  2. There's a Special Offer for this one.. You get to travel for over 400 miles to get there and back from Ipswich Spending lots on fuel and lots of hours on the road.. And then get an opportunity to pay full price upon entry.. "ROLL UP! ROLL UP! FORM AN ORDERLY QUEUE PLEASE"! Maybe offering away fans a discount would be worthwhile, even if not the home fans? Could have flogged £10 tickets at all the Ippo home matches this season, or from when it was announced.. (ex BV meeting in case any Aces fans in attendance that night take up the offer)... In fact Speedway should do a reduced ticket for all away fans, sold from their own circuit.. Maybe more would go? And the current 'morgue like' atmosphere at tracks would improve..

  3. Am I the only person who remembers when we had the majority of top riders in the British League and people were saying "why should BSI be allowed to basically hijack Saturday nights... if it wasn't for league racing there would be no riders to race in the GP, and yet they steal the riders away in precedence to the leagues"...? now people are saying the Polish league should be told they are not allowed to run on the Friday as well as the Saturday...?

  4. I wouldn't say easy, they have a few riders that have had good meetings around our place. One thing is for sure though,i can actually make this one.2nd home match this season, but is only June though

  9. What you say about the lifespan of both is probably on the money. The age of these stadia 1937 Reds; 1950 Town without adequate maintenance means replacement is long overdue so replacement is probably the right option at this time but they need to make provision for speedway somewhere regardless of whether or not the previous promotion have the necessary finance. Its only right in my eyes that they make it attractive for any potentially interested parties who have the vision and determination to bring the Comets back.

  10. Hopefully having Cook in the team will generate friendly rivalry with Ruthless for the no 1 spot and see him start to show his 2018 league form which has been hit and miss thus far

  11. Just shows the folly of all of this? Allerdale spending hundreds of thousands in taxpayers cash to reseed DP in order to bring it up to standard for both football and rugby, exactly the same job will be done on the new stadium, if and when it gets the go ahead, millions to be spent on the project in general which begs the question... if Allerdale had just spent a "few" million bringing "both" existing grounds up to an acceptable standard then the speedway track could easily have been retained and kept for future re use when required, instead, they chose to build one new stadium for two crap outfits and condemn the most successful sport we had into the realms of obscurity? I was told that, during the recent local election canvassing, that both grounds had a finite lifespan (within 5yrs) in their present condition which would have seen the H&S executive declare both to be unfit for public use therefore the new stadium was essential for the survival of both Reds and Town, I asked about the Comets and why they were not included in this and he replied, with a cheap smile on his face that, DP was there for them to use but she (Laura) had no money to invest so....goodnight Vienna? Cant see anyone crazy enough now to try and bring speedway back in the context of having to find a completely new home/track/team/support services/access etc for possibly a couple of seasons depending on the level of support as it's just not now looking a viable proposition, with DP still on the cards then yes, a chance but, in my opinion, not even a slim one especially on viewing those pix of the current state of affairs? Happy memories from the Comets, we just wont be making any more of those!!

  12. i think in the short term nothing, longer term i don't know. If financial problems hadn't precluded Comets running in 2019 then in the absence of any other current option it would have been their home certainly for the next 2 years and probably longer. Bearing this in mind then, the extent of damage that has subsequently been done to the track is way different to what would have happened if Comets had been running in 2019. The question is then, what has/ or is going on for Town to change the scope of work to the extent where they have probably precluded speedway ever being run there again ???. Town are the ones with least to lose here because even if the Community Stadium doesn't happen then they have got a brand new pitch costing circa £100K and got rid of Speedway . On the face of it that is very poor form indeed and unless there is another plan (i'm dreaming on THJ) then its nothing short of dispicable by all parties concerned.

