Gavan is by far not the worst disliked poster on here at all. There are way more candidates that fill that role with much more ease. Gavan makes many reasonable and sensible posts. Some posters do have serious issues with some others on here! Still, each to their own!6 points

If there is such a thing not worth the paper but is written on. Legally riders are free to ride for whoever they wish.2 points

Anybody who gives a toss about Speedway should as every time we use a track it's much needed money going into the sport. Rye House for one still has Speedway riders learning their craft there but the track would be closed if it weren't for flat track for sure. Secondly there is quite a crossover between riders going from one sport to the other, it works both ways. Thirdly a high percentage of those who go racing flat track end up as spectators at Speedway meetings and many become fans. Finally it's blokes racing motorbikes which is always good!2 points

Hoping to try something different and get train down to the SGP qualifier at Lamothe Landeron, France. Are the dates and venues set in stone, as train is already very expensive, and doesn't appear to be masses of local accommodation. Also how early do the federations submit their entrys for these events. I will be less keen if the sole Brit out there is not gonna be competitive.1 point

When the Second Division was formed back in 1968 the idea was to produce a constant flow of British talent who many would progress and compete in the higher tier. It was a very successful formula in its formative years and I can only think how many riders who competed at Eastbourne and later turned their talents to Division One, Dave Jessup, Gordon and David Kennett, Malcolm Ballard, Trevor Geer, Bobby McNeil, Paul Gachet, Neil Middleditch, Roger Johns, Steve Weatherley, Eric Dugard and much later the likes of Martin Dugard, Dean Barker and David Norris when the leagues had drifted very much apart. I do wonder if any other team produced so much talent...Belle Vue and Ipswich probably the obvious choices. As a supporter of Oxford I got to see many of these riders at Cowley due to our promotional tie up taking part in the old second halves and think myself very lucky that I was able to enjoy watching so much talent. Of course we also got to see many Peterborough riders (Richard Greer and John Davis instantly come to mind amongst others) who went on to ride in Division One. I do wonder if the demise of the ethic of the old Second Division and later New National League and much later the effect of 'Stewkesbury Plan' began to create the problems British Speedway now faces with the lack of British talent that was once abundant and Britain ruled the world in speedway terms?1 point

In truth form in Oz means little. Tungate and Masters have been recent champions! Lidsey however is the exciting one that should make the difference. Looking forward to watching him. Fricke made good progress last season. I expect something similar this season too.1 point

Melvin ******* Stewkesbury I personally hold him 50% responsible for Hackney's demise after he convinced/conned 3 other teams to dump the old National League so his precious team wouldn't step up a league single handed - took what was then a great league and ruined it - it has been been the same since. Not only did the league loose Poole Wimbledon Berwick and Ipswich but Eastbourne closed both Hackney and Milton Keynes were gone within 18 months1 point

23rd of October and the next meeting at Lokstedt. It would go down as the last big night of the season. It would go down as the last night before the world changed with the Wall Street crash on black Thursday.Germany, already unstable would see an acceleration into mass unemployment and the rise of the Nazis The evening saw the climax of the Grand Prix.In the first of the quali heats Burrill had bike problems while in a qualifying spot and so Arnold Stölting passed to join Len Myerscough in the final.Stölting ended as the oly german in the final as Bill Kellner made a quick start, thought the heat would be restarted and slowed, just as everyone else got going and left him for dead...In the final Joe Abbott had problems,so yet again the Lees-Abbott clash failed to materialise. So,it was only Myerscough who could mount any sort of challenge to Ginger, but it wasn't to be and the most consistent, probably most ppular rider of the season won out in the end and was greeted t a loud round of applause on his lap of honour!! There was also a 3 team international Germany v England v Denmark with 6 rider heats and a 7-5-4-3-2-1 scoring system Ht1:Sörensen,Andersen,Niss,Strachwitz,Ryle,Drews(fell) Ht2:Abbott,Sörensen,Chiswell,Rye,Andersen,Ryle Ht3:Abbott,Chiswell,Stölting,Niss,Rye,Strachwitz Stölting came in as reserve for the injured Drews in Ht 3 and so it ended England 28(Abbott 14,Chiswell 9,Rye 5) Denmark 22(Sorensen 12,Andersen 7,Ryle 3) Germany 15 (Niss 7,Strachwitz 4,Stölting 4,Drews 0) The final of the Golden Helmet had an unusual look to it.Fritz Niss didn't make it through his heat.Johannes Wunder was out injured and Heinrichs and Heck were totally out of form and so it ended up a close hard race between Drews and Stölting, which Drews won,Werner Schauer came in 3rd as Strachwitz could only poodle round as his bike was playing up. The usual Handicap final was yet again won by Ginger Lees.In his quali heat he could make up the handicap of 1 second on Len Myerscough, but got the better of him when it counted. The ever awaited clash between Lees and Abbott was again an anti-climax as Abbotts bike as ever had problems. In the press it was questioned as to how every time Abbott was supposed to clash with Ginger his bike played up.In every other heat such as the evenings International 3 tt,he rode without trouble.....1 point

