  1. Its a consequence of the appalling, selfish actions of the BSPA I had not thought of - and this may not be the last occasion, either. Speedway descends yet lower - if that were possible - by forcing a club to change the dates of their fixtures and when they do, denies them a proper facility for riders absent as a result of the change of dates. 2. I wasn't there. I am a Glasgow fan so no doubt will be told go back to your page and don't interfere. BUT what is wrong with all you people? Poole fans are upset at what happened even those that never normally say anything against there team and yet they and promoter are still getting stick? The rules are clear only the losing team can ask for a track inspection (not Poole). The referee makes the final decision in consultation with both captains and the clerk of the course. So it must have been Leicester that asked the ref to call it of. If the ref agrees with the Leicester riders then its of and nothing the Poole side do or say will change things.

  3. Yes. The same as worky should be allowed to finish their fixtures. It isn't your fault the fixtures were changed. The stupid thing is though., these should have already been raced, there has been plenty of weekends without speedway at every track during the long hot summer.

  5. re arranged fixture from friday to saturday . thank you bspa . you are doing us proud . GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR ONE BIG LEAGUE NEXT YEAR , BECAUSE I WILL NOT BE GOING . you cant even organise 10 home league fixtures . proper muppets run by MINDLESS morons .for the benefit of theme selves . 2 nl guests is a joke . why are we not informed of changes earlier , are clubs scared fans will not turn up ? lets all pray for a weekend of rain then .!

  7. In the proper sense of the word supporters are just that they go and support their team I would imagine most of them are busy trying to earn a living and try to have family time as well.

  8. If the club tell us we aren't allowed a facility for sunday then that is good enough for myself. One thing that is absolutely clear is that something is badly wrong when the supporters and entertainment levels are at the bottom of the list of priorities of those mismanaging the sport. This completely defies logic and is quite simply shocking.

  11. The way Speedway is being run as an entirety at present is not on. Buster Chapman did his best to bring the sport to its knees last year and what has anyone heard from him this year......... not a lot! Same with Godfrey and his telephone advice for which he got away with, you'd think he'd have kept his head down as well, but no, he's had to stick his fingers into the fixture list and balls it up for Friday night fixtures ..... for all but Scunthorpe!

Even if it rains on sunday they will still be needed in poland when its rearranged , what are the changes george english would give us a date when we had a full team esp.with rene at reserve .the sport and NOT the comets management is a joke now and if.someone like me been watching since 1970 is fed up what chance have we got with floating fans turning up .

  17. Call me thick if you like but how the hell can the tide affect the track???????????? When it comes in does it cause a tsunami or something???? Bet the insurance for the houses around are expensive. Hope the residents are good swimmers

  19. I assume the Trust at Edinburgh have an input into the running of the club as the trust does with the Berwick Rangers Trust, Glasgow totally different scenario 2 brothers with lots of disposable income that they seem willing to lose, would be nice to have that at Berwick, SUGAR DADDIES.

  20. Pretty much agree with all that. The meeting got off to a very awkward start and got progressively worse. Presenter Nij started with REF presentations, then introduced the Leicester riders, BEFORE remembering a tribute to the Late Bob Dugard. Embarrassing to say the least. At least everyone in the stadium showed total respect to guy who has had such a major impact on our sport. An impeccable minutes silence, followed by a spontaneous standing ovation. As SS says, a very ordinary meeting, with one or two decent paases etc. Nothing out of the oridinary. Track was a little dusty and NEEDED a watering. I genuinely thought the track looked perfect after the rain, only needing a little grading. NO riders inspecting the track in detail. No track walk. Then the call off. Unreal. The crowd unsurprisingly aggrieved. I am sorry I dont accept the riders view about the slick inside being dangerous. Give it 5 or 10 minutes, with dirt levelled over it, I am sure it would have been ok. After all, our track has been in a far worse condition for most of the season anyway! Send 2 riders out from each team to test it, maybe Kurtz/Harris and Andersen/Nicholls. At least then the fans can see and perhaps understand a little more. Not doing anyone any favours with what happened and the way it happened. If this had been on TV or a Play off, I feel sure it would have continued. A very disgruntled and disillusioned fan, even today. I have to ask myself, why do I bother making a 200 mile round trip, then end up with this? Could have some serious repercussions, crowd wise.

  21. I do actually agree about getting the product right, that has to the main aim but the history of sport is littered with examples of clubs which assumed that the fans would flock through the gates only to be left with a pile of debts. Much is being made of the role of sponsorship - surely this scheme is no more than allowing fans who wish to, and can afford to do so, to "sponsor" the club in addition to paying their admission fee. Not much different to a business owner who sponsors either out of a love of speedway, a sense of duty to his/her town or city, as a publicity tool or to take advantage of tax benefits.

  22. The disturbing thing is that while British speedway has been in decline for many years, it was still relatively successful, and largely self-sufficient. Suddenly, everyone is sitting up and realising that we have now reached the point of no return. There is no single reason for the sport's problems, and unfortunately, there is no single - or easy - fix. Of course, the biggest issue is the finances, and as much as I hate to say it, the riders have to shoulder much of the blame. Thing is, the promoters are equally at fault by spending more than they could afford. I accept that these days, everyone thinks they are special, and that they deserve to be treated as such. That applies to all sports, and as someone who has spent a lifetime in professional sport, I do think that many sports have been ruined by money. I don't have a problem with the top names earning more, but I also feel that their demands shouldn't exceed the supply. We all know that hasn't happened in speedway, and I honestly fear it is too late... Steve

  27. The thread title refers to Workington v Sheffield and this IS a re-arranged fixture. Originally this was to be run on June 9th, but the Stadium Landlords prevented Workington running then as there was a music event at the stadium. The Newcastle v Workington Championship fixture definitely ISN'T a re-arranged fixture as this was in place at the start of the season. Ironically, the Workington v Newcastle Championship fixture was also in place at the start of the season for tonight Friday Aug 10th, but was removed. We would have had Dan Bewley available had the "Committee" not removed it their quest to put us out of business!