  13. While you continue to have a good deal of talent coming through the ranks from a wide range of European nations who can travel to the likes of Poland with relative ease, the Polish authorities will not give a fig what the rest of the speedway world thinks. Britain has no chance of ever getting back the status it once had as the place for riders to hone their skills in one of the best league sets ups that use to exist. That may have happened by default and largely due to the relative ease of access that riders had to the U.K. compared to Eastern Bloc countries many many years back. The FIM don’t seem to be the controlling force they once were and all in all the sport has become fragmented with different factions seeking to take care of ‘number one’ As for the U.K. they should start to plough their own furrow. Afterall Poland says it is their way or no way so why not bite the bullet in the U.K. and start from scratch. Build leagues with what you can afford with riders who will commit to ride here and also improve the ‘employment terms’ so that riders are not dumped at the drop of a hat. Build some loyalty to the team and work with them rather than treat them as commodities and most of all the clubs in the U.K. should unite to promote the sport as a whole and not occasionally at local level. When it gets to a position of strength it might then be able to stick two fingers up at the Poles and the FIM. Until then it remains a lap dog.

  14. Lambert had as much speed as anyone else when in front and looked no worse than anyone other than the winner when behind. Not sure why you are singling him out. Changing lines for most last night resulted in losing ground, and don’t forget he was out after every track grade and watering. Two semis out of two is pretty decent going for him, all he lacks really is the experience and a bit of nous at times round the first two bends. For me parts of the GP series are a bit tired and need freshening up, Krsko and Prague are of little interest due to the racing and there are too many riders knocking around who have been in and out for years but will never win it ie Lindback, Iversen, Kolodziej, Zagar, Sayfutdinov etc and it’s all a bit samey.

  18. I take it all back. Hats off to the lads and excellent performance. Ive given lasse some stick but that was his best performance ever at brough - well done. Max was superb and rest of the lads gave a 100%. Special praise go to Wallinger ………… who improved with every heat (Berwick riders take note) Difference between to the 2 teams - attitude. One team wanted it tonight ………. another was beaten before the start and ive never seen such as limp performance from the bandits at Newcastle for quite a while. To be fair the bandits reserves tried their best (although why Garcia was doing a wheelie to the tapes for heat 9 when his team was being hammered frankly summed up berwicks bizarre performance) and starke tried as his does and did his job but the rest well. Summers - missed the gate twice and was punished both times. But Jakobsen was awful and unrecognisable from last time.............. but Gappmaier and Etheridge were AGAIN an utter disgrace ….. again no attempt to even try and both could learn a lot from Wallingers attitude …. who learned how to ride the track and improve in 4 races. I expect any 6 point rider to ride any track ………. geez Brough may be a technical track but its not impossible to ride. Nice to see so many Bandits fans down … pity the team gave them so little to cheer for

  19. Not as simple as that. With the Bandits financial situation the use of club assets is paramount. Gappmaier is usually pretty solid at home, but away from home (Sheffield apart) he’s usually worse than useless. Etheridge is clearly still carrying an injury. Coty Garcia and NBJ were way down on their last Brough Park scores. Too much pressure on Aaron Summers tonight, but young Leon rode above what was expected of him. The Diamonds were just too sharp. Nothing wrong with the track, in fact I’ve seen it a lot heavier in the past with most riders struggling.

  20. I believe that in American football the tv company showing the live match insist that the stadium is full. So on the day of the event free tickets will be given to passing "fans" so that the stadium looks good for tv and sponsors....

  23. Well, we were as pish as the track was! P45s should be threatened really with some individuals! If we want to progress in competitions we need people who are going to score home AND away! One positive.. take a bow Leon Flint! Think we are going to have to have to enjoy him whilst we can!

  24. Congratulations to Newcastle on their win, they now go on to face Edinburgh and have a good chance of making the Final. Sadly for Berwick as most expected six points from last night was never going to be enough and so it proved though I did think if we were to go out of the KOC it wouldn't be under a bit of a wimper. The score charts dont lie, and its clear where the weaknesses were, and I dont just mean Gappmaier.