17th March cannot come too quickly for me. I cannot wait and have the added bonus of being able to bring my dog to the stadium (the 4 legged one) not to mention Scott Nicholls . Have had a couple of years in the ''speedway'' doldrums with work commitments and fixed race nights not to mention the grieving over Coventry closing (I appreciate this sounds a tad dramatic but it made me very sad ). Onwards and upwards! See you There Gemini x1 point

With regards to the disclaimer, this was Ian Jordan's (Eastbourne's new co-promoter) reply to somebody questioning it on Facebook: "The BSPA have strict entry forms and procedures which have to be completed to their timescales and they include interviews and also Fixture planning and Bond payments. This is an ongoing process that ourselves and Birmingham are going through at the moment and once all is completed ratification will be confirmed. We have to work to the prescribed agenda though and thats what both the new Clubs are currently in the process of doing."1 point

As Adonis has Quoted Previously the Lights went out after Shelby hit the Fence the reason being as he hit the fence the fence hit and severed the cable of the Red Light on the post behind the fence thus causing a short circuit that put the Lights out so were not the cause of the accident.1 point

Great! Any particular shade of yellow? Hi-Viz yellow perhaps, or a gentler shade of dandelion? Lemon Yellow maybe? Take your pick, which would you prefer? I dare anone to tell the difference between Banana Yellow and White on a wet muddy day after a few heats of use.1 point

It also gives piss poor and perennial 3.5 point journeymen , the opportunity to take to social media with 5-6 point tallies, claiming they have had some sort of revelation and are the new Tai Woffinden . The reality of course is they have taken the extra points from raw beginners , won't stop their nearest and dearest and one or two hangers on ,from blowing an 1800's style London "pea souper" up their arses though . neither will it stop the pitiful excuses when some of the raw beginniers start to find their feet and beat them !1 point

In lieu of nobody more informed responding I'd say GP riders make a decent living from the sport but nowhere near the earnings of even a standard NBA player. So I'm guessing that the comparison is with a factory supercross racer. In terms of league racing, they're all effectively Privateer's, signing contracts per season rather than being employees of a club. They aren't paid during the close season and they finance all their own equipment. Therefore, some have jobs during the winter and some supplement their speedway career with work during the season. I hope that's useful and a fair comparison. I'm sure someone more informed will be along shortly.1 point

I would add Nick Morris and Kenneth Bjerre for sure, plus hopefully Luke Becker and Kyle Howarth1 point

Nothing is perfect Sidney and speedway is far from it.I have a good moan on here every now and then as we all do. But my point is that we and others still find enjoyment in the sport and attend meetings.Whats not to like about the racing I see every meeting at the NSS,i to love to watch the young riders improve I watch all the Colts meetings as well and I am very much looking forward to watch Lidsey ride next season and that's why I come on a speedway forum to read and talk speedway.because I still have an interest in the sport There is much wrong with our sport but I still enjoy the bare bones of the sport the racing and if I ever get so disillusioned with the sport and it Pee's me of that much that I no longer enjoy any of it I will just walk away and find another interest and you will never here me moaning on about why I fell out with the sport on here I will just find pastures new and leave the forum for people who still enjoy speedway to talk about speedway no one wants to be bored to death reading about the reasons why I will have fell out with the sport people will form their own opinions without any help from me.Plus I will be busy doing something new.1 point

