decent meeting with some entertaining racing and I'm sent home a happy man with my team sitting pretty at the top of the Premiership.4 points

Apparently the river Tees has turned into blood and been inundated with frogs, when Aaron (Summers? on his last visit) stretched out his hand with the rod and struck the dust of the ground, lice came on men and animals, the track staff have been struck by boils, it's looking very dark at the moment etc. etc. Waiting on a miracle.3 points

To be honest we are going on about the best riders giving "One league" a miss but the truth is we don't really have the "best" riders here anymore to begin with. I really don't mean any disrespect to the star names we already have here but they are no where near to the high standards (maybe a couple of exceptions) we were used to watching on the terraces in the 80's and 90's. Maybe a few of the modern star names are charging top dollar for their services? You can't fault them for doing so if promoters are daft enough to pay what they are asking but does the standard of racing reflect that? I Know people will come back and say "No - we saw good racing last night" but come on lets face it, it's probably once in a blue moon you actually see a decent meeting these days. I could be wrong of cause, but the last few meetings I have seen on BT sports including the GP's I have turned the channel over after a few heats. That said, I also recently watched a Swedish league meeting on the Free Sports channel and that bored the hell out of me so maybe the standards have dropped in other countries? It all comes back again to asking does the punter get value for their money? In my opinion NO. British Speedway needs to re-invent itself fast. Let it be run by the organ grinder not the monkey.3 points

You can 'Fanny' around with the price as much as you want, price has a factor, yes, but the main reason for the lack of attendance is the product itself. When die hard's are leaving in their droves, you cannot continue to say the fans are wrong, time to listen to their opinions.3 points

Part of the problem is that the NL was forced to accept a much lower points limit this season. Its a massive jump from the NL to the Championship and that meant that riders who would have benefitted from competing in both leagues could not. Word I got was that one NL side definitely wanted Bowtell for 2019 but he effectively ruled himself out. As such, its his own fault he doesn't have an NL place. Question is - and despite Jon Cook's ridiculous views - should he be riding Championship ? He's averaging 2.64 according to the latest green sheets and that's hardly persuasive. I don't think Bowtell is a dirty rider either but he can be reckless. Reckless isn't dirty, but it can have very much the same result.3 points

To make the regional league system work if 14 teams were racing you could have two 7 team divisions (North and South). Teams could race teams in their own division home and away twice and those in the other division home and away once. That would give 18 home/18 away meetings. The top three in each division could then go forward to the league finals meeting each of the other five teams home and away before the top two teams meet in the League Finals. The points from all meetings up to that point would be added together to decide the top two meaning being top of your division would be worthwhile. The 8 teams who were not in the finals could be split into two groups of four (3 meetings at home and 3 away) with the top from each group meeting for the National Trophy. All this gives a full fixture list of meetings that all mean something with no need for any filler competitions and a mixture of local derbies plus the interest of having teams from afar visiting.3 points

But it is difficult to find a rider under a 5.26 that would do a similar job to Richie2 points

If the Wolves can’t get 4 points from this match then they have no business being in the play off hunt. Absolutely vital away win 40-502 points

Farcical guests, but at least it’s saved me going all the way to Ipswich tomorrow. Just not worth the time/fuel/effort when a team is put out like this to just make up the numbers (7). The team is there to fulfil its obligation. Nothing more.2 points