  29. Sad that Zach has felt the need to make this decision, but I fully understand and support it. Good luck on the grass and long tracks Zach, come back to the shale stronger when you're ready. On a selfish note, I hope he told Rosco a few days ago and the Robins were able to re-declare to the authorities before the average changes? Finger's crossed!

  32. Apart from a couple of races I found this event boring, Tatum and Pearson where obviously under instruction to big it up but their misplaced enthusiasm (often after yet another procession) was frankly embarrassing, that is when you could actually decipher Tatum's slurred words (what is it he crams into his mouth in the latter stages of most meetings?).

  35. Thats exactly beerhuts point There should be a collective agreement. It could persuade more to buy a season ticket (as currently they are generally poor value - miss more than 1 for a holiday and you are out of pocket) It would then also encourage more to travel - often its not just the few quid but more the gesture of goodwill that as important Same with discounted TV matches - it should be the norm

  41. A few good races but on the whole it was fairly processional, the fact that it was close helped especially towards the end but riveting entertainment all night it wasn’t. The referees need to get a grip on rolling starts because one or two got away with it tonight and it isn’t fair on the others. We watched the practice on Friday , well for a few minutes anyway because it was dire and we switched over. My view on practice is it’s either compulsory for everyone or get rid of it altogether.

  42. Although the crowds weren't great they stood up pretty well against the majority of Championship clubs that i visited last season. The level of sponsorship the club were able to generate was vital and obviously not enough to adequately offset costs over a number of seasons.. We all know about the additional costs the club had to pay for rent and a requirement for unrealistic numbers of stewards which didn't help. As you say Speedway is currently in decline in the UK but we have to hope that the people running the sport can come up with the inspired changes to turn it around before it declines further. Funny you appealing for a millionaire to start the sport in Carlisle after stating that it's is dying on its a**e. The irresponsible people who have butchered the track at Derwent Park have in my opinion precluded speedway being ridden there ever again and for me there has to be some accountability for that. The most realistic way that can happen is for the Council to get behind any initiative to re-site the club. What is needed is for a person, group or company to show the vision and determination to bring it back. If this happens i believe that in the longer term what is happening now could ultimately prove beneficial to the longer term sustainability of the club.

  43. And all that success is seemingly worthless as MF has something which no-one wants to buy ( except possibly Buster Chapman at a knockdown price ). As he has taken so much cash out of the club over the years, when the terraces were heaving, he turned out to be another who never bothered to at least maintain his track reasonably. As for saying how much you lost on a recent match - how is that going to attract a buyer ( except the aforementioned Buster with £10k in his pocket)? Do UK speedway clubs have any value except to a gambler like Buster? But when the New Dawn era finally arrives all will be well - do you think?

  45. Years ago I remember when someone like Barry Briggs came to Halifax for a league meeting, there was a special buzz and an obvious spike in attendance because this, apart from a possible international, was likely to be his one and only appearance at the track for the year. Those special times are gone. As world champion, I doubt if the presence of Jason Doyle attracted a single extra person through the turnstile, with all due respect to Jason. When the same teams and faces are appearing week in and week out, meetings become less meaningful and the sense of anticipation is diluted. The formation of one big league was the salvation of speedway in the 60's, maybe it could be again.

  47. If we were full strength last night we would have won easily. We picked up a paltry 10 points from Brady and Klindt rides. Our 1-7 is fine if they are all there. Both Brady and Jack have shown stride forward this year. Bar a couple of riders they are as good as any other heat leader in the league. And Josh has shown fine form in recent meetings. Nothing to worry about and we will make the playoffs. From there it’s anyone’s chance to win it. Last season I thought we were weaker than this year and look what happened. We will be there when it matters.

  48. What Mr Ford did mention was supporters getting used to success and that sometimes it's best to give them second place and leave them wanting more. At a time when league speedway is set-up for a win at all costs, perhaps we may revert to a time when supporters were interested in watching their team, their riders, no matter how good, and that winning isn't the be all and end all.
