Many of the Poole assets are foreign riders who became assets simply by riding for the team, so not really any financial investment involved. As it's working out any financial investment would have been far better used to maintain the track rather than allowing it to deteriorate to such a state where it may not now be affordable to do the work necessary. The track is the most important asset for any team yet so many seem prepared to skimp and save on it. For Matt Ford to complain about not being able to use his assets currently riding in the UK is just plain ridiculous. He agreed to loan them out so can't now complain simply because his situation has changed. Whilst understanding the potential difficulties of the legal position I think that teams should be able to retain the registration of riders they have bought and riders they have developed but the registration of riders gained simply because they ride for the team should be time limited if they are not used. It is ridiculous that Belle Vue still hold the registrations of Tomasz Jedraszek and Patrick Hougaard but right that they have Steve and Richie Worrall and Max Fricke because they bought them and Dan Bewley and Kyle Bickley because they have helped them develop from novice to where they are today.6 points

You will get better results if you employ a headshrink and a good tuner, that’s all that matters in speedway always has always will, your not on track long enough for the rest to make a big difference, if this althlete thing works for an individual rider then great but it’s not for everyone and any motorsport competitor will tell you, you can have the best equipment and have the best team around you and be the fittest athlete in the world but if your head is not 100% you won’t win anything and that applies even more in speedway cause all that belief has to be packed into 100 yards to the first corner and no amount of physical training will get you to that. The two heads are everything in speedway, the one on the shoulders and the one on the barrel, get those right you will go along way5 points

Got to be honest I just don’t get what they do, I understand what they want to achieve but I find all this althlete stuff a massive bore and really I couldn’t care less about it, I don’t like rossiter as GB manager but he is the manager and to have all these people dictating what goes on is wrong, it’s rossiters job and his job only and also to have seemingly one rider dictating how things are is also wrong,5 points

Don’t believe everything you read about the poles, why is Jason Doyle not leading the world championship ? Or to.be honest not at the top of his game ? His equipment is the best and his training is at the top so what’s changed ? It’s his mindset, he is NO1 and with it comes a change in mindset, not diet or fitness and that’s why it is so hard to to do back to back titles, notice woffinden has the well known fitness coach Pete Adams back in his corner at GPs, speedway is a head game, personally I just think we will get the same results we would of anyway , in Wroclaw we should be able to get on rostrum as it’s woffinden track and lambert can cut it in poland, I don’t think Cook can but I just think he is too nervous and too wound up to be able to make an impact and you don’t change that with fitness , one place I do think they will make an impact is raising the profile on team GB cause the world is full of that type of people who believe all the add ons is the way everything should be4 points

See, here's the reason I'm getting so fed up with Speedway. Fans have been crying out for British Speedway to get with the times, modernise itself, be more professional. The Great Britain franchise are doing exactly that and bang, "All you need is a mental strength and the fastest bike". That is a so old fashioned approach to world Speedway today. None of the top class rider's just rely on their equipment. Woffy puts his World Titles down to the change in his diet and the way of training. Doyle the last 2 seasons exactly the same. We see it time after time, the Poles haves the best equipment you can buy on the World stage yet fail to deliver individual winners every year. Being mentally strong is very important, I agree. But having the fastest equipment and practicing going round and round on your own is way past it's time. Physical fitness and nutritional dieting, and pre-meeting training is very important. I suppose we'll see if the new approach becomes more effective over the next couple of years.4 points

But those are the one's he's discarded for the pirates for one reason or another, so he can't expect to just wait and hope he needs them at some point. And they are earning him money.4 points

TROUBLE is that when you are dealing with an average rather than simply a rider those costs can quite easily go up. Plenty of riders have their worth inflated because their average fits rather than their ability.4 points

Guys, There is no swerving here at all. I'm not at liberty to discuss payment and amounts etc on a public forum. This has been done with permission, is what I'm prepared to say. As, I said, if you want to find out for yourself, please contact the BSPA via the correct channels.4 points