A few excerpts from Steve's interview for Backtrack: Reflecting on his hard man image, that gained him the nickname ‘Steve The Heave’, he recalls: “I think my reputation was more for things that happened off the track rather than on it, because I stuck up for myself. “I never took any crap. If you get pushed about and you don’t stick up for yourself, then the rest of the riders will take advantage. That’s just human nature. “I saw other riders who got pushed around all the time. That didn’t happen with me, because people knew they couldn’t get away with it.” On track, Steve reflects: “I moved riders out of the way. There were certain times you needed to nudge a rider out of the way, and certain times that they wouldn’t move. I felt I had to be aggressive. “There were certain riders who would take you out to the fence and leave you in never-never land, and I didn’t do that. “But if I went into a corner and I was looking to get inside someone, and they moved across to block me, I didn’t like being forced off the throttle. So then I would put pressure on them, and a lot of the guys would buckle under pressure. “It didn’t bother me having to come from the back. I never intentionally took another rider out of a race; I wouldn’t go into a corner and not turn. That wasn’t a safe thing to do in any case, because you’d just go with them. You’d tangle and both end up in the fence. “If you tried to go around someone and got pushed up against the fence, I always thought I was partially to blame for putting myself in the wrong place and allowing them to do it. I should have known better. “If someone rode me rough into a corner, I didn’t go up and bellyache at them. But I remembered what they’d done to me. That was the way I was raised - it doesn’t do any good to yell up and down. “You should be a gentleman and play fair; and if not, then at some point, they’re going to have to race you again.” AND: On July 21, 1980, Swindon travelled to high-flying neighbours Reading for a BL match. Crump had recently returned, after missing the start of the season to set up a motorcycle business in Australia. With Autrey also in their ranks, Robins were keen to prove what could have been had Crump been available for the whole season, in what proved to be an explosive local derby. In Heat 8, Racers’ Jiri Stancl led, while Milan Spinka forced a way under Tony Briggs with Gresham following through the gap. Briggs crashed spectacularly, with Gresham excluded, even though some felt his team-mate Spinka was the one at fault. “From what I recall, I returned the pits and was walking out to the watch the racing (the re-run of Heat 8), when Barry Briggs, Tony’s father, tackled me from behind.” Blows were exchanged and the racing was held up for around 20 minutes. “I never had a problem with Tony over that incident; we never even really talked about it, because it was just racing. “I bumped into Barry not long ago at a race meeting, and I decided to go over and talk to him. It was a private conversation, but we chatted for a couple of hours and we were getting on well by the end of it.” Swindon won at Smallmead by 40-38, but Reading still ended the season as champions. AND: Steve looks back to his decade in Britain with great fondness. “I had a wonderful time. Coming to Britain was the best time in my life. I feel I grew into an adult in Britain. People took care of me, and I met lots of friends and learned how to control my money. “I gave up a formal education to go racing, and my family thought I was crazy. But it was because of speedway that I learnt how to control my money and set up a successful business. I learned about life and don’t regret any of it. “It gave a sense of what life was worth and how to respect other people. “I still go for a ride on my bike every now and then. You don’t forget how to ride and it’s a lot of fun.”2 points

Think we can fit Tobi back in with Vissing in the team. So I guess the slot is Vissing's to lose now. Tobi at 2 is a good shout. Plenty of home meetings coming up.2 points

Thunderstorms in eastern Scotland today, as we all know Scotland is higher then north east England, so putting 2 and 2 together all the wet stuff dropped today will flow downhill to our area, therefore in the interests of safety for riders and spectators, can we call the fixture off early. PLEASE.2 points

He is also never tailed off even when he doesn't score which is promising. If we got a reserve alongside him who can score 5-6 points a meeting then the pressure will be off him a bit and I'm sure he will score better.2 points

I think Tatum summed the track up perfectly when he said he cant remember another track using the clay based topping that gives so much grip . This track is unique in the grip it has. That alone is what saddlebow road has become. over the past few years it has got progressively worse. The racing on the other hand has all but gone. We go there now knowing we will only see processional races with most positional changes done by the start of the back straight. its little wonder the spectacle has all but died. Give me the old track any day... I understand the arguments of the starting procedure, but I don't openly agree with them. I preferred it when starting was a lottery and any of the 4 riders could make a getaway. it created more and better racing, But such is the importance of the start now, when riders of the calibre of Robert Lambert cant recover from a bad gate, it is essential the good riders make them starts. No doubt that's the reason the gate area is made more grippier than the rest. Yes it was a good win against the old enemy, some riders performed very well. But it was not a good meeting. If we couldn't beat the depleted side that Poole put out, then would have been pretty poor....2 points

Wow! Some of your fans slated Redcar for sacking Østergaard after a few matches and then you dump a rider after even less matches! The wages you appear to have saved on staff have gone on " too expensive" Østergaard, so yet another ex Bear becomes a diamond. He will do you a good job tho as he's still got plenty of points left in him. Got to feel sorry for Bukhave getting the boot when there is a worse rider in the team.2 points

Its a pity you can't wipe your arse with faceache , the sun on the other hand is very useful at that.2 points

Folk hoping we get beat isn't vindictiveness, everyone is entitled to support whoever they want . And if folk hate us because they think we're some sort of moneybags club , then that's fine too, I've no issue with that . It won't stop me enjoying going to watch the Tigers home and away .2 points

16/06 Harringay Television Trophy Best Pairs - Waterman & Hunt tied on 16 points with Biggs & Young - WAS THERE AN OUTRIGHT WINNER? I have a very neatly filled in copy of the programme for this but there is no run-off race shown nor any comments written in about any outright winner. It just shows England and Australia tied on 16. There is also nothing in the explanation of how the event will work about how first place will be decided in the event of a tie. Ooops, just seen BL65's post. The compiler was obviously more concerned with neatness than accuracy then! Perhaps he or she felt that writing in another race would spoil the look of the programme!1 point

No it is still the practice. I recently went to a Danish League 2 match where the meeting was abandonned after 11 heats. All four teams had an additional 14 race points for the 9 unraced heats.1 point

The fact is he hasn't progressed in the way he was expected to, many other young riders have caught up and overtaken him (literally), that doesn't mean he can't or won't improve but currently he's even disappointing in the NL.1 point
