  1. But records will always so that he is, he is the only 3 time world champion. That's a fact. Any other form of measurement is pure opinion.

  3. Pretty impressive. I went the the Lokeren memorial meeting on that sunny sunday all those years ago. Sometimes i wish you could bottle those moments in time and visit them again!

  5. People sometimes forget just how good Ray Wilson was i would say from 1967/73 he was in the top 10 /15 riders in the world. His record generally does not show that but i believe he was.Boocock/2 / Betts Wilson, Simmons,Collins, Jessup, Ashby,Louis, (ect) what a generation that was.

  7. Riss has spent three (?) years at Edinburgh, not sure he struggles on tight tracks.

  8. For a number of clubs the profits that are produced for the catering does not go into the clubs pockets it goes into the pockets of the landlords of the stadium, and they have very little or no say in what is served up. Having viewed on FB some of the stuff that Barry Bishop eats, I would be very wary of anything that is homemade by him.

  9. Can’t you get there with your scooter? Take a few pics of the rats around Leicester !!! You’ve got all day as a pensioner And That is a brilliant record. They should let you in free all season

  10. The car park only holds about 230 cars and is always full unless you get there really early. I did use my scooter for the last few matches but unfortunately it has gone wrong and the new one doesn't fit in the car. I know I can use the buggy and I have done, as long as the driver is dog friendly. I am not giving up without trying anyway as this is my 70th Speedway season.

  13. just think how much support you would get if people knew it was there, across the road is a massive shopping centre with thousands of people, who have,nt got a clue, I saw a large notice board there ,WHATS ON IN THIS AREA, guess what was missing ! since the track was built never seen one advert for the sport , why nobody as put a bike on display outside Tesco,s is a no brainer it,s the best kept secret round here, but people who run speedway have never had a clue. anyway went in the local pub sunday no mention of it there ,the good thing is nobody will moan about noise ,whey will think the roads are busy with traffic.

  14. Saw quite a lot of Fundin when he signed for the Aces in 1967. He was obviously still a top class rider, though apparently Hyde Road was not a particular favourite of his, not that you would have known from watching him. The first home meeting after he won the world title was against Newcastle. He came round on the tractor with the World Championship trophy, won his first two rides and then was beaten third time out. Who was the Newcastle rider to beat him? It's not the obvious answer....

  15. With difficulty. Belle Vue stadium management (note not the speedway club) agreed to host the event before the PL and their riders were blacklisted. The SCB attempted to threaten BV with expulsion from the league, but by then the NL position was so weak (Norwich were known to be closing) that the Aces simply threatened to go PL and the SCB folded. (Despite the blacklisting still being in place the Aces rode two late season challenge matches on PL tracks without any repercussions.)

  18. But the records do not show the standard of the opposition So it's never a level playing field when comparing riders from different eras Woffinden, most successful? Probably Best of all time? Possibly but not definitely

  20. Same as you Iris i never saw Craven or Knutsson either but not to worry eh.Some of those i named i saw alot of so a huge bias is there you tend to do that without realising.Ashby a prime example apart from Norden 1975 wtc and winning the superama he never showed his true worth his World class record in all honesty was modest he was better than that.

  21. You ask how Tai would get on with a one night final - Given that he has won GPs and also topped the qualifier heats at GPs a number of times I would say he wouldve been just fine Interesting you use this as a yardstick yet claim Morton and Jessup who dudnr manage one off wins as better.....

  22. I agree there.Just a pity I missed Fundin,Harrfeldt and Plechanov etc at their best

  23. The era was certainly a special one no doubt about that and all those you named deserve to be mentioned.Wilson for me is in a group of riders who were alot better than there bare results show Adams, E.Boocock, Ashby,Sigalos,Autrey, P.Crump are other examples.