You may well be right, but modern rider's need ALL the aspects to be at the top. Mental strength and the fastest bike won't cut it alone. Also every rider is different and react better to different approaches, I'm not naive to think there's 1 way for all. Fitness and nutritional dieting were the difference for Woffy and Doyle to make that step to the top. Neither of these had changed much else, same bikes, same tuners etc, but upped their health and made huge strides. Another working example of fitness and nutritional dieting this year is Robert Lambert. He's been something else this season, lost a tonne of weight and bulked up a bit. It's worked dividends so far. You also have to look at the youngsters who have gone through the Poultec program & the No Limits too. Some big strides for them over the last 2-3 years. There really is so much more to riding these days to just having your head in the right place and the fastest bikes. Of course they help, but if you ain't at your peak in physical fitness you will be left behind. These are facts about every sport that takes a toll on the body.3 points

Delighted to see Matej fixed up with Newcastle, hopefully George English will get the best out of him as he did the last time he rode for the Diamonds and I saw for myself he good Kus can be when he is happy and settled. This will mean of course that Lewis Rose becomes available, I wonder if we will see him back with a team fairly soon.2 points

Good for Matt these riders are available for any promoter to sign and keep on their books and if a club wants to loan them they can , To me it’s good business, same in many sports.its a risk if no one uses them but at least we have a promoter willing to invest.2 points

So why did you say anything, Philip? Once again it's a case of "I know something but I'm not telling!" Keep it shut if you haven't got anything to say in full2 points

Excellent news. This reflects the level of promotion on the channels I referred to earlier. Given that nearly a remarkable (for pay-TV) 3 million watched the Champions League Final it's even more impressive. Hopefully the next step is deal renewals with better monies on offer. They seem to be showing more enthusiasm for the sport than many 'supporters' .2 points

Can`t see why you feel the need to get uppity with Nick Rushbrook- if he doesn`t know about Go speed he obviously didn`t deal with them- so that leaves the BSPA themselves. So like him i suggest you ask them !!!2 points

Now I’m not a big fan of Matt Ford but this quote from the Bournemouth Echo takes the biscuit: “The situation with Chris Holder has damaged us severely, especially when the club has assets like Hans Andersen and Kenneth Bjerre at Leicester, Troy Batchelor at Swindon and Krzysztof Kasprzak at Rye House. Clearly, these riders would have been a great help to us at this point and yet they have not been available due to the rules and regulations.” Correct me if I’m wrong, but couldn’t Ford have included at least one of those assets instead of Sundstrom and did he expect the others to sit around, waiting for Poole injuries, rather than sign for other clubs? Could he have included club asset Ellis Perks instead of Szzzzpaniak? A selfish, spoilt attitude!1 point

BECAUSE the BSPA never disclose what actually happens at their 'secretive' meetings which its something that should change. It is a major reason why there is so much suspicion about what goes on behind closed doors.1 point

Rob, I sincerely appreciate your comments even given the long winded nature! It's a hobby / fan channel. No business interests here. We are aware of mistakes made as i said and will be rectified next time. I dont agree with all of your points but that's the beauty of opinion. But please keep up with suggestions as i find them good food for thought.1 point

I have just been checking out the situation with Lodz speedway team. The new stadium has been much delayed which has left Lodz in a dodgy financial situation having raced their 7 Nice Polska league away matches with no income to pay the riders for these matches. I have seen on the club website the dates for their 7 home matches. July 29th v Gdansk July 30th v Daugavpils August 10th v Gniezno August 12th v Rybnik August 17th v Pila August 19th v Krakow August 26th v Lublin That is all depending on the stadium and track being ready !!!1 point

Well since no-one else seems interested , thought I would give it a go based on the last list in 2015. 1. Split Waterman d.o.b 27/7/23 2 Arthur Payne 30/8/24 3 Dick Bradley 28/11/24 4 Chum Taylor 4/4/27 5 Derrick Close 13/5/27 6 Henry Long 26/7/27 7 Billy Bales 6/6/29 8 Olle Nygren 11/11/29 9 Rune Sormander 29/11/29 10 Jack Geran 10/12/29 11 Ian Williams 4/8/31 12 Per Tage Svensson 16/10/31 13 Peo Soderman 29/10/31 I think those are the survivors of the previous list of 2015-some others are now in the top 16 (18-with two reserves)-not sure who they would be but think Ove and Briggo would now qualify-any thoughts . BTW -oldest 6 are now in their nineties. Sadly I got to see only 7 ride-Bradley, Taylor, Bales, Nygren, Sormander, Geran and Soderman. Did any forumlanders see all of them ride???-thought this emoticon best represented Split!!1 point

