Woffinden rode tonight like he was riding an exhibition race. He treated every race like a chess match and he was in charge of all the pieces . Intelligence and complete control on a speedway bike9 points

The great thing is that we have two riders at the moment for Britain who don't look overawed and ride like they belong in that company. even if we don't win it we're competing on a better level than we have for a long time.6 points

They should of made tonight meeting bottom 2 teams get eliminated and put some meaning to the meeting ,the racing is decent so far though5 points

WOULD like to see Lambert get a wild card pick for the GP Challenge on the back of his performance tonight4 points

The pairs format is great if this was the line up. Brilliant so far. Simple way to make this ever better. No qualifying. Just a 3 round final. In 3 countries. The overall agg score wins. But each round means something as you can have a final in each. With final as double points4 points

Is Tai still an Aussie on here to some??.. Just checking... Great to see a British genuine World Class rider that the rest of the World respects and fears.... Let's hope he, Lambert and Cook bring home the Gold Medal....3 points

Who said anything about the SON being a 'British event'? What a bizarre comment. And there are people from other countries on here who expressed that it's an ill-conceived event, not to mention pointed out the flaws in the competition rules. I agree that some on here can be quite reactionary and unwilling to try new formats, but as you yourself now acknowledge, even the title of the competition is total unmarketable nonsense. And to claim that one of the better competitions in world speedway had to be torn-up because the Poles had won it a couple of times in recent years (ignoring the total domination of the Danes in the 1980s), is an absurd justification, just as it was to claim this was 'something new, never seen before'. Almost as absurd as claiming that Teterow is the only available circuit to host a Semi-Final - if tracks can't be found to host something like this, that suggests there's something wrong with the demands being made of them. Why on earth do you shill for these things, only to do a complete about turn later on?3 points

Lets face it most of the problems were mentioned on here long ago.We had a decent comp that was replaced. We have 6 or 7 relatively strong countries, there is no getting away from it.Whatever you try the weak countries will still be weak.Sure I said that many countries won’t have a decent U21 rider and if you scrap that it still means many countries won’t have 3 riders on a par with the top countries. Typical speedway trying to solve one problem and walk straight into the next.Speedway just doesn’t have the strength in depth of football and adding more countries into the equation will only show the gap up more than before3 points

Woffinden and Lambert were nothing short of sensational tonight. It's been a while but tonight they had me on the edge of my seat shouting and screaming. The only slight negative, the lack of respect to the efforts of Lambert by Nigel and Kelvin. Tai this, Tai that was a bit tiresome.2 points

Heat two had the making of a cracking race with Archie completely missing the gate, shame it ended how it did but glad Archie was OK and he did well to compose himself and come out and storm to two more great wins.2 points

I actually didn't say I had a problem in this discussion. This is the rule created for this meeting. OK it is not my preference. But who cares about that now. We need to work WITH it to win. I was highlighting the totally different tactics needed from 'usual' deciding races. As Mr Millik proved on Tuesday, when the riders is not too bright ... It loses the race for his team.2 points
-
In principal you're correct, but just can't see it. If a rider gets excluded for dangerous riding then they were probably going out anyway if they were trying to slow up the race to help the guy at the back. They may as well risk it as it's really a no lose gamble. If the result was after 21 heats, we wouldn't be having the debate.2 points

Heats 22 & 23 could be carnage tomorrow unless a pair gate on a 5-1. Basically in those 2 races it's irrelevant who wins the race. The only thing that matters is not to be last, nothing else matters. It stands to reason then, that if you gate and your mate is not with you, you have to slow the race down. It's totally insignificant if you're passed by an opponent as long as you're not passed by both. I can see this going badly wrong and it's dangerous. Agree earlier in the thread about Zagar slowing up. It caused a problem, but you can't blame Zagar as he was "team riding". This is more the reason why the champions should be the winner after heat 21. Understand totally about TV etc and finals but this doesn't come into play for normal GP's.2 points

