Finally managed to catch up with Blair`s appearance and my thoughts are this, firstly I hope Blair gets and completes the treatment he was off to start at the end of the show which helps to heal at least some of the rifts that clearly remain within his family and sees him remain clean. Unfortunately I have zero sympathy for him, he has put himself in the situation he is in, and dragged his family down with him, he has lied to and stolen from his close family and split his family asunder right up to the point where his mother has lied to her husband. Whether he can be reconciled with all of his family remains to be seen but hopefully his appearance on tv the other day is his turning point in his life.3 points

If it’s at Rye it should be Rye House Rockets, if you try and appeal to two sets of fans you end up appealing to neither. We saw in 2017 a swing of fans go to Rye instead of Arena as they wanted to see a higher level of racing, that could still happen again especially if you have the odd rider or two with previous Hammers connections. The Hammers are done, at least for the time being, no point in losing another track in the process of trying to keep two sets of fans happy.3 points

BMR are affiliated to the MC Federation (MCF) who licence their flat track series and many off road events as an alternative to the ACU. They were going to be the authorising body for the 'breakaway' individual series to be run by ?the Courtneys? a few years back but the SCB/BSPA managed to get that blocked. Maybe time for another try at shaking things up?2 points

Probably before it runs out, given there is no minimum salary and seems employer can terminate at any time for any reason, so presume rider can too?2 points

All joking aside, I don't understand why the Rye House supporters would not support a homeless team from Lakeside, using their track. If you were happy to go to the stadium to watch Rye House speedway, but were forced to liquidate, surely you would return to the stadium to watch another team? After all, most teams, as we know, are different year on year and during the season. Whatever you call yourself, is virtually irrelevant. I would love to see both teams line up in 2019, but at the moment, it is possibly neither.2 points

There are some differences amongst the fans but I think the core issues about value for money, organisation of fixtures, integrity of the competitions and team identity are a common thread. Just like the politicians tell us that when students go to university, they come out with £50,000 of debt and everyone believes them, the promoters tell us that there aren't enough riders to go round to stop doubling up. Solve this issue and get riders riding every week for one team, rather than pulling on a different race jacket every night of the week and other things may well fall into place. Also, as I said in a previous post, the riders have to realise that they can't all be full time on the crowds we are getting.2 points

Which fans should they listen to? The ones who want one big league at Championship level or the ones who want a stronger top league? The ones who want 13 heats and a second half or the ones who think that 15 heats in a match is better value? The ones who want the play-offs or the ones who don't want the play-offs. The fans who want modern music or the fans who say the music isn't important as it's all about 4 blokes on bikes without brakes? It's all very well saying "listen to fans", but in the end they'll just agree with whichever fans give an opinion that they, themselves, like. Because the fans don't all have the same opinion.2 points

Hi to all Workington Fans. Here is the rub, running in 2019 will be very difficult and honestly it still is in doubt as to whether we will be coming to the tapes next year, however I am proposing something different and developing a business plan (with others) to save the club and to ensure it runs at least for the next three years whilst Derwent Park is still available, what happens after this period we can worry about then. What I am looking for is some commitment from fans; local businesses or anyone who has contact details of anyone who can offer support who I can talk to, the proposal is to form a new partnership (LLP) to run the club. For obvious reasons I can not go into much detail on here however, I do have the bit between my teeth; but I can not do this all on my own. I am working with the promotion to formulate a plan to take the club forward and continue with the sport in Workington. The Club "end of season bash" is at the Workington Railway Club this Friday and I will be open for any discussions then where the plan can be discussed or if anyone would like to PM me I can provide details. The Speedway Trust who have provided invaluable support over the last two seasons and will be heavily involved along with all of the fan base. It is an open secret that the club isn't financially viable and has had cash flow problems, hopefully my proposal will go a long way to correcting this. As the BSPA General Meeting is coming up fast this proposal is time limited unfortunately as certain assurances and guarantees have to be met at the BSPA AGM. So come on Workington how much do you want Speedway, its your call. Once its gone I very much doubt you will ever get it back Regards THJ1 point

Fact is Blair had the bottle to become a professional speedway rider and now has the bottle to appear on national television with the parents he let down so badly and show willing to make amends. This is the first step on the road to recovery and I for one wish him all the best.1 point

You do have a seat at the table and you are entitled to add ideas and discuss the ideas of others, but a 2 year wait to wait to vote on it seems fair to me. Their good ideas can still be put on the table, commented on and voted on.1 point

Thanks for the feedback. It does really show why you would have to be start raving bonkers to invest in a track or a club where you are not allowed at the top table for a few years during which you are told when and how you run your business and any decisions made by those who are at best only considering their own self interest yet they can materially affect your bottom line and you have to accept it even if it makes no sense. They also want you to put up a bond in the knowledge that they can change the rules at anytime that can be detrimental to you and your business and you can do nowt about it and if you pull the plug you effectively get fined even though continuation could leave you with substantial losses. You have a sport run by a few incompetent people and yet next step up in the chain of command is the ACU who are in effect condoning the behaviour of a collective body that is not fit to run the sport. Good luck to anyone mad enough to invest in speedway.1 point

