  1. Anyone know if there are any tickets left for the Poole end of season dinner dance next month?

  2. Common sense would dictate that 14 riders all on track at full speed at the same time would be a disaster waiting to happen. hot laps are rider doing laps at full speed in relative safety. I thought anyone with with an iota of sense could see the difference.

  3. Agreed. Szczepaniak has exceeded my expectations to date. He's been solid or better in every meeting to date. Fans who thought Woryna and Szczepaniak were suddenly going to be 7.50+ riders were extremely optimistic.

  4. najjer has made sensible posts, and it appears all fans have supported the flying lap idea, you reply with an ignorant and rude post, very poor show, like many others im completely baffled by your regular references to "sandcastles"please can you explain this to everyone?

  5. Lindgren hates Poole more than you do Gavan and Tai will only help Wolves. I'd much rather have Brady anyway, he'll be better than them in a year or so.

  6. Terrific effort by the Robins last night and I'm glad I went. I can't remember seeing Troy Bachelor ride that well for a long time. After the first 6 heats it wasn't looking great as we were 10 points down and hadn't provided a heat winner. Nick had taken a fall in the first heat and according to Rosco's after-meeting comments had felt he'd damaged his number 1 bike and his reserve machine lacked pace. However there seemed to be a concerted team effort and they all dug deep to turn it around. Everybody contributed, even Mitchell Davey didn't look too far off the pace although he failed to score. A special mention for Zach who continues to improve and he had a great scrap with Kurtz in Heat 12 picking up a valuable 3rd place to give us a 4-2 heat victory. I know its early days yet but the Robins are shaping up well. I think there's scope in this team for a number of riders to improve their averages this year; Zac Toby and Adam and if Batch can maintain something close to the form he showed last night I think we can compensate for the loss of Doyley. For Leicester, they look a much better side and I know Bjerre's return of 6 paid 8 was a little disappointing (though according to another poster he was on borrowed equipment last night) I think he's a very good choice of cover for Vaculik for that track as he's a gating specialist which is big advantage there. Well done Budgies, onwards and upwards, a very entertaining meeting.

  7. Sorry Chris, but I find myself at odds with your comments on the Rye managers offering congratulations to Dan. My game was Rugby both league and union, and we were told that you congratulate your opponents after the match, it was called sportsmanship in my day, yes, in the dressing room you let your feelings be known about the performance or lack thereof, but a performance like Dan’s should be recognised. I’m old fashioned, tell them well done but kick their backsides next time.

  10. Reckon Ivan, and also Ove Fundin, would have won more World Championships under the GP system. And Ivan a-l-m-o-s-t won 6 in a row ! As we know: he took out 1968-1970, Ole Olsen won in 1971, Ivan won again in 1972, and had he waited another 3/4 of a lap to pass the Pole Jerzy Szczakiel in 1973, it could have 6 on the bounce. But any rider will say if you see a gap then you really must go for it as you may never get another chance, though there are relativley few 'must win' races under the GP format. Ivan disproved his 'just a gater' tag in that 1973 Final when he was passing for fun around the outside on his longstroke JAWA, and while he must have been well peeved at the time (to say the least !) and also afterwards at being constantly asked about it, he bore no ill will towards Jerzy "he was a better rider than most people thought plus he deserved to win because I fell off and he didn't", says a lot about the man Ivan Mauger....

  13. Bachelor's ability has never been in doubt. Its his Attitude, Arrogance, and Self importance that fans don't like. If his persona wasn't so self driven, then probably he would have the support his talent deserves. If you remember 2 yrs ago every Swindon fans were well pleased he left. No-body had a good word for him... Its amazing how quick they can forget this...

  17. Yep that was one of my posts - a great idea and one that a lot of tracks could take on board. It's the sort of thing a sponsor is likely to want to get on board with offering a financial prize at the end of the season to the winner.

  18. I find all this embarrassing. Rye House have always been a second tier club running on weekends and have done pretty well too. Now we are running again on an unfamiliar night and given the side we are putting out the crowds will dwindle. Harris Robson and Nicholls have hardly set the Second tier alight and at this level are the basis of a side that will get mauled every time away from home. We didn’t make the playoffs last year, we have learned nothing from team building last season and the current side would struggle against Championsip teams. Even down to no team Kevlar we look a second rate club going nowhere and have a stadium that has gone backwards since the BMR mob moved in. Fans wanted Silver out and now they have what they wished for

  23. It is what it is, but for us to cast judgement and say it's very badly advised may itself be badly advised. We only have our selfish opinions as fans. We aren't close enough to the guy or his family to know all the facts that went into making that decision. It might be unfortunate for the world of speedway, but there's a lot more to life than just speedway.

  33. some people say he would have struggled in the current championship series format ........... what utter rubbish in 71 he lost to our other great diamond ole olsen when scoring 14, in 73 he lost to a pole in a run off and 74 he finished 2nd on a track prepared for Anders Michanek (another diamond....) I think his sheer consistency would have won him titles between 68-74 ... maybe Olsen would have had a chance in 71 Likewise he could won in 67 and between 75-79 I think his tactical genius would have won at least the 2 titles he won in that era anyway ..... he probably would have 8-10 titles between 67 and 79 under the grand prix system Individual meetings on the night were always harder to win, even the great Tony Richardsson wouldn't have won 6 individual titles Ivan ... was the total professional... a genius..... and total legend

  35. No, no I haven't as we haven't got a match this week. I have been discussing Kings Lynn with Kings Lynn supporters so don't flatter yourself. Anyway, after about 3 irrelevant postings about 'sandcastles' I'm finally going to ask... what on gods earth are you on about? Or have you finally completely lost the plot?