  24. Let's get back to good news... Racers Move Closer To Home. The air is full of excitement and methanol fumes as the Reading Speedway management team have made a shock last minute switch in their plans for the 2019 season. The exiled Racers team will still take their place in the Midland & Southern Development League but will now race their home matches just down the M4 at Swindon after travelling to Eastbourne for the last two seasons. Racers' Emma Pike contacted the Wiltshire club when there were rumours concerning the future of the Eastbourne raceway at the end of last season, but there seemed to be no chance of a move. With Eastbourne continuing to race but moving the Development League matches to Sundays- where they would stage stand alone matches - the club were all set for another season in Sussex. However a last minute offer from Robins co-promoter Lee Kilby proved to be too good to turn down for the bosses of the nomadic team. Emma quickly asked team managers Gene Carter and Mat Stevens to contact the riders who had already committed to 2019 to ensure they could accommodate not only the change in venue, but also in race night. The Racers will stage six "home" league matches which will follow Swindon's Premier League contests on either Monday or Thursday nights. Emma commented "While we remain ever grateful to the Eastbourne management for continuing to accommodate us, this was really a no-brainer. We're so excited to be able to offer all those Reading fans that have missed seeing their team for so long, the opportunity to travel just along the M4 to see the winged wheel on track again. Also we hope to take advantage by securing more sponsorship, which as an amateur club with no income, we rely on massively." While Swindon is currently the closest the Racers can possibly get to racing in Reading, the management team haven't given up on bringing the club home and their fourth member, Andy Griffin, has been busy meeting people regarding the search for a suitable site. With Kilby's addition to the promotional ranks at Swindon, the club agreed it is important to support the Development League level of the sport. Lee stated "We're really happy to help the Racers get on track a bit closer to home, with the added bonus of giving the Robins fans some extra value for money. We'll be offering six extra heats of action at no extra charge on the gate at least six times during the season, which is great news" Emma and her team wished to express their gratitude to Lee and rest of the Swindon management for facilitating this arrangement, as the clubs now confer on dates for the Racers matches, with full details to be released soon.

  25. There are at least 5 there who you named, who were not anywhere near Wilson's level Valentine a very strange choice of course he was very talented.

  26. I have also been watching the sport for 50 years and I think Woffinden is the best, as others have said it would be interesting to know who you think is better?

  27. Just checked on the go website, the senior concession has gone up to £20. I think that is a bargain for a go, never mind a go at a great stadium. Don’t think you get a seat on the start gate area, but I was always a 3rd bend Belle Vue fan. There is lots of choice and I used to phone to book my seats and ask for end of row seats so ease of getting out to go to loo. Mind, I used to book very early so had that choice available. re the lift, they not going to stick seniors up on the 3rd tier without easy access. As I said, the lift was their, but we could make the stairs, I appreciate others can’t. you could always phone to book your ticket and make an enquiry.

  28. OK, so I'll chime in now.....I also saw my first Speedway meeting at New Cross in 1959, went to most meetings in 1960, 61 and 63 before following West Ham in 1964 until their close in 1972. Just as a side note, also saw West Ham in the two meetings in Holland before the disaster in 1970. Back to NX.....great little track.....wish it were still there!

  32. Have to add it’s a uninspiring team line up Lambert apart it’s a championship side certainly not one that will bring in more support in my opinion - that said they did very well last season so who knows - trouble with what you say about waiting 10-12 meetings in will that be too late in a very short season in a 7 team league ?

  33. These are not arguments, merely opinions.. I waited along time for us to be champions of that top league, and unfortunately last year we missed out yet again. I expected far better from the Stars management this year enabling us to be in contention from the start for that elusive crown, but again have been let down. My opinion is that standard of the league is probably the weakest we have ever seen. Our team, as it is, although a spirited bunch, is a top rider missing. If the team is retained throughout the season ahead we will struggle to make those PO's , whereas if Niels ( or similar) is co-opted in as second heatleader we immediately come comparable. For that to happen, the number game will be governed by the rider who is under performing ... Then Riss will make an excellent 3rd heatleader......

  34. I agree ,far to much time wasting ,do they really need to go back to the pits when they have rarely got as far as the first bend when the red lights come on .