Yes I remember well how he used to be able to manouvre his bike at incredible angles to achieve the desired drive! Shame that his massive potential wasn't realised.1 point

Correct as did Sheffield but they were still under the auspices of the ACU with SCB approval1 point

Remember him well. One of the fastest riders around the Crowley track!1 point

Don't you just wait till March 1st when any rider not being used is fair game? Seem to recall this precedent being set by some club or other four or five years back.1 point

Yeah but there is a certain integrity about it, its like someone trying palm you off with what you know is a fake rolex and insisting its the real thing, as opposed to someone saying hey, this isn't what your looking for but it will do the job and you will be happy and look around at how many others are wearing these, they know what it is and they are happy too. Probably that's a crap analogy but you get my point, there is no pretending to be something they are not.1 point

BMR should not be allowed a licence until all money’s are paid to this years riders end of.1 point

Saturday evening or Sunday afternoons are the only real options to run at Rye......midweek traffic is horrendous,, ,, A ..barely moving M25 is enough to put off the majority coming up from the south of the track........ Old Bob,.I think BMR caused their own problems ,,not the BSPA... Hopefully something can be sorted to keep speedway in the Herts/Essex area......1 point

Being an Aussie it would help his development riding at a smaller tracks, just like Americans would gain from riding a big fast track. Prob why Greg got him over to Poland asap!1 point

Never mind then. Let's just leave things as they are. Let's have an ever decreasing number of them riding for various teams every night of the week whilst their mates (and I'll mention Joe Jacobs again) having to pack in because he can't get a ride. Let's have fans who want a team to support continue to drift away because they can't take the sport seriously (Chris Harris just missing out on the play off's with Glasgow but winning a league winner's medal with Poole and a cup winners medal with Somerset). Just let things continue as they are and see how many riders can be full time then. The answer will be none, because the sport will cease to exist.1 point

Some may regard them as such but many have short memories and the holier than thou brigade would have you believe such.... however I have seen some fantastic meetings at championship an NL level and leave watching the telly to see most so called top teams in action. Regards THJ1 point

It's true that quite often fans want different things but anybody reading through the BSF would see that there are many things that most of us agree about. Most agree that the sport needs to reduce the amount of messing about at the starting gate and the time spent at the pit gate before a re-run. We mainly agree that the presentation needs to be slicker and geared to the 21st century. We agree that the fixtures need to be better planned to provide continuity and to avoid the chaos at the end of the season and we mainly agree that there should be a continuity of riders in teams to allow fans to better identify with "their" team. Any professional organisation would look at those and all of the other issues of concern raised by fans and where fans express different views, analyse those opinions and try to identify remedies that would appeal to the majority and not alienate the rest. What is certain is that any organisation in the entertainment business will fail if it does not provide what it's customers want.1 point

I've had disagreements with Steve but he is not one who generally misreads posts. We all from time to time get things wrong, it's called, being human. I realised what he had done but didn't feel the need to point it out.1 point

A very positive initiative THJ which requires the wider fan base epecially the 'hardcore' supporters to embrace in order that we can continue to have the sport we love. It's not that many months ago that Whitehaven Rugby league apealled for help from the wider community to help raise something like £60K. I was recently informed on good authority that the club are now debt free. If this was possible for them then why not the Comets ?. So come on everyone lets all look very seriously at what we can do to help secure the future of the club. Up the Comets !!1 point

BUT it's not ... riders are considered assets who can be loaned or sold. They are not. They have no contract so can do as they please and it is time British speedway broke the mould and accepted the same freedom of movement that occurs in Denmark, Poland and Sweden to name but three.1 point

He didn’t win a race in the final not good for a number one rider with quite clearly he isn’t Think people look at Harris through rose tinted specs , easily done when he produced the ride to beat Doyle.1 point

Its a bit unfair to single out individuals when there are so many interesting and knowledgeable contributors to this section of the forum . Yes there are also a few numpties who's sole purpose is to wind folk up and also one or two of the nasty variety . But thankfully they are in the minority and the rest of us love the sport and i enjoy the quiet moments reading the various threads . I remember the days when i went to the speedway ; went home and didnt have anyone to talk to about it until the following week , so this forum has been a godsend in that respect . Long may it continue to flourish .1 point

I agree about the fixture list should be completed but if the fixture list was not compiled properly or fixtures changed then changed back again then one can hardly blame the clubs involved. also this was about the third attempt to run the fixture!1 point

Its good to see the stars of the sport at league level but I'd not be worried if they didn't ride to keep costs managable. I want to watch a tight match with good close exciting riding. Who is under the helmet makes no diference to me at league level. The second tier racing is often better than Premier.1 point

A lot of talk on Twitter about not having a points limit. If they did that would that mean we would have to use squads? If not how would it even work??1 point