Constructive feedback is appreciated. Can't guarantee that I'll always agree but I'll certainly take criticisms/suggestions into account. It's definitely a learning curve.....but a fun one. We've gone over it and will implement certain changes for next time. Oh and the 'woman' is a friend of mine. I gave her the direction with regards to questions so that was my call. Thanks for (almost) watching!1 point

I think if you say 57 - 33 you would be closer to the mark, I know who will get the 3 but can't see where the other 40 are going to come from unless you know something I don't!!1 point

You're so out of your depth on this topic it's staggering. You're adding 2+2 and coming up with 9 to fit your argument. The majority of the top boys take fitness very seriously. Is it the be all and end all? Of course it isn't yet you seem to have got it into your head that is what people are saying. However, don't bother with that side of it and you have a piece missing from the puzzle. Doyle is completely the wrong example to use as it was only when he did get serious that he suddenly elevated himself into the top echelon. You rightly keep talking about the mental side of it whilst remaining completely oblivious to the reality that being physically fit vastly boosts your confidence.1 point

Any truth that next time this competition is run, of course that is if it' ran again That all teams have to have 3 riders ? Though to a simpleton like myself it should've been a given for this year. I mean if you're minor nation and can't name 3 suitable riders you should've been refused the opportunity to race on signing in at the track.1 point

It was voiced on this forum, immediately after the announcement of the FRN, that a vote was taken and Matt Ford voted to go along with three 2nd division teams, to keep Thursday free for championship . When Ford was questioned about his vote, he replied he voted to enable Poole to operate on Wednesdays... Some say this forum is gospel ; I can understand Ford's logic, it was typical of the 'I'm alright right' philosophy... But why was something so big, in regards to other countries fixture clashes, that is was put to a vote with teams that has no bearing on Ist division racing is beyond me... Surely the BSPA should have detailed Mon and Thursday's as FRN , as was suggested by the FIM, and then asked the teams which league they wanted to join, not give 2nd div teams, the option of day and League they wish to race. They sure made a real pigs ear of everything,1 point

...I'm assuming that this is a reference to Hans Nielsen? Having followed his career from day one and enjoying nine years watching him lead 'The Cheetahs' he was anything but dull. Okay he won most of his races from the gate which many may perceive as being 'dull' but many of the 'greats' had that same attribute considering that to be successful in speedway one of the main qualities is the ability to gate. However I've witnessed many great races involving Hans team-riding his partner and passing riders when required in sometimes spectacular moves...too many to remember but I instantly recall races involving him and John Cook, Erik Gundersen, Sam Ermolenko, Kelvin Tatum etc etc who were no slouches by any stretch of the imagination. Due to his ultimate professionalism on and off the track he lead 'The Cheetahs' to three League Championships as well as many other team honours too many to mention where his contribution could never have been under estimated...a true legend and one of the greats. Talking of Ncki Pedersen I witnessed first hand his time spent at Cowley and due to his unprofessional attitude off track (and re-nowned volatile nature on track where I witnessed two exclusions for pointless moves on opponents thereby undermining team ethic and/or contribution) he was sacked for an incident in the pits at Peterborough later turning up at Eastbourne. I have no knowledge of the current spate of Danish riders and therefore can not offer a comment regarding team selection and/or performance.1 point

Swindon 46.74 Wolves 47.44 Belle Vue 43.98 Poole 42.54 Rye House 43.73 Somerset 41.93 Kings Lynn 38.46 Leicester 43.02 Those are the 2017 finishing averages. For 2018, to encourage continuity and fan loyalty any team should have been allowed to keep the same riders, regardless of average, or build a new team to the fourth highest average ((Rye’s 43.73). That could have meant the top three clubs keeping the same team and the bottom five replacing a couple of riders with better ones, whether they be established Championship scorers or emerging riders (UK or foreign). If they chose emerging riders they would truly be investing in their team’s future and would get closer to and ultimately overtake the top teams.1 point

For anyone interested Radio Norfolk have added a couple of speedway shows, they are 30 minute offerings, worth a listen if you're at a loose end. https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p051d52h/episodes/player I don't know of any other Radio stations that do this kind of stuff, so will be dropping Radio Norfolk a line to thank them for supporting the sport and for giving us Alan Partridge.1 point