Not only that, in the past they have taken great delight in 'announcing' the score of important football matches at the meeting... as if folk would not be able to find out if they wanted too. Net result, anyone thinking of going to the speedway, recording the game and watching it when they got home would just stay at home instead.2 points

NOT necessarily. Woffinden is the only double World Champion there, Wroclaw is his home track, could go through the card. Lambert can definitely pick up some points. Janowski and Dudek can blow hot and cold during the same meeting, Sweden could be the favourites if (that word) Lindback is at his best, like the look of Russia but Laguta needs to make starts and Emil will probably get the worst gates as he did in Teterow. It is very open. And, of course, two meetings in 24 hours will put a strain. on both riders and machinery. Let's hope it is a humdinger tonight so that we can look forward to tomorrow as well.2 points

THE Jury is still out of a number of issues with the SON. Firstly, the title of the competition is a nonsense. It tells the greater public nothing, especially from a media point-of-view. It is a World Championship and should include the word world. The choice of venue for the opening round was extremely poor, although do not know what if any alternatives there were. Poor track, no facilities, came across poorly on TV, a largely German crew that had never covered speedway before, many comms issues on the day. Two run-off heats are un-necessary. One would suffice (3rd v 4th) especially as it is possible, as happened in Teterow, that one nation (Slovenia) had three races on the trot. Walking around the pits at BV on Tuesday afternoon it was nice to see so many nations represented. However, there were too many non-competitive races. The idea that each country should have an Under-21 reserve is fine in theory but not in practice. Why not simply have three-man squads, to be used at the discretion of the team manager. It would still be a pair in each race and just as likely if not more to produce team riding. With the final still to come, many things (such as a two-day final, the scoring system particularly for the Final) have yet to come under scrutiny. What if the championship is decided by a rider getting an exclusion or an engine failure. Plusses and minuses, as in all new ventures. What we already know is that much depends on the actual track on which these riders are expected to perform to the best of their ability. The NSS fits the bill perfectly. As Antonio Lindback remarked it is fun to race on and if the riders are enjoying whet they are doing the paying public will too.2 points

Whats that got to do with anything? More old rubbish to throw? It really is pathetic. As for the meeting, let’s hope the weather stays dry and we can actually see some racing and a Poole win to close up on a playoff place.2 points

You're not grasping it, likely because you don't want to grasp it. You seem to think because every rider is not World Champion being fit doesn't work.. I think there's a slight flaw there. You've tried suggesting the Poles don't take the fitness quite as seriously.. which doesn't really help your argument given their lack of World Championships for all the talent they possess. Now you bring Craig Cook into it. Cook, a rider who has made the GP's, on merit. I wonder how well he'd be doing had he not bothered with being fit. I'll give you a clue... he wouldn't be in the GP's.2 points
-
You don’t need a healthy mind you need a win at all costs mind and you don’t get that in a gym, Craig Cook is mega fit and doing all the right things(fitness)but its obvious he has mind issues to overcome, he gets too worked up and you can’t sort that in a gym2 points

See, here's the reason I'm getting so fed up with Speedway. Fans have been crying out for British Speedway to get with the times, modernise itself, be more professional. The Great Britain franchise are doing exactly that and bang, "All you need is a mental strength and the fastest bike". That is a so old fashioned approach to world Speedway today. None of the top class rider's just rely on their equipment. Woffy puts his World Titles down to the change in his diet and the way of training. Doyle the last 2 seasons exactly the same. We see it time after time, the Poles haves the best equipment you can buy on the World stage yet fail to deliver individual winners every year. Being mentally strong is very important, I agree. But having the fastest equipment and practicing going round and round on your own is way past it's time. Physical fitness and nutritional dieting, and pre-meeting training is very important. I suppose we'll see if the new approach becomes more effective over the next couple of years.2 points

But those are the one's he's discarded for the pirates for one reason or another, so he can't expect to just wait and hope he needs them at some point. And they are earning him money.2 points

yes i have to agree, consistent yes, but the wrong kind of consistency, I think the Promoters despite there hard work, have to try to have a shake up somehow, people wont carry on paying good money to watch a team lose..1 point