  36. The weather wasn't good for the next Golden Helmet meeting on 04.09.1929,but still a decent crowd of 12,000 turned up.Two of the best riders were missing in Heinrichs and Wunder,so it was no real surprise when Franz Heck won, followed by Niss,Stölting and Strachwitz.Due to Heinrichs absence Niss now regained the lead with 26pts,Heinrichs on 25,Heck moving up to3rd with 13,Wunder 11,Plambeck 9,Strachwitz and Stölting on 6 In the handicap quails Lees couldn't make up the 4 seconds Strachwitz had and so didn't qualify for the final!!Strachwitz seemed to have found some form and managed to win the final ahead of Niss,Sörensen and Heck The bad weather had stuck around,so that the track was quite heavy and the crowd was only around the 6,000 mark to see the revenge challenge between the Lees-Heck pairing v Sorensen-M.Hansen.This time it ended a draw as 'Ginger' could only win the first two as usual and his partner finishing behind the Danes. This time though in the final heat,it wasn't Heck wh surprised, but Sorensen,by beating Lees into 2nd with Heck beating Hansen. So it ended 21 apiece. After almost two months this meeting saw the departure of Niels Sorensen, who was going back to Copenhagen and was warmly applauded as he made a final lap of the track. The top German pair of Fritz Niss and Franz Heck would also make the trip to race in Copenhagen The next meeting saw another influx of riders from England including Arthur Sherlock from Hall Green,Johnny Broughton from Sheffield and Joe Palastrand, which meant they held a scratch race event just for the 'english' riders.Arthur Sherlock looked the best of the new guys, but Lees was still a class apart and won the scratch final ahead of Sherlock and Ned Kelly and also the handicap final ahead of the Dane Kay Andersen and Johnny Broughton 3rd.Palastrand won the final for the weaker riders. His winning time of 1:57s compared poorly t Ginger Lees time of 1:46 winning the handicap final So two months after the opening the Dirt Track had established itself as one of the major sporting events in Hamburg.Well in actual fact Lokstedt was really a part of Schleswig-Holstein and only became part of Hamburg in 1937 under the Nazis. It was a fairly well to do area in troubled times. The neighbourng Hagenbecks Tierpark(zoo) was opened a couple of decades earlier.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tierpark_Hagenbeck.Up until 1866 it had been like most of Schleswig-Holstein under Danish rule lying on the edge of two rival cities.Hamburg, the free Hansa city and Altona, one of the main ports under Danish control.Altona like Hamburg had its eyes on surrounding areas and wanted Lokstedt to become part of its area, which Lokstedt resisted. But it was Altona that gave 'Ginger' Lees the freedom of the city, rather than Hamburg during the 1929 season. It was also in Altona, nicknamed 'little Moscow' because of its left wing-communist leaning population, that held a trial that showed an insight into just how volatile the political state of the area was,and gave a warning for the future. In 1925 Germany signed trade contracts that opened the country to foreign trade. and cheap products flooded the market.Agricultural areas were hit hard and the areas surrounding Hamburg and Altona particularly hard as this was one of the main pig farming areas of Germany.Cheap frozen pork from Poland caused massive financial problems for farmers in the area as the price of pork plummeted.By the start of 1928 a protest movement was forming and 140,000 came out on 28.01.1928.20,000 alone in the sleepy town of Heide which had been hosting motorcycle races at its trotting track.Very soon the movement was headed by a couple of local farmers who had links to right wing movements in particular the Stahlhelm(Steel helmet)group. This movement, the 'Landvolkbewegung' soon started bomb attacks on government buildings and farm houses owned by farmers opposed to their movement. There was a major protest in August of 1929,when one of the leaders was released from a short prison term in Neumunster, north of Hamburg.Their movements flag was confiscated by the police and the this led to a boycott of selling products in the town, which almost caused its financial collapse and was only called off after a year when the flag was handed back. The area was extremely volatile and the German elections of 1928 whilst Hitlers party only managed 2.6% nationwide,in some of the areas of Schleswig-Holstein they managed 17% and in local areas up to 36%!!! In a few weeks the Wall Street Crash would make the world even more dangerous....... Altona held the trial of some of those involved with the bombings and the imprisonment meant the movement soon disappeared as the Nazis rose to power and would soon provoke the Altona bloody sunday. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rural_People's_Movement https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Landvolkbewegung_(Schleswig-Holstein https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Altona_Bloody_Sunday Sport acted as an escape from the social and political troubles and even as the British troops were advancing on Hamburg in WW2 a large crowd attended a football match between two local sides!!!

  37. There is also the changes to the track, someone else preparing the track and a new team manager. Worrall was a big fan of the previous manager. A few things to get used to

  38. ok, but he did become world u-21 champion in 1993 and appeared in the Grand Prix from 1996-2001 finishing 6th in 1999. Not many Englishmen have achieve that, particularly in recent years.

  42. Davey scored 2 maximums in his two NL meetings. With the points we have available it would need to be a NL rider to replace him. Not sure there is anyone better at the moment. He also scored well v BV in the Charity Shield. So no need to look at changing a winning team at the moment. Need to give him a few more meetings.