  35. Not King. But Hans and a 3 pointer..... Hans and Simon Lambert ?(I know)or another 3 pointer vs Ty and Kasper. I know Simon isn't everyone's cup of tea, and Kasper should be on the up,but he averaged more than Kasper in 2018 and it would allow Hans in. Hans would do PUKS job. Add 1 more well thought out change mid season and you would of had have a top side... Well maybe

  36. I believe the Stars scored 16 points away from home in 2018, best in the league. I will be surprised if they score any away with that team, sadly. If you take the away points off of last seasons total, Lynn wouldn't of even made the play offs. It's a worry... NKI or someone of his quality is going to cost us big time, if no changes are made along the way. Take a look at last seasons away averages.. I want them to win the league as much as anyone else, but after last season Buster said Lynn were going all out to win it this season. It don't look like it to me. If you look at Busters 3 teams on paper, it looks like Peterborough are his " beloved team" so to speak. Frustrating from where i'm sitting.. Robert 8.27 NKI 7.62 Ty 5.80 Erik 5.47 TJ 4.68 MPT 5.22 Lewis 3.87 Kasper 2.86 I don't like being negative, but after last season I was expecting more. Nothing against any of the 7 riders at all, but not as a 1-7 .I will be along to the AFA this season, but as before will pick and choose my meetings.

  37. Berwick will have one definite starter in the British Under-21 Final as Leon Flint has been seeded directly to the Final on April 27th. The other seeded riders are Robert Lambert, Dan Bewley, Nathan Greaves, Jack Smith, Kyle Bickley, Drew Kemp, Jack Thomas, Tom Brennan, Zach Wajtknecht.

  38. It's clear from these comments that regardless of tracks, it's really the people who most matter. I've followed my beloved Brummies for the last 66 years and I know that speedway people are the best people in the world, so whichever team you decide to follow, enjoy a great season.

  39. Eric Riss is for me THE one to watch ( now that Robert has already climbed to the Top fo the Averages and proved he is a Star's legend at a relatively young age ) Riss is capable of doing almost as much as Robert IMHO.

  41. I see the tigers have linked up with the Sheffield Steelers ice hockey. They are going to offer a some kind of discount to the Steeler's season ticket holders which is great news but they could by missing a MASSIVE opportunity here. Why not offer £5 a meeting vouchers to be used for say 2 meetings valid until the end of April to ALL Steelers fans. There will be over 7000 fans at the ice hockey on Saturday night! Both sports are very family orientated with ice hockey season just about to finish and the speedway about to start.

  42. That’s a fair point but I was more thinking of a club specific one which can be used to be alerted to news etc and to use instead of a programme on race nights.

  43. Cramlington was full of black faces when the pits were there! Went to see a Millwall game 4 months ago, New Cross has big ethnic population, but very few in the New Den. Most of the white faces have moved to Kent.

  45. At the risk repeating myself...……….best food are the Isle of Wight specials. The chicken curry (personally made by Barry Bishop) is the best home made I have ever tasted and the sausage casserole is almost as good. At £3.50 for a plate full with a lump of bread, I usually have two helpings and skip a meal to have it. The only one that came close was when John Anderson was running Berwick. Those burgers were fantastic.

  46. Birmingham - in Dave Mason and Laurence Rogers 2 guys who want to provide entertainment and to improve their Club. Based on where you live however, I would say Eastbourne, been so impressed with all they have tried to do this winter, as the previous Poster said, their new website and link with Speedway Portal sets the bar higher than anyone apart from possibly Glasgow and their social media. I think if I lived down there I would certainly give them a try but try Brummies first!

  47. Do you think any current promotions genuinely give a toss about bringing on young uns? The vast majority of M/SDL teams are all organised and run by devoted individuals despite clubs/BSPA best attempts to hold them back (i agree the NJL is a little different). Until everyone stops thinking about the next meeting and has a genuine view to the future there will be no future.

  48. its a double edged blade , its going to cost £5 to park your car and £3 to get out ! plus a tenner to watch press n practice . well 5 of the riders any way .
