I have a couple of months break from this place because it was getting boring reading the same people posting the same bull. Come back and this is one of the first things I see. Attention seeking still. Absolute saddo.7 points

Tomorrow Martin and I head off for the AGM in Rugby where I hope we will have a constructive and positive meeting about the NL and how we take it forward. I have been reading on Social Media and I do understand the concerns being voiced about what our league will look like - how many teams, points limit, number of riders per team, competitions and so on... but we will strive to do the best we can for the league and present our ideas for the benefit of all. We will update you as soon as we are permitted. All the best5 points

Doyle confirmed!!! I thought 1) we couldn’t afford him & 2) He would never ride for Swindon again......Goes to show how much poop is talked about on here.5 points

I hear and respect what you're saying. The way I see it, lowering the points limit to 38 is in general being accommodated at the lower end and as you say, forcing teams to include riders who are not necessarily ready for the step up. What has happened to the good old days where riders progressed on merit? This farcical points limit is driving me mad, diluting the CL, forcing riders out of work and killing speedway. I've never had such a downer about the season ahead as I have now and to be honest, I'm past the point of caring which is quite sad for a supporter of the Rebels since they started and a Bandits fan long before that. I will of course continue to support until the day I have nothing to support but many of the supporters I stood with years ago no longer do. I'm probably the last of at least 10. Watch out PL; the 38 points limit will be with you too!4 points

Good on the lad, he'd been spoken to by the bigmoneymen up north, but chose to stay with Redcar because they gave him his first break.4 points

In all fairness the reserves aren't poor although some are probably getting moved up a season early. The problem is that the top end is too strong. Changing the averages would have resolved this IF the promotions had taken it in the spirit it was intended and built strength in depth rather than create vast gulfs in their own teams. Its available in the rules so they have done it but its short sighted as the product as a whole will suffer.3 points

We had the future in watching Drew Kemp blossom and progress and now we don’t !! I shall reserve judgement til I see the full team but I have to say I’m not hopeful. I’m thankful steve Johnston and the drymls have retired otherwise they would be prime candidates3 points

Can we get back to who’s signing or what people would like to see regarding team for 2019 as the thread is just a complete mess, time to draw a line over the past two weeks comments and have some grown up discussion, no offence meant.2 points
-
The sensible thing for the BSPA to do is have two reserve races, that will be more entertaining and give the reserves a chance rather than them getting low points every match and getting demoralised.2 points

Fortunately then it was Harris who made a massive contrabution in us winning the League. That said, it wasnt just a one man team. You need 6 other riders. Personally, i feel Chris's average should be re-assessed. to take into consideration his age and the fact that he would freely admit he is not a No 1. But sadly this is Poole we are talking about..2 points

He also spoke of his enthusiasm for boxing. I thought that had come to an end after his first round defeat by the pits wall at Leicester a couple of years ago? I don't think it will be dull with him around this season, as long as he gets that far without doing something daft.......2 points

Not enough people through the gate to get the money to spend on the Premiership is what is boils down to. If they could afford it, without jeopardising the future of the club, they would be in the top flight no question but they can't so they are preserving speedway racing in Somerset for the 20th successive season. They don't want to be there one little bit but needs must.2 points

It now seems that all those top names reported to have been be in contact with the club. were in fact wishing Carl Johnson Happy Birthday and not looking to sign up.2 points

From what ive seen/read the two clubs have been invited to join the Championship & quite rightly both are taking their time to decide (while the bspa assumed the invitation would be immediately accepted) . At some stage all businesses need to decide if they want to risk being higher in the market place or remain with the solid dependable customer base they have. Id be happy for Brum either way as long they remain afloat and the numbers add up. A lower standard Championship is hard to charge much more admission for, a lower standard NL would almost certainly need a reduction in costs....either way its squeaky time for the Mason's2 points

Don't have a problem with Glasgow paying riders exactly what they want, just don't come out in the Speedway Star moaning you are losing money and things can't continue as they are.2 points