  28. Sorry, but Jan was a great reserve last year, but in the main body of the team this year he was pants. Replacing him with Broc was a risk, but the right thing to do as it turns out.

  29. We go to Speedway to hopefully see our own riders if not injured, no offence to Dan and the others who are just trying to make a living and gain experience but it’s the fans and the teams chances of getting silverware that suffer. Hmmm I wonder why people are staying way from meetings.

  30. all very interesting but you are not seriously suggesting that was the reason the meeting was abandoned last night( high tide),bit like last wk saying originally that the oil was a leak from tractor engine, how stupid do they think everybody is ??

  31. Poole have ridden there for at least 50 yrs and now the tide has become an issue this season.Where has the tide been all these years ? Track preparation might be the cause of the trouble IMO .

  32. My prediction, Shovlar to tell us how good the meeting will be and how good the track has been all season. When it's on TV, the track is shite as per usual, Shovlar to come on here defending us telling us it is a one-off. The following week Poole have a meeting that isn't on TV and Shovlar tells us how good the track is once again.

  35. I am totally okay with something like that! I believe that guests are a necessary evil, but that doesn't mean you should be replacing a bunch of lower average riders with guests. For those who continue to compare speedway and football, look at this; when Leicester City won the PL, they relied heavily on Mahrez and Vardy. Not heavily enough though, that should one (or both) be missing from the line-up, they get beaten out of sight. Take a speedway team like Coventry a few years back, who relied heavily on Hancock and Hamill. Take one or both out, and they were screwed. When I said this same thing previously on the BSF, I was told, "That's why teams should have a solid 1-7, with no stars!" Really? Okay, isn't the league watered down enough already? So, just get rid of the crowd-pullers, and worse still, just force them out of the league because they are too good... Steve

  36. Yes, I think he’s sussed how to ride rubbish in the CL at £50 a point to drop his average and then sign for a desperate PL club at £250 a point!

  39. There is a big different between losing and investing. Through there successful, profitable company they acquired land and invested in creating an impressive sports stadium - both are assets. They continue to invest money that would presumably be 'lost' to the taxman therby enhancing there assets and providing a better product for speedway fans to enjoy. The key is owning the stadium. Sadly when speedway was drawing huge crowds in the 60 and 70s the promoters in the uk put the money in the boot of the car and drove off. when the crowds started to drop they sold the club to speedway fans as opposed to hard headed businessmen and its been generally 'fans' that have been trying to keep the sport going ever since. They had a chance when Sky were throwing money at the sport to invest in facilities but chose to pass it on the riders and once the money started to dry up the riders moved on to other countries. It'll' be interesting when the Polish bubble bursts!

  42. to be fair guys I don't think TG is having a pop at archie - his ire is at the joke reporting by the diamonds which has given no credibility to the management at all us keyboard warriors know nowt ………….. yet our predictions have been a damn site more accurate than ranting roys and the promotion the team has never been good enough ………. that is not even up for debate anymore with Workington, lakeside peterboro and an improving Scunthorpe to visit us ……….. a home win is difficult to foresee and an away win … well lets not even go there ………. we are in a 3 way battle with redcar and Sheffield for the wooden spoon …. and given we visit them and they hit us for 60+ last time ……… well they are obvious away wins for us …………... in the last 6 weeks every team have been trying to improve their sides ………… we have 3 points to play and we did nowt ……… even though the team is clearly not good enough lets be honest … we lucky to be unbeaten at home til Workington …………. the opposition teams seemed hell bent on giving us points …. well our luck has run out still … its only Workington on sunday who have rene bach at reserve !!!!!!!!! quote of the season …. ranting roy after Sheffield ….. 'this team is going places' ……………. it certainly is

  43. Absolutely disgraceful!!!!! Whatever is going on at Poole. First of all, the normal disappointment with the first bend "Gourmet" burger van, (No hot dog rolls), but that's for another thread and then the Coup de grace, the postponement. Firstly, everyone in the stadium could see the rain coming, so Why????? did we have an interval. When it did come, it lasted about 5 minutes. To be honest, the track looked in better nick after the shower and with a bit of grading, I'm sure would have produced some good racing. We travel down from Southampton and sadly, will stay at home on Monday. This is NOT the publicity that Poole, or more importantly, Speedway needs at this, or any other time. From one very disgruntled and disillusioned supporter!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  44. Absolute disgrace to call that off. The track was wetter prior to heat 1 with the hose pipe watering! I was amazed and shocked when they called it off with not even an attempt to grade. Something isn’t right here at all. Never seen a end to a meeting like that, fans booing & all the riders walked over which was strange, where was Nigel? No interviews, nothing! Really poor. I’m the mug because I come back week every week. Bloke next to me with his daughter made it clear he won’t be, said this happened at the last meeting he came too and said he won’t be coming back again as felt he was being short changed! The BSPA wonder why the sport is dying in this country.

  46. Can’t believe some fans burying Niels!!!! He’s a modern legend of the club. He rode for us when nobody else would in 2016 . . . . Topinka was crucified in his last season with us too by some. I bet some of you aren’t as productive as you were mid 20s. Maybe your bosses should drop you guys. Or your elder relatives.. . . What a joke. so next year we drop a 7 point Niels. He moves on and ends up as an 8 point rider or better. And the average equivalent replacement is inconsistent just like the 7ish point riders we have signed over the previous few seasons. Janowski, mads, bjerre, Rory, batchelor, all inconsistent. That’s what a sub 7.5 gets ya. Respect your club legends.
