Are you that naive the sport as a whole has to prosper to make progress it is not all about one club your club or mine Poole need clubs to race against your philosophy is as long as Poole do well everything is rosy no it is not your club needs teams to race against and year by year that gets more difficult for most clubs.

That's just rubbish. As Sidney has rightly pointed out many foreigners have been employed when Brits just as good or better have been available. I understand your philosophy of win at all costs but it is just plain wrong if you want the sport here to prosper. It was no coincidence that the last boom in the 70's coincided with a period when British riders were the best in the world. A successful British team gets the national media interested, which increases crowds. The selfish attitude of we've got a full trophy cabinet does nothing for anybody other than your team and now the novelty has worn off and the running streak faltered your crowds are also suffering.

I used to hate Ivan! At Poole, the meeting before Ivan was due to appear, Mr Knott would get us to practice our boos! All pure theatre of course. As an 8 year old in 1963, I remember shoving my autograph book at Ivan, along with many other kids. He simply put his finger across his lips to 'shhhh' us all up. He then said, 'I will sign for everyone, but get in line and say please and thank you. He did. Something Ive never forgotten to this day. I am not an autograph hunter, but he taught me the simplest of manners. Ive liked him ever since, even though he was an 'arch enemy', especially when he joined Exeter. R.I.P. Ivan and thank you for some wonderful memories.

Big night for King's Lynn tonight, IMO its more important for the evening to run smoothly than the result! Entertaining races, on a well prepared track, with 2 full teams of riders, and races run promptly will get crowds coming back even if Stars lose...

Great planning by the Robins promotion to start the league campaign against one of the lesser teams in this season’s competition. The Four Point Arena is very aptly named and clearly many of the riders from last season’s Championship squad have enjoyed familiar territory. I was hoping that Matt had put together a decent side over the winter but clearly he hasn’t, and frankly its getting a bit boring now keep spanking Poole in their back yard. Good job the Swindon asset was trying, otherwise, it could have been even more embarrassing...

Howarth is coming along quite nicely thanks, so glad Poole dropped him, afterall he helped us to put another trophy in the cabinet in 2016 whilst the highly fancied Poole team failed dismally.

I remember going to Exeter in 1975 while in Devon on a scout camp. We arranged a trip to speedway in the evening to see an Exeter v Hull match. In those days you could actually lean on the safety fence and lean out over the track as the riders came down the straight, which I did in one race. I leaned right out in front of Ivan Mauger as he came down at full speed and shot past. For a brief moment, I looked right into his eyes as he came past. I will never forget that image. He had such distinctive eyes. Lord knows what he thought of kids leaning out in front of him as he went past! It was a regular thing at that time. I still have the programme. Exeter won 51-27. Ivan Mauger? Paid maximum with 2 second places behind Exeter no 2 Mike Farrell.

One must also remember that Ivan had a tough time when he first came over and rode at Wimbledon. When he came back and started with Newcastle the long focused road to the top began His biographies are a great read.

I don't need to dress up any stats. For the past five or six years people have been making these ridiculous claims that weaker EL (as was) would struggle in the PL (as was). They've always been ridiculous and still are now. When you choose to argue the point, provide ZERO to back it up you set yourself up for patronising comments. Last year the leagues were as 'close' as they have ever been in terms of strength, yet in the play off the higher division absolutely destroyed the lower division. It wasn't even a half competitive match. If Rye were in the Championship their team average adds up to over 50pts and I've not even converted KK's or Kennett's averages... so more likely near 54pts.

And the very reason why no Brit with any real ambition would want to sign for Poole. Short term trophy goals are all that matters. When we do have riders ready and able to challenge on the World Stage again if will be because of teams like Belle Vue, Wolves and Swindon who look long term at the future of the sport in the UK and on the world stage. Thank god there are clubs that stand by their Brits. Long may that continue. Is it any coincidence that 2 of those clubs have been crowned league champions the past 2 seasons? ? Just saying.

For many it is and that's their loss , for the rest who aren't stuck in the past and wishing for something different then they are the ones enjoying good speedway from the bees . The only drawback in your words is personal issue's and the weak argument of a few quid in petrol money. Like I said if you don't like it please don't spoil it for others who can deal with the current situation.

Think this will be pretty close - Newcastle have riders who have a lot of experience around Redcar and the Bears have 2 riders having their first appearance at the track (assuming Stewart is fit enough to ride) A lot will depend on the 2 enigmas - Kus and Lindgren. Not much in it either way.

Warriors Aim To Make It An Opening Double After last week’s action packed win over the Belle Vue Colts, Warrior fans will be hoping for more of the same as the home side take on Plymouth Devils at The Andrew Younie Smallbrook Stadium this Thursday evening. A superb all-round team effort from both riders and their pit crews was the ideal way to get the new speedway campaign up and running so now it is time for the Warriors to launch their assault on the National Trophy against a Devils side that features former Island skipper James Cockle following his move west. Wise-cracking Cockle will undoubtedly be out to rack up a big score against his former employers and will rely on strong support from big hitting Adam Roynon and rapidly improving teenager Henry Atkins. Whilst Cockle could turn out to be a thorn in the home team’s side, the Warriors will be making plans of their own to deal with the Devonians who won all three visits to the Island last season. Both sides have made personnel changes over the winter months and on paper look evenly matched so the chances of a close encounter of the speedway kind should make for another gripping night of fun and track excitement. Co-promoter Barry Bishop (pictured), proud as a peacock after the Belle Vue win, said, “Last week’s fantastic family meeting had everything, passion, great action, lots of fun and a brilliant win over last season’s league champions. If this week’s meeting is half as entertaining our fans will once again leave very satisfied. Be sure, we want a win to set us off on the best possible start in the National Trophy. I cannot wait”. Immediately before Thursday’s meeting, there will be a short tribute to one of the very greatest speedway riders of all time. As usual, the turnstiles will open at 5.30 p.m. and the pits will be open for viewing from 5.45 p.m. to 6.15 p.m. The Warrior mascots will then take to the track for some demonstration laps followed by the grand parade of riders at 6.45 p.m. with tapes up on the first race at 7.00 p.m. sharp. The ever-popular kid’s on-track cycle/running race will also feature during the speedway interval.

Poole have only really given Brits a chance because of the enforced ruling about using them at reserve. Shanes is only really in because his 2 point average fits. Poole have certainly not supported the likes of Howarth and Newman as assets by sacking them. Wolves took a chance on Howarth and are now reaping the benefit with his best ever season at both levels in 2017 and has started 2018 with a top flight paid maximum. I'd rather ALL clubs looked after their Brits to help them progress. Some clubs obviously do so much better than others, Belle Vue another great example.