Sad to report Allan Kidd died last night.....he had not been well for a while. Allan Kidd was born in London on June 25th 1929, He rode professionally in the UK for the Poole Pirates during his speedway career and was a one team man! He is one of the few riders to have ridden in all three divisions of the National League, and also the Provincial League . He also helped Poole to win the Third, Second, and Provincial League titles. and to this day they are the only club side to achieved this, and Allan, Ken Middleditch, and Tony Lewis are the only three riders to have won championship medals in all four leagues. A superb feat! He first rode at the High Beech and Rye House training schools in 1949. Allan rode in the second halves at Poole, before signing for the club and making his debut on 31 May 1950. He helped Poole finish runners-up in the Third Division 1951 Third Division Champions and the Festival of Britain Shield winners. 1952 Second Division Champions 1953 Second Division runners up. 1954 Second Division runners up 1955 Second Division Champions 1955 Allan was the first winner of the Johnny Thomson Memorial Trophy He retired from British speedway at the end of 1956, and moved to Canada at the beginning of 1957. In 1959 Allan was ranked Number One in Canadian speedway! Returned to England in 1960 to ride for Poole in the Provincial League. He was appointed club captain and helped the club to finish league runners - up. Allan starred in a television commercial that was shown nationwide in 1960 - 1961 for Players Weights cigarettes. It was in many of the national and local newspapers, and it also included a lady named Valerie, who was a fashion model for one of the big stores in Bournemouth. Allan and Valerie were married in 1955 and at the beginning of 1957 they emigrated to Canada He was also part of the team crowned 1961 Provincial League Champions. He was due to lead the Pirates again in 1962, but seriously injured his back while working for a local steel erecting company during the winter month and never rode again. Allan was a member of the Poole team that made a seven match tour of Sweden in 1953. and again in 1995 he was a member of the Poole team that made an eight match tour of Denmark and Sweden. During this time in the UK at Poole, he completed a respectable point compilation of 1416.5, 25th in all-time points standings!1 point

I could make something up if you want, just to give the gossip merchants something to talk about, however I am not sure the Diamonds Promotion know what their team is yet; let alone anyone else. However here are a couple of names to conjure with; (and I do not honestly have a clue and have not heard any rumours whatsoever). How about Ulrich Ostergaard, raced on a Sunday last year at Peterborough and doesn't have any Polish commitments (as far as I am aware) and could quite possibly be back at Peterborough this year; so may be open to a doubling up spot. Rene Bach is another Dane who may be in the Newcastle (team) sights; Rene is about to be a Dad and stated he didn't really want to race in the UK this coming year, however he said the same last year right up to the end of February and with the Newcastle/Danish and Sapphire Engineering connections who knows. However Rene does I believe have Polish commitments. Matty Wethers performed well in his come back year and Ash Morris is another then include Carl Wilkinson and Danny Phillips as the reserve pairing and there are 6 names. That lot comes in around 31.4 leaving 6.77 for a Brit and 6.6 for a non-Brit so Kus, Heeps, Newman or Wilson Dean would all fit and their may be a Dane or Two spare down at Redcar to borrow; or a new 5 .2 Dane/Swede or that ilk in spot of Rene which would leave around 8.55 for a non Brit and 8.76 for a big hitting No 1 (if there are any left).... However just a total guess and apologies in advance as it is on the wrong thread Regards THJ1 point

With 21 places up for grabs for Busters teams I wonder if the pay rates will be the same for all? Also wonder if he will wait for other teams to be completed... then can offer a take it or leave it offer to riders knowing they have only his 3 teams left?1 point

"Mechanics" usually have jobs and do this for extra money, or know the rider to some extent, and do it for a mate.Maybe the real top guys have a team travel with them all over the world, but I very much doubt it. I wouldn't say most are classed as self employed mechanics. They change wheels, sprockets, maybe clutch plates, alter timing, that type of things, on the night. Usually they don't touch engines, that's a tuners job. I know an ex rider that used to spanner for Mads at £100 a meeting at Lynn. He had a day job. Not saying they don't deserve something/praise, but many are not "self employed mechanics", more like helpers and many do it for peanuts.1 point

It's a forum if I want to discuss his average I will thanks. A 7.16 ave is not a 8 point average whatever way you look at it.1 point