Sorry to but into the Lynn thread. But I have to say I can understand that people can lose their love/ interest in anything for whatever reason. But what I cannot understand is if you have lost your love /interest in anything in this case speedway why o why do you need to come on a speedway forum and even watch it on tv (a GP goes on for three and a half hours with only seven extra heats). I lost love/interest in my first wife I do not stalk her on face book etc I have had no contact in 25 years and I moved on and re married.I lost interest in football I could not tell you the name of anyone who now plays for my ex team and I do not watch it on tv my interest is now with speedway.I have moved jobs a few times over the years I have no idea how my ex companys are doing I have no interest I concentrate on my new job and how my new company is doing. All I am saying is that you have to move on in life find new love/interests and enjoy them and leave the past behind I think you will find life's a happier place.1 point

No 1 person. its ok to have an opinion and many of us agree. Get the meeting tied up as close to 9 as possible. That's great. But the people who don't go any more and like to keep mentioning it as if they are important moaning about everything they weren't even there to witness sometimes after years. Knocking the team/ promotion at every opportunity. It gets annoying to read. Every poster should have an attendance record. Thanks for alerting that you don't attend though. I know to take it with a pinch of salt. Would be interesting to know what other regular attendees think. Do they really miss you. Do they even rate your opinions as even. I don't. But maybe I'm wrong I stand by it though. I take the opposite view. I'm so glad you don't come! Miserable buggers.1 point

The 16th October saw another big crowd(est 20,000!!,double the previous meeting) turn up and were rewarded with a super meeting. The Golden Helmet races also doubled as qualifiers for German entry into a Grand Prix competition.Drews thrilled the crowd in the final with a last gasp sweep past Fritz Niss on the final bend to take the 5 points, with Kellner 3rd and Heck falling. The Danish qualifier for the Grand Prix was won by Niels Sorensen followed by Andersen and Ryle. With the Preston team staying in Hamburg there were two English GP qualifiers. The first was of course yet another win for Ginger with a decent time of 76.7 ahead of Claude Rye and ham Burrill.Surprisingly Joe Abbott was beaten in the 2nd quali by Len Myerscough and Frank Chiswell 3rd.A couple of handicap races saw Lees again win,but two of his main rivals had trouble.Myerscough's bike played up and Frank Chiswell had a poor start. The 2nd saw Abbott finish a poor 4th as he couldn't come to terms with his handicap. The heat was won by the Dane,Andersen in front of Jimmy Stevens and Herbert Drews. The main handicap final was also somewhat a let down as the awaited Lees-Abbott clash didn't happen because Ginger failed to qualify.Werner Schauer won with a super race in front of Abbott,Sörensen,Werner,Plambeck and Andersen The next meeting on the 20th saw another great crowd turn up in Lokstedt. It is estimated between 20-25,000 turned up,and this after 20,000 had attended a Germany v Finland football match nearby.Busses were on hand to shuttle any football fans that wanted to attend the Dirt Track meeting. The next round of qualification heats for the GP were this time mixed, rather than national. In the first Joe Abbott won and qualified for the next round fairly confortably. One reason was Frank Chiswell had to sit the race out with an injury. The germans Stölting and Heck also qualified. The 2nd heat saw Lees win with ease, but a big surprise was Bill Kellners 2nd place ahead of such riders as Claude Rye and Fritz Niss.who went out of the competition as Andersen managed to finish 3rd.The last heat saw a thrilling race between Myerscough and Burrill racing shoulder to shoulder.Adding to the thrills was a fall by Count Strachwitz when in the lead and also Drews falling which meant Niels Sorensen made the vital 3rd place Again the Hamburger Rad heat also had Kellner as the surprise winner over 4 laps, this time. The more fancied riders had problems.Heinrichs fell on the 1st la and then Hecks bike played up Fritz Niss finished way behind Kellner.Johannes Wunder had been away in Denmark for the last few meetings. In a consolation race for those who hadn't qualified for the next GP round,Herbert Drews showed his improving form and won ahead of decent English riders like Jack Chiswell and Claude Rye.The clash between Lees and Abbott in the main handicap final failed to materialise yet again. This time Joe didn't get through his round, but the race turned out to be a thrilling battle between Ginger and Max Plambeck. One overtaking the other, but the inevitable happened and Lees crossed the finish line ahead.Jack Chiswell 3rd and Niss 4th1 point
